Matching Strings In Different Tables Of Same Database

I have a situation where I want to pull strings from one table of a SQL 2000
database and find matches for it in other tables of the same database and
have those values returned. i.e. In one table I have prospects and I want
to match their names to a table that stores the names of prospects turned
into customers. I want to write a query that looks through every entry and
returns a match for each corresponding value (from prospects to customers).
So if "Smith" is found in prospects I want SQL to return "Smith" in
customers with full contact info.
Any pointers on getting started on this is greatly appreciated. Or if you
could just point me to a reference. Obviously, I need to do some kind of
parsing. I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

I want to know that how can i write a stored procedure that takes an input param, i.e., a string and returns the count of the matching words between the input parameter and the value of a column in a table. e.g. I have a table Person with a column address. now my stored procedure matches and counts the number of words that are common between the address of the person and the input param string. I am looking forward for any help in this matter. I am using Sql server 2005.

Will the fuzzy grouping task match a null value to an empty string (or spaces)? I've got 5 columns I'm matching on, and one of them may be null for certain rows but an empty string for others. Given the 4 other columns may match, will this difference stop similar columns being grouped together?
(Someone's modified my grouped data since it was deduped, which takes a while, and I'm hoping for a quick answer on this).

I need to generate a script where it should check the tables of a database from one server to another server(If server 1 database XYZ has 10 tables then server 2 database XYZshould match 10 tables). If the tables matches then truncate tables data and insert the data from one server 1 database XYZ to server 2 database XYZ. If tables does not matches, then it should check and create that tables which are not matching.

Got a little problem. have 2 matching tables on different servers with the EXACT same column layout and data (the tables are being replicated with MSSQL7) and one table is 200MB while the other is 2000MB. I'm running MSSQL7 SP2. Any ideas???

Hi,
I am new to SQL and these forums, and have a quick simple question.
I am trying to view the records that do not match in 2 tables. I have tried a few different ways but keep getting results in the hundreds of thousands and the table only has 36 thousand reocrds.
Here is an example of what the two tables contain.
Table 1
customer_no eaddress_no name address (36000 records)
Table2
customer_no eaddress_no email (17000 records)
I need to find out which customers are not in table 2 by linking the eaddress_no numbers.
This is one of the scripts i ran that gives me the large results with a ton of dups:

FROM T_EADDRESS inner JOIN
T_CUST_LOGIN ON T_EADDRESS.eaddress_no
!= T_CUST_LOGIN.eaddress_no

I have a temperature table with a column that shows the how many hours old a newborn was when his/her temperature was taken.
Example lets say once per hour.
I want to join to a table called Weight that records the newborns weight at any given time.
Example lets say 3x during the day.
1 @ 8:45am
2 @ 11:15am
3 @ 4:30pm
I want to figure out which weight recording is the closest to a given temperature recording and return that one row.

Let's say I have a list of IDs called EntryID and each EntryID can belong to ONE table out of a group of six, what is the best way to get a listing of these?
For example:
select r.*
from #Reminders r
left join mytable1 mt1 on (r.EntryID = mt1.EntryID)
left join mytable2 mt2 on (r.EntryID = mt2.EntryID)
left join mytable3 mt3 on (r.EntryID = mt3.EntryID)
left join mytable4 mt4 on (r.EntryID = mt4.EntryID)
As you can see, #Reminders has one field called EntryID (and many rows).
In my example above, only ONE of those tables will actually be able to join but I have no idea which one has the matching EntryID.
What is the best way for me to do this? I want to grab "ReportStatus" from the corresponding "mytable"... (each "mytable" has a ReportStatus column)

Two tables:
table #1 = timestamp, servername1(never changes), value(int)
Table #2 = timestamp, servername2(never changes), value(int)
What I need to do is merge the two tables into a single table based on the matching timestamp:
timestamp, servername1, servername2 as headers then values under
"1/1/1-1:10:1" , "10" , "10" - as an example
"1/1/1-1:20:1" , "20" , "21" - as an example
"1/1/1-1:30:1" , "1" , "5" - as an example
Powershell or MSSQL 2008 queries work.
I have a powershell script atm that can create the table and then throw it back into the database but its very slow because of the amount of records.
The table is for some performance stat collection app.
Table #1 records a timestamp, the servername (which is the same over and over in the table) and the value of the performance object.
Table #2 is the same collection but for a different server.
The layout in the database is terrible but this is what I get to work with.

Hi All
I have a strange request that might not be possible based on the laws of relational databases but I thought I'd give it a try.
I have three tables which for simplicity I will call A, B and C. Table A contains my master records, Table B contains user details and the final table contains some extra data
In my initial search when joining A and B, I return 100 records. I then need to search in table C for these 100 records based on a criteria. the expected result should return all 100 rows for the ones that match and also the ones that do not match. The problem is that in Table C, not all the 100 IDs exist, so there will not be a corresponding record. Unfortunately, our users still want to see all 100 records in the output. Is this possible

I have a whole bunch of bit fields in an SQL data base, which makes it a little messy to report on.
I thought a nice idea would be to assigne a text string/null value to each bit field and concatenate all of them into a result.
This is the basic logic goes soemthing like this:
select case new_accountant = 1 then 'acct/' end +
case new_advisor = 1 then 'adv/' end +
case new_attorney = 1 then 'atty/' end as String
from new_database
The output would be
Null, acct/, adv/, atty, acct/adv/, acct/atty/... acct/adv/atty/
So far, nothing I have tried has worked.
Any ideas?

