This is probably a st00p1d n00b question, but here goes:
I have a DTS package that I got from someone else, but it needs to be edited. It was set as a local package, but when I double-click it in Enterprise Manager and edit it, then save and quit, I can go right back in and changes are gone, as if it was never edited.
Well, lo and behold, I got the bright idea to edit the package using Notepad, then bring the package back into Enterprise Manager. Now it says it can't do it because it's no longer a DTS Package. Fortunately, I have another unmodified copy, or I would have really thrown out the baby with the bathwater.
So my question is: What do I need to use to edit the package offline, then be able to bring it back into Enterprise Manager as a valid DTS Package?
HI, I created a dts package using my Windows NT authentication. One of my colleague edited that package last week and when I tried to open it now, it gives me an error message "The system cannot find the file specified". The package still has my NT id as the owner. Could anyone please let me know why is this happening ??? My colleague is still able to edit my package. My NT id and my colleague NT id both are setup as administrators on the sql server. Any help is greatly appreciated.
OK, I've figured out how to create and schedule my packages. now I want to go back in and redefine some of the options. How can I get at it so i can edit it.
I found a problem in the SQL that's a part of a SSIS package written by a third party, which is in our SQL Server 2008 R2 database. I've discussed this with the third party person; she's given me the necessary changes to the SQL. But I don't know what to do next.We've got this package on a test database server. I've got SSIS open to Stored Packages and have drilled down to the necessary folders to find it. But beyond that I don't know what to do. I understand that BIDS is involved, but that's as far as my understand of it goes.
I have used the wizard to import a DTS package from a SQL 2000 server to our new SQL 2005 server and need to make edits to reference the new server and database. I am able to see the package within the SQL Management studio under Integration Services, but I cannot find it in the Development studio?
I was working on a flat file import spec yesterday, using the import wizard, and I saved my work as a SSIS package. Today, if I connect to Integration Services through SQL Management Studio, I can see the package, but I can't edit it. I've tried to open the package using BIDS, but I can't find it on the server. Obviously it exists, but where?
How the heck can I edit this package? And, where is it? I don't understand why things are so much more difficult in 2005 vs. 2000.
We have an SSIS package that was created to migrate data in from a few production databases. The steps for the package are as follows...
backup databases on server 1 (prod database server) restore database to SSIS server (server 2) . truncate worker tables in SSIS server's (server 2) Main DB database. copy data from restored db tables to working db tables ( database to database) Start Multiple threads (15 ) and run steps from here in parrallel Combination of Data flow tasks and SQL scripts and Stored procedures used to flatten data out and combine data for reporting purposes.
The average run time is 8 hours.
the issue we are seeing is this, the package will fluctuate in run times from 4 hours to over 11 with no change in the data or the underlying SSIS package. We have looked for any changes or things that would effect this but have not found anything that changed...
Also, certain steps are running shorter while others double in time. there doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to this behaviour. The server is x64 12GB of RAM 2 dual core 3.2Ghz.
Please let me know if you need any more information or specifics...
the only thing I have seen so far that looks out of place is Tempdb has one of its files that is 20+GB.
We are on SQL Server 2000 SP2 version. I have 3 DTS packages that are running successfully every day. We need to change them as the source side tables are going to be changed pretty soon. When I go into the designer view Enterprise Manager hangs when I do any of the following:
1. click on Properties for the transformation task 2. Click on Disconnected Edit 3. Click on Properties of connection 1(IBM DB2/400 Source), properties window pops up, now change the userid/pwd and click ok.
Is it possible to open a package that is saved to a server??
The reason being is I develop on desktop but some of the development I cannot do due to access restrictions.... So I want to save the package to the server then do the final creation there...
I created a package via the import wizard in SQL Server Management Studio. When I test-ran the package I realised it needed to be modified. How do I do this without using either Visual Studio, SSIS Designer or an XML editor, none of which is installed where the package was created? Ideally I want to hear that there's a way of redisplaying the package in the import wizard.
I "upgraded" to Windows 10 (I was installing a new c: drive anyway). Â I installed SQL Server & SSIS, Visual Studio 2012, SQL Server Data Tools 2012, etc. When I try to load up my project (.sln) in SQL Data Tools I get the following warnings/errors:

As well as installing Windows 10, I had also renamed by computer. Â I have tried renaming it back (I noticed some references to the computer name in the xml), but no difference.Have I installed the wrong versions of one of the software? Â If so, how could I check which one I need to install (to match the VS project/dts package)? Â

I have a products database. I want to select product details for items having distinct style codes. IE if there are 20 products that different from one another in some way, and 3 different style numbers throughout them, I want to end up with 3 products selected. I don't care which ones, as long as i have a sample product for each style. I've attemped to use GROUP BY to do this, but it's not giving me what I want. I managed to get right number of products, but the query seems to have mixed and matched the fields together in an undesireable way. I guess this kinda makes sense, since providing aggregate functions for each of the extra fields is necessary. SO THE QUESTION IS: How do I select (number of distinct styles) products, and still keep the records in tact as they should be?

I have a dimension that has the following members:
Directors
Senior Managers
Managers
Senior Associates
Associates
But they way they need to be displayed includes subtotals. Senior Managers and Managers are placed into Management and Staff is a total of everyone except Directors. They should appear on the report in something like this:
Directors 10
Senior Managers 15
Managers 9
Management 24
Senior Associates 17
Associates 40
Staff 81
Total 91
What is the best way to do this? Right now I am using a matrix because I am also showing headcounts by Period. Is a table a better way to go? Is it something that should be done in my dimension?
I can do the Total part. I am just not sure how to make the subtotals inbetween the other lines.
I have been reading up on how replicating schema changes work, but I must be missing something. When I configured a database for replication, it added a rowguid column to each table. This I understand.
I want to test making a schema change and replicating that change. For example, I tried to add a column to an existing table. When I tried to save the table i get the following error:
"Error validating the default for column rowguid".
"- Unable to modify table. It is invalid to drop the default constraint on the rowguid column that is used by merge replication. The DDL operation failed inside merge DDL replication manipulation. The transaction ended in the trigger. The batch has been aborted."
So, what am I missing? Do i need to drop the rowguid column, add the new column, and then re-add the rowguid column?
In my ScriptTask, i am checking the file validity. Now if the file is found incorrect, I do not want the DataFlowTask and other to execute. Instead i want the file to be moved to Error and the loop to proceed with the next file. If the file validity is correct, DFT and ExecuteSQL execute. How do i do this?

I have some problems to edit a recordset in an ActiveX DTS using Vbscript. Here is an example of the script :

Does someone see what is wrong ? I allways get -1 for the varset.recordcount ! (I checked there are some records into the table). I don't think it is a problem of user's right as it works with the same user configuration using a SQL action requery. If I modify the open statement like this : varset.Open varsql, varconn, 1 varset.recordcount contains the good number of records but the recordset is read noly and can't be modified...
This is a basic, remedial question, but I've no experience whatsoever with SQL server or Access (although I'm familiar with basic DB concepts). Even so, I have inherited this project because no one else will take it (besides, I like the challenge of learning something new :-). If I understand correctly, I can use Access 2000 to create and edit DBs on my SQL 7 server, and to run queries. This is done by creating a WBEM ODBC connector (I have no idea how this is done). I'm pretty good at figuring things out on my own, but I sure would appreciate being pointed in the right direction. What I'd like to know is first of all, am I on the right track, and secondly, what do you all recommend as a good source of info on this topic (the Microsoft web site, technet, manuals?).
