MSSQL Database Files: Is Licensing Required?
Nov 14, 2007
Hello
I'm developing a simple visual basic.net application and I have a licensing question about database files.
If I were to use a MSSQL database file as a data source (just like you would use a MS Access database file) no server.
Would I have to pay any sort of licensing, and if so what would that be?

Hello guys,
Here is the case. I have up and running database on MSSQL server. My client deliver me updates. Since now they were as INSERT statements, but they decided to change some stuff at their side. Now the updates will come as pairs of files (.dbf and .mdx) for each table...
How I can insert them in the running database?

Hello All,
We have a licensed version of VS2005 and we are developing commercial C#.net mobile applications targeted for Pocket PC 2003, Windows CE etc.
We are currently making use of System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll and are using the Sql Server CE for storing and retrieving information required for the application. We use this information and send it to our hosted web server for processing.
We use NSIS installer to develop the installer for mobile application. Can we make use of the Sql Server CE CAB files (sqlce30.dev.ENU.ppc.wce4.armv4.CAB) to install or should we only use the Sql Server CE dlls that are mentioned in the REDIST.txt?
We would like to know if we would be in agreement with the EULA if we make use of the CAB files for installation instead of the direct dlls.
Best Regards,
Manasvini

We use a program that creates a access database for each of our payperiods. Its a pain to get a full history of a person from each one. I want to setup a way I can combine all of the access files into one table in mssql. I have a DTS I created into a .bas file. My plan is to make the vb.net code get a directory of the files, then run a function (the .bas file) on each directory appending the access table to the mssql table. The struckture of the access files are that each file is in its own directory, like below:
\servernameTAcompany 7-25-04Trans.mdb
\servernameTAcompany 8-08-04Trans.mdb
\servernameTAcompany 8-22-04Trans.mdb
The table is called "Transactions" and they are the same in each mdb file in terms of fields. Every two weeks there is a new directory that is added to the company directory. So I can either dump all and append all, or only append new data and only use the dump/append when there is a problem.
I am just not sure how to do that. Any ideas?

I'm building a system when one can upload a document to the website.I will be storing the document on the hard-drive for quick/easy access, but I was also thinking of storing it in an existing database since mostof the sites information is all stored there. As well there would be only one place to worry about backing up. And ifthe file on the hard-drive was ever missing or became corrupted, I couldrestore it form tha database. Is this feasable? Has anyone ever done this?--* Don VaillancourtDirector of Software Development**WEB IMPACT INC.*phone: 416-815-2000 ext. 245fax: 416-815-2001email: Join Bytes! <mailto:donv@webimpact.com>web: http://www.web-impact.com/ This email message is intended only for the addressee(s)and contains information that may be confidential and/orcopyright. Hi,
I have a Database.sql script file that creates my application database (Malibu). My question is how do I get around the problem of the hard coded FILENAME as shown below...
CREATE DATABASE [Malibu] ON (NAME = N'Malibu_Data', FILENAME = N'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLDataMalibu_Data.MDF' , SIZE = 4, FILEGROWTH = 10%) LOG ON (NAME = N'Malibu_Log', FILENAME = N'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLDataMalibu_Log.LDF' , SIZE = 1, FILEGROWTH = 10%)
If this path does not exist on the clients PC - the script will fail.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,I wonder if anyone can help with the following on a fee paying basisfor the the design or development of some type of script or utility orpiece of code to do the following work.I wish to retrieve some data from an online database that is in thepublic domain. The online database has a search facility that matchesthe entry (name) in a search box then returns a screen stating that amatch has been found or not found. If a match is found there is a button to click that proceeds to thescreen containing the data which is simply two names. It is these twonames that I wish to retrieve and store them in something like a textfile where they are associated with the original entry (name) used inthe search box.I have a list of the entries for the search box that can be suppliedin sample format for testing as a columnar text file or commadelimited file or a spreadsheet.. I would need the procedure toprocess the list of search entries, retrieve the data then move on tothe next one in the list. Obviously, if a match was not found then theprocess would need to move on the the next entry in the list withperhaps a message saying "No Match" until the entire list wasprocessed. The PC I hope to run the process on is a Windows XP machine and if Ineed to purchase any particular software that is necessary for the jobthen I am quite willing to do so. Also, as I pointed out above I wouldpay for the work to be done.I hope that I have explained the above OK and that I have posted it tothe correct newsgroup(s). If it is not in the correct newsgroup Iwould be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction.RegardsDave Gibson

I'm upgrading to SQL 2012 from 2008R2, while doing so i will be rebuilding all the indexes on all the database. In my previous environment while doing so, i got space related error in primary filegroup for insufficient space in the primary filegroup. Is there any rule of thumb about how much space is required by index rebuild command for each database, or is there a safe threshold for free space in the database?

,I am creating a database where each record is required to have a twin record in the database. These is a type a value and a type b value and both must be present for the record to be valid.
Customer_ID, Order_Type, Product_Code
54, a, 00345
54, b, 00356
Is this something that would have to be done programmatically, or is it possible to create a constraint of some sort to ensure this?

I am new to ms SQL. I only have the use of the Enterprise Manager.
Creating tables I understand. However I am confused on how to add data to
a table or view the data in a table. Can this be done through Enterprise Manager? If I am adding a large amount of data do I have to use the query window. This seems like a tedious method. In Access yo have a form basically pop up where you can type in the record sets. Any advice would be appreciated! Sincerely,

Hello:
I am supporting a mssql 6.5, sp 4 application.
We have set up an user acceptance server with a database that is the same as production. However, I have been told that this database and server may be used for applying fixes rather than user acceptance.
To avoid confusion over which database is on which server, it might be a good idea to rename the database. I am not sure if this can be done un der mssql 6.5?
1)Can I rename a database?
2)If so, how can I do so?
Which system tables would I use to update?
Any information you can furnish will be appreciated. THanks.
