MSDE 2000 Installation Fails On Windows Vista 64-bit

May 30, 2006

Installation of MSDE 2000 fails on 64-bit Windows Vista (Build 5308).

The error message is "Setup failed to configure the server. Please refer the error logs for more information". No error log can be found on the machine at the time of installation. Please let me know if anyone else has encountered this problem?

Is it possible to install MSDE 2000 on 64-bit Windows Vista(Build 5308)?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
i tried to install SQL Server 2000 Developer and MSDE the whole day on my Windows XP SP2.
MDAC is the latest, that come with WinXP SP2 (2.81). The installation fails at the end after 100% complete.

then it takes some time and the failure appears, saying:
"the setup programm could not configure the server. you can find more
information in the server-failure-log files and in

I have gotten so far as to find an entry in my SQLSTP.TXT filethat says that c:mssql7 was detected so the install fails. Now, to start with there is no directory called C:mssql7 on thisserver. Installation Of SQL Server 2005 + RS Fails On A Vista 64 Bits

Feb 27, 2007

Hello,

I'm trying to install a version of SQL server 2005 with reporting services on a vista 64 bits.

I've a licence for SQL server 2005 standard edition in French, my vista is in French, and I'm using visual studio standard edition in English to develop. I would like to develop reports using SQL server to include these reports in my applications developped with Visual Studio.

Wich version of SQL server should I install ? I've tryed to install SQL server express 2005 with advanced feature SP2 (english version) and then later the standard edition (French version) (each time uninstalling all SQL server components between tries), but I got problems with reporting services each time.

I got first a warming saying than reporting services is 32 bits and IIS is 64 bits, I so allowed IIS to run 32 bits ASP .Net, but after that, I now get a problem of .Net registration in IIS as warming message on the line concerning Reporting services during the install of SQL Server, and it doesn't even offer to install RS on the next window.

I reinstalled the DotnetFX64 to be sure, but still get the same message. If I look in the IIS the application pools are looking me to be normal, with the ASPNET 32 bit code allowed.

SQL Express Installation Fails During Setup, Vista Permission Problem?

Feb 7, 2008

I'll install SQL Server Express SP2 on Vista during my Setup.
But the setup beaks with error 110.
In other articles it sounds like an folder access problem.
On a Custom Action Type 210 i start a application which execute the sqlexpress.exe.
I tried some other codes to impersonate or noImersonate but without success.

But i can not use the unpacked files because size is to large(170MB)

An good Idea would be unpack the setup files during setup to an custom folder with right permissions.
But I dont know how unpack files without GUI (SQLEXPRESS x always show the GUI).

Any Idea???????????

SQL Express Fails On Setup Support Files Installation On Vista

The funny thing here is that it works fine when the installer is run from a network share, ie \testserversetupsetup.exe but when the same folder is burned to a CD or copied to a local folder it fails. I have verified that the folders are identical.

I'm not sure what info is required to pinpoint the problem but here are some log files and a screen shot of the message.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

 IIS Feature Requirement (Warning)

Messages

IIS Feature Requirement

Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online.

I already configure IIS7 with all feature, but system still generate above mentioned message.

Installation Problem With SQL Server Express Reporting Services And Windows Vista

Apr 11, 2008

I have been through virtually every last posting on installing SQL Server Express with Advanced Services in this site and still have no success accessing the Reporting Services site: http://localhost.reports$sqlexpress. I get a the correct background to the site as in the tutorials, but only get "ERROR - unable to connect to the remote server", which may be indicative because this is all installed on my local machine (Dell AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000+ 2.11 Ghz, 1GB, Windows Ultimate). I have gone through How to install ... on a Windows Vista-based computer, KB934164, and most recently, How to configure .. to allow remote connections, kb 914277, in hopes of addressing the "remote server" issue. I still can't get past this obstacle. PLEASE HELP!! :-)

Vista Business ODBC/DSN To Remote Windows 2000 Server / SQL 2000

Oct 8, 2007

Hi,
Just upgraded some development desktops to Vista Business. However we need
to still connect to some older remote windows 2000/SQL 2000 servers.

