I have a column called demand and one called orders. I want to divide the demand column figure by the order column figure and put the new values in a column called AOV.

hi,I was pulling up a report in SQL, and I wanted the records to be ordered by dates descending. However, I found this ordering was only fine enough to order records by dates (not hours or minutes) (within the same date, records were ordered so that the latest entered were at the bottom). I wonder if anyone else has encouted this problem before, or I am doing something wrong.Thanks very much.

Calculation of an average using DAX' AVERAGE and AVERAGEX.This is the manual calculation in DW, using SQL.In the tabular project (we're i've noticed that these 4 %'s are in itself strange), in a 1st moment i've noticed that i would have to divide by 100 to get the same values as in the DW, so i've used AVERAGEX:

The results were, respectively: 701,68; 2120,60...; -669,441; and finally **-694,74** for Avg_FMPdollar.i can't understand the difference to SQL calculation, since calculations are similar to the other ones. After that i've tried:
test:=SUM([_FMPdollar])/countrows('Fct Sales') AND the value was EQUAL to SQL: -672,17
test2:=AVERAGE('Fct Sales'[_Frontend Margin Percent ACY]), and here, without dividing by 100 in the end, -696,74...
So, AVERAGE and AVERAGEX have a diferent behaviour from the SUM divided by COUNTROWS, and even more strange, test2 doesn't need the division by 100 to be similar to AVERAGEX result.
I even calculated the number of blanks and number of zeros on each column, could it be a difference on the denominator (so, a division by a diferente number of rows), but they are equal on each row.
I have a temp_max column and a temp_min column with data for every day for 60 years. I want the average temp for jan of yr1 through yr60, averaged...
I.E. the avg temp for Jan of yr1 is 20 and the avg temp for Jan of yr2 is 30, then the overall average is 25.
The complexity lies within calculating a daily average by month, THEN a yearly average by month, in one statement.

In SQL sERVER 2008, I have two fields - Depatment and Employees. I need to sort the result set by employee number ascending order, with following exception
1)when department number = 50 - the preferred order is Employee # - 573 followed by 551-572 (employee # belong to Dept 50 = 551-573)
2)When Department number = 20 – the preferred sort order is Employee # 213-220, followed by Employee # 201-213 (employee # belong to Dept 20 = 201-220)
How shall I achieve this?
I never paid much attention to this before but I noticed this today in a new table I was creating.
For tables defined in the tabular model the table properties have something like SELECT Blah FROM TableName ORDER BY Blah Then in the tabular model the table's data is in the same order it was ordered by in the data source for the table.
I have a date table I setup and I noticed it is NOT respecting the sort order.
I have it sorted by DateID which sorts with the oldest date first and newest date as last row.However, the table that is imported and stored in the data model is not in that order.
I can of course manually sort the rows in BIDS/DataTools, but I find this discrepancy odd.
Would this have negative impacts on the EARLIER function for example if the data rows are not in the order specified?
I have a query that calculate the total amount of order details based on a particular order:

My question is what if I wanted to create a formula to something like:

Do I need to create a function for that? Also is it possible to have m y query as a table variable?

I recently run into a senario when a procedure quiered a table without a order by clause. Luckily it retrived data in the prefered order.
The table returns the data in the same order in SQL Manager "Open Table"
So I started to wonder what deterimins the sort order when there is no order by clause ?
I researched this for a bit but found no straight answers. My table has no PK, but an identiy column.

I have created view by jaoining two table and have order by clause.
The sql generated is as follows

I noticed that StockDate is a datetime datatype so why does the month get ordered 1st, then day get ordered 2nd and year get ordered 3rd...

Lets say I have a table named [Leadership] and I want to select the field 'leadershipName' from the [Leadership] Table.
My query would look something like this:

Now, I would like to order the results of this query... but I don't want to simply order them by ASC or DESC. Instead, I need to order them as follows:
Executive Board Members, Delegates, Grievance Chairs, and Negotiators
My question: Can this be done through MS SQL or do I need to add a field to my [Leadership] table named 'leadershipImportance' or something as an integer to denote the level of importance of the position so that I can order on that value ASC or DESC?

1) level by level order 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10....
2) in order 1,2,4,5,8,9,3,6,7,10,11,12,13...
What would be the aueries for this. Using the following i get: 1,2,3,6,7,10,11,12,13,4,5,8,9 (interesting and potentially useful) but I would like to be able to experiment with the aforementioned orders as well.

Now to calculate the average inside the grouping I have used this

I am at a loss how to calculate the group footer (Result = 30.88 ) which is equal to (96.82 + 26.70 + 0 + 0 ) / 4 . This is the result from the existing Crystal report. I am trying to convert this report to reporting services. Now I cannot nest aggregate functions and also the row number can be dynamic I am confused how to resolve it.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I have two tables, table a holds all the votes by users of each element in table b. I was wondering, how do I get the average of all those votes in table a that relate to that each instance of a element in table b. For example table b has two elements created by a certain user that has been voted 5 times each by users with scores like 2, 5, 4, 2 , 2 for both of them. Hello all!This might be a newbie question, and there might be something Im just not thinking of right now, but I have a set of values that I need to get the average of but only from the middle 90%. Example:11 <-From here1234456 <- To here.7I thought I could solve it by subqueries and do the following:Select (((Select sum top 5 order asc) + (Select sum top 5 order desc)) - sum total)/rows*0.9 which would give me what I want, but I realised that when aggregating I cant order the subqueries.This is for an application (that will run the query on a sql-server) that only takes one query (although subqueries should be fine), and thats why I have a problem, I cant build any views or things like that.I guess my question is very simple: How can I get a sum of the bottom 5 percent without sorting descending?
