I have some simple files but they are failing because the delete history task is failing as it is looking for files in a non existent directory.
It is looking for files in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL10_50.INSTANCEMSSQLLog whereas it should be looking in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLLog
how I can get this corrected so I can get the Maintenance Plans to run correctly.
I have tried deleting and recreating the Plan but to no avail

I'm using below script within the execute T-SQL statement task of the maintenance plan, which is created to delete the zip files older than 2 days, the task runs before the backup database task gets kicked off, but some how the task is not deleting the old .zip files.
Code being used within the task: output of the @delete_file variable within the delete command is Del X:SQLBackup*2015_05_06*.zip before it is passed to the final exec statement, the server is in EST time zone.
declare @ConvertDate char(10)
declare @Delete_file varchar(80)
set @ConvertDate = CONVERT ( char(10) , dateadd( dd, -2, getdate()) , 121 )
[code]....

I used the toolbox to select maintenance cleanup task to create the job to do this. In reading similar notes regarding this problem, some people mentioned that there was a choice to include subfolders. I do not have this choice. When I execute select @@version I get Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3042.00 (X64) Feb 10 2007 00:59:02 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2) . This is running on a cluster. Any idea what is going on here? Thanks.

We have some to-disk backups scheduled on our 2000 Enterprise machine - nightly fulls, hourly logs - that go to a network share located on another machine. They were originally stored directly on the same machine as SQL Server, but we changed them to a remote destination within the past few weeks. This works okay, but despite having the maintenance plan set to remove files older than 2 days, old files don't seem to be removed. Understandably, this gets to be a problem when the backup disk becomes filled.
Is there any obvious reason why this option wouldn't work against a network share? I've checked the directory permissions, and the SQL Agent domain account should have no trouble deleting the files.

I have several maintenance plans setup and working in SQL/2005 (sp2 9.0.3042) on several servers; however, the .txt maint plan output files will not delete on any of the servers. The backups run fine, the old database and transaction log backup files delete fine (.bak and .trn); but, the .txt files won't go away unless I delete them by hand. I tried copy/paste the scripted command (xp_delete_file) and it runs with no errors but does not delete the old .txt files. ( This server was upgraded from SQL/2000 -
EXECUTE master.dbo.xp_delete_file 1,N'E:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLLOG',N'txt',N'2007-07-09T10:59:38'
)
I do NOT specify a period (.) in the file extension dialog box. Any ideas before I setup a .cmd batch file and schedule it instead?
Thanks in Advance,
DeWayne

I want to delete all files in a given folder that are older than 3 days from today's date.
I tried using a "Foreach Loop container" with a "File System" task inside it but found I couldn't access any file properties such as the file creation date. Am I using the wrong task for this job?
TIA,
Barkingdog
P.S. History of the problem:
I used the sql 2005 Database maintenance program to setup our database backup jobs. One day I noticed that the free space on the drive where we keep the dumps had grown small. I found that we had at least 4 weeks of dumps in there, not the 3 days I wanted to keep! I looked but could not find the "delete file" option in the SSIS package generated by the Database Maintenance Wizard. No wonder the files were piling up.

I created a maintenance plan to back up a database. It fails and I get the follow error in the log file.
Microsoft (R) SQLMaint Utility (Unicode), Version [Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000)] Error 4064: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
What user is it referring to? What user does a Maintenance plan use to login as? SA on the server has full access to all databases. SA’s default database is master and I can read and write to it with the enterprise manager and query analyzer.
All replies appreciated

Hello,
On SQL 2005 with mixed authentication, I am simply trying to create a maintenance plan to backup one single database. When I get to the end of the wizard, the creation process fails with this message:
Create maintenance plan failed().
I installed SQL 2005 using my domain account and the services are running under my account credentials. I am a domain and local admin.
Any ideas?

This account is having login failure when I try to run the maintenance job. Would like to figure out why this account cannot authenticate with SQL. Had to replace leased server hardware running Server2003, Sql2005. Had machine Server B, set up sql2005, set up maintenance plan to do full backup on all user dbs every night to Server C network share. Worked great for over a week. Came time to do the swamp, brought down old server, renamed Server B to Server A, ran:
EXEC sp_dropserver '<old_name>'
GO
EXEC sp_addserver '<new_name>', 'local'
GO
All other functions to the database seem to be working fine. Was using a network administrator account - same one that worked before the name change so the SID is the same. Unfortunately, I decided to try and delete and start over in case it was just a gliche. Now, the history seems to be gone, but I can't actually delete the job or the maintenance plan. Get an error "Does not allow remote connections." even when I'm physically sitting at the machine.
Now, maintenance plans won't run - can't delete them, can't modify them. Other dts packages that execute a query or bring in data from other datasources work just fine.
Help!?