Trying to setup an ODBC system DSN on our Vista Business local desktop we get the
following errors -

-START ERROR WINDOW-
Connection Failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 772
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen
(SECDoClientHandshake()0.
Connection failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 18
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]SSL Security Error
-END ERROR WINDOW-

Any help greatly appreciated as this is stopping us from making
database/table connections etc. We've checked the firewall setup and all is well there.

PS - we can still connect fine using XP or windows 2000 desktops and their
local DSNs.

MSDE And Windows 2000 Pro

Mar 11, 2004

Hello to everyone.
I'm looking for an help :(

I'ved installed MSDE on a Windows 2000 Pro with this option in Setup.ini :
INSTANCENAME=msde
SECURITYMODE=SQL
SAPWD=<mypassword>

All goes good, and at the end of install process, i restart pc.

When restarting, i logged in , and the icon of MSDE was in the System Tray.

Strange thing, is that the circle in the icon have no red square or green arrow inside, but is empty.

I open the window of MSDE and at Server and Service, was 2 empty fields.

I filled on SERVER with the IP address of my pc
Service Field, continue to be blank :(

When i try to start the MSDE, it tells to me that there's no selected service, so the MSDE can't start.

Have someone some ideas on how to solve this?
Thanks to everyone for help!

Installing And Running SQL Server 2000 On Windows Vista

Jan 17, 2008

Hey

Ive read on some pages that it is in fact possible to install and run SQL Server 2000 on Vista. In my university, SQL Server 2000 is still used to teach us about databases and how to administrate them. The computers run Windows 2000 Professional. I need to be able to use 2000 so I can not only have compatibility but also know the steps and all possible conditions and solutions to problems.
Would installing and running SQL Server 2000 on Vista be possible or am I better off using 2005? Is there much difference between these 2 versions?

SQL Server 2000 Installation Problems On Windows 2003 Ent X64 Cluster

Jun 26, 2006

I have a Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 edition cluster setup and functioning normally. Now, I am trying to get SQL Server 2000 installed as a failover cluster but am having some difficulty. When installing, I get the message '[sqsrvres] ODBC sqldriverconnect failed' in the event log. The message happens when the installer is trying to bring the SQL Server Service resource online.

I am able to ping the name of the instance successfully. I am able to manually start the 'MSSQL$InstanceName' service. I have turned off the firewall on both machines, but this did not help. I have the DTC Service setup as a resource in the same cluster group.

I also read http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;815431 which seemed promising, but did not reolve the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Express Installation Fails With Invalid Installation Package

May 3, 2006

I get an error when trying to install the SQL Native Client. It
says it cannot find the installation package and to use a valid copy of
'sqlncli.msi'. I've downloaded the Express setup twice and get
the same error from both of them.

I'm attempting this in a VMWare session setup for Windows 2K, Advanced
Server. I am trying to test my installation and setup
procedures. This is not a production setup, just install testing
and documentation. I have allocated only 272MB to the VMWare
session, which is why the system doesn't meet the recommended settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Below is the Summary.txt output file.

Package Execution Fails In Windows Service But Runs Fine As A Windows Application.

Jun 23, 2006

I am attempting to write a Windows service that watches a database for uploaded files to import. When a new file is found, the corresponding SSIS package is run from the file system with variables passed through. I started development as a Windows app and copied the functionality to a service.

The app runs fine. The service does not. I get a "Failure" each time a package is executed. Everything is identical behind the scenes with the obvious exceptions that OnStart and OnStop handlers are buttons in the app. I added a script task at the beginning of one of the SSIS packages to notify me that it is even running at all. It doesn't even hit that initial task.

Again, the app will run all packages just fine. The data is imported and the results return as "Success."

