How To Deal With Image Data Type Within Stored Procedure When Using SQL2000?

Dec 5, 2007

Hi,
Does anyone know how to deal with image data type within stored procedure when using SQL2000?
I have a table and there is an image data type column. In this table I need to make a copy of one row within a table through a SP /it means to retrieve the whole row within SP,  change another columns data (but, that the image is not modified) / and save the modified row back to the same table.
Problem is, that within SP is not alowed to use local varaibles of image data type. Does anyone know a solution for this? Please.
Thank you.

Converting A Data Type Double To A Type Float Using A Data Adapter &&amp; SSCE 3.5

Feb 13, 2008

Hi,

I can populate a dataTable with type double (C#) of say '1055.01' however when I save these to the CE3.5 database using a float(CE3.5) I lose the decimal portion. The 'offending' code is:

this.court0TableAdapter1.Update(this.mycourtsDataSet1.Court0);

this.mycourtsDataSet1.AcceptChanges();

this.court0TableAdapter1.Fill(this.mycourtsDataSet1.Court0);

This did not happen with VS2005/CE3.01.

I have tried changing all references to decimal (or money in CE3.5) without luck.

I'm beginning to think that string may be the way to go!!!!!!!

Can someone shed some light on my problem.

Thanks,

Later:

It's necessary to update the datatable adapter as the 3.01 and 3.5 CE are not compatible.

COnverting Numeric Data Type (Oracle) To Date Data Type Using SSIS

Mar 7, 2007

We have some columns in a table where the date is stored as 19980101 (YYYYMMDD). The data type for this column is NUMBER(8) in Oracle.

I need to copy rows from Oracle to SQL Server using SSIS. I used the Data Conversion transformation editor to change it to DT_DATE, but the rows are not being inserted to the destination.

On Error, If I fail the component, then the error is :

There was an error with input column "ORDER_DATE_CONV" (1191) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (29). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".

Convert Text Data Type To Smalldatetime Data Type

Oct 9, 2007

I have a field that is currently stored as the data type nvarchar(10), and all of the data in this field is in the format mm/dd/yyyy or NULL. I want to convert this field to the smalldatetime data type. Is this possible?
I've tried to use cast in the following way, (rsbirthday is the field name, panelists is the table), but to no avail.

SELECT rsbirthday CAST(rsbirthday AS smalldatetime)

FROM panelists

the error returned is "incorrect syntax near 'rsbirthday'.

I'm rather new to all things SQL, so I only have the vaguest idea of what I'm actually doing.

Thanks for the help!

Bulk Insert Task Failing On Data Type Conversion For A Destination Column Of Type Bit

Jul 6, 2006

I am trying to use the Bulk Insert Task to load from a csv file. My final column is a bit that is nullable. My file is an ID column that is int, a date column that is mm/dd/yyy, then 20 columns that are real, and a final column that is bit. I've tried various combinations of codepage and datafiletype on my task component. When I have RAW with Char, I get the error included below. If I change to RAW/Native or codepage 1252, I don't have an issue with the bit; however, errors start generating on the ID and date columns.

I have tried various data type settings on my flat file connection, too. I have tried DT_BOOL and the integer datatypes. Nothing seems to work.

I hope someone can help me work through this.

Thanks in advance,

The Conversion Of Char Data Type To Smalldatetime Data Type Resulted In An Out-of-range Smalldatetime Value

Mar 30, 2007

I am using Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Express 2005. The database was converted from MS Access 2003 to SQL Express by using the upsize wizard.

I would like to store the current date & time in a column in a table. This column is a smalldatetime column called 'lastlogin'.

The code I'm using is:

Dim sqlcommand As New SqlCommand _

("UPDATE tableXYZ SET Loggedin = 'True', LastLogin = GetDate() WHERE employeeID = '" & intEmployeeID.ToString & "'", conn)

Try

conn.Open()

sqlcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()

conn.Close()

Catch ex As Exception

MessageBox.Show(ex.Message)

End Try

This code works fine on my local machine and local SQL server. However at the client side this code results in the error as mentioned in the subject of this thread. I first used 'datetime.now' instead of 'getdate()', but that caused the same error. Then I changed the code to 'getdate()', but the error still remains.

