Mapped Names In Security Manager
Jul 21, 1999
Hi,
I am trying to grant users permissions to our database, but when I add the users through a local group, I receive a mapped name of DOMAIN_USERNAME.
We are using standard security, with the SSQL server in a resource domain. I have created a local group with the global group inside it from the accounts domain. This seems usual MS practice to me.
We do not want these long cumbersome login names, but I am slowly worrying that there may perhaps be no way around it. Can't they just login with their normal username?
Any light...
Jack.

I received the following when trying to deploy an 2005 analysis services package over an existing database:
The following system error occurred: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.
We have redeployed this solution several times over the last week and have never encountered this error. The changes that we are deploying are related to partitioning of the measure group fact tables - and are not related to security in any way. Can someone assist?

Hi there.
Sorry 'bout my bad english.
Is there any possibility, to change the current server name from the stuctureview in the Enterprise Manger. I'm registering a lot of online-servers from my customers. The remote servername is fixed of course, but I want to change it local, to explain it a little bit better
(e.g. "W2KSQLSRV" -> "CustomerXY")
Can someone give me a hint, please?
Thanx.

Hello all;
I am trying to form a replication system but at the very beginning i couldn't pass an obstacle.
While trying to create the Replication it says i have to change the user which starts the SQL Agent because the current starter user account is a system account and this will make the replication between servers fail.
"SQL Server Agent on OZN currently uses the system account, which causes the replication between the servers fail. In the following dialog box, specify another account for the service startup account."
I change it in the properties dialog box of the SQL Server Agent. The new account is the one I formed and granted accordingly. But it gives the following error when I try to apply the changes.
" Error 22042: xp_SetSQLSecurity() returned error -2147023564, 'No mapping between account names and security IDs was done' "
I tried many things, searched in the net, changed the owner of the database, applied new accounts, many grants, applied service pack 4, etc...
If anyone helps it will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Our software vendor rep is trying to upgrade MS SQL server 2008 SP4 to 2012 SP1. Get an error message: no mapping between account names and security ADs was done. He says that we get this error message because we have two domain controllers in our network, and one is running on the same windows server that run sql server. Out IT support disagrees to delete the second domain controller, saying it is recommended by Microsoft and he suggests that the problem is in Active directory.

I'm using SQL Server 2012 and was attempting to move the msdb, model, and tempdb databases to a new location and accidentally gave their log files an mdf extension instead of ldf when providing the new pathfilename. After the server wouldn't start I checked my script and noticed my error. I have good backups of my system databases, so I was hoping to start the MSSQLSERVER service in single-user mode (using the -m startup parameter) and then just restore master using sqlcmd.
Unfortunately the service was starting but I couldn't connect via sqlcmd using any of the three protocols (it said the server was not found or not accessible each time). I also tried using the dedicated Admin connection but I got the same error. Then I went into the Templates folder and copied the master, msdb, model, and tempdb templates into the DATA folder and tried to restart SQL Server but still no luck (now the MSSQLSERVER service won't start at all). Is there an easy way to fix this mess without having to reinstall from the setup application?

Hi,
I`m using security manager to grant rights to a group from our domain. Whenever I try to grant the group named LMCS it displays the progress window, but finishes with no logins added, no logins already present and no errors.
I have made a copy of the group (called LMCSTest) , and all the logins (76 in all) are created OK.
Im using SQL 6.5 sp4 / NT 4 sp3.
Has anyone got an ideas on this as it does seem very strange ?
Thanks,
Paul.

How do you stop anyone from the outside world from viewing the report manager?
From typing eg( www.mywebaspreportapp.com/Reports) and directly accessing the report manager?
Is there a security step i missed somewhere?

I have a server that has 20 databases . I have tested with few users with different level of access and all of them were able to connect to the server and also see, select, update , delete from a particular database which is kind of weird because they do not have a user login associated or mapped to that database. I checked and no user is part of any group in AD that would give them permission to connect . I need a query that would find the permission path of a user. I already queried with xp_logininfo but I am not getting any thing.

