I am using Maximizer Enterprise 8.0 as my companies CRM solution. Currently
we are using the included Pervasive SQL that shipps with the product. Is
there someone out that who could tell me if there are any performance
benefits to switching the Pervasive Engine with a Microsoft SQL engine.
My company is trying to determine if they need to upgrade from our current Platinum accounting application that uses pervasive SQL V8 to another version of Platinum that uses SQL server 2000.
My manager wants a in-depth analysis comparing pervasive SQL V8 to SQL server 2000.
I have searched the web extensively but information is scarce.
Are there any articles or case studies that do an indepth analysis comparing both databases? Can someone please help me. It would be greatly appreciated.
There used to be a Whitepaper on the Microsoft website comparing SQL server (2000?) against Pervasive SQL or 2000, the link was http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/sql/.
But it's not working anymore.
Does anyone have a copy of this paper, or know where it's now located? I've been looking for hours and can't find it.
I am trying to use a DTS package to extract data from an old Pervasive SQL 2000 (Btrieve) data source, and copy into an MS SQL Server table.
I have installed the Pervasive ODBC driver and got linked tables in Access working. I can see the data.
When I create the DTS package, it shows a list of the tables in the drop-down, but when I hit the Preview button I get an unspecified error. I can finish setting up the DTS package, the new MS SQL Sever table gets created, and the field transformations all look correct. However, when I execute the package it fails. In the logs, I get an unspecified error, the only error code I get in log is: 80074005.
I am trying to write a stored procedure for the first time. I am using pervasive 9.0. I am tying together a secure desktop messaging system with a web application. I will be passing the data that matches what the desktop app needs to fill in the tables.
The issue is that the desktop app uses tow tables to do messaging. One table (PDSMSGC) that stores the relevant information about the message: sender, recipient, notes, phone number, etc. The other table (MEMOS) stores the message text and references back to the "PDSMSGC" table (The memos table in the desktop app is used for more than just the messaging system.)
So both tables have unique IDs that are referenced in both tables. For example: MEMOS.ParentID = PDSMSGC.MessageID PDSMSGC.MemoID = MEMOS.MemoID
here are the column definitions:
My question is: Does this seem like a properly formed set of commands and can you think of a better way to do this?
Here is what I have written so far:
CREATE PROCEDURE usp_webmessgaing (in :RecipientID CHAR, in :PatientID UINTEGER, in :PatientName CHAR, in :MemoText LONGVARCHAR, in :PatientPhone DECIMAL);
INSERT INTO MEMOS (ParentID, FieldName, MemoText) VALUES (:PatientID, 'Xholder', :MemoText);
SELECT :NewMemoID = MemoID FROM MEMOS WHERE MEMOS.ParentID = :PatientID AND MEMOS.FieldName = 'Xholder' AND MEMOS.MemoText = :MemoText;
SELECT :NewMessageID = MessageID FROM PDSMSGC WHERE PDSMSGC.MsgFrom = :PatientName AND PDSMSGC.PrimaryID = :PatientID AND PDSMSGC.MemoID = :PatientID AND PDSMSGC.TimeTaken = CurDate() AND PDSMSGC.TakeOper = 'WEB' AND PDSMSGC.BeenRead = '5';
UPDATE MEMOS SET ParentID = :NewMessageID, FieldName = 'pmc:MemoID', MemoText = :MemoText WHERE MEMOS.MemoID = :NewMemoID;
UPDATE PDSMSGC SET ToOper = :RecipientID, MsgFrom = :PatientName, MemoID = :NewMemoID, BeenRead = '0' WHERE PDSMSGC.MessageID = :NewMessageID;
Hi All,Thanks in advance for the help.We are considering a new Project. This project is going to be totallyweb based.Currently my company is using Pervasive SQL 2000i for there ERP needs.Will the existing Pervasive SQL 2000i itself serve the purpose ORshould I consider moving to MS SQL Server.Do assist me in terms of development also i.e. Is it easier to codewith Pervasive SQL 2000i or with MS SQL Server.RegardsSamson
Is it possible to run MSDE and Pervasive SQL on the same machine ? If possible but not recommended I'd really appreciate the reasons why it should not be done. If not possible I'd also really appreciate hearing why.
Has anyone successfully imported data from pervasive over the .net managed odbc bridge? Our admin has set up a odbc connection that works through Excel, but in SSIS the connection manager errors when trying to connect at runtime (the "test connection" button in the connection wizard reports that everything is ok though).
In SQL 2000, I had a working DTS package that would import a Pervasive SQL database into SQL 2000 (There is a good reason, provided on request). The column type definitions came over just fine in SQL 2000 with a few minor changes.
