Hi there guys I am hitting my head against a brick wall trying to install SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 side by side and wonder if someone has a suggestion that may help please.
My operating system is win xp 32 bit, I have recently purchased this machine and it came with office 2007 already pre installed which comes with a named instance version of sql 2005 business contact manager, I then installed a default instance of sql 2000 (with SP 4)client tools and the server with no problem , I then purchased a cd of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition (32-Bit)for me to install to run alongside the 2000 version that is currently running on the same machine when all hell broke loose.
I selected the option saying install server components, tools , books online etc etc.
I agree to the licence agreement
Setup then installs Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup support Files succesfully, I press next...
Welcome to the Microsoft SQL Server installation wizard then comes up, I press next
System Configuration check brings back 14 successsful status messages and one warning message namely Edition Change Check warning
saying :

Messages
Edition Change Check
To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter.
I ignore above and press Next..
It then comes up with registration information which i succesfully complete, pressing Next
I then select all the components to install and press next
I then set it up to be a named instance 'MSSQL2005DATA', fine >> pressed next
Then I set it up to run under the local system account , fine. >> pressed next.
Then using windows authentication mode pressed next >>
Left collation settings as per default pressed next >>
Install the default configuration in the report server installation options message box, I pressed next >> which then comes up with the following message :
(SQL Server Setup failed to obtain system account information for the ASPNET account. To proceed, reinstall the .net framework and then run SQL server Setup again)
i don't have a copy of the .net framework so I select the install but do not configure the server option.
Setup then comes up with Ready to install message box which i then press the install button, which shows the following:
Setup Progress Files Status:
SQL SETUP Support Setup Finished
OWC11 Setup failed, Refer to log
coming up with a error:
ERROR 1706 Setup cannot find the required files,Check your connection to the network, or cd rom, For other potential solutions to this problem, see c:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice111033Setup.chm
I then press ok
and the setup progress fails to install :
OWC11

Analysis Services

Notification Services
Integration Services
Workstation Components
but I can't view any of these log files the only one that is available to view is sqlsetup0014_PCName_OWC11_1.log which comes up with the same message

I have tried installing office 2003 to get the 0wc11.dll but to no avail it still gives me the same error..
Sorry this is a long winded post but can anyone shed a ray of light here.
Thank you.
Hi how to install SQL 2005 Standard Edition with CAL License???
-Thanks N Regards,
Kanthi.
Hi,
I am running SQL2005 SP1 Standard Edition in Win2k3 , when i try to install SP2, at the initial stage itself it fails with login failure message. But with the same SA password i am able to login to the Management studio. I tried with Windows authentication , that also fails. Service is running with local system account and i am logged in the server using the administrator user.
Looks like i am missing something in the process.
Can anyone tell me what could be the issue?
Thanks in advance.

Dear,
I Had VS20005 and SQL 2005 Working perfectly. For some errors, I did formatted my PC and installed VS2008. After doing that, I am trying to install MSSQL2005, when installation be in "Integration development environment with 2005" Phase, An error appears, and the installation stopped. What I have to Do to solve this?
Note: I ahve XPSP2 32 bit installed.
I get an error when trying to install the SQL Native Client. It
says it cannot find the installation package and to use a valid copy of
'sqlncli.msi'. I've downloaded the Express setup twice and get
the same error from both of them.
I'm attempting this in a VMWare session setup for Windows 2K, Advanced
Server. I am trying to test my installation and setup
procedures. This is not a production setup, just install testing
and documentation. I have allocated only 272MB to the VMWare
session, which is why the system doesn't meet the recommended settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm new to SQL2005 and am curious. In fact, I still don't totally understand if express is installed or just a file like access. :)

Hello, I hope I am posting this question in the right forum. I have been working on some ASP applications and using them to connect to a MySQL database. I would like to move all of the data from MySQL over to SQL2005 Express. The problem is that the express version doesn't offer an import/export tool for CSV files. I am able to export my table data from MySQL to a CSV file, how can I import this data into my SQL2005 Ex database? Thanks.

