MS OLE DB Provider For DB2 - String Padding

When using the MS OLE DB Provider for DB2 for retrieving data from a DB2 database on an AS/400, all string are padded with white spaces in the end. For instance, if you have a text field with a length of 10 and the field contains the text 'xyz', then when you transfer the data using SSIS you will get the text 'xyz ' ('xyz' followed by 7 times white space). Is there any way to get around this - other than using the RTRIM function in the source query?

I have an ODBC connection setup for Oralce RDB. This works fine in say MSAccess. Now I would like to add a SQL Server Linked Server to this ODBC driver (it is for RDB not regular Oracle), but I am not able to get this to work. What is the Provider String and Location / Catalog for using this type of ODBC? I setup DSN as 'name', Provider String as 'UID=user;PWD=pass;' and it seems it tries to connect but gives an error. "%SQL-F-SCHNOTDEF, Schema USER is not defined"
Any help is greatly appreciated.

The problem that I am having is that with Visual Web Developer I am creating a webpage and having it directly put online, so for example when I start a new ASP.NET page, I select the location to be HTTP, with the location http://MYWEBSERVER/Website and for the language and Visual BasicI notice a couple of things, first that there is no longer a a link under the Main toolbar "Website" selection called the ASP.NET configuration. So how can I configure what I want to have users be able to do? It seems that this choice is only available if I am building the ASP.NET page on my "localhost". So that is the first problem. So I am able to get the pages to work, atleast the things such as the textboxes to show up etc, (Even things as advanced as the "Login" box). How ever when I try to get someone to try to login I am taken to a page that has an server error. The error is:
"The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file. "
The Stack Trace Errors are at the bottom. I think this is happening because the automatically generated databases are not getting built online as they are on my computer. On my computer I have MSSQL express. So either the databases are not getting built for some reason, (and I think that is the case as I don't see any in the folder). So I think that somehow I have to create a database on my server, and then somehow configure the ASP.NET file, perhaps in the Web.Config file to look for that new database. Is this the correct methodology? Is there some simpler way that I can just somehow upload things as they are and have them work correctly on my server? The error says that either the Server did not find the database or that the trust level was insufficient. I don't think that is it as I just looked again and I don't see any .MDF files. So how would I go about getting this to work right? Is there a way to do this with MySQL also? So that I don't have to use MSSQL? My server only allows 1 DataBase for that.
Thanks and I hope my question makes sense. It is basically how can I get it to be able to create and check users etc. online?

We just changed the dev environment to sqlagent. From then we were unable to see the reports on the report server because:
An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot create a connection to data source 'IHRSDataSource'.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
this error is cropping up.
To Resolve this issue, we checked the Surface Area Configuration and also checked the Reporting Service Configuration . There seem to be no problem and everything looks ok.
Please help me in resolving this issue.

After I installed the various service packs via Windows Update, my WindowsForms application can no longer connect to the server.
The error message is:

I am new to dotnet. I tried connecting to the database MS SQL Server 2000. I gave the code like, the one below, in form load event,

hi all
I realised this has been done to death, and so much information out there but I am still in a quandry.
I have had to rebuild my computer.
This is what I did
XP machine
using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
using Windows Authentication
NZ6(MSSQLSERVER)
straight default install all the way
unfortunately when ready to run reports from my instance(computer)
I received the error as in provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server
thought I had it all okayed but obviously something not right
so ended up unistalling then - did the following:
Load SQL Server from disc1 and start install
failed on alter Counter Registry key error
fixed this from KB article (known error that can happen)
restarted
Went to Windows Update
check IIS is installed - tick is on - IIS - admin tools - make sure asp2 is associated - yes ok
Then back to install sql server - there is no instance set up yet
Disk 2 and setup .exe
All ok on Reporting Services, Analysis etc.
But once again all seems fine but still getting the error:
connection is all fine in Management Studio - eg I can see tables etc
connection is all fine in Business Intelligence - eg I can preview my reports
I then can deploy up to - NZ6
open NZ6
eports
report is there fine - but just errors
some simple little tick that I have not done!!
I seem to have checked and rechecked everything and obviously doing another re-install does not seem a logical step from here.
I will continue to check but if someone jump in and advise please would be great.

Hi all,
I am currently on XP x64 and am trying to run a .vbs file, which needs access to an access file when the following error pops up:
"Provider is not specified and there is no designated default provider"
error code: 800a0ea9
source: ADODB.Connection
I have tried a bunch of stuff, but so far nothing has worked.
The following code is is question:
set AccessDB = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
AccessDB.Open("DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=" & sMSAccessDBPath)
any help would be appreciated......could I run this with cscript.exe (in the WoW64 folder) in through cmd.exe?

A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. I think this might be a good place to ask the following question.
I am writing the error handling code for my data access layer for a web application. I am using the Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block. Although this supports generic database connections, I realized that I need to handle errors specific to each database type. Microsoft SQL is the only database type I am using for now, so I am using a try...catch (SqlException e).
In testing my code, I intentionally changed the instance name in web.config to a name that does not exist. I get the very popular error 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified. This is returned as a SqlException, but the SqlError.Number property is set to -1.
Am I getting "-1" because the provider hasn't actually connected to SQL yet, so it doesn't have an actual SQL error number?
Can I assume that (SqlError.Number == -1) is always a fatal, provider-level connection exception?
Will the provider ever use another SqlError.Number of its own? Or do all numbers besides -1 come from the SQL sysmessages table?.
Is there a comprehensive list of what exceptions might be raised by the SqlClient provider, including #26?
The reason for all the questions is that in a web application, I want to prevent the end-user from seeing the "real" exception if it has to do with configuration errors. However, maybe there are other errors that the user should see and handle? It's hard to know without a full list of SqlClient provider errors, along with the SqlError.Number that each error maps to.

