I have some tables linked from MS SQL Server 2000. Is time of processing
query
based on these linked tables from MS SQL Server 2000, faster or slower than
the time of processing the same query based on tables, which are not linked
but
imported to MS Access?

I have a Microsoft Access application which uses linked SQL Server tables. I would like to create an ODBC DSN which would be available to all users so that I don't have to create a DSN on each machine. Can this be done? I setup a new ODBC connection to MS SQL Server 2000 on Windows XP and keep getting the following errors when I try to
either register a new SQL Server 2000 group within Enterprise Manager or test the new ODBC connection:

Now here is what has me totally confused:
I can use the command line ISQL to access the database on the server and IP is all correct and port is available.

I am getting the error message as "DIAG [00000] [ODBC Access Driver 52.1.150.0] -26 Driver not capable (-26)" at the time of retrieving the catalog infromation by SqlTables methode. it is shown "?" as catalogname but this not supported by odbc access driver. can you please help out how can i resolve using C++ code in SqlTables methode.

I need detailed instructions on how to connect to a database from a Microsoft Access 2007 database to a Microsft Office Accounting 2007 database. The accounting database is an SQL 2005 datbase. It has an instance name of "MSSMLBIZ".
When I try I get an SQL error 53. Do not have permissions or database does not exist.

When I choose ODBC from the link tables wizard it just disapears. No error message at all just poof. Any one have any ideas?

XP. However, when I try to add a new data source through ODBC Connection
Manager, SQL Native Client is not listed as an option. I have followed this procedure on three other systems with no problems. What would be causing the
SQL Native Client to not show up in the list of available ODBC data sources?
i have msde 2000 running on a server i am able to create an odbc connection to my db on that pc. when i try to create anpther odbc connection on another pc on that network i get the following error:

When I create a new odbc connection to a SQL server 2005 Db I get a failure telling me dat de SQL server does not allow remote connections.
How can I allow the server to allow this.

I have an Access2000 ADP that I want to run under Access2007. The problem I have is that some forms take up to 45 seconds to open in Access2007! These are not complicated forms--just simple navigable reference forms like setting up transaction types etc. that are based on basic select statements like:
SELECT * FROM ArReceivableType
Where ArReceivableType is a reference table (less than 10 columns, all int or nvarchar(100) max) containing about 15 or 20 rows. They open instantly in Access2000.
I put a trace on to see what is happening on the SQL Server, and I noticed heaps of nasty code like this that generates tens of thousands of reads:

It looks like Access2007 is reading all of the constraints for the underlying table, including all foreign keys. My SQL database contains 1400+ tables all with properly constructed foreign keys and other constraints.
Any suggestion on how to NOT have Access2007 do this? Right now, Access2000 works great for this enterprise app, but I really like the new Access2007 features (and I don't want to still be developing Access2000 apps in 2010).
I am using SSIS 2014 with the below .net framework version and installed in Windows server 2012 R2 . I have installed my client's odbc drivers (both 32 bit and 64 bit) in my production server and created ODBC system DSNs for 32 bit and 64 bit.

why i can not see the ODBC 64 bit system DSN connection from SSIS in my production server ?

I am using VB.NET 2005 and set up an ODBC connection via ODBC.ODBCConnection to a MDB database. Therefor, I use the "Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*.mdb)".
When I set up a ODBCCommand like "ALTER DATABASE..." or "CREATE TABLE..." and issue it with the com.ExecuteNonQuery() command, I get an error from ODBC driver, that a SQL statement has to begin with SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE.
How can I use DDL statements via ODBC?
I would appreciate if you could help me to use ODBC for that - no OLE, no ADO.

When trying to connect to the server outside the firewall through an ODBC connection string, we get the following error:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database requested in login '[database name]'. Login fails.
When trying to uncover some more information pertaining to this problem, we get the associated error number, 4060. When researching this number, we see that the number has an associated error severity code of 11. Thus Microsoft is saying that it is a problem that could be corrected at the user level. Ok, I am missing something. I give. Does anyone have a new idea or an approach on which I can begin to uncover new information? We have also checked the database login and the login for the MTSServices is in fact able to access the database through an integrated login with NT Security. Also the Domain Administrator for User Rights does not have the specific NT Group enabled to log onto the computer from the network but the 'Everyone' field is still on the server. I'm writing a VB app to read and write data to an SQL server database.
I have successfully done so using ADO however I now need to do it using ODBC.
I have set up the appropriate DSN and have no trouble reading data from the database but when I try to write to it I get a message indicating that the database is open for read only access.
I'm no sure whether the restriction is and the VB, ODBC, or database level.
Here's the code which opens the database and recordset.

I use Business Objects XI R2 (BOXI) to report against a SQL Server 2000 database using an ODBC connection.
When I query the database using Enterprise Manager on the server I can make use of all functions available within SQL Server, yet when I access it via the ODBC connection I only get a very small subset of SQL Server functions available.
I can use the inbuilt BOXI functions, which work on the data locally, but would like the functions processed on the server instead.
Is this constraint a property of the ODBC driver, and if so are there other drivers which would expose all of the available SQL Server functions.
Any suggestions appreciated.

