Error message: Setup failed to configure the server
I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition on a 2nd workstation in our area for development and practice with having this 2nd workstation as a "local" (test) SQL Server box. The install fails with the above mentioned message. (We have a database running in production on SQL Server 2000 and we need a place to simply copy the database and run tests on it)
The target PC is running WInXP Pro-SP3 and has IIS installed, along with Visual Studio 2005 & .Net framework, etc.
I downloaded it (via MSDN license) and accepted the defaults on the install.
I have tried to install SQL Server 2005 Standard edition with CLUSTERING. I faced a problem and everything rolls back.

I have refered to PostI=1659185 posted by Fly and it still won't be able to fix my problem.
I have added LOCAL SERVICE into the local group (SQLServer2005MSFTEUser$AAA$MSSQLSERVER), but it still can't work.
Please can someone help me on this. Thank a lot....
Hi I am trying to install SQL server 7 on XP. I did not install any prerequisite such as service pack 4. During the installation process, I received a error message that says:
'Setup fail to configure the server. Refer to server errorlog and cnfigsvr.out for more information. '
In Errorlog file, the last part of it says:

SQL server's non-unicode sort order is: 'no case_iso'(ID=52)
SQL servers non-Unicode character setn is 'iso_1(ID=1)

I recently had configured my Web Server based on Windows 2003 Server and IIS 5x. I'd also installed SQL Server 2005 into this. Now I want toc onfigure this SQL Server, so that my client can access their database through a DNS name. I request you all for your kind support in this regard. Thanks in advance.