The server at the client is running Windows Server 2000 UK . My local machiine is running WIndows XP Dutch.

Maybe the conversion from Dutch to UK has something to do with it. But this should be solved by using the 'Getdate()' function..... ?

Connection Type Limitations When Using XML Data Type In SQL Task

Jul 23, 2007

I'm trying to use the SSIS Execute SQL Task to pull XML from a SQL 2005 database table. The SQL is of the following form:

SELECT
(

SELECT
MT.MessageId 'MessageId',
MT.MessageType 'MessageType',
FROM MessageTable MT
ORDER BY MT.messageid desc
FOR XML PATH('MessageStatus'), TYPE

)
FOR XML PATH('Report'), TYPE

For some reason I can only get this query to work if I use an ADO.NET connection type. If I try to use something like the OLEDB connection I get the following error:

<ROOT><?MSSQLError HResult="0x80004005" Source="Microsoft XML Extensions to SQL Server" Description="No description provided"?></ROOT>

Can anyone tell me why the SELECT ... FOR XML PATH... seems only to work with ADO.NET connections?

Thanks

Retrieving Data From SQL2000

I am trying to retrieve data that has been inserted into the database but only half the text is being displayed.
The field is varchar(8000)

In the Enterprise Manager I can view the data, then I copy and paste it into MS Word and everything is there.
851 Characters with spaces.

However, when I enter the SQL code into SQL Query Analyzer only half the text shows, about 257 characters are displayed with spaces.

When I display the information on the webpage only half the text is displayed (running IIS/PHP 5)

I don't know why this is doing this and not sure what I can do to display the full text.

Please help.

Oct 21, 2005

Hi,I am very, very new to SQL, so be patient.On a W2K3-server runs SQL2000 (Sp3a). I have a database in MSAccess (2003) and want to importthe data with the wizard. All went well and I got the whole database in SQL.Now I am back in VS.net and want to create a SQLAdapter and when doing that I got the warning:UPDATE and DELETE statement. Could not determin which columns uniquely identify the rows for "<Table>".The structure of "<Table>" in MSAccess was:Id (auto) as primary keyField1 (text,50)Field2 (text,50)That's all.The structure of the SQL-table after importing-Wizard:Id (int, Not Null)Field1 (nvarchar(50),Null)Field2 (nvarchar(50),Null)Why cannot SQL recognise this primary key ?Regards, Ger.

Data Files Not Located On SQL2000 Server

May 6, 2002

My company recently purchase a NetApp FS870 and we want to move the SQL data files for out production DB. The NetApp is a NAS. Without loggining in to the SQL Server and establishing a drive mapping.

Does anyone know how to connect SQL2K to the remote machine?

We would prefer to use UNC naming to access the share, as leaving servers logged in and open with a mapped drive is a huge secutrity hole, and presents a reliability issue too.

Thanks
Greg

Copying / Moving Data From SQL2005 To SQL2000

Oct 22, 2007

Hi
I have a (possibly) common position where half of our IT department is SQL 2005 and the rest is SQL2000. For myself, having to work in a SQL2000 environment and needing data from a SQL2005 Cluster I came up with this solution.
Also, to alert me when the process starts and completes since it is part of a scheduled process, I have it do a RAISERROR with logging to record entry and exit times. In addition, this runs out a series of PRINT statements that lets the operator know what table is currently being worked on.

Of course, any suggestions for speeding this up would be helpful!

What I have found that works for getting data (albeit slow) from SQL 2005 down to SQL 2000 is to script a fairly simple copy process -

-- it is actually pretty easy to follow if you just read the code......

