MSDE Connection Problem (from Other Client, Win/sql Login Enabled)

Dec 1, 2003

I have Installed MSDE SP3a (sql2kdesksp3.exe) on a Windows 2003 Web Edition Server.

The security mode is win/sql. I can log in with both Win NT and SQL security localy, from both EM and MSDE manager.

(in the end of the installation, no dialog show, and the agent does not start automaticly, started on restart)

The MSDE is installed from cmd, with no SAPWD but SecurityMode=SQL.

But from another client on the network (same domain), I can´t connect. I get the "SQL Server Does Not Exist or Access Denied" Error Message

I have check the regestry for the tcpip port settings. And its not 0.

I have read some other MSDE related threads, but no luck.

Any hints what to check new, to try to solve this problem ?

peace.

How Can I Tell What Protocols Are Enabled For The Client?

Jun 21, 2004

If TCP/IP is the only protocol enabled on the General tab of the Client Network Utility, does it mean that other protocols are disabled and will not be used in communicating to SQL Servers on other machines?

In this case, should the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLServer ClientSuperSocketNetLib only contain the Tcp entry?

If I have alias setup to use other protocol such as Named Pipes, does it mean that the alias cannot be connected since Named Pipes is not enabled?

Thank you for any help.

Client Utilities For MSDE

Mar 23, 2005

Hi,

I heard from a guy that the client utilities (Enterprice Manager and Query Analyser) that are on the Sql Server 2000 CD can be fetched separatly from Microsoft and that they can be deployed with MSDE to a potential customer.

Is that correct?

And if it is, where can I obtain those client apps?

TIA

SQL NATIVE CLIENT - OLE DB Connection On 64 Bit Client

Apr 23, 2008

I have tried this on several different operating systems (VISTA and XP ) and several versions of SQL NATIVE CLIENT including 2005.90.3042.0

I have a 64 bit "SQL NATIVE CLIENT" connection that fails. The exact same connection and code succeeds on 32 bit.
My customer and I prepend "oledb:" to the connection string and it starts working.

FAILS on 64 bit:
Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=Wrigley_Test;Data Source=MONGO;Use Procedure for Prepare=1;Auto Translate=True;Packet Size=4096;Workstation ID=RIPTIDE;Use Encryption for Data=False;Tag with column collation when possible=False;MARS Connection=False;DataTypeCompatibility=0;Trust Server Certificate=False

WORKS
oledb:Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=Wrigley_Test;Data Source=MONGO;Use Procedure for Prepare=1;Auto Translate=True;Packet Size=4096;Workstation ID=RIPTIDE;Use Encryption for Data=False;Tag with column collation when possible=False;MARS Connection=False;DataTypeCompatibility=0;Trust Server Certificate=False

I debugged my code to the point that I know it is happening when I call CreateAccessor for my SQL statement.

m_hr=m_pIAccessor->CreateAccessor(DBACCESSOR_ROWDATA, GetCols(), (m_pDBBinds+IsBookmarked()), 0, &m_hAccessor, NULL);

Error:

Microsoft SQL Native Client: Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

MSDE And Client Tools From SQLServer Eval

Nov 19, 2003

Ok, a while back, probably a year or so I started moving to MSDE. At the time a read posts on the Web that said you could use the client tools from the SQL Server Eval to manage MSDE. Great! I thought.

But more recently I get the impression that using those tools in not allowed. Can someone give me a diffinative answer.

I really want to stick with MSDE and am having a hard time convincing the boss to shell out $9,000+ for SQL Server on my dual processor web server. But I need DTS, Job Scheduling, etc...

Now my boss has wind of MySQL and knows that it's CHEAP.

If I can legally use the client tools with MSDE than I'm fine, if not I dread going to MySQL.

Your Advice is appreciated.

SQL Native Client And MSDE 2000 Release A(OLE DB)

Apr 12, 2007

Hi~.

Now, SQL Server 2005 Express and client application using SQL Native Client is running in my system.

When connect, I use following statement.

hr = CoCreateInstance(CLSID_SQLNCLI, NULL, CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER, IID_IDBInitialize, (void**)&m_pIDBInitialize);

Question is, if I need to connect to MSDE 2000(Release A) database, can I use SQL Native Client in client application?

After some tests, it seem to be ok in local configuration. But, has problems to connect to remote database server.

MSDE Login

Jun 5, 2004

Hi All,

I've been using NT authentication to access my MSDE without any problem, but when I try to login using an account with SQL Server username and password it returns

"Login failed for user 'testuser'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server Connection."

I tried with Visual Studio, Query Analyzer and ODBC, they all return the same error.

Is this a limitation of MSDE or are there configurations that I'm not aware of?

Thanks!

Can Not Remote Login To MSDE

Nov 24, 2003

I installed MSDE at my server at home, and that works fine.
On the server I can access my MSDE perfectly.
But, from a remote computer it seems impossible to connect.

Some (maybe) important information:

To create a user at my msde I used:

sp_addlogin (@ the MASTER DB)
sp_adduser (@ My DB)
sp_addrolemember (@ My DB)

Then I runned SVRNETCN.exe and enabled TCP/IP.

btw: I don't have a firewall running and both computers are on the same local network.

But only the first time. After that login by SQL user and password is denied after restart local MSDE machine.

Anyone know why?

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: How To Create Login For Client App

Jan 30, 2015

I have a client application written from C#/winforms app that needs access SQL DB on SQL server 2008 R2 developer. So I need to create a Login for this app with a user/password. But when i created it and put it on the client's connection string, the DB could not be accessed by the client windows forms app and the error was "Login failed for User App1".