Hi,
I'm trying to deploy Reporting Services on an Internet-facing web server using a custom security extension (forms authentication). We will be putting Report Manager on the Web Server outside of the firewall, and Report Server on another machine inside the firewall. When testing the solution in a development environment with Report Manager and Report Server on the same box, the solution works fine.
When testing it using the Internet-facing environment described above, it almost works but there seems to be an issue with the authentication cookie that is generated. Here's what happens:
1. User enters credentials on UILogon.aspx and submits form.
2. In the code-behind, LogonUser() is called through a web service proxy and the authentication cookie is returned successfully. The code used here to set the cookie is the same code used in the Forms Authentication sample that ships with RS2005.
3. The user is redirected to Folder.aspx, and the request hangs for a while, and eventually kicks you back out to UILogon.aspx, as if it lost the authentication cookie. When doing a trace on the HTTP header, the cookie is still there.
Is there anything special I need to do to make the Report Server "see" the cookie when I have Report Manager and Report Server on different machines?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Mike

Hi,
I mapped a drive on to my SQL Server box. It points to another server from the same domain. When I try to backup or restore a database, I can't see this mapped drive through my SQL Server. Even if I type the entire path, SQL Server wouldn't take it. I don't have a clue about why it is not working. Can anyone throw some light on this. Your help is grately appreciated.
Thanks,

I created a DTS local package on the SQL Server. It's basically importing a text file into a table in my database. This file resides in a mapped drive (X:) from another server. When I schedule the DTS as a job, it fails. It doesn't execute any of the workflow in the design.
However, when I copy the text file into a drive local to the SQL server (D:), it runs flawlessly.
What I do right now is I have a windows scheduled task that runs a batch file that copies the text file from X: to D: at certain time intervals. Then the job scheduler runs to import it.
What am I missing? How come the job scheduler can't read the file directly from the mapped drive?
Any info would be appreciated. TIA

Hey guys
I am having a problem with a DTS package that pulls from a flat file off a mapped drive. When the package is ran alone, it runs perfectly but the stored proc that I took from an example from the net will not execute the DTS properly and I am unsure as to why it will not do so.
CREATE PROC spExecuteDTS
@Server varchar(255),
@PkgName varchar(255), -- Package Name (Defaults to most recent version)
@ServerPWD varchar(255) = Null,-- Server Password if using SQL Security to load Package (UID is SUSER_NAME())
@IntSecurity bit = 0,-- 0 = SQL Server Security, 1 = Integrated Security
@PkgPWD varchar(255) = ''-- Package Password
AS
SET NOCOUNT ON
/*
Return Values
- 0 Successfull execution of Package
- 1 OLE Error
- 9 Failure of Package
*/
DECLARE @hr int, @ret int, @oPKG int, @Cmd varchar(1000)
-- Create a Pkg Object
EXEC @hr = sp_OACreate 'DTS.Package', @oPKG OUTPUT
IF @hr <> 0
BEGIN
PRINT '*** Create Package object failed'
EXEC sp_displayoaerrorinfo @oPKG, @hr
RETURN 1
END
-- Evaluate Security and Build LoadFromSQLServer Statement
IF @IntSecurity = 0
SET @Cmd = 'LoadFromSQLServer("' + @Server +'", "' + SUSER_SNAME() + '", "' + @ServerPWD + '", 0, "' + @PkgPWD + '", , , "' + @PkgName + '")'
ELSE
SET @Cmd = 'LoadFromSQLServer("' + @Server +'", "", "", 256, "' + @PkgPWD + '", , , "' + @PkgName + '")'
EXEC @hr = sp_OAMethod @oPKG, @Cmd, NULL
IF @hr <> 0
BEGIN
PRINT '*** LoadFromSQLServer failed'
EXEC sp_displayoaerrorinfo @oPKG , @hr
RETURN 1
END
-- Execute Pkg
EXEC @hr = sp_OAMethod @oPKG, 'Execute'
IF @hr <> 0
BEGIN
PRINT '*** Execute failed'
EXEC sp_displayoaerrorinfo @oPKG , @hr
RETURN 1
END
-- Check Pkg Errors
EXEC @ret=spDisplayPkgErrors @oPKG
-- Unitialize the Pkg
EXEC @hr = sp_OAMethod @oPKG, 'UnInitialize'
IF @hr <> 0
BEGIN
PRINT '*** UnInitialize failed'
EXEC sp_displayoaerrorinfo @oPKG , @hr
RETURN 1
END
-- Clean Up
EXEC @hr = sp_OADestroy @oPKG
IF @hr <> 0
BEGIN
EXEC sp_displayoaerrorinfo @oPKG , @hr
RETURN 1
END
RETURN @ret
GO
that is the stored proc that i am using along with a couple error trapping ones but this being the one that does the actual execution. Is there anything i can change about this in order for it to run the DTS properly from the mapped drive?
thank you

