Dynamic Mapping For Source/Destination

Aug 8, 2007

Hello,
What I'm trying to accomplish is to have a variable names "SourceTable" and "DestinationTable". So for each SourceTable, the DestinationTable will have the same columns. All I need is to auto-map these columns between source and destination via code?

Is this possible?

Thanks,

Complication - When Mapping Columns To OLEDB Destination In C#

Aug 28, 2007

Hi ,

I have a Package Consisting of the following (tried to portray the flow below)

1) OLE DB Source (Which I set the sql command for in code)

|
/
2) Rowcount Transform (Counts the Source Records)

|
/
3) Derived Column (Adds An AuditJobID ,ExecutionStartDate)

|
/
4) Conditional Split (Splits New and Updated Record - My Implementation of SCD)

/
/ /
5) Rowcount Transform (Counts the New Records) Rowcount Transform (Counts Update Records)

/
/ /
6) OLEDB Destination OLEDB Update Command

I am trying to map the columns in the "OLEDB Destination" with c# ,with the following

IDTSInput90 input = oledbDestination.InputCollection[0];

IDTSVirtualInput90 vInput = input.GetVirtualInput();

As soon as I call the input.GetVirtualInput(); method I get a com exception ,Seem that I am missing a

VirtualInputColumnCollection on the component ,but can't seem to figure out why.

When I drop the all the other components and only keep the OLEDb Source and OLEDB Destination with a flow between them , the call to input.GetVirtualInput() doe not fail with a com exception and I can mapping normally

I really need some guidance on the above.

Cedric

Integration Services :: SSIS 2008 R2 - Add Columns To Existing Mapping With Destination DB Table

Sep 8, 2015

The only way to add a new column to an existing mapping that I know is to go to advanced editor and refresh. This however keeps only the default mapping (where the field names match), the rest is wiped out, so need to restore the mapping manually after that. Risky and annoying at the same time. Is there any alternative?

DB Design :: Copy Specific Columns For Source To Destination

Nov 4, 2015

I am trying to Import data into SQL server 2008 using management studio.  The source data is an Access dbase.  I am trying to do this with queries as the tables do not match but I do need to copy specific columns for the source to the destination. Any brief example selecting a column from the source table, and just entering a dummy value for other columns(other column of data for destination table does not exist in source table).

For the example

Source access dbase, just two columns but no primary key, T2dbase, Employee

New table.

First Name, Description
 Tom          , manager

Destination dbase SQLServer (T1dbase,Employee table), note 4 columns
Primary key NameID, FirstName nvarchar (20), LastName nvarchar (20), Description nvarchar(20)

SSIS Script Source Destination Insert Null Columns

Dec 1, 2006

Hi I have an SSIS package that retrieves table data from a database using an OLE DB source component.

This then passes the rows of data to a script destination component.

Within this script my code takes the row data and inserts it into the database (amongst other things).

However I have noticed that if any of the Row columns contain nulls then the component falls over with errors when run like so:

[Back Up Prize Banks [2875]] Error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Parameterized Query '(@PASId int,@ScriptName nvarchar(17),@LastModified datetime,@Pri' expects parameter @RegenerateXML, which was not supplied. at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.HandleUserException(Exception e) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.ProcessInput(Int32 inputID, PipelineBuffer buffer) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostProcessInput(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Int32 inputID, IDTSBuffer90 pDTSBuffer, IntPtr bufferWirePacket)

I have solved the problem by checking the column contents before inserting it as follows:

Before:
Command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@RegenerateXML", Row.RegenerateXML)

After:
If (Row.RegenerateXML_IsNull()) Then
Command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@RegenerateXML",System.DBNull.Value)
Else
Command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@RegenerateXML", Row.RegenerateXML)
End If

Which is great but it does turn 1 line into 5 lines. I have 20 parameters which takes up 20 lines of code which will now be 20 x 5 = 100 lines of code.