I am currently using MSDE as the Db for a website and using (cheating?)
enterprise manager i have created and scheduled a backup job that the
agent runs.
Now I am wanting to upgrade the Database to SQL2005 Express but I want
to have a similar scheduled backup job. From the reading of the
OLBs it appears I have to manually create a script but I don't know how
to schedule the running of the script.
So my questions are:
1. How do you schedule the running of a back up script in SQL Express? and,
2. Is there a tool that automates the creation of a script similar to how you do it in the old Enterprise manager?
TIA
Antony
We are coming out of the dark ages with our app using SQL 7 and, following the excellent advice of the folks here on SQLTeam, installing SQL 2005 Express on our new webserver.
Not being terribly fluent in all things SQL, I was wondering if anybody could provide input on the best practices for getting SQL 2005 Express going on the new server.
So far I've:
- Installed SQL 2005 Express
- Downloaded and "installed" the SSEUtil for CMD line instructions
- Downloaded and installed the graphical management interface (very nice, makes me feel more comfortable - like SQL 7 console!)
- Copied backup files (made using SQL backup maintenance) to the new server
Should I simply create an empty db of the same name on the 2005 server and then restore the 7 data? Or ????
I searched briefly for previous posts of this nature and didn't find too much info so I hope I'm not duplicating effort here...
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Mmmmmkay. Yeah, did you get the memo about the TPS reports?
Hi,

Im able to ping the server without any issues but when I try to attach to the server by using Connect option on the SMSE installed on my machine, I see my other sql 2005 express boxes and my sql2000 box but I cannot see my new SQL2005 Express box.

Hi,
I have an aplication (VS2005 and Sql2005 Express), where I need to lock a table when opening one form, and then close it when completing another form.
Is there a way to do this, maybe using a Stored Procedure.? I'd prefer to be still able to access the table in read only mode if possible.
I've looked at pessimistic concurrency, but the particular part of my application is not using a dataset, being based upon SqlCommand.ExecuteScalar(), so I'm fairly sure this is not an option.
Thanks
Excuse the cross post (to VBexpress fourum) but maybe someone here will have a different take?
have searched all around can't seem to see how to configure a SQL2005 developer ed so I can use vb express to develop a local front end. keep getting "the user instance login flag is not supported on this version of sql server" I have configured the .net framework via aspnet_regsql.exe. Also I configured the "Machine.config" file. but so far no luck.
Selecting sql2005 as the server thru the add new database connection in advanced area yields the error message
surely there is away.
So far still no joy,
While Scotty indicates that the connection to SQL2005 is intentionally hampered other posters indicate that the user instance problem can be solved by running the .net config tool to add the asp database to sql server, which I have done.
However this does not yet work.
I cannot get the code to spark yet.
Again my configuration cannot be any simpler. sql express sp1 and sqldeveloper on the same machine using windows security (all installed with default cofigurations)
In the absence of other ideas I may try to get sql express downloaded and going, I'm not sure what issues that will present re: what I'm trying to develop.
I'm trying to develop the skills to replace some fairly involved reporting and some user table interface that I had going in access2003, I hate to pruchace a big piece of sw when I don't know if it will remove the current roadblocks...
Appreciate the help here, but doesn't someone have a "simpler" complete answer? I.e. one that would get the developer database to accept the connection wizard? (user instance issue)
We are experiencing a major issue since upgrading from SQL2000 to SQL2005 over the weekend. Starting today, it appears that the performance of SQLServer reaches a limit every 15 minutes.
Our configuration is as follows:
Window Server 2K3 x64 Enterprise
SQLServer 2005 x64 Enterprise
HP DL585 with 4 dual core Opterons
32 GB of RAM
2 TB EMC SAN
At first, I thought there was a memory pressure problem, since I had the default max memory set. After changing the max memory to only 25 GB (out of 32 available), the issue went away temporarily. However, after 15-20 minutes, the number of batches/sec dropped in half, and remained after half until I changed the max memory setting again. Over the course of the day, I was able to fix the issue each time by just changing the max memory by 1MB. (From 30,000 to 29,999 and back from 29,999 to 30,000). Each time, the batches/sec counter immediately doubles and remains there for about 15-20 minutes. None of the SQL statements have changed since upgrading.
I have found this post, which talks about a similar issue at the end of the thread:
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=746299&SiteID=1
Any ideas?...this is frustrating to no end.
Thanks!

