Exporting Dates To Excel As Date Format

Jan 12, 2007

Hi,

I'm currently having problems exporting formatted dates from reporting services 2005 to excel.

Basically what I require is a way to format a date in reporting services so that it only shows the date without the time (preferably british format) and when it is exported to excel it is still formatted as a date.

This is so the user can sort the data file via date, I appreciate it is easy to select the column and format the cells but i would prefer to have a 'cleaner' solution to this problem which avoids the need for users to be formatting exported reports.

Originally I was formatting the dates as convert(varchar,@date,103) in the SP which converts it to a character string and excel picks this up as a character as would be expected. So I changed this to a date and set about trying to format the date in Reporting Services, so far i've been unsuccesfull using cdate (brings back the time) and format as it again converts it to a character string.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,

R

Problem Exporting Data Using Excel Destination (wrong Format)

Sep 21, 2006

Hi there,

I have designed a package that works perfectly well, exporting data to an excel file from an ole db source. The problem is that in the excel destination file, columns of data that originally were numbers, are formatted as text. It would be just annoying if it weren't because I use those figures in a pivot table that operates with them.

Any idea on how to tell Excel that those columns are numbers?

Thx in advance

Assistance With Finding Issues Involved In SQL2005 Reporting Services Reports And Exporting Them To Excel

Oct 4, 2007

Hello,
We are running SQL2005, SP2.
We are having problems with the time it takes to export reports to Excel.
I am attempting to research the subject and find ways of solving the problem either by modifying the reports or make changes in the way we deliver them.

Either way my attempts at researching this at Microsoft.com and here at the forums have proven to be failures. There are many threads on the subject but with the time it takes to scroll through them all I have yet to find any that seem to relate to the specific issues we are having.

We have a report which is approximately 38 pages, sometimes less, sometimes more, in length. When attempting to export to Excel the process seems to take forever or time out. We can still close out the export attempt and return to the report, but the process of exporting to Excell seems to take forever.

Could anyone here provide me with links to pages either here at Microsoft.com, in the forums, or elsewhere where the factors involved in the exporting to Excell feature are addressed so that I can try to accomodate them as best as possible?

Thanks in advance.
I will continue to try and track down the information on my own but any assistance is appreciated.

Reporting Services :: SSRS 2012 Background Color Format By Expression When Exporting To Excel

Mar 28, 2013

We are using SSRS 2012. We have a report that conditionally formats a background color for some cells. The report renders properly in a browser and in Excel 2003 format. In Excel format all cells after the first one that meets the condition are highlighted, even if only one cell should.

The sample expression that triggers this condition looks like this:
=IIF(Fields!VIOL_NOTE.Value="Internal","Green","No Color")

All cells after the first one that meets the condition Fields!VIOL_NOTE.Value="Internal" have a green background.

When the same subreport is exported to excel then the following error message is displayed

Error When Exporting To Excel Using SSRS 2003

Dec 22, 2006

Hi,

I have encountered an error when attempt to open a report which is exported to Excel using SSRS2003. It looks like this:

Microsoft Office Excel File Repair Log

Errors were detected in file 'C:Documents and SettingsTocsonEIMy DocumentsRigidReports
ptRigidTransactionSummaryReport3.xls'
The following is a list of repairs:

Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible. Excel attempted to recover your formulas and values, but some data may have been lost or corrupted.

At first I thought it was because of the sheer bulk of the report since when I break down a month's report to every 5 days, it would export without error. So I thought that if I can break a whole report into several worksheets using page break, it might work. Unfortunately, although I did succeed in exporting the whole report into several worksheets, I still encounter the same error. Now I have no idea on what the root of the error is. Note that the same report can be exported in other formats and can be opened without error. Except for a case when I tried opening the same report exported in XML using Excel, an error which might be related to the error above occurs which says that there's an invalid unicode character in the xml file.

Any help in determining the root of the problem and a solution to it?

Error Exporting To Excel With Expression In Footer

Mar 26, 2007

I can export to all other formats from the report viewer with no issues, but when I try to render to Excel, I get an exception:

[Exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]

[Exception: An error occurred during rendering of the report.]

[Exception: An error occurred during rendering of the report.]
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.ServerUrlRequest(Boolean isAbortable, String url, Stream outputStream, String& mimeType, String& fileNameExtension) +553
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.InternalRender(Boolean isAbortable, String format, String deviceInfo, NameValueCollection urlAccessParameters, Stream reportStream, String& mimeType, String& fileNameExtension) +941
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.Render(String format, String deviceInfo, NameValueCollection urlAccessParameters, String& mimeType, String& fileNameExtension) +97
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReportControlSource.RenderReport(String format, String deviceInfo, NameValueCollection additionalParams, String& mimeType, String& fileExtension) +126
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ExportOperation.PerformOperation(NameValueCollection urlQuery, HttpResponse response) +153
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) +202
System.Web.CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +154
System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +64

I've pinned it down to a footer cell that uses an expression to determine the TextAlign property. If I do something as simple as ="Right", I get the error. Of course, if I just use Right, there is no problem. So are expressions not supported in footer cell properties or is there possibly some fix for this?