Ever since upgrading SQL Server 2005 to SP2 build 3050 all my maintenance plans which begin with a Check Database Integrity Task are failing! If I remove the task from the plan they all execute properly. If I run the T-SQL equivalent manually it executes properly.
I upgraded the server to build 3054 and rebooted several times and Im still having no luck. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help with this.

Does anyone know how to get the user db's to show up in the dropdown?

Hello, everyone:
I have a strange trouble on SQL Server 2005 on XP/local and Win 2003/server. When I connect local database and create a backup plan named by "backup plan", I can see the name under "maintenance plan" and "Jobs" under SQL Server Agent. But if I connect to server database and do the samething, I cannot see the name under "maintenance plan". I can see the name under "Jobs" under SQL Server Agent. But cannot delete this job, and message:
Drop failed for job "Backup Plan".(Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo).
Did someone meet this bug and have suggestions?
Thanks

Our backups by default go to a network location, but I'd like to modify our maintenance plans to backup to an alternative location if the primary location isn't available. I've setup two Backup Database Tasks where the second one runs only if the first one Fails, and if the second one runs (on first one's failure) it then sends a notification to me so I know this occurred.
The Plan is running as expected, when I simulate a bad path in the first Backup Task the second one runs and the notification is sent, but the Job shows failure. I'd like to show the job as Successful when this occurs since I'm handling the issue and notification within the Plan, but I'm unable to find out how. I've set FailParentOnFailure to False on the Plan and I've changed the MaximumErrorCount to 2 with the assumption that this would work, but neither didn't.
Also I'm running into this in both SQL 2008 and SQL 2012.

Hello,
We're new users of SQL Server 2005. I created two maintenance plans...one to backup the database at 2 AM daily and one to back up transaction logs every 30 minutes. These maintenance plans write to a local disk. What we want to do, within the maintenance plan, is copy the files as soon as they are written to a remote server. Is that possible?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
We have a SQL Server 2005 64-bit, and recently I upgrade from build 3042 to 3054 and I try to do a maintenance plan for transaction logs(TL) backup, including cleanup for two days (have full backup every night).
Problem I have is that I want the TL files to dump in a different location(due to disk space), so I put in the UNC path in the "Create a backup file for every database - >Folder:\FileServerTLDBLogs"
NB: if using the local drives, it work
Check List
Security:
- The account that I used to create the plan is an sa account
- The location that I dump the TL files, I have full access to the folder
SQL Statement:
exec xp_cmdshell 'dir FileServerTLDBLogs' (it list all files)
Is this a bug for 64-bit? because I can do this on SQL Server 2005 32-bit and it's work perfectly

line 1? Is that line one of the T-SQL statement? Because if that's the case then it's not because I copied and pasted the line in to a query and it executed without error.
Under SQL Agent there are no entries!
So what bloody log am I suppose to be checking?! This is very frustrating.
I then copied and pasted every sql statement in to a query and THEY all ran just fine.
What's going wrong here, and how can I correct it?

We are using SQL Server 2005 (SP1). I have created a maintenance plan that backs up up the datebase every night. The problem is that the transaction log is continuing to grow. I have been told that a full backup will automatically truncate and shrink the transaction log. However, this is not happening. How can I truncate and shrink the transaction log after a full backup as part of our maintenance plan. Thank you.

I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise, then SP1 and then SP2, Maintenance Plan worked. But if I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise and then SP2 directly (skipping SP1), the Check Database Integrity in Maintenance Plan was not working. The error message is as follows:

Other tasks like Rebuild Index seem to be fine. SP2 is supposed to be inclusive. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening.

Hi there
I feel like a complete nitwit. I've been using SQL 2000 for about 5 years now and regularly set up automatic backups using the wizard for many people. I'm in no way an advanced user and have enjoyed some of the more user-friendly features of SQL 2000 such as the backup wizard.
Well now we have SQL 2005 and I can't find the "wizard". I did a lot of googling and found very little on this. The frustration is mounting - let alone the fact that I had to edit the registry just to be able to perform a manual backup in the first place... :-(
Apparently their is a "maintenance plans" folder but the only place I can find this is under "Legacy" and you can't create jobs there.
Has anybody else had this issue? Is there a bug in SQL 2005? I reinstalled the full version with all options selected and still can't find this folder. Am I just being completely "blonde"?