In SQL 2005 (SSIS), i create a Data Source via the Connection Manager (Provider: .Net ProvidersOdbc Data Provider) to the Pervasive database (System DSN, <database_odbc>). I then create a Data Destination via the Connection Manager (Provider: Native OLE DBSQL Native Client) to the SQL database. Both databases reside on the same machine.
I've created a DataSource Reader and used the sql command, "select * from ARCustomer" as an example. The issue is with "data types" for the columns. They don't come close to resembling the results that i had in SQL 2000 DTS.
Is there another method or parameter setting that will preserve the "data types" for the columns being imported from the Pervasive database.
This has been a real stumbling block and any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your assistance ... Bernie
Hi all, I currently have a project that I need to export Pervasive SQL into SQL 2005 database and I don't know what tool or steps that need to do this. Is there anyone can help me on this?
We just upgraded our accounting packages database from Pervasive 8.1 to V9.11. MY SSIS extract packages were working just fine. Now I am getting several erros stating that some columns cannot be found:
For example, in the [sysdtslog90] table, I have these errors:
Column "CreditLimitAmt" cannot be found at the datasource. or
Column "RsrvRptky" cannot be found at the datasource. (from a different pkg)
The table schemas did not change, the columns still exist. The SQL I use also runs just fine in the client interface.
Has anyone experienced this? The bottom line is that now the extract packages are broken.
I am currently migrating from SQL 7.0 to SQL2005. So far everything is going well except for one thing, my linked server to a Pervasive 8.6 server database. I've done the same configurations as with the SQL 7.0 server to create the linked server. I've created an Pervasive ODBC Client DSN system connection on the server called PervasiveDB pointing to the DataDB catalog, using TCP/IP as transport and the server name "PervasiveDB" as the server address. From this point, on the SQL2005 server, the DSN connection is successfull and I can see the different catalog names of the PervasiveDB server. When I create the Linked server on the SQL2005, I create exactly as done on the SQL7.0 which is :
SQL7.0 server : OS is Windows 2000 all service packs applied for both OS and SQL7.0
SQL2005 server : OS is Windows2003 standard edition all service packs applied for both OS and SQL2005.
Linked server name : TestPervasive
Provider : Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers
Product name: Pervasive
Data source: PervasiveDB
Location: PervasiveDB
Catalog : DataDB
I get the following error when I try to query the data to test if the linked server I just created is successful:
query : SELECT * FROM testpervasive.DataDB..schedule
error message:
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "TestPervasive" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "TestPervasive".
Anybody can help me on this one? I would greatly appreciate it !!
Pleeeease help? I get an error when expanding the Tables object under linked servers in Enterprise Manager on a MSSQL2000 server.
I have a standard install of the Pervasive.SQL V8 data engine and DemoData db on my local PC. The SQL Server is also on my local PC.
I manage to create the Linked Server using the MSSQL Enterprise Manager. I used the following configuration:
Provider Name: Pervasive.SQL V8 OLE DB Provider Product Name: Pervasive.SQL V8 Data source: DemoData Provider string: <blank> Location: workstation03 Catalog: <blank>
However when I try to expand the tables object under Linked Servers in the Enterprise manager I get the following error.
Error 7311: Could not obtain the schema rowset for the OLE DB provider 'UNKNOWN'. The provider supports the interface, but retuns a failure code when it is used. OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'UNKNOWN' IDBSchemaRowset::GetRowset returned 0x80040155 ].
Thanks in advance. What is maximum SQL Server database (*.mdf) file size with SQL Server 2000 as part of Microsoft Small Business Server 2000? (Database files were limited to 10 GB in SBS 4.5 with SQLServer 7.0... has this changed?).
Am very new to MS SQL adminstration Can anybody help me out how to work on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) Release A just for the practice.
The activity which am going to workout on MSDE is below.
How to install SQL(on XP) How the layout will be(like if i insall MSDE what are all Application will be and how they depends on each other) How to create/delete tables if so, how can we do it either by GUI or CUI
Hi,Simple question: A customer has an application using Access 2000frontend and SQL Server 2000 backend. Data connection is over ODBC.There are almost 250 concurrent users and is growing. Have theysqueezed everything out of Access? Should the move to a VB.Net frontendtaken place ages ago?CheersMike
Hi, Just upgraded some development desktops to Vista Business. However we need to still connect to some older remote windows 2000/SQL 2000 servers.
