How would I hide the sa account to be accessible under Logins for a restricted User in sql server 2005 and also other folders like Replication, Managment, etc need to be hidden too.

I am trying to come up with a solution that does not involve having a version of every stored procedure for every user I have...
Here is the problem...
I am going to have multiple users that need to have their own "product table". The structures are going to be the same for all. We currently only have one user and it is a DBO... all stored procedures are dbo.[sp name]... is there any way to get it so that the product table in the SP will be the user owned product table and not the dbo table??
I have tried just taking out the dbo prefix with no luck... the user's default schema will match the table they own so when they do a straight select they get the right information but it is just the SPs that I can't seem to get to work...
The only thing that I have come up with is making the SPs dynamic with having the username as parameter.
Is there anything else I can try??

View 2 Replies View RelatedI restored a sql server database today. There is a problem though. In SQL server, right next to the name of the database are the words "Restricted User". Their seem to be some limitations on my access to this database now as I am not able to run some of my C# code against the database. How can I fix this in SQL server so that I am not a Restriced user.
Example of what I am talking about. In SQL server my database is named Gorlaz. Just to the left of this is a yellow Icon that represents the database "Gorlaz". For illustration purposes I will use the character "$" to substitute for the yellow database icon. So this is how it reads in SQL server management studio.

Greetings,VWD EE and other Tools do not have problems working O.K. on my machine, when I am logged-on as restricted(limited) user, both environment and local web server are functioning, and it was MS effort to do it right.BUT the Problem is, when I try to connect to database->new DB connection(either through vwd or management studio etc). I get an Error - which should be written to event log (according to msg) but it isn't - that I can't connect. I am sure that it is because NO SQL SERVER2005EXPRESS instance is running, which I think is the only prerequisite to have it work (I do not need sqlbrowser service I am doint local development).SQL2005express service is configured on MANUAL start. I can start it as administrator through SQL config manager, but it is not convienient and what I want. I need to start it ONLY as a developer user, I do not want it to be running all-the-time for everyuser using computer. It was congigured as Network Service logon, I tried Local Service logon, and I even tried configuring it to logon as -my developer user- account, e.g. with limited user name and his password.In every case I can't start the service as member of users group and this developer. Then I added limited user to SQL2005EXPRESS group. Still NO help, won't start either.My question is, If I want to start developing ADO2.NET application and I need to have running SQL2005Express instance as a develper, how can I start it? I think I do not have some rights to masterDB or something. Do it allways need to be running when computer starts? After I create small new database with same tables login work! I am admin on my local PC. Any ideas why my restored database has note: "Restricted User"? I see 3 possibilities:
1. The DOMAINAdministrator (person wo starts up the Server at Bootup)
2. 'sa', or
3. a person/user closely tied to the database.
reasons for each?

I'm developing an intranet application and am using the Express versions of VWD and SQL Server 2005 for initial development before obtaining full licensed versions.
Database connections work fine when testing from within VWD but when testing from browser, unless the database owner is the IIS servernameASPNET, there are various errors depending on the specific connection settings, i.e.
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. -
Receive this error when a GridView is connected to a remote SSE db.

Receive this error when GridView is connected to local SSE db not owned by servernameASPNET.

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.
This happens when using any control that is connected to SSE db created in VWD and stored in App_Data folder (owner is the user logon name)

Secondary replica database(setup in async mode) of AlwaysON went in "restricted mode" during weekly reindex operation.
So I have tried below steps
1) Executed following statement on the same secondary replica database where the issue exists
alter database <DBNAME> set multi_user with rollback immediate
but it failed with the error saying "The operation cannot be performed on database "dbname" because it is involved in a database mirroring session or an availability group. Some operations are not allowed on a database that is participating in a database mirroring session or in an availability group. ALTER DATABASE statement failed."
2) Primary database is multi_user but still tried following command on primary replia database(thinking it will replicate)
alter database <DBNAME> set multi_user
but no luck. The secondary alwaysON database shows (synchronizing) as the alwaysON is set in async mode but the command doesn't replicate across secondary
so we are left with the only option to re-setup alwaysON but I want to avoid it as database size is huge..
any other options or am I missing anything?