I recently come to problem. I want to deploy my web site, which uses SQL2005EE extensively, so I began searching for host, SHARED HOSTING solution. I haven't find one offering SQL2005EE on .NET2.0 final frameworkI have been told that there isn't ONE host which would offer SQL2005EE on Final .NET2.0 shared hosting, that it is illegal! Only if the shared host provided is free, which is insufficient in my needs (free hosts have low trafic/disk space etc).Is it true? If I pay for hosting, I can't have SQL2005EE as an option in their hosting plan? Just SQL2005 full as an option? This way I need to pick up some expensive shared hosting plan? How you ppl solved this problem?

Hi,
I'm trying to migrate a MSDE based application into a SQL2005 Express SP2 DB Engine on Windows Vista Business but I'm facing several errors that are blocking me.
Since the installation of SQL2005 Expr. must be done in a silent mode (the end user shouldn't set anything), I'm installing it using this syntax:
SQLEXPRSP2_ITA.EXE -q /norebootchk /qb reboot=ReallySuppress addlocal=all instancename=CSERV DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0 SQLBROWSERAUTOSTART=1 SQLACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM" SQLBROWSERACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM" AGTACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM" ASACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM" RSACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM"
The installation proceeds without problems but when my program tries to create the database, a message error appears:
CREATE DATABASE denied on database 'master' (I translated directly from italian).
What I would like is to install SQL 2005 with "Windows Authentication" access instead of "SQL Authentication".
If I install SQL2005 manually by setting a named instance (CSERV), Windows Authentication mode, activating the option "set the local account as SQL administrative account" (translated from italian and suggested with Vista) I get the following error (read from the LOG):
CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5 (access denied) while attempting to open or create the physical file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerCSERVDataCGIDBDat.mdf'
CSERVData is the folder that the application creates and where the "mdf" and "ldf" files are stored.
So in the first case it seems that SQL2005 don't recognize the local account as administrator even if the user has administrative privileges (at least for Vista), in the second case is Vista that is blocking the action.
What is the solution??
Thank you and regards.

In SQL 2000, I had a working DTS package that would import a Pervasive SQL database into SQL 2000 (There is a good reason, provided on request). The column type definitions came over just fine in SQL 2000 with a few minor changes.
In SQL 2005 (SSIS), i create a Data Source via the Connection Manager (Provider: .Net ProvidersOdbc Data Provider) to the Pervasive database (System DSN, <database_odbc>). I then create a Data Destination via the Connection Manager (Provider: Native OLE DBSQL Native Client) to the SQL database. Both databases reside on the same machine.
I've created a DataSource Reader and used the sql command, "select * from ARCustomer" as an example. The issue is with "data types" for the columns. They don't come close to resembling the results that i had in SQL 2000 DTS.
Is there another method or parameter setting that will preserve the "data types" for the columns being imported from the Pervasive database.
This has been a real stumbling block and any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your assistance ... Bernie

I'm trying to set up my first SSIS package to import a flat file to a
database table. The connection manager will not allow a text
qualifier.
My data is comma delimited, with doublequotes around each field. If I
enter " as the text qualifier, then I get the error "The preview sample
contains embedded text qualifiers ("). The flat file parser does not
support embedding text qualifiers in data. Parsing columns that
contain data with text qualifiers will fail at run time." The data in
Columns view shows as just one column rather than multiple columns.
If I leave the text qualifier as None, then the data in Columns view
shows as just one column again.
I've tried with more than one datafile, including a short sample file
that I set up manually. All files get the same error.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
Thanks much for any assistance!

Hi experts.
Challenge: Datapumping. To copy daily production data from N x 100 SQL 2k servers to one central SQL2k5 server.
Sometimes copying task might demand transferring schema objects like temp tables and procedures from sql2005 to sql2000.
Since system organisation is different, what would be the best approach ?