My question is :

Is there a better way to write this code without having to take up so many lines?

Thanks

Matt.

SSIS Programmaing - How To Map Flatfile Source Columns To SQL Server Destination?

Hi,

I am new to SSIS programming and trying to export data from a flatfile source to SQL server destination table dynamically. I need to get the table schema info (column length, data type etc.) from SQL server table and then map the source columns from flatfile to destination table columns.

I am referring to one of the programming samples from Microsoft and another excellent article by Moim Hossain. Can someone help me understand how to map the Source columns to destination table columns depending on table schema? Please help.

SSIS Tries To Insert NULL Value Into A Destination Column Ignored In The Mapping.

Jan 12, 2008

Hello everyone,

I am having a little problem with a simple package and I do not know if this is a known issue or that I am missing something.

I have a data flow task, a simple one, with an oledb source pulling data, using a select statement, from a sql server 2005 instance, and an ole db destination pointing to a table in a sql server 2000 instance. Both intances are standard edition. The table in the destination has a column which allow null values and has also a default constraint (getdate()), and this column is not present in the source. When I map the columns in the destination, I leave this column as "ignore", not being mapped to any column from the source. The problem is that when I execute the task, SSIS is trying to insert NULL value into this column, so the package fail with the error "can not insert NULL value into column myColumn". I wonder why is it trying to insert NULL value if the column is not mapped to any column from the source.

Is this a known issue or I am nissing something in the settings?

If the destination table has rowversion or identity columns, there is no problem ar all. I ignore those columns in the mapping and SQL Server feeds them as expected.

Thanks in advance,
Alejandro Mesa

SSIS - Excel Destination Column Mapping Error

I have created a package which transfers data from a SQL server source to an Excel Destination. The DataFlow Task works fine , if i pre-define the column names in the Excel Destination... But i run into an error when i give the blank excel sheet as my destination. I am unable to map any columns

A sample example is as shown above .. In the column mappings field only one column in the Excel shows up for mapping and eventually throws the error "[Excel Destination [42]] Error: The number of columns is incorrect. "

How do we proceed in this case , where in we do not want to give pre-defined coulmn names in the Excel Destination sheet.

SSIS SQL OLE DB Source - SQL Command Vs Mapping

Oct 10, 2007

I created a Stored Proc to compute all the data I need to export to a CSV file.
I use the provider MS OLE DB Provider for SQL Server.
It's a very simple package with a single Data Flow Task.
This flow task is using an OLE DB Source to call a simple SQL Command : Exec MyStoredProc.
There are no params.

This Stored Proc is using table variables to compute the data.
It takes about 10 seconds to return anything.
The problem is that the mapping doesn't work with the OLE DB Source.
There are no fields at all shown in the mapping screen.

I tried to replace the Stored Proc by a version which only returns fields and no data.
Then the mapping would work just fine.
The package is then compiling and working fine.
But everytime I put back the real stored proc, even without changing the SQL Command, the SSIS execution breaks at execution.
It keeps saying :

"Error: 0xC0202005 at Data Flow Task, OLE DB Source [477]: Column "RecordType" cannot be found at the datasource."

My guess is that SSIS doesn't wait the 10 secs and thinks the Stored Proc is not returning anything.
What can I do to make this work ?

Thanks,

Vincent

Problem With Excel Source To OLEDB Mapping

Nov 26, 2007

Hi,

I have an Excel source, which I have hooked up to a Data Conversion task. I have defined "Output Aliases" for all my columns in the Data Conversion task.

However, when I try to map the columns from the Data Conversion task to the table columns, there is a list of column names, which do not correspond to the names I defined as "Output Aliases."

For example, one of the Output Aliases is "col1." However, when I go to map it, the column name is not "col1" but "My Excel file.col1".

Why is this happening? I have not had this problem before.

Mapping Package Variables To A SQL Query In An OLEDB Source Component

Nov 2, 2006

Learning how to use SSIS...