I have a strange problem accessing a MS SQL Database from my network.
I'm using an application that is based on BDE which uses ODBC to connect to a MS SQL DB.
When I tried to connect from the network with BDE,I got this error message:
BDE Error : 13059

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).
On the server side I'm using W2003 EE ,MS SQL 2000 Standard with SP4, BDE5.11.
On the client side it's an XP SP2 with MS SQL Client installed, same BDE 5.11
When I create an alias using ODBC and mapping to my server, it connects and the communication with the Database Server succeds:
TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY!
When I'm trying to connect using BDE Admin and double clicking on the + sign of the alias I created usind ODBC admin I get the message I listed above.

When I am trying to access SQL Server 2000 database from another machine i got this error
Server: MSg 17, Level 16, State 1 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied
but I could access the database on same server and in that server i could access other databases in different server.
I have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.
But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013. The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.
I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.
We have installed SQL 7.0 Client to connect to the SQL server 7.0. After installing the client (which updated all ODBC drivers) the database connections, even ODBC calls using MS access drivers become extremely slow. Any hints where to look?

im trying to create an ODBC data source from a SQL SERVER 2005 database located in a remoted pc.
Client----------->PC1 : win 2000 sp4, not sql server
Remote server--->PC2 : win 2000 sp4, sql server 2005 express
From the Command Prompt, im typing "ping PC2" successfully.
After, in the ODBC datasource administrator-->System DNS tab, i choose "sql server" as a new data source , and in the server box , i'm typing PC2/SQLEXPRESS.
In the next steps, im typing the user-passwords.
The error :

Hi,I have two, similar SQL Server 7.0 databases (in the same SQL ServerGroup) that I use as the backend for two Access 2000 front endapplications - one is the live version, the other is the developmentversion.The live version works fine. But the other version is read-only, i.e.no changes can be made to the data in the tables, over the ODBCconnection.Both systems have similar ODBC connection properties, the permissionsettings on the SQL Server databases are the same - users, tableaccess, database access, etc. The connections use Windowsauthenication and the users are set up in SQL Server security loginswith public and db_owner selected.Has anyone seen or heard of this problem and does anyone have anyideas on how to fix it?I appreciate any comments or suggestions you may have.Thanks,Chris

I have to run this stored procedure from my C application program running in SUN OS2.9 with the help of ODBC calls.
Can anyone guide me through steps as to how to run the store procedure from my C program and receive records with the help of the cursor.

I just installed SQL 2005 on a backup/test server. When I connected with ODBC to the new server I lost all of my ODBC connections, even to the working server (SQL 2000). I did a full repair on XP and got the ODBC to connect. Why would connecting to SQL 2005 cause my ODBC to crash ?. I tried using SQL Native as well, with no joy to either server. My ODBC isn't working again. The problem began as being intermittent, i.e. connected one minute, lost connection the next. Now it's permanently disconnected and I'm not even sure the reinstall was a solution.

I have an SQL Server running my database, I connect to it through a VPN, I'm linking tables with it using ODBC from my Access database. I can see the data without problems. But when I attempt to run a query in my Access which basically creates a local copy of a table I sometimes get the following error: -7776.
After having searched a bit for the error, I found out that it is an ODBC error that is concerning date/time conversion.
-7776 SQLGetData(SQL_C_TIMESTAMP)
Illegal date/time value returned.
I do not have any timestamp datatypes in my SQL server table, they are all datetime datatypes. I have checked the data, all of the dates seem legal dates, no NULL values.
The problem is not consistent, it does not occur at every attempt, it appears about every third time but not consistently. And not at the same location each time. If I stop importing my datetime column, I avoid the error.
From my home location I do not get the error, and neither if I run without my company firewall. However from within the company firewall the error occurs at random times, and at random locations (always the datetime column though).
I find this extremely weird, and even though the problem could seem to be my firewall I somewhat doubt that, since I'm able to see the data if I use a SELECT query, but not when making a Make table one. And since it is always concerning my datetime column (which is not called datetime, datetime is simply the datatype).
I am using Access 2003 and SQL Server 2005.
If you need any further details, please do not hesitate to write.

I am a real newbie to SQL Server 2000 and databases in general. I am on a WINXP box. I am using an ODBC connection in a perl script. My problem is this. I get this error in my perl script when I try to execute a query against an existing table in my database:
DBD::ODBC::st execute failed: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'wrk_taxonomic_unit'. (SQL-42S02)
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Statement(s) could not be prepared. (SQL-42000)(DBD: st_execute/SQLExecute err=-1) at validate.pl line 89.
DBD::ODBC::st fetchrow_array failed: (DBD: no select statement currently executing err=-1) at validate.pl line 90.
The problem seems to be the table name. if I append the owner of the database to the front of the table name, it works. I don't really like this solution. Is there something I can specify in my DSN to avoid this dilemma? Any help is appreciated.
SQL Server and the service pack seemed to install fine on a Windows 2003 Standard box. I configured the ODBC connection and got a "connection successful". However, when the next application tries to install, i am getting the "data source name not found and no driver specified". My client and db box are the same. Is my client not configured correctly?