I am designing a package to export staging tables into a flat file.The names of the tables will be: TableAStaging_YYYYMM and TableBStaging_YYYYMM. As you can see the names of the tables will be changing each month.
The flat files will have similar naming: C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM and C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM.I want to run the package as an sql job in two steps, one for each table.I need to dynamically pass the table names and file names (together with the path) to the IS package.

As part if a recent requirement I have to export Chinese/Singaporean names in a CSV file. The data in the tables is a NVARCHAR(256).
I am using a FlatFile Connection manager where all the present columns from the table are exported as NVARCHARs. My understanding was that the Chinese/Singaporean names would blend seamlessly with NVARCHARs in place. But, they get garbled when pushed to the CSV.
Here is the connection manager setup
There are a lot of suggestions of fixing this by copying/pasting to a notepad file and changing the formatting... But I cant do that since the file is generated using a schedules SSIS package. How can I tweak the process to fix the issue?

I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how we could find the table names and column names of the tables in our Sql server database at runtime/dynamically given our connection string? Please let me know.
Thanks.

From my workstation (with SQL Server 7 Desktop Edition SP3), I seem unable to restore a database on my Server (SQL Server Standard Edition SP3). I am logged into both machines, and I am an Administrator on both machines. Using either a UNC or Mapped Drive (see below)
RESTORE DATABASE ogAEC FROM ogAECDump WITH REPLACE , RECOVERY , STATS
, MOVE 'AEC_Data' TO 'Og-sqlsrvrC-DriveMSSQL7DataogAEC_Data.MDF'
, MOVE 'AEC_Log' TO 'Og-sqlsrvrC-DriveMSSQL7DataogAEC_Log.LDF'
RESTORE DATABASE ogAEC FROM ogAECDump WITH REPLACE , RECOVERY , STATS
, MOVE 'AEC_Data' TO 'Q:MSSQL7DataogAEC_Data.MDF'
, MOVE 'AEC_Log' TO 'Q:MSSQL7DataogAEC_Log.LDF'
I get
Server: Msg 3156, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
The file 'Og-sqlsrvrC-DriveMSSQL7DataogAEC_Data.MDF' cannot be used by RESTORE. Consider using the WITH MOVE option to identify a valid location for the file.
But I am successful if I run the essentially command locally from the server:
RESTORE DATABASE ogAEC FROM ogAECDump WITH REPLACE , RECOVERY , STATS
, MOVE 'AEC_Data' TO 'C:MSSQL7DataogAEC_Data.MDF'
, MOVE 'AEC_Log' TO 'C:MSSQL7DataogAEC_Log.LDF'
What can I do to be able to restore DBs from my workstation?

Due to a previous (mis)configuration, i need to grant readwrite permission on a share from a MSSQL DB User.The SQL user will launch t-sql queries on demand and they cannot be scheduled.
I've created a credential object in SSMS, configured it with the correct AD user and mapped it to the MSSQL DB user.Now, if i execute a simple t-sql backup:
BACKUP DATABASE [DB] TO DISK = N'IP.ADD.RE.SSshareDB.bak' WITH NOFORMAT, NOINIT, NAME = N'DB-Full Database Backup', SKIP, NOREWIND, NOUNLOAD, STATS = 10
GO
I get an access denied error, monitoring the sqlserv.exe process via procmon, i see that the Sql Server process is not impersonating the AD user configured in the credential, it still try to access using the local machine account .

Hi,all.
I tried to issue:
sp_attach_db pubs,'F:anthonypubs.mdf','F:anthonypubs.ldf'

I got error:
Server: Msg 5105, Level 16, State 4, Line 1
Device activation error. The physical file name 'f:anthonypubs.ldf' may
be incorrect.
Is attaching a database ONLY supported for local servers ??
What about creating database on remote drive? (I have same error msg back)