Does enabling/disabling Data Execution Prevention have a performanceimpact on SQL 2000 or SQL 2005?For SQL best performance - how should I configure for:Processor Scheduling:Programs or Background servicesMemory Usage:Programs or System Cache
i have a client with a windows 2003 server with 4 processors & 32 GB RAM, then MSSQL 2000 SP3. our software seems to run fine on it until the Task Manager shows the MSSQL using 1.7GB of RAM. At this point the whole system seems to slow down to a snails pace. Any ideas as to why 1.7GB and it never goes over that amount no matter how much activity i run on it. Restart mssql and everything seems to run good up until we see the 1.7GB again.
Our company is going to use SAN (HP or EMC or Fuji) for SQL Server failover rather than MSCS. So far, DBA has no knowledge of SAN.
Would you please to tell me, how does SAN depend on SQL Server? I assume SAN software can make disk failover if there is a network, disk or OS failure in primary node. If SQL Server or SQL Agent is failure, can SAN software detect it? (or can SAN disk failover depend on SQL Server or SQL Agent services?)
Please let me know where can I find any configuration document regarding SAN for SQL Server failure. I had spent 2 days in HP and EMC wrbsite and found nothing.
I have a SQL Server job, which runs mutiple steps. One of the steps(step 3) looks for a record in the database. How can I explicitly failthe SQL server job if the database record does not exist?
Hi group, being pretty new to setting up sql server, I am stuck. Have installed sql 2000 server on Win 2000 server, IIS 5.0. I try to connect via ASP script that looks like this:<%Set Conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")ConStr = "PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB; DATA SOURCE=192.168.1.99"ConStr = ConStr & ";UID=someUser;PWD=somePassword" ConStr = ConStr & ";initial catalog=myDatabaseName;network library=DBMSSOCN"Conn.Open ConStrConn.CloseSet Conn = Nothing%>The IP number is the webserver my router points to on port 80.But get an HTTP 500 error and "The page cannot be displayed"Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong here, would be very much appreciated.I have run applications for a long time that operate Access databases, but starting a new, an big project, forces me to upgrade to sql databases.Best wishesFCH
We just got a new server. We are running Windows 2000 with Office 2000 and SQL Server 2000 (Standard Edition).
To set up the mail for SQL 2000 it says to use Outlook client in "corporate" mode. This mode doesn't have the IMAP option on internet Mail only POP3.
Did I miss an option while installing Outlook? I've only been able to find a third party vendor that has a solution but our IS/IT people are not in favour of going this route.
I installed Micrsoft Server Desktop Engine from the CD I received in my ASP.net book. The installation went fine and then I went to the DOS prompt and did the "setup SAPWD..." and it ran. I restarted my computer and opened ASP Matrix and went to the Data tab and proceed to connect to the server. It gave me an error message it couldn't connect.
So I uninstalled MSDE and made sure the sql2ksp3 folder was gone. So I went ahead and installed the MSDE again from the CD again and then went to DOS to do the setup. It ran through the setup until the very end with 11 seconds remaining and received error message " Setup failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and setup logs for more information. I have tried it several times and it always stops around 11 seconds. I have tried to install the download from microsoft.com instead the CD and that didn't work also. So at this point I am stuck. PLEASE HELP!
I also checked my Registry keys for a file called PendingFileRenameOperations and it wasn't in the registry keys.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.
My uncle runs a small networking company and has extra licenses for Windows 2003 Server as well as SQL Server 2000. Since I just graduated from college and have started working as a database programmer (for a different company) I'd like to setup a small server at home to learn more about SQL (as well as networking, but SQL is my primary concern). I know I can setup SQL Server 2000 on my main PC, but I'd still like to set everything up in a server environment.
So, what I'm wondering is if any books (or web sites?) exist that walk you through setting up Windows 2003 Server and SQL Server 2000. I've actually set these up before (it's not very complicated) but I'm not sure if I did it the "correct" way.
Ideally if any books exist on O'Reilly's Safari Bookshelf that would be even better.
I have installed SQL 2005 and was trying to run one of the Samples. I installed SQL as an instance, but when I run the setup script, it fails because it can not assign permissions to the ASPNET account.
It looks like it thinks the account is ServerNameInstanceNameASPNET, but it should be ServerNameASPNET.
SQL server 20005 SP2 is install in my WIN XP machine. I implement a SSRS report and try to deliver the report to a share folder in window 2000 server.
I create and set permissions on a shared folder as per the information in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345228.aspx. The account that I use in subscription is local admin account in the target machine.
I have try path \<servername>c$XXX and \<servername>XXX. Both is not ok.
I find following error message in the log file of reporting service.
ReportingServicesService!library!d!04/29/2008-00:03:40:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.FileShareDeliveryProvider.FileShareProvider+NetworkErrorException: A logon error occurred when attempting to access the file share. I am having problems installing the SQL Server Compact Server Tools on my Vista laptop to allow me to connect my Mobile Device running SQL Server Compact directly to my SQL Server 2005 database through IIS.
I have done this successfully with an XP machine so I'm not sure if it is Vista problem or not.
I have installed SQL Server 2005 SP2. When I try to install the replication server tools (Sqlce30setupen.msi), in "System Configuration Check" window I get a failure on "SQL Server requirement" that says: "You must first install the Replication Components for SQL Server 2000 SP 3a or higher or the SQL Server 2005 Replication Components" and the client components are full instaled in my computer.
Below is a script I found that will help me turn on C2 auditing. The problem is that I am generating trace files that take up way too much space.
I need to know what column id and event id, so I am only turning on "failed login" and nothing else.
exec sp_trace_setevent @TraceID, x, x, @on
Code Snippet
CREATE PROC AuditTrcProc AS -- Create a Queue declare @rc int declare @TraceID int declare @maxfilesize bigint set @maxfilesize = 1
-- Please replace the test InsertFileNameHere with an appropriate -- filename prefixed by a path, eg.. c:MyFolderMyTrace. The .trc extention -- will be appended to the filename automatically. If you are writing from -- remote server to local crive, please use UNC path and make sure server has -- write access to your network share
declare @cmd sysname
set @cmd = 'copy c: empsessiontrace.trc c: empsession' + cast(cast(rand() * 1000000 as int) as varchar) print @cmd exec master..xp_cmdshell @cmd
Is it possible to install SQL Server 2005 Eval on a Virtual PC 2007 client running Server 2008 Beta? Nothing says it isn't possible, it says I need to service pack it right away, but before it gets started it comes up with the error 'sqlcu.dll failed to load'. Anyone know what this is all about?
Hi I'm an experienced programmer, but just don't have much experience with ASP or MSSQL. I inherited a website and now need to set up an automated backup system for a fairly large (40MB) MSSQL database hosted by a 3rd party provider of reasonable quality with ASP and SQL Server 2000. Let's avoid ASP.NET solutions since the website I inherited is written in "straight up" ASP (old school).
I have access to the database, login etc. I'm thinking I should combine an ASP script with the database connectivity and write daily/weekly backups to a dir on the hosting server.
I am doing my final semester project. It is a migration tool that converts the DB2 PL dialect into MSSQL Server's T-SQL dialect. I am in need of sample DB2 PL files(procedures, UDFs, triggers) for testing the tool. Please point out me to some DB2 files repository links or if you have some files, please give me the same. I will use this only for testing purposes.
I've got a weird problem that started today on our SQL server at work. Apparently the transaction logs filled up for one DB, and SQL server decided to create 230 gb of errors on the subject, filling my D: drive. Well, I had no problem deleting the error logs and truncating the transaction logs, but my Enterprise Manager MMC will no longer function.
Search results turned up a fix that worked for most people, but not for me. So I'm pretty sure I've got no choice but to reinstall over-the-top. But, will this cause any loss of existing databases (obviously back them up first), users/security, and scheduled tasks (db backups, etc)?
I'd like to do minimal damage to this thing because there are several DB's set up from before my time, and I don't have time to manage this thing completely (as you might have guessed, no one really manages things here). Any help is appreciated.
