Apr 12, 2007Is there any way to connect to a server automatically when SQL Server 2005 Management Studio starts?
I know it's not that tough to click 'Connect', but it's getting a bit annoying.

Can You See Auto Attached DB's In Management Studio As Well?
Jul 13, 2006When you have SQL Server Express installed, and you drop a database in App_Code it will be attached and you can browse it with Server Explorer in Visual Studio. Same when you choose Website -> ASP.NET Configuration, you get a new ASPNETDB database in App_Code and it will be attached.My question: is it normal behaviour that I cannot see these databases in the Object Browser in SQL Server Management Studio?For the record: I also have SQL Server 2005 Dev installed, so the Management Studio I have is not the Express edition.

Jan 23, 2008Perhaps I was seeing things earlier, and it's really a minor thing, but when I display query results in Management Studio, isn't there a setting that turns the background of cells containing NULL to a pale yellow color? I could've sworn it used to do this, and I've searched high and low for a preference setting, but no joy.
Does this setting exist?

Management Studio Crash, Connection Failure
Jan 23, 2008I have a problem establishing multiple connections in Management Studio. It is hard to describe, but it happens consistently when I try to open a new connection.
I can connect to the database engine successfully but when I try to open a "new query" the application just goes away without any errors. Both of these features requires their own connection and currently I cannot open both of them together and constantly have to switch back and forth by closing the tool. There are no messages in the sql error log, event viewer or windows log.
I believe it may be a problem with the installation of Management Studio because I only get this problem through my remote connections. I don't encounter this error when I access the server through Management Studio from my workstation and open multiple connections.
Has anyone seen this or can someone offer me some direction as to where to look?

PS:The Provider for this DB does not exist in LinkedServer

Connection Issue With Enterprise Manager But Works With Management Studio
Oct 26, 2006Hi,I have an interesting scenario. I have a SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition instance running on Computer A. I'm trying to access it through computers B and C.Computer B has Sql Server 2005 Express Edition installed and I was able to use its Management Studio and connect to instance on Computer A.Computer C has SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition installed. When I try to connect to the instance on Computer A, I get connection failed message.I checked some settings. Both TCP/IP and Named pipes are enabled on the instance in A. The TCP/IP port is set to 1433 for both client and server.Please give me some ideas as to how I can solve this problem. -Thanks

I had SQl Express version installed previously and everything worked. I could connect to one server running SQL Express and a different server running full up SQL 2005 enterprise version.
I uninstalled All SQL express programs and installed tools from SQL 2005 developer.
I have rebooted, started the program directly (not using a link of any kind) and all attempts fail. After dismissing the error msg the tool opens and I can run queries agains the DB but the database engines and related tables do not show.
My work station is Windows XP with SP2 installed.
I have googled the problem extensively and tried solutions found but none have solved the problem.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I have recently installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express but I do not find Management Tools in order to create scheduled backups and shrinking of the databases. I was under the impression that this should be included in the Management Studio. I use the SQL 2005 Express for smaller customers who run the SQL on a desktop unit. I need a way to backup the data to a server machine for backup purposes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

Mar 17, 2007I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason

SQL Management Studio X64
Nov 15, 2007We are use Vista X64 and SQL-Server 2005 X64 Developer Edition. We are able to connect to a sql2005 server x32 server using SQL 2005 management studio, 32-bit version. From the x64 box (vista x64 with sql x64), we are able to connect to the SQL 2005 32-bit server version using sqlcmd and telnet. But, we are having issues connecting to the 32-bit version of SQL 2005 using the x64 sql management studio GUI. I look all over the internet and the SQL BOL and I was not able to find any compatibility issues with the SQL Management Studio x64 been documented. I am thinking that the reason for the issue is because the SQL management studio is trying to connect using native x64 client drivers. If that is the case, is there another method of connecting to a x32 SQL server. I see that the only way to approach this issue is to install the 32-bit version of the SQL client tools on the x64 system. Thanks
P.S. all servers are using SQL SP2 ( no Cumulative Update 4)

Dec 3, 2007How can I get sql Management Studio (2005) to use Sql Compact 3.5? It's been working fine with 3.1, but now when I upgrade my own code to use 3.5 and create a new DB then management studio says it can't open it as it's the newer version (3.5xxx and it wants 3.0xxxx)

SQL Management Studio
Jul 2, 2007Installed SQL 2005 standard but the management tools did not install. The admin downloaded the SSMSE (Express version) which does not allow us to manage Analysis Services. We've tried un-installing the SSMSE and then tried to install from the Client Components on the installation disc, the Management console and it doesn't install. Any ideas on how to get the full version installed? Re-installing SQL Server 2005 is not an option as it's been configured and data is now residing in databases.
