Desperate! - Need Simple MSSQL Server Monitoring Scripts, Ideas, Etc That Can Be Performed By Operator Types (non-programmers)
Jul 20, 2005Does anyone have any basic, simple scripts of sp's that I can give mycomputer operators to use to monitor for serious conditions on our sqlservers? We are new in the ms-sql arena, a small shop and we cantreally purchase any tools to monitor these servers, but we need somebasic checks that we can use to make sure a server is performing in areasonable fashion, no blocks, cpu<xx%, memory not pegged, IO working,etc...and we need to be able to do this without bugging ourprogrammers every time we are wondering why things are slowwnig down.We are a split shop between as400s and sql servers, and our operationsstaff has no problem performing this type of duty on the 400s. I thinksince the sql servers are so easy to deploy into production, the ideaof how to monitor these things health got lost in the shuffle andallowing the programmers to do it just serves to destabilize ourenvironment.Please help! Our shop has turned to chaos since we went live withMSSQL centric applications and everytime one programmer "resolves anissue" some other programmers application starts to act up.

May 18, 2004I am getting a error message saying: Invalid operator for data type. Operator equals boolean AND, type equals datetime.
I traced the pointer to @gdo and @gd, they are both dates!
INSERT INTO AdminAlerts values (CURRENT_USER, 'UPDATE', getDate(), @biui, 'Updated booking, ID of booking updated: ' & @biui & ', Booking date and time before/after update: ' & @gdo & '/' & @gd & ', Room number before/after update: ' & @rno & '/' & @rn & ' and Customer ID before/after update: ' & @cio & '/' & @ci)
If I cut that two dates out it works fine.
Could someone tell me the syntax to include a date in a string :confused:

I am a bit new to the MSSQL server. In our application, we use so many SQL queries. To imporve the performance, we used the Database enigine Tuning tool to create the indexes. The older version of the application supports MSSQL 2000 also. To re-create these new indexes, I have an issue in running these "CREATE INDEX" commands as the statements generated for index creation are done in MSSQL 2005. The statements include "INCLUDES" keyword which is supported in MSSQL 2005 but not in MSSQL 2000.
Ex:-
CREATE INDEX IND_001_PPM_PA ON PPM_PROCESS_ACTIVITY
(ACTIVITY_NAME ASC, PROCESS_NAME ASC, START_TIME ASC, ISMONITORED ASC)
INCLUDE
(INSTANCE_ID, ACTIVITY_TYPE, STATUS, END_TIME, ORGANIZATION);
Any help in creating such indexes in 2000 version is welcome.

We taken the script spcificall for 2000 and run it in SQL 200. But we are getting the error in SCRIPT?

cient software.
However, I would like to install mssql 7.0 server on my nt workstation
and work with it to become familiar with 7.0. Can I install mssql 7.0
server on my nt workstation? Can mssql 6.5 client coexist with mssql 7.0
on the same machine if they are in different directories?

Migration MSSQL 2000 32-bit To MSSQL 2005 64-bit
Nov 17, 2007I've been tasked to move our production databases on MSSQL 2000 to 2005. I've supported MSSQL since version 6.5 and performed migrations to successor versions.
Current Environment is MSSQL 2000 32-bit with current Service Packs.
I've performed mock migrations on Test servers upgrading all Production instances simultaneously from MSSQL 2000 to 2005 32-bit. The Test environment is identical to Production minus server name, IP etc. Also I have a separate server with MSSQL 2005 installed where I use the DETACH / ATTACH and BACKUP / RESTORE method for migration / acceptance testing. There are approximately 30 databases totaling 70 GB. This has gone as expected and fairly successful. Vendors have been coordinated with to update code and staff for acceptance testing.
I'd prefer going directly to MSSQL 2005 64-bit instead if possible due to memory benefits etc. This is where I'd like some feedback prior to borrowing a 64-bit server for testing.
Upgrade options:
1. Is it better to migrate from MSSQL 2000 32-bit to 2005 64-bit via:
a. DETACH / ATTACH
b. BACKUP / RESTORE
c. Is one method more advantageous relating to the end result?
2. Regarding XP clients, have issues been experienced with the default SQL Server driver or is an alternate recommended for XP clients to connect to a MSSQL 64-bit server databases?
3. If you have performed this migration and have relevant experience please pass them along.
Deploying MSSQL 2005 Express DB To MSSQL 2005 WKGP Errors
Sep 29, 2006DB is developed on local computer with MSSQL 2005 Express. My host is on MSSQL 2005 workgroup. Are they compatible, because I am getting errors? Is my approach wrong?
I have tried several approaches.
A) I created a backup of database on my local, then placed a copy on the server. Then I tried to restore through Server Management Studio. I get this error.

C: I have also tried opening the Database, and back up file through Server Management Studio. without success.
D: I also tried Windows and Software update at microsoft update, but no updates were recommended for Version on Server.
I'm surprised this is so hard. My original data base was created in same family of software. 2005 MS SQL Express. I could use some direct help from someone experienced with this. Am I doing it wrong or are the DB versions incompatible.

Jan 14, 2008Just a quick question that I really couldn't find using google or anything because it was too bland.
How do you return the whole database while still using the LIKE operator.
I have a textbox that you can use to search the database but I want all the data to be displayed underneath the box so you can "browse" the data if you don't know the name of what you are looking for.
What would I put as the default value? I used just defaultvalue="%" and that worked in 1 area, but not another. Is this the right way?

SQL AND/OR Operator
Apr 30, 2008I have a query and for the life of me I cant figure it out.
I have a web form with a number of textboxes on it e.g. Title, subtitle, isbn. I also have a search button. This search page allows a user to enter any combination of fields in the form and then when they click the search button, a datagrid is diaplyed showing the results (gets the results from a SQL DB).
I have got the code working if the user selects say one item, but I dont know how to allow it so that the user can enter any combination of items in the form and the search button will search for it based on what the user says. I think im gettng confused with my logical operators in the sql statement.

well this works ....but the problem is that i have some Ref in this format "MC-909" and if the user makes a search with the word "MC909" ...it dosent return any value ...
How can i solve this ??

I also need to add an additional condition : like '07%'. How can I do this, i. e I need the projects where the type = A , status = Done and project_id starting with 06 and 07.

This is my first message on this forum. Well, I want to write a query which finds the length of the employee names whose name starts with J, A or S?.
This is what I did:
SELECT LENGTH(ENAME) FROM EMP
WHERE ENAME LIKE 'A%' OR LIKE 'J%' OR LIKE 'S%'
This query does not work. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with it?

I'm having problems using the between operator in a query statement.

where date between @date1 and @date2
The date values with a hour specified, aren't returned. What is the approach you would recommend here?

EDIT: by playing with this problem I've figured out I can append the hour to the date like this: <date> between @fromDate + '00:00:00' and @toDate + '23:59:59'
this seem to work, but I'm not sure if this is correct
Dynamic Operator Help

I'm trying to build a form that will allow users to choose their own parameters for the Select statement in the SqlDataSource. These results would then be displayed back to a GridView control. The only problem I am having is figuring out how to allow them to choose the operator (=, <, >, <>, etc) from a dropdown list. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this with a SqlDataSource control? It is probably something simple and any help would be much appreciated.

I have to paginate a datalist (and I really can't use a datagrid because of the layout, blame the bluddy graphic designer)
I want to return the top 8 rows, the next 8 top rows and so on.
This is the sql string I have:

Of course, this returns all records where the value of itemID is greater than the value of startrec. How would I change this so it returns the next 4 rows starting from the row number given by the value of startrec?
