I have just installed MS SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio Express on my server but when I try to open a MDF file for manual editing I am told no editor exists. Is the software I have installed able to open a MDF file?
Does anyone know how to do this using variables? Everytime I try it, I get the
Error: Failed to lock variable for read access with error 0xc00100001.
I also tried it writing a script and still the same error. If I hard code the values into the variables it works fine but I will be running this everday so that it will pull in the current date along with the filename. So the value of the variables will change everyday. Here is my expression:
Could someone please instruct me on how to use the File System Task Editor to rename a file? I place control on control flow tab, change the operation to rename, from there I am not sure what to do.
I am testing SSIS and have created a Flat File Destination. I defined the Flat File Connection as New for the first time and it worked fine. Now, I would like to go back and modify the Flat File Connection in the Flat File Destination Editor, but it allows only to create a New connection rather allowing me to edit the existing one. For testing, I can go back and create a new connection, but if my connection had 50-100 columns then it would be an issue to re-create it from scratch.
I have a flat file that I'm trying to bring in. I've mapped all the columns, and the first record comes out perfect. The problem is that its not recognizing end of line. When I preview it line one looks great, but line two has two square boxes before the actual next record begins and those boxes move over into the next column on the next record and so forth. The Format is Fixed Width, I have no text qualifier, header row delimeter is set to default {CR}-{LF}, and we're starting on row 2 as row 1 is garbage. Any ideas?
The Import wizard was used to create a package. The package simply reads a flat file and writes the columns to a SQL table. The package was added to and opened in an SSIS project. I would like to make several iterations of changing the flat file columns and their names. Most commonly the wizard would be run with the column names defaulted to [Column 0],[Column 1] ... Later the name will changed when the proper name is known.
I have been able to change the name of a column, but don't know how to synchronize the SQL table creation and the column mappings. Help please.
I'm very new to SSIS and seemed to have stumbled into an expected problem. I'm working on a package that was converted from a DTS package and I have a problem with the Flat File Connection manager. I want to change the file name in my connection, but I do not seem to be able to save the change. After clicking "OK" to save the name change I can then save the package, close BIDS, open everything up again and for some reason the "old" filename is still present in the connection. Note that the "new" file has exactly the same layout as the "old" file, just a different name. And I can oreview the data without any difficulty.
I am new with SSIS and I have a problem that I don€™t know solving it. I have a simple package with a delimited flat file source which is loaded into a table in a SQL Server database. Below is the import format: - Row delimiter: carriage return and line feed {CR/LF} - Column delimiter: Comma {,} - Text qualifier: €œ
In the source file, the data looks like this: €œstring1 €?, 34, €œ€?, , ,€? string2 €œtext1€? string2€? , €œ €œ,
This package with DTS works, but now with SSIS does not, when I see the €œprevious rows€? in the Flat File Connection Manager Editor, the last column has incorrect information and when I create a new file without spaces and without twice €œ€? in the same string, it works. I don€™t know what I am missing with SSIS.
Please... any ideas? Is this a footprint config issue?

I know that I think as sql2k programmer-dba yet but I can€™t avoid.
I€™ve got Flat File Connection Manager Editor dragged with a text file as €˜ragged right€™ format and CRLF as header row limiter. When from properties page and Columns option I€™m going to alter just a few colums I am not be able. It seems that you must erase all of them in order to define one or two. And in the case you€™d have 50???? When I ran sql2k DTS designer did that without problems, alter columns again and again.
As far as I know it€™s a lose of flexibility, or not? Or is there any way for do that without deleting nothing else?
Is there a way of uploading column definitions from the Flat File Connection Manager into a SQL Server table definition. Since I have over a dozen data sources to process each with around 200 columns and of course like many BI techies I have little immediate influence over the structure of these flat files. I just know that these data sources are business critical.
Judging by looking at similar threads I can't be the only one who would greatly benefit from being able to upload column definitions from the Flat File Connection Manager into a SQL Server table definition as opposed to doing this manually.
I have to copy data from a view of a database to an Excel file . Is there any way of doing it ? Is there any way to import the data from the views to an Excel format ? We have SQL Server 7.0 .
As the title indicates, I'm having this error during installation. It occurs when I try to install the "Management Studio" part of the program. I've tried a bunch of things like copying to hard drive and installing, but to no avail. To isolate the problem, i've even tried removing Reporting services, since at the time of failure it seems to be trying to install/configure the Microsoft.Reporting Services dll.
Additionally, I have SQL Express installed (installed it separately, not as part of the SQL 2005 DVD), VS 2005, .NET Framework 2.0, SQL Management Studio Express CTP. Could the Management Studio Express be causing a problem?
Please note: Although the error is about missing / corrupt Sql.cab, I have searched the entire dvd for the said file, but there is no file called Sql.cab on the dvd. Am I missing something?
I am trying to prove I can use SSIS to connect to a web service. The WS I am trying to connect to was developed by a vendor and covered by a NDA, but I was able to reproduce the issue with a public WS.
Here are the steps to reproduce the issue:
In the Web Services Connection Manager, I entered http://office.microsoft.com/Research/Providers/MoneyCentral.asmx?wsdl in the URL window. I am able to successfully "test" the connection I pasted the above link into IE and saved the resulting XML as a .wsdl file on my local machine. In the Web Services Task Editor, General Tab, I specify the path to the .wsdl file and click on "Download WSDL" button. No Issues When I click on "Input" and select "MoneyCentralRemote" from the drop-down for Service, I receive an error message saying "This version of the Web Services Description Language (WSDL) is not supported"
So the questions are:
Did I perform the above steps correctly? What WSDL versions are supported in SSIS? How can I tell what WSDL version was used to create the .wsdl I am trying to access? If the WSDL is an unsupported version, is there a work-around to fix the issue?
I am developing an application that uses Access database (mdb file) to store the user data. The user of this application is not interested in the database file (to view in MS Access Environment). Does the user machine requires MS Access installation to run my application or just some couple of dlls (OleDB driver, Access DB Engine,..) should be enough to run my application?
Hi! I like a new sql editor instead of the query analyzer. The QA dont show the outlining, bracket injuctions and intellilist. Help! Wich editor able this functions?
What do all of you use to create and edit stored procedures? I am looking for a better way to code than to use the default window supplied with Enterprise Manager.
Do most of you use the Query Analyzer? Are there third party products you like using better?
I'm wondering if there's a better SQL Editor than MS Query Analyzer on the market? I like a lot of the functionality provided by QA but want extra stuff like you get in VB6: intelli-sense (sytanx prompting), auto-complete (CTRL+Space provides list of sp's and tables, etc.) plus any other time saving features.
I've tried a few products but nothing quite hits the mark. Is there a program you use and recommend I trial?
Does anyone know if it is possible to use the XML Editor in SQL 2005 to write xml files from scratch? If possible, how is the editor being started? As of my current knowledge, I am only able to start the XML Editor by clicking on the content of a XML data type column within the sql query result pane.
I would like to use SQL client-side reporting in ASP.NET. However, our customer would like to edit the report sometimes, is there any existing graphical editor to edit .rdlc file? Thanks.
I am using SSIS to extract data from sql server and import into MDB file. In the process, under data flow task, I have used OLE DB Source Editor as source. Here i have choosen SQL Command as mode of data population. In the box below i have typed the following statements.
"Exec Site_Address"
I have used many temperory tables in this procedure. When i run this procedure in the query analyzer window i get the desired data which has to be imported to an MDB. After typing the above statements and when i click the button preview i can see the data. But when i click the Columns.... i dont see anything there. I am unable to see any columns there. This is getting to my nerves because, when i use OLE DB as Destination i am unable to map the columns and i get an error.
I dont know how to solve this problem. cannot we map columns in temp tables .... or wat is it ??
Please help me to find a solution.
I will also paste the procedure code that i have used.
Create procedure Site_Address
as