Then I tried to login to SQL server from SSMS using the credentials of App1 but it also gave same error "Login failed for user App1". I have following the following steps of creation of the login for App1. i could login from "sa" account and other Admin accounts but not from "App1" account

1. created a server level Login
2. created a DB level user
3. created a Role (a DB role), i even tried creating an App Role
4. given permission to execute stored procedures that handle login

But didn't work. Maybe i made some mistakes in those step. So, how to create an account for user "App1" so it can be accessed by the client windows app and also from SSMS? i would prefer to use account creation from SSMS GUI.

How do i install SQL server 2008R2 in local machine with network accessibility features?

SQL Server Express Client App Login / Password

Dec 18, 2006

Help!!

I used to have an Access database which had tables for users, roles, actions etc.

This was used by a C++ client app (using ADO) which logged in, got the user ID and password (by raising a login dialog ) and then checked these against a user table and then assigned the roles and possible actions.

Now we have SWL Server Express 2005 - NT Authorisation - how do I get/pass the user ID to the C++ Application so it can get the associated roles? Seems silly to have 2 logins.

Better still can I do away with the App's User table or make its password column invisible to all users bar Admin and the C++ App?

How To Fix ASPNET Login Failed Problem With MSDE

I've searched all over the web trying to find a goddamn fix for this problem and no one has it right or they have the commands misspelled (!!!), so in spite of all those idiots, in spite of the makers of the Web Matrix guided tour for not pointing out this problem, and in spite of Microsoft who has not posted a solution themselves, here it goes:

* !! Change MYCOMPUTER below to the appropriate name of your computer !!
* Open a command prompt
* Type: C:
* Type: cd "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server80ToolsBinn" (or the exact location of the file "osql.exe" if different)
* Copy/paste the following commands

osql -E -S localhost -Q "sp_grantlogin 'MYCOMPUTERASPNET'"
osql -E -S localhost -d Orders -Q "sp_grantdbaccess 'MYCOMPUTERASPNET'"
osql -E -S localhost -d Orders -Q "sp_addrolemember 'db_owner', 'MYCOMPUTERASPNET'"

Login Failed For User 'domainuser' Using .NET SQL Native Client

Mar 18, 2008

On computer 1, I am programming a C# utility to connect to a SQL 2005 SP2 Database. Here is the connection string.

Server=serverName;Database=database;User Id=DOMAIN/DomainAccount;Password=password;

I am using Visual Studio 2005 with .NET 2.0.

I have logged into Computer 1 with a different account. When I run the utility, I get a login failed exception. Here is the error I get from SQL 2005.

Login failed for user 'DOMAIN/DomainAccount'. [CLIENT: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx].
Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 6.

xxx are filled with the valid IP address of the computer I am running the utility from.

When I log into the computer 2 with the same domain account, it runs with success.

Login succeeded for user 'DOMAIN/DomainAccount'. Connection: trusted. [CLIENT: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]

When I put Trusted_Connection=True; in the connection string, it connects as me and not the domain user I want to connect to.

When I put Integrated Security=SSPI; in the connection string, it does the same thing.

Login Failed For Trusted Connection Login Failed For User 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'

Mar 13, 2007

We have a SQL 2000 Active/Passive cluster running on Windows 2000. On one node, everything logs in fine (second node is powered off). I can use local authentication fine in OSQL (-E) and even see my connection in SQLEM current activity as [DomainUser] for the NT account which I am logged in as. Then I bring the second node online and initiate a failover. SQL Server starts but Cluster Admin cannot connect and starts throwing this Anonymous Logon error. I open a command prompt and try the same OSQL (-E) local login and sure enough it is also giving the Anonymous Logon connection user. I do not understand why the failover to a second node is causing the Trusted Connection Local authentication to switch to Anonymous instead of the [DomainUser] which I am using. Any help is appreciated. John.

It has three tabs:

Name: Local Server Connection
Server: prod
Authentication: SQL Server Authentication

I clicked the Edit and it shows the Connection Properties:

It says: Enter information to logon to the server. "Use a specific Username and Password" is checked. Username is set as "sa" while the password is empty. I typed in the correct password and pressed Ok. When I go back again, the password still shows empty. I tried to run the plan and it again fails. Do you know why it is not showing the password as blank even if I try to save the password.

SQL Client Connection In AD Domain

Oct 31, 2007

Hi folks,

I have installed SQL Server 2005 on my Domain Controller successfully
and installed the SQL Server tools from the DVD including workstation components on my XP client computer (which is actually hosting the Domain controller as virtual VMWare machine).
The authentication is set to mixed mode and I have created a login with all possible rights on SQL Server, but which is at the same time my Domain Admin (So the user is setup in SQL Server in the format Domainuser)

Now when I open any client program (SQL Srvr2005 Management console, or Toad for SQLSrvr) and try to connect, the client does find the server correctly, but I cannot login.
The error status is actually 1, which means "unexpected internal error" as far as I have read.
I have turned off Windows firwalls by default and also turned off my custom firewall to see if it makes a difference, but it doesn't.

My activated connection protocol on both the server and the client is TCP/IP and I have then changed the port on both the server and the client to a common 4665, which I then granted full passage through my firewall.
Now the error has changed and says "the target machine has actively refused the connection", with status code 0... ???

So that's my current situation... Please, can anyone help me? What am I doing wrong?

Any tips would be appreciated,
-Patrick-