My question is, are the user id and password optional when creating a database connection string? I've created an asp page without including them, but in my aspx page (which is basically supposed to do the exact same thing as the asp page), I'm receiving the following error:

I have a MySql Database i need to extract data from based on matching info in a local SQL Server database,

Hello guys, I am a hobbyist programmer and now that I have started asp.net, I was wondering about the correct way to enter data into a table. For example, i have a table called players with a field called status. What should I code the status as? "Active" or "Retired" or 1 and 0? I thought using 1 and 0 would be better as far as database size, but it is pretty difficult to understand how to modify the gridview. I come from PHP and everything is a lot more accesible there as far as modification of output. Thanks in advance!

I'm using connection strings to SQL Server Express that have the form
"DataSource= .SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="(path to my development directory)CurrentDevelopmentDB.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True"
I'm assuming this works because the DB is already there, created "manually".
How might I build a connection string for a SQLCommand for a "Create DataBase" query?
I'm confused about what the AttachDbFileName would be, or if there would be another variable in its place, since there's no file yet.
Any guidance on this would be appreciated.

In order to minimize the number of connection strings I have to use toaccess different databases on the same Sql Server, I was consideringstoring all stored procedures in just one database. I want to do thisbecause connection pooling in my application - ASP.NET is based onthis connection string. So if I need to access 6 different databaseson one sql server & set 6 different connection strings, I end upcreating 6 different connection pools.Other than it might create more management work for the DBA, are thereany performance implications with implementing this scheme? I'm working on an ASP.Net project where I want to test code on a localmachine using a local database as a back-end, and then export it tothe production machine where it uses the hosting provider's SQL Serverdatabase on the back-end. Is there a way to export tables from oneSQL Server database to another in such a way that if a table alreadyexists in the destination database, it will be updated to reflect thechanges to the local table, without existing data in the destinationtable being lost? e.g. suppose I change some tables in my localdatabase by adding new fields. Can I "export" these changes to thedestination database so that the new fields will be added to thedestination tables (and filled in with default values), without losingdata in the destination tables?If I run the DTS Import/Export Wizard that comes with SQL Server andchoose "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the source database" and choosethe tables I want to copy, there is apparently no option *not* to copythe data, and since I don't want to copy the data, that choice doesn'twork. If instead of "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the sourcedatabase", I choose "Copy objects and data between SQL Serverdatabases", then on the following options I can uncheck the "CopyData" box to prevent data being copied. But for the "CreateDestination Objects" choices, I have to uncheck "Drop destinationobjects first" since I don't want to lose the existing data. I am new to SSIS. I have been struggling with this for the past one week. I have a weird task. I need to import several tables from one database to a different server with a new database name. We need to do this at the end of every year. The main problem here is that the number of tables varies every year. You may not have all the tables as last year or may have more tables. So I need to create a dynamic task that takes care of this every year without changing the package.
I have performed the following tasks **
1. Create a new dynamic database. ( I have used Execute SQL Task to do this) 2. Copy all the table structures ( I have used Execute SQL Task to do this)
3. Import Data. This is the main problem. I was trying to create a dynamic connection string with variables as suggested in several forums but I finally came to know that this cannot be done if the table structures are different as the metadata cannot be refreshed at runtime.
4. The final step to create a process to validate the data (the count from each table for both source and destination. I think this can be done with Sql task.
What is the best method to do this? My DBA does not like “Transfer SQL Objects Task” or “transfer Database Task”. I would like to create this as a dynamic process.

In SSMS, I connect Object Explorer to a partially contained database using a contained user login with password. This user has a database role of dbdatareader. When I try to expand the Tables in the database, I get the error:
The SELECT permission was denied on the object 'extended_properties', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229)
Is there a way to set permissions for the contained user so that this could be done?

I'm using SQL Server Management Studio Express and I'm trying to figure out how to copy a table(s) from my local database to my web hosting database. I know how to do it in 2000, but it's completely different now. Is this feature not allowed on SSMSE? If so, then how do I deploy database tables to a web host?Also, how do you add local database(s) to SSMSE? I tried to use 'attach database' in SSMSE and it wouldn't allow me to navigate to My Documents folder where the database resides. Thanks...

I am fairly new to VS 2005 and SQL Server CE. I have developed a Desktop Windows application using VB 2005 and the SQL Compact Edition Database. This application will sell to users via web download.
When they download a service patch, or updated version, I wish for them to retain the data in their present database. In other words, fill the new database with the old data. The new table structures will remain intact except for added columns at the end.
Question is how to save the old data and update the new database with it. Is there an easy way to do this, or do I need to write a module to save a database copy, and update the new database with content at install time?

hi,
I have a access database. In this database there are 10 tables and this tables are related to each other.
I want to move these tables to another database according to a field in XYZ table (vertical fragmentation).
for example there is name coloumn in the XYZ table and I want to take only joe lines and other tables related to that from database A and move it to database B
how can I do this?

I have two Databases with the same name that reside in different servers. The two servers are linked servers. Each database consists of 5 Tables. The tables have identical names in each database.
The database in ServerA has 5 tables with data, the database in ServerB also has 5 tables with the same schema as ServerA, however the 5 identical tables in ServerB contain no data.
I need to populate the 5 tables in ServerB with the Data from the 5 tables in ServerA.
What SQL code or script can i use to populate the 5 tables in ServerB
Below are the names of the 5 tables:
TABLE1: [ServerB].[ProdDB].dbo.[Orders]
TABLE2: [ServerB].[ProdDB].dbo.[Sales]
TABLE3: [ServerB].[ProdDB].dbo.[Employee]
TABLE4: [ServerB].[ProdDB].dbo.[Customer]
TABLE5: [ServerB].[ProdDB].dbo.[Region]
Does any one have a script that could help me with this task. Thanks
