Manually Input Data Into Replicated Table

Jul 17, 2007

Is it possible to have a replicated table that you can open from and input data manually?

That is, I've got a table that I am replicating data to and I want to add some manual data to this table, every now and then.

Will this break replication?

Can A Column Data Type Be Changed On A Replicated Table?

Dec 21, 2006

On sqlserver 2000 transactional replication:

How would I best go about changing a published table's column from smallint to int? I could not find anything about it in BOL or MS.com. I do not think EM/Replication Properties allows the change. I suspect I have to run "Alter Table/Column" on the Publisher and each Subscriber the old-fashioned way. Is that true?

Thanks!

SQL 2012 :: Data Migration - Pull Data From All DBs To Input Into DW Table

Jul 15, 2014

I have a cluster hosting multiple GP databases and a second for my data-warehouse I am playing around with (personal project).

I have scripts that pull data from all the DB's to input into the DW's tables(Customers,Reps,Hub....)

An example of my branch script :

select interidas BranchID,
cmpnynamas BranchDesc,
address1as BranchAddressLine1,
address2as BranchAddressLine2,
address3as BranchAddressLine3,
zipcodeas PostalCode
from dynamics..SY01500

Where interid in ('comp1', 'comp2', 'comp4', 'comp5')

what would be the best way to using these scripts pull the data to my testDW and not have duplicate data issues?

I was thinking of using a staging DB on the GP cluster and then building an import data package to run nightly. the issue i had was how do i avoid duplicate data ?

SQL 2000: Query Question - Input Data Within Two Tables And 'between' Table

May 1, 2008

Hello specialists.

Maybe this is the wrong formum but I've got a question for which you probably have the answer, i hope.

Situation
------------
John is member of Group_A and Group_B
Bill is member of Group_B and Group_C
Allison is member of Group_A and Group_E

How can I create a query to input Allisons username into table 1 and groupmembership into table 2. Also updating the relationship within table3 must be done automaticaly. I want to avoid duplicate records.
The final situation I want is given in red text.

The relationships between the tables are as follows
-------------------------------------------------------------
Table1 (PK)ID-Userinfo [ONE] <------------> [MANY] Table3 ID-Userinfo
Table3 (PK)ID-GroupInfo [MANY] <------------> [ONE] Table2 (PK)ID-GroupInfo

Table1: UserInfo
------------------------------
(PK)ID-Userinfo UserName
1 John
2 Bill
3 Allison

Table2: GroupInfo
------------------------------
(PK)ID-GroupInfo GroupName
1 Group_A
2 Group_B
3 Group_C

4 Group_E

Table3: MemberOf
------------------------------
(PK)ID-MemberOf ID-UserInfo ID-GroupInfo
1 1 1
2 1 2
3 2 2
4 2 3
5 3 1
6 3 4

I hope you can help me cracking this nut.

Thx in advance. Greetings Fred

Jul 24, 2005

Hi:
I have a UDF that splits a string based on a delimiter. The UDF returns a table of records:1- ID2- ValueThe string I am sending to split is:'2-4-07:00 AM-08:30 AM'I am splitting on '-'What I get back is a table of 4 rows.I want to get each value, convert it to the right data type, then assign it to its own variable. How can I get each row alone manually? Can I? Without using Cursors?if I do a "select * from Split(@myData,'-')", then I cannot retrieve each field alone,Thank you.

ALTER TABLE SWITCH PARTITION On A Replicated Table

Apr 10, 2007

A customer wants to implement table partitioning on a replicated table.

They want to hold 13 months of data in the table and roll off the earliest/oldest month to an identical archive table. The table has a date field and partitioning by month makes sense all around.

So SWITCH PARTITION is the obvious solution to this, except for the fact that the table is replicated (transactional w/no subscriber updates).

What are his architectural or practical solutions to using table partitioning and replication?