I have a data flow that uses an OLEDB Source Component to read data from a table. The data access mode is SQL Command. The SQL Command is:

select lpartid, iCallNum, sql_uid_stamp
from call where sql_uid_stamp not in (select sql_uid_stamp from import_callcompare)

I wanted to add additional clauses to the where clause.

The problem is that I want to add to this SQL Command the ability to have it use a package variable that at the time of the package execution uses the variable value.

The package variable is called [User::Date_BeginningYesterday]

select lpartid, iCallNum, sql_uid_stamp
from call where sql_uid_stamp not in (select sql_uid_stamp from import_callcompare) and record_modified < [User::Date_BeginningYesterday]

I have looked at various forum message and been through the BOL but seem to missing something to make this work properly.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms139904.aspx

The article, is the closest I have (what I belive) come to finding a solution. I am sure the solution is so easy that it is staring me in the face and I just don't see it. Thank you for your assistance.

Mapping Columns To Rows

Mar 13, 2008

Hi
I have 2 tables defined as follows:
Table1 = uid, Field1, Field2, Field3 ... Fieldn, FormUID
Table2 = FormUID, Label, Position
When I query Table1 I would like to replace the column name of Field1...Fieldn with the Label from Table2 where the Position = n value of Field lable
e.g. lets say Table2 contains the following
1, customerName, 1
1, customerTitle, 2
1, customerDOB, 3
and Table1 might contain
1, Paul Jones, Mr, 21/09/1987, 1
when I query Table1 I would get
uid = 1, Field1 = Paul Jones, Field2 = Mr, Field3 = 21/09/1987
what I would like to get is
uid = 1, customerName = Paul Jones, customerTitle = Mr, customerDOB = 21/09/1987
I have up to 20 Fieldn columns so need to do this for all columns even if there is no matching columns.
any help would be great

Mapping Table Columns

Apr 18, 2008

Hi Guys

I have a table that contains codes for commodities. Some of the codes in this table have changed and some of them have not.So now i want to design a solution that enable me to map the new codes in a different mapping table to the old ones in the other table.I also want to retain the old codes because most of the archived data used the old codes.

Where there is no new code, the current code is being retained. How do i design my table and queries so that i can use the new codes as if i was using the old code.I want to select products with a certain code but using the new code and mapping to the old codes or vice versa.

The structure of the data is like this.
Code Name
AA AA
AL Aluminium
ALM ALM
ALT Aluminium in tonnes
AR AR
AUD Australian Dollars
AUJPY AUJPY
CAQ CAQ
CC CC
CCF CCF
CER Carbon Emmission Reduction

The mapping table is like this:
XAA AA
XAL AL
XMA ALM
XAL ALT
XAR AR

SSIS Mapping Columns From Flat Files

I had to use use ssis 2005 in a short project recently & had littletime to work it out. I was importing a whole bunch of flat files intoSQL Server tables with many derived columns and transformations inbetween. It seems to automatically map columns from the flat file to columns inthe sql table where the names of the columns are equal. But can italso do it automatically on position, so flat file column 1 goes tosql table colum 1, etc, etc? In each flat file I had to manually clickand drag the columns across to map them which took a very long time asthere were hundreds of columns in some tables! Thanks.

Odd Problem Programatically Mapping Input Columns

Dec 14, 2007

I have set up a script task in one of my packages that I have set up to modify another package right before running it. This package is nothing more than a data flow task that transfers rows via an sql command from one table into another. The strange thing is I have gotten it to work with some tables but not with others. T

he script bombs out in the loop where i map all of the columns found below, where i use MapInputColumn with the error HRESULT: 0xC0010009 On Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper.IDTSExternalMetadataColumnCollection90.get_Item(Object Index)

The thing is this happens after looping roughly 55 times but there are still about 100 columns that it needs to loop through still.