Trying to setup an ODBC system DSN on our Vista Business local desktop we get the following errors -
-START ERROR WINDOW- Connection Failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 772 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (SECDoClientHandshake()0. Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 18 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]SSL Security Error -END ERROR WINDOW-
Any help greatly appreciated as this is stopping us from making database/table connections etc. We've checked the firewall setup and all is well there.
PS - we can still connect fine using XP or windows 2000 desktops and their local DSNs.
I am attempting to move some SQL 2000 databases to SQL 2005. My main production database does not seem to want to move. When I use the SQL 2005 GUI the .bak backup file is marked 'Incomplete'. When I attempt to restore the backup file I get a 'RESTORE detected an error on page (0:0) in database' message. I saw a thread in the SQL Express forum suggesting trying to restore from the T-SQL level to get the GUI out of the picture and I get the same 'error on page (0:0)' message. However when I take the same file and use SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager it restores with no problems.
Hi, I am trying to edit some data from a SQL2000-datasource in ASP.NET 2.0 and have a problem with a column that has bit-data and is used for selection. SQL2005 works fine when declaring <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="TRUE" Name="APL" Type="boolean" /> </SelectParameters>When running this code with SQL2000, there are no error-msgs, but after editing a record the "APL"-column looses its value of 1 and is set to 0. Looks like an issue with type-conversion, we've hit incompatibilities between SQL200 and 2005 with bit/boolean several times before. So, how is this done correctly with SQL2000? (I've tried setting the Type to "int16" -> err. Also setting Defval="1" gave an err) ThanksMichael
Hi, I wanted to see what are all the users in a windows nt group that has a group access to sql server 2000. I have a windows 2000 group access to sqlserver 2000 as "xxxsomegroup". How can I list all users that belongs to this windows 200 group? is there any stored procedure to find out this? any information could be greatly appreciated.
I recently had to reinstall a new instance of SQLServer 2000, but was unable to use the previous server name. As a result, my Access2000 front end is not happy with it's linked tables. I can't seem to find anyplace within Access to universally change the address of the SQLServer used as the back-end for all linked tables.
When I do try to access the linked tables through Access, I get an error, and the option to change the server location. When I try to type-in the new SQLServer location, there is an attempt to reconnect to SQLServer, but a whole lot of errors are generated, and none of the data is transferred into the Access table.
I really don't want to have to re-do my Access front end, so it seems it would be easiest to somehow reinstall SQLServer to have the same server location it used to. Is there a good way to completely erase all traces of SQLServer so that I can have better luck reinstalling it to the same location it used to be in? Just using the uninstall program from SQLServer doesn't seem to be cutting it.
I've created a small company database where the tables reside in a SQLServer database. I'm using Access 2000 forms for a front end.I've got a System DSN set-up to SQL Server and am using links withinAccess 2000 to get to the SQL Server tables.My forms worked fine until I made a few minor changes to the databaseschema on SQL Server (e.g. added a foreign key, or added a column).After that, all the links break - I click on a table link and get anerror msg like "invalid object name."Deleting the links after a schema change and re-adding the links seemedto fix the problem. The forms I'd already created seemed to work fineafter re-creating the links.But then I got more advanced with my forms. I have it set up so thatfor certain entry fields, the combobox gets populated with values froma table (the description appears in the drop-down and the correspondingprimary key value gets populated in the table). I created a number offorms using this technique, entered data, and everything worked fine.Made a small schema change and it broke everything -- not the actualtable links, but the functionality for the drop-downs. My values nolonger appeared, and this was true for forms that accessed tables whoseschemas did not change.This is driving me nuts. Is there any way to keep my forms frombreaking each time I make a small schema change?Thanks.- Dana
Hello,I received the error message below when i'm trying to install SQLServer 2000 standard edition into a Windows 2000 Professionaleworkstation.Error :Microsoft SQL server 2000 Standard Edition server components is notsupported on this operating system. Only client components will beavailable for installation.Any request modification ?Best regards,Thanks
I've just started getting this EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) on machines using Windows 2000 sp4 connecting to SQLServer. This is crashing JVMs (multiple Sun versions and BEA also) in the Java VM frame (outside our code). This has just started recently - perhaps with the last set of patches? Has anyone else seen this or know what I could do to get more information? Could this be related to updates to named pipes?
We are using an Access 2000 project to view our SQL Tables and using Access 2000 Runtime to Access the forms in the project. We have written in a locking system in VB and removed the video controls to prevent users from accessing the same records. But of course now we need to make the video controls available. This has now thrown up the problem of multiple users accessing the same records. We have tried to write code to lock records when then video controls are used but this is not working as well as we hoped. Can anyone please suggest any way of setting up locking on SQL using triggers from the Access frontend? or any other types of locking systems that could be written in the Access front end.