Manually Inserting Data In DateTime Field

Oct 2, 2006

Using Server Explorer in VB 2005, I am manually entering data in a table in a SQL Server 2005 Express database that includes a DateTime field. I have tried every conceivable format, but no matter what I try get one of these 2 errors:

1. String was not recognized as valid DateTime

2. Operand type class; text incompatible with DateTime

I have Googled this to death, but no example which involves trying to enter the data manually, say from Server Explorer.

Formats tried include all datetime formats (mmddyy, yymmdd, using dashes or slashes, enclosing in single quotes or pound signs).

I would appreciate if someone could please give me an example that I can literally insert without error.

How To Tell When Data Has Been Replicated?

May 1, 2007

Hello,

In our environment (SQL 2005) we have a database that uses Transactional Replication to sync data between two SQL 2005 servers. There is a web app that reads/writes data to the publisher server and the other server (that gets the replicated data) is used by some other internal applications.

At times, there is a need to delete some data from the publisher server...but this can ONLY happen once the data has been successfully replicated to the second server. Is there any way to determine if a row has been replicated successfully?

Changes To Data Not Replicated

Jan 21, 2007

I have an application that uses web-based merge replication. My publisher is SQL 2005 and my subscriber is SQL 2005 Express. I control the replication with RMO code. If I make changes to the data in both databases using SQL Server Management Studio Express, my RMO code correctly syncs the two databases. However if I make changes to the data at the subscription through my application, these changes are not picked up by the replication process, even though the changes are present if you check the tables through Management Studio. What would cause these changes to not be recognized? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Computed Column In A Replicated Table

Apr 10, 2015

I have a strange problem. I have a computed column in a replicated table, the Formula is as follows:

(isnull(hashbytes('SHA2_256',CONVERT([varchar](256),[AccrualReference],(0))),(0))) the column is also Persisted.

This gets around a case sensitivity issue and is used as the Primary Key column, which works well. The problem is that this table is then replicated to another server. On the subscriber the value of this computed field is being returned as 0x00000000 for every row, so this must be the ISNULL function doing its job. But why? The AccrualReference is the true PrimaryKey and is never NULL.

If I remove the computed specification and set the field up as varbinary(64) the value then gets replicated. This then means maintaining a different table schema for in excess of 500 tables.

Adding A Not Null Column To Replicated Table

Apr 23, 2007

Hi,

I'm merge replicating a SQL Server 2005 database (publisher) to SQL Compact databases (subscribers) on mobile devices. I understood that I could add a "not null" column to a replicated table on the server as long as I specified a default value, but it seems this is not possible. I ran the following script on the server database:

ALTER TABLE Activity ADD ActivityRequiresProject bit not null default(0)

which executed OK. When I went to synchronize the db on the mobile device I got the following error:

Alter table only allows columns to be added which can contain null values. The column cannot be added to the table because it does not allow null values.
The SQL statement failed to execute. If this occurred while using merge replication, this is an internal error. If this occurred while using RDA, then the SQL statement is invalid either on the PULL statement or on the SubmitSQL statement. [ SQL statement = alter table "Activity" add "ActivityRequiresProject" bit not NULL constraint "DF__Activity__Activi__4A47DDAE" default ( ( 0 ) ) ]

Does anyone know if this is a valid error? Is is possible to add a not null column with default, and if not how do I update the schema on a replicated database?

Regards,

Greg

Problem Adding NOT NULL Column To Replicated Table

Jan 15, 2003

I'm new to replication and am trying to determine the best approach to add a column (NOT NULL with no DEFAULT) to a replicated table. The only success I have had is if I do the following:

Delete entire Subscription
Delete entire Publication
Add column to table
Create new Publication
Create new Subscription
Run SnapShot

The problem with this approach is that each step affects the entire database and not just the modified table. I think it is inefficient to redo replication for a simple object change. What am I missing? Is there a way to only replicate the changes made to the one table without having to run a SnapShot for the entire publication?
Keep in mind the column must be defined as NOT NULL and cannot have a Default.

Thanks, Dave
