MSDE And Enterprise Manager

Dec 22, 2004

I have just installed (new clean install) of MSDE 3a. On another machine I have enterprise manager, and I thought I would be able to access it, but when I try to register it in EM it gives me the following error: SERVERNAME - SQL Server does not exist or access denied, Connection Open(Connect(). I have done this in the past with no problem. Did I forget a parameter on the install of 3a to allow other machines to access or do I have some other security issue?

MSDE And Enterprise Manager?

Dec 19, 2005

I am a complete sql newbie! For the life of me I can't figure out how to get Enterprise Manager to connect with MSDE. Something about mixed mode or tcp/ip settings? But no one's ever really clear on how to do these things. I've uninstalled MSDE until I can get more info.
I just need a quick walk-through on how to install msde to work with EM. This is what I used when MSDE requested a strong password:
setup INSTANCENAME="InstanceName" SECURITYMODE=SQL SAPWD="AStrongSAPwd"
Is this correct? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Can I Access MSDE On A Remote Machine With Enterprise Manager?

Sep 22, 2007

We just installed an application, WhatsUpGold, to monitor our servers. Management won't let me host that on my primary SQL box. So, we are using MSDE on the local machine (call that box my_netmon).

I can access the db with very basic functionality using osql while on the my_netmon machine. I've added my domain user account as a System Admin using the following commands.

exec sp_grantlogin @name
go

exec sp_addsrvrolemember @name, 'sysadmin'

But when I go to the my_sql machine and try to attach to it with Enterprise Manager I get an error that the server does not exist.

What gives??? Is it just not possible, or am I missing something here?

My goal is to just be able to see the data stored in the MSDE db. Write views, etc...

Please advise,

Marc

Side-by-side Upgrade Ruined Enterprise Manager

Dec 11, 2007

Hi people

Here is my case: I've a server running Windows server 2003 edition and SQL2000.
I've installed SQL2005 using the side-by-side method as described by MSFT docs. I've then copied the mdf & ldf files to new locations and attached the db in SQL 2005 management studio. Every thing fine. Next, I've migrated the DTSs using the DTS migration wizard. After this step I have some bad warnings in windows:

When I restart the server I get the following message: "mmc.exe Microsoft Management Console encountered a problem and needed to close".
Furthermore: I can't start the old SQL enterprise manager.
It shows another error "mmc.exe - Entry point Not Found" and closes it self.

The MSFT support page on this error relates it to Windows XP but my system is running Windows server....

Any one has any idea why this is happening?
Any suggested course of action?

Many thanks

Problems Running Enterprise Manager And Service Manager

Jul 20, 2005

On one of our machines, all of the SQL Server 2000components except for the main Server component (SQL Servercore) itself were installed (Management tools, etc) a while agoand everything was running fine. Now I go and add/install theServer component and then Service Pack 3a.It seems that Service Manager won't start up (I get an hourglass cursor)and now I find that Enterprise Manager won't run as well. No errormessages appeared and I don't think I saw anything unusual inthe log file. However, I can use Enterprise Manager on a differentmachine and connect to the database (so the databaseitself seems to be running).Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how tofix it? I like to see if I can repair this without havingto do a reinstall.Thanks.PF

Upgrade From 32-bit Eval To 64-bit Enterprise?

Jun 21, 2006

I have a 32-bit evaluation edition installed on my 64-bit server. I have purchased a license for 64-bit enterprise edition. Can I upgrade from the 32-bit eval edition to the 64-bit enterprise edition? If I can - should I? Is the better approach to install a new named instance of the 64-bit enterprise edition - the 32-bit eval edition is an unnamed instance. All guidance is appreciated.

Thanks.

Upgrade Of MSDE Fails

Aug 17, 2007

I am trying to upgrade a default instance of MSDE to Sql Express SP2 using command line parameters. The upgrade keeps failing with the message that another instance of SQL Server exists with that name. I am using the following parameters to indicate the upgrade:

UPGRADE=SQL_ENGINE
INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER

It appears to be doing an install rather than an Upgrade. Anybody have any ideas why it is not executing the UPGRADE parameter?

Cannot Upgrade MSDE 2000 Sp3 To SP4

Feb 5, 2007

Hi!

Here's the scenario:

I have a MSDE 2000 installation running, already patched to SP3. Instancename is "STO". I've downloaded SQL2000.MSDE-KB884525-SP4-X86-ENU.exe and extracted the archive to C:SQL2KSP4.

After starting setup from the command prompt with "setup /upgradesp sqlrun DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0 /L*V C:MSDELog.log" i get a message box, telling me "The product is not installed". This happens even if I specify the exact instancename and supply the sa user and pwd!

Any ideas?`

Thanks in advance and regards

SQL 2005 Standard To Enterprise Upgrade

Dec 2, 2006

As I found on http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx its only possible on 32 Bit subsystems and not on native 64 bit - is this true?

In addition is it a complete installations which remains the current configuration? (i guess this because we have to apply all service packs again)?

and at least - is a license upgarde possible or do we have to buy a complete new licence?

SQL Server Enterprise Edition Upgrade

Jan 24, 2007

Hi,

Can someone please help me? I recently upgraded from SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Evaluation Version (x64) to SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Version (x64). While the components: Database Engine, Analysis Services, Workstation Components have been upgraded. I can still see that Reporting Services is still in the Evaluation Version. Integration Services is no where to be found.

Regardless, I wanted to add Integration Services but on the System Configuration Check, I am getting the following error: Edition Change Check: To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPgrade=1 parameter. So regardless of this message, I clicked Next, selected Integration Services and then it tells me that it has already been installed.

Anyway, I exit out of set-up. Try to create a new Integration Services project and I get the following error.

Unable to cast COM object of type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.PackageNeutralClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.SQLServer.DTS.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSContainer90'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '8BDFE892-E9D8-4D23-9739-DA807BCDC2AC}' failed due to the following error: Library not registered. MSDE SP3a Upgrade Problem

Jun 14, 2004

I just upgraded my desktop engine MSDE 1.0 to MSDE 2000 SP3a. Everything seemed to go well, MSSQLSERVER AND SQLSERVER Agent Services are running, problem is, I can no longer see the particular instance on the network from Enterprise Manager.

The installation instructions specified that if the Instance was to accept connections from applications on other computers not to specify the DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS parameter, so I didn't.

I'm a little green with this, can anyone suggest a place to start troubleshooting?

SQL 7 Enterprise Manager

Jul 28, 2000

I am considering upsizing my Access 2000 DB to a SQL 7 server. I was told that having SQL 7 Enterprise Manager is highly prefferd but not essential as I can maintain the upsized DB with Access 2000. The only way that I have been able to find JUST enterprise manager seems to be with purchasing the whole SQL 7 program for $1300! Microsoft cannot be that cruel, that you have to buy the whole program just for Enterprise Manager!

My questions are:

Can I download just MS SQL 7 Enterprise Manager anywhere for a reasonable fee or free?

and

if not, can I continue to use Access 2000 to maintain the SQL 7 upsized DB?