This is what I need to see in my database column:

Is there a setting on the column in SQL Server 7.0 that I can set to pad the column with zero's?

I am new to SSIS but I am learning fast. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have written a custom log provider derived from LogProviderBase. I want to programmtically add the custom log provider to my package, but when I try this:
myPackage.LogProviders.Add("ACustomLogProvider");
I get the following exception:
"The log provider type "ACustomLogProvider" specified for log provider "{..GUID..}" is not recognized as a valid log provider type. This error occurs when an attempt is made to create a log provider for unknown log provider type. Verify the spelling in the log provider type name".
I have followed the instructions in BOL and as suggested in this forum, adding the DtsLogProvider attribute:
[DtsLogProvider(DisplayName="ACustomLogProvider", LogProviderType="ACustomLogProvider", Description="a description")]
Another way I tried is that I added a GUID attribute to my custom log provider class and then tried this:
Type aType = typeof(ACustomLogProvider);
Guid aGUID = (Guid)aType.GUID;
myPackage.LogProviders.Add("{"+ aGUID.ToString() +"}");
This also gives me the same exception "The log provider type ""{..the actual GUID for ACustomLogProvider..}" specified for log provider "{..a different GUID..}" is not recognized as a valid log provider type....
My questions are: Is it possible to add a custom log provider programmtically or must it be done through the SSIS Designer?
Must I deploy my custom log provider class for it to work programmatically? (I had perhaps wrongly assumed I would not have to deploy if I don't want it to show up in the SSIS Designer).
I would prefer to use a custom log provider instead of just logging within the SSIS event handlers because I can override the OnPostExecute, etc. but I cannot (can I?) override the specific event handlers like PackageStart, PackageEnd, etc because they are not exposed through DTSEvents.

I have a search box to look up using a number as an identifier. Currently my query is where x = @enteredNumber, but some place where a user might get the number it is padded with zeros. We can have them just see the number and retype it.
EG: 000000123 would be entered as 123.
But, I would like to let them copy and paste, but then strip the zeros (left padding only).
EG:
@num = stripPadding(@enteredNumber)
IE:
@num = stripPadding(000000123)
@num = 123

upgraded to 7.0 and all was fine until...
we run a job that pull selected fields from a table and writes them to a dos text file.
(tables get loaded via bcp)
Pre-7.0, all varchar data was correctly output without any padding.
NOW, all varchar fields are padded with spaces on output.
tried toggling the Set ansi_padding switch before creating table def, didn't work.
HELP! (please?)

I've been to the knowledge base, read the article on ansi padding, ran the test scripts.
But when I ran the select to display the columns,
THE OUTPUT FOR BOTH TABLES WAS IDENTICAL!!!
Apparently the SET ANSI_PADDING ON/OFF option had no effect!
What am i doing wrong? What is missing? Do i have to run the Set Ansi Padding option in the Master DB
context? Have I unknowingly overridden the option somewhere else? Must I brush up on my COBOL
for a career change?

It will be output concatenated with the last name field,and each field separated with a "|". However, I can understand that multiple spaces are not goingto render in the client browser, if indeed the query is padding withspaces.Question: Instead of using space(), can replicate() be used and aunicode space representation rather than an actual space be used? I need a table similar to Fig-1 on my report. The subtotal and total lines need top padding and solid border at top and bottom. I€™m currently using bottom padding of 20pt on the sub total row and setting the border style property of the sub total and total rows to solid at top and bottom. But the problem is that the sub total rows are being padded first and then the border at the bottom is being set to solid. As a result, my table looks something similar to figure 2, which is not acceptable to my customer. I also tried by setting the top padding of the lines below subtotals, but it doesn't give me what I need. Any way I can set the border before padding? Appreciate your help.

Hi,
I need a simpler way of doing this:
I've a number column which I need to show as a 3 digit field in a string:
Example:
number =1; string = 010
number =10; string =100
is there any function that can do this string manipulation?
Currently I'm using a CASE statement to check the length of this number column,
if its single digit I use:
SUBSTRING(('0' + CONVERT(VARCHAR,CONVERT(INT,ISNULL(D.Number,E.Number)))+'0'),1,3)
else I use
CONVERT(VARCHAR,CONVERT(INT,ISNULL(D.Number,E.Number)))+'0')
Is there a better way of doing this?

I've created an asp.net page that takes the content of text boxes and writes them to a sql table.
The problem is that when I examine the resulting data in the SQL database, I find that the fields written to have had padding added (up to the maximum size of the fields).
I was under the impression that fields of type NVARCHAR did not store padding (only the no of characters being stored).
I've checked it's not the text boxes on the aspx page by explicitly posting values instead of the boxes content and the same thing happens.

I'm inserting 4-digit codes into my db table where the column is a smallint type. Some of these codes begin with 0's, like "0003". How can I format the val in this column to always have the extra 0's in front?