Thanks.

The report is no different than any othere report. This report uses rectagles and text boxes to control layout with two tables but it's pretty straight forward. This only happens for this particular report when exported only to Excel. I am using SQL2005 SP1.

Can you tell me if there is a patch for SSRS that is going to address this or if there is a work around that I can put in my report to handle it?

The customer is quite upset at the work around so I'd love to find a solution soon.

Reports Exported As Excel Cannot Be Read By Mac Version Of Excel

Jan 31, 2007

I searched the list but did not see anything related.

I cannot open a file directly exported from RS in the Excel format. If I open the file in the Windows version and then close it, no need to even save it, I can then open it with the Mac version of Excel. The file size after closing is about 2K less so the RS program is adding something onto the file that the Mac version does not like. It will crash Excel when trying to open.

I cannot export the report as CSV as it will not correctly import into Excel on the Mac.

Is there a work around for this?

Thanks.

Exporting Reports Creates A Blank Window

Nov 15, 2006

I have created a few reports and linked them to a URL on a web page. (sample link is : http://servername/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?%2fMy_Reports%2fBacklog+Report&rs:Command=Render )

When the user clicks on the link above it renders correctly but when the user tries to export the report to any format on the list, it launches another window with the following URL : http://servername/ReportServer/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?ExecutionID=czq4c355dmsxdy55dif1nm55&ControlID=ad74d68e-2a9c-430f-8655-dd0e6c46f831&Culture=1033&UICulture=9&ReportStack=1&OpType=Export&FileName=Backlog+Report&ContentDisposition=OnlyHtmlInline&Format=EXCEL

which then prompts the user to Open or Save the report.

How do I stop this window from opening ? or how can I make it close automatically ?

Please advise.

I know if I can change the ContentDisposition somehow to AlwaysInline then this extra window will not show during the export but it keeps defaulting to OnlyHTMLInline for ContentDisposition.

Thanks in advance.

Reporting Services :: Exporting SSRS Reports To PDF

Jun 2, 2015

I have generated an invoice report is SSRS. It works correctly via Report Builder and the viewer. However if I then export the report to PDF, it throws the formatting of the report off.

As I have mentioned, it is an invoice report. If I print 1 invoice, and export it, everything exports correctly and all formatting is retained. However if i print off and export multiple invoices (range of Invoice 1 to 4), the 1st invoice is exported correctly, but all subsequent ones are not. In so far that where 1 invoice should be printed on 2 pages of A4 paper, it is spread over 7 pages.

The header is one page, then 1 row is on the second page, then a blank page, then another set of data on another page etc. Is it a problem with the page/report sizing/margins?

Exporting Data Into .CSV Format

Jan 17, 2008

Hi
I am trying to export data from SQL which is ok and I can do that part.  However from the result of the query I need to add the values of certain columns.  Because I'm a newbie to SQL I'll explain and try and show images as best as I can as we go....
So far I have written a query
select Stockitem.code, Warehouseitem.ConfirmedQtyInStock, Warehouseitem.UnConfirmedQtyInStock, Warehouseitem.QuantityAllocatedStock, Warehouseitem.QuantityAllocatedBOM, Warehouseitem.QuantityAllocatedSOP, WarehouseItem.WarehouseIDfrom WarehouseItem INNER JOIN StockItem ONWarehouseItem.ItemID = Stockitem.itemidINNER JOIN BinItem ONBinitem.itemid = stockitem.itemidwhere WarehouseItem.WarehouseID = '3403' AND BinItem.BinName LIKE 'S%' AND BinItem.BinName <> 'S' OR BinItem.BinName LIKE 'T%' AND BinItem.BinName <> 'T'order by stockitem.code
 This returns the following results....
Code             ConfirmedQtyInStock      UnConfirmedQtyInStock      QuantityAllocatedStock        QuantityAllocatedBOM      QuantityAllocatedSOP       WarehouseID
12345             96.00000                        .00000                              .00000                                 3.00000                            13.00000                           3403
Now I am trying to find out the amount of freestock available for everything with the WarehouseID 3403.  Therefore in the example above to be able to workout how many '12345' (Code) we have in stock, the equation used to find out the free stock available is as follows....
 Free Stock = (ConfirmedQtyInStock + UnConfirmedQtyInStock) – (QuantityAllocatedStock+ QuantityAllocatedBOM + QuantityAllocatedSOP)
Therefore if I manually use the equation above the amount of freestock available =
 Free Stock = (96+0) - (0+3+13) = 80 (free stock).
Then once I have the equation to be able to output the 'freestock' quantity, I need to export the results into an excel spreadsheet with the following layout...
 ColumnA
Code,FreeStock
12345,80
Hope I've explained this in a good manner, any help would be gratefully received.