I use Sql server express 2005.I have two databases: db1 and db2.I use Studio Management. I connect with my administrator account 'admin'.
1) When i rightclick on db1 (and also on db2) and i take the properties / general, i see for both db: owner = servernameadmin .When i take properties / Files, i see for db1: owner = servernameadmin , but for db2, it remains empty.why and does it mean that db2 has no owner? But then, why do i see in properties / general : owner = servernameadmin?
2) i want to make 'admin' owner of db2 (for creating a database diagram), so in properties / Files, i click on the button with three dots.A windows "select database owner" appears, i click on button 'browse', but then all i see is:built-in administartorsbuilt-in userssa...
Whatever i choose (e.g; built-in administrators), i get the message: an entity of database cannot be owned by a role, group ... error 15353).

I am a bit new to using MS-SQL, up till now my main adminstration was in Oracle.
I have a question, my developers make changes to my MS-SQL databases, however, they always login as a local admin or use their domain WIndows accounts - with the given privileges. Then they amend the database.
My idea is to avoid logging into an MS-SQL server without using a Remote Desktop. So they will need some kind of a client.
What is your experience and what would be the best way to do this? Meaning, what software can I use that does not require a license fee?
With Oracle I can install the Oracle client which has an SQLPLUS to login remotely. Does MS-SQL have something similar?

I am more used to doing this in Oracle sopls bear with me...I don't want to have any downtime on the 6.5 db, so I'm thinking perhapsimport is the best way to go? VWD 2005 Express. Visual Basic. Sql Server 2005. I am trying to establish a connection to a SQL database. The connection (and all other database reads and writes) work fine in debug and in "view in browser" from VWD. I am running the VWD on the same server that hosts the site. I am developing a web site with asp.net 2.0 and c#, using Visual Studio 2005 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 ( I am still learning about these technologies and languages ).I transferred my web site files to my NEW computer. The web site worked fine when running inside Visual Studio, however when I tried to run it in its PUBLISHED format it was giving this error message:Server Error in '/MA' Application. Cannot open database "SiteData" requested by the login. The login failed.Login failed for user 'CENTAURUSASPNET'.I solved the problem by running SQL Server Management Stdio, right clicking “SiteData� database -> properties -> permissions->view server permissions then I chose “CENTAURUSASPNET� and since I DID NOT KNOW what grants are ESSENTIAL for the functioning of the database, I GRANTED EVERYTHING ( I ticked ALL the permissions).
But since, probably, a lot of GRANTS are not only unnecessary but also may compromise the security of the web site, I would like to know what are the ESSENTIAL OR MINIMUM GRANTS NECESSARY for making the database functional to the web site and what grants may represent a security risk.
I I work for a small business who has a somewhat successful ecommerce site. Our website is based on some VERY large DB's with 10's of millions of records, and 40+GB of images, so we choose to self host so we could easily manage the data. As things have grown and we've cobbled a fair amount of integration between the website databases and our internal systems. Fast forward 4-5 years, the website has grown to the point that self hosting is costing us a fortune in bandwidth costs, so I'm thinking of moving to a co-location facility. If I do that, I need to send the website tables along with it. Is there a replication stradagy that would allow us to have two independant DB's, both able to take updates that would sync with one another? My other thought is to spit the tables on two different DB's and let some of the data live in the co-location facility.. but I am worried about the performance impact for local users.

I have a problem.While creating login for a single table in a database we know the public role is given by default.
I have use to disabled all public priviledges by-
Use northwind
revoke all from public
executing through query Analyser.
And after creating a role named "reception" and giving the priviledges of "select' to customer table by ticking and assigning that role to the login I get my login.
But using that login When I login,I can use select to see customer table.
And except that nothing is allowed.
But when i write
use pubs
select * from sales
I get the entire results.
Plz suggest me a way to block everything except the "select" of customer table.