create table #Data_For_Site_Address_Table

If I implement a custom editor by inheriting from UITypeEditor, Can I invoke it at RUN TIME from a standard control other than PropertyGrid, say a comboBox or a button ?
If it is possible, could you please let me know how to do it or could you please direct me to some URL which shows how to do it.
Do I have to create a custom control that inherits from control for doing this ?
Hi. Is there a T-SQL Editor for SQL CE 3.5 in VS 2008 other than the Query Designer?
I'm used to writing and running sql queries using the MSSMSE 2005 query editor and was looking for something similar in the VS 2008 as MSSMSE 2005 can't open sql ce 3.5 db files. I've found the T-SQL Editor (Data->T-SQL Editor) but unfortunately it only seems to work with regular SQL Server databases and not sql compact sdf files.
Am I missing something or is Query Designer the only way to go (I really hate how it messes with my queries and doesn't let me execute only parts of the queries I write :/ )?
Is anyone aware of a tool that will allow users to update the values of a sql table via a web page? What I am looking for is a tool that when given the name of a table will generate a web front end to allow editing of the table.
Hi,I am looking for a good SQL Server Editor which can be used forwritting stored procedures, doing queries etc. It should have featureslike autocomplete and so on. Any recommendations. Thanks !
Trying to through a process together and using the "ForEach Loop" task. When configuring the task and using the ForEach Loop Editor I do not have the "ForEach File Enumerator" in the drop down. Anyone know whats going on or what I need to do to make this appear. I only see 5 selections: ADO, ADO.Net Schema Rowset, Variable, NodeList, and SMO Enumerators. I am also using the SQL 2005 eval with SP1.
I am trying to load some text files to a SQLServer database. My text files are going to have a name like orders_200709.txt. I am trying to use variables and expressions to evaluate the datepart, YYYYMM. The problem I am facing is with the 'Property Expressions Editor'. When I click on the ellipsis ..., I get the editor, but I am not able to add a new expression; not able to view properites etc. Everything is like in a Disable mode. Does anyone know the cause of this?
I have a custom component that has no editor (i.e. NoEditor=TRUE in DtsPipelineComponent attribute).
This component derives all of its metadata based on the input (hence no editor is needed). What this means is that if the input changes in any way (e.g. the datatype of a column changes) my component will fail validation. That's not a problem, the problem is my Validate() method returns DTSValidationStatus.VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA but ReinitializeMetaData() is not being called.
I get the familiar warning from the component: Warning 1 Validation warning. Data Flow Task: Normaliser: The component has inconsistent metadata. TestHarness.dtsx 0 0
and when I double-click on the component I get the familiar dialog box: TITLE: Editing Component ------------------------------ The component is not in a valid state. Do you want the component to fix itself automatically? ------------------------------ BUTTONS: &Yes &No Cancel ------------------------------
but when I click on 'Yes', nothing happens. RMD never gets called.
The workaround is to detach and reattach the input (which results in a call to ReinitializeMetadata() ) or set NoEditor=FALSE in DtsPipelineComponent attribute but I'd rather not have to do that because strictly speaking the user has no need to edit the component through advanced properties.
Is there another way around this problem? Is there a way to call RMD on a component that has no editor?