The following is the code executing the package. Any help is appreciated. I've been banging my head on this one for a few days now. (Is there a tag to format a code sample?)

Dim pkgLocation As String
Dim pkg As New Package
Dim app As New Application
Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult

pkgLocation = sPackageFolder & PackageName & ".dtsx"

pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, Nothing)

Dim vars As Variables = pkg.Variables

vars("ImportId").Value = ImportId
vars("ProductionServer").Value = ProductionServer
vars("ProductionDatabase").Value = ProductionDatabase
vars("SourceFileName").Value = FileName
vars("SourceFilePath").Value = FilePath

pkgResults = pkg.Execute()

WSS On MSDE For Vista Or Later

Sep 27, 2006

Hi,

I have come to know that the upcoming OS releases VISTA, and Longhorn are no more going to (Courtesy: Microsoft Directions) support the MSDE version of the SQL. So, all the applications that are to be ported on to VISTA and are dependent on MSDE engine would first have the MSDE content be shifted to other compatible databases such as SQL Express, SQL Server (2k, 2k5).

If this is true, i'm wondering how Microsoft WSS release is going to be positioned from the Vista onwards as the typical install of WSS installs MSDE instance on the machine and add the configuration content on MSDE. That said, do we have to manually move our configuration databases to other compatible ones and let go with the functionality or if Microsoft has any plans of releasing any such tool that does this process automatically.

I appreciate your answers.

Regards,

Sagar

Installing MSDE On VISTA

Dec 12, 2007

I am in the process of preforming backwards compatibility testing inside our software with our sql statements. In the past we have run into problems where we write our SQL code in 2005 and SQL 2k cannot handle that code. (ie: nested sub selects within the select statement) I want to maximize effiency and install MSDE 2k on my Vista test machine but i have heard rumors that this could be potentially bad. Also if anyone has done this can you explain how to set the instance name if you already have sql 2005 installed? I would assume this would be done in the setup.ini in the MSDE folder before launch. If this cannot be done i can certainly put a XP test machine online for me to dial into and install MSDE 2k as well but it would have an existing 2005 session on it and i would need to find out how to name the instance before msde installed.

Thanks in advance

Installation On Vista

Feb 26, 2007

Hi, I have a serious issue installing sql server express (advanced edition) on Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm doing the install with elevated priviledges but setup of the sql server always fails at the same point with the following error:

{Microsoft}{SQL Native Client}{SQL Server}Login failed for user 'sa'

I've tried many different combinations, including advanced installation options selecting sql server instance to run as local system or local server but nothing came out of that. I always select add current user to the sql server administrators group.
Any help on this issue is appreciated. Below follows the setup summary log:

SQL DB Access Fails On Vista When UAC On

Oct 9, 2007

We have an application (.Net 2.0) which installs SQL database.
It installs database sucessfully but when I try to connect the databse using other components of the application,
it fails to connect the database.

Everything works fine if I login as username:"Administrator". or UAC off.
I know in vista when UAC on memeber of admin is considered as standard user.

I got solution to add user in sysadmin role.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326612.aspx
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929907

It is per user settings. We want some integrated solution. So our customers wouldn't need to do per user settings.

This is urgent. please help...

Vista RTM And SQL 2005 Developer Installation

Nov 29, 2006

Hi,

Two questions:

1) How do I correctly install SQL 2005 Developer and the SP2 CTP on Vista?
2) Is there a way to slipstream SP2?

I've taken the following steps:

Built Vista Ultimate as a clean install.
Turned on features in Vista and installed all components of IIS.
Restarted system
Connected to a Network

Installed the SQL 2005 Developer CD 1 with two warnings on the System Configuration Check screen:

SQL Server Edition Operating System Compatibility
Edition Change Check

On the Components to install screen, I only have one option for installation:

Workstation components, Books Online and development tools.

Thanks in advance...