Code Block

Dim input As IDTSInput90 = data_destination.InputCollection(0)
Dim virtual_input As IDTSVirtualInput90 = input.GetVirtualInput
Dim input_column As IDTSInputColumn90
Dim virtual_column As IDTSVirtualInputColumn90

' Iterate through the virtual input column collection and map field names
For Each virtual_column In virtual_input.VirtualInputColumnCollection
input_column = inst_data_destination.SetUsageType(input.ID, virtual_input, virtual_column.LineageID, DTSUsageType.UT_READONLY)

inst_data_destination.MapInputColumn(input.ID, input_column.ID, input.ExternalMetadataColumnCollection.FindObjectByID(virtual_column.Name).ID)
Next

Just for kicks i removed the mapping portion of the code and left in the SetUsageType to see if it would update the available input columns in the destination. The script will then finish successfully but still only the 55 or so fields out of 155 are available in the input. So i then stepped through the script with the mapping portion still disabled and after it loops successfully, i call reinitialize meta data and it produces an error in the input_column variable: HRESULT: 0xC0047041.

I find it odd that this still reports to me that the script finished successfully and I also find it odd that this works fine on two other tables I've tested but not this one. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Remote Source And Destination Performance

Jan 7, 2007

Given the following scenario, what kind of performance should be expected in transferring about half a million rows? We are seeing about a 9 minute execution time. Is this reasonable for about 460,000 records moving from source to target, with 3 inner joins from the source?

Source: Server A.OLTPDB

Target: ServerA.DataMartDB

Server A is running SQL Server 2000. SSIS is running on a different machine, Server B.

The reason for this is that we are distributing the SSIS package for use with a BI product built on SSAS 2005 and the requirements are such that the client could very well have the source OLTP database on a different physical machine than the data mart.

My understanding is therefore that:

1. SSIS will do all of the heavy lifting on Server B.

2. Even though OLTPDB and DataMartDB are on the same server, it is expensive for Server B to pull the records from Server A and then send them back to Server B, but with SSIS being on a different machine, this is inevitable.

3. In the OLE DB Source Adapter, specifying table or view has the effect of an OPEN QUERY command, whereas a SQL command with straight SQL will be executed on Server B and the former would be somewhat more performant.

Can you guys validate/dispel these assumptions?

TIA,

Rick

Source And Destination Table Equality

Feb 20, 2006

I have searched the SSIS forum for an answer to my question, and I think I have found my answer but what i have read does not come out directly and answer my question.

I am attempting to create an SSIS package that imports data from a Visual Foxpro table into a SQL Server table. From what I have read, the source and destination tables must match column for column. Is this correct? My SQL Server table has a few more columns in it. However, i consistently get "Cannot create connector. The destination component does not have any available inputs...blah".

From what i have read, it sound like the reasoning is that my source and destination tables do not match.

Is this correct, or am i barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks in advance...

Any better approach to log INVALID data and resume code to process next record instead of terminating.

Transferring Data From Read-only Source To Destination.

Oct 17, 2006

Hi,

I have read only permission in the source (OLTP) database. The source database is running in SQL Server 2000 and the size is more than 200 GB. I need to pull data from source and load target which is running in SQL server 2005.

Following are the objectives I want to achieve.

Data should be loaded on incremental basis.

Whatever changes take place (Update/Delete) in source, that should be replicated to already uploaded data.

Here I want to mention that, the source database does not have any identification key or timestamp column like Updated_Date by which I can filter the data which are recently inserted or updated into the source and upload the same. The source does not maintain any history data also. So I do not have any track of deleted record also.

I don€™t have any scope to change the schema in the source. In this scenario can anybody suggest me the best approach to achieve the above mentioned objectives?

Can I retrieve only the recent updated or inserted date form transaction log back up. Can log shipping solve the give the solution?

One more question. Say I have a table and I am exporting/importing all the data from/to my target table using SSIS or DTS. In this scenario does using query or using directly the table affects the performance?