-- first, we find all the views which are present, so they can be ignored when copying the raw data

CREATE TABLE #VIEWS (TABLE_NAME NVARCHAR (255) )

INSERT #VIEWS
SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM
OPENDATASOURCE(
'SQLOLEDB',
Data Source=SQL2005server;User ID=trust_me;Password=i_know_what_i_am_doing' )
.SQL_SIS_SYSTEM.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.VIEWS

-- now, we get the actual tables with data
CREATE TABLE #TEMP (TBL_SCHEMA VARCHAR (12), TBL_NAME VARCHAR (255), RECCNT INT )

INSERT #TEMP
SELECT TABLE_SCHEMA , TABLE_NAME FROM
OPENDATASOURCE( 'SQLOLEDB', 'Data Source=SQL2005server;User ID=trust_me;Password=i_know_what_i_am_doing' )
.SQL_SIS_SYSTEM.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES
WHERE TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE'
AND TABLE_NAME NOT IN (SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM #VIEWS)

-- then, we start copying tables over - now we tag the ones which are populated with at least 1 row.
-- the first cursor loop gets all table names, the second will find row counts of source tables.
-- this segment uses (ugh) cursor to loop through and gather all of the data. This cursor is at the table name level - not
-- processing anything, and is used only to find tables which have a rowcount > 0
-- believe it or not, the cursors run pretty darn quickly since they arnet doing any calculations - just finding
-- tables with row counts > 0

Fast Uploading Data From Client To SQL2000 Database

Mar 4, 2005

Does anyone know how to upload (bulk) data from a client (written in Excel VBA) to a remote SQL2000 database? Of coarse I tried "INSERT INTO" and rst.addnew but I noticed this is much, much slower as downloading from the same remote database.

Thanks.

VB (5or6) Does Something Wierd With Image Data While Saving To Sql2000

Apr 27, 2006

Vb stores an image (bitmap/jpg) in a SQL2000 image field. For somereason it doubles the size by adding 00 for each byte. But sometimes itdoesn't add 00 (0000.0000) but 01 or 20 or ?? and also the byte thatshould be transferd is changed...So SQLImageData = Imagebyte + 00and sometimesSQLImageData = CHANGEDImagebyte + xx.Some example data: (hex notation):A1 => A1 0003 => 03 00-----------91 => 18 2083 => 92 018C => 52 01Could anybody give me an explanation, because I need to know what ishappening, so I can remove te extra bytes added......I have already a image when I remove the extra bytes, but with somewrong data (on the place where things like 8C => 52 01 happen)....Thx,Geronimo

Table Structure And Data Transfer From SQL2000 To Access (.mdb)

Aug 8, 2006

Hello. I want to ask about the possibility of copying both a tablestructure and it's contents from aSQL server table to a table within MS access. The problem cannot besolve with a permanent table structure at the target location.The names of the columns are essentially data with the application andso are subject to change. I am targeting a solution using SQL QueryManager.The approach I have tried (with failure) isSELECT *INTO <linkedserver table>FROM <local table>This should create and copy. However, I am not sure if this isachievable with this approach.Refer to the dialogue;-------------------------------------------------------USE MASTERGOEXEC sp_addlinkedserver@SERVER = 'Freddie',@PROVIDER = 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',@SRVPRODUCT = 'OLE DB Provider for Jet',@DATASRC = 'C: empHMIS_Recipe.mdb'-- I am not sure if this is requiredEXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'Freddie', false, 'sa', 'Admin', NULLSELECT * FROM Freddie...FRED -- This is OKSELECT * INTO #Temp FROM Freddie...FRED -- This is OK-- This fails - Refer errorSELECT * INTO Freddie.FRED65from #tempServer: Msg 2760, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Specified owner name 'Freddie' either does not exist or you do not havepermission to use it.-- This also fails and I thought reflected the above select with naming- Refer errorSELECT * INTO Freddie...FRED65from #tempServer: Msg 117, Level 15, State 1, Line 2The object name 'Freddie...' contains more than the maximum number ofprefixes. The maximum is 2.EXEC sp_dropserver 'Freddie',@droplogins = 'droplogins'------------------------------------------------------------Thank you.Regards JC...

SQL2005 Equivalent Of The Data Import Task In SQL2000

Jun 18, 2006

I had to upgrade to SQL2005 when my customer did so. Everything went OK until I had to load additional data to the datamart. The SQL2000 task to load data from flat text files was straight forward and literally took me seconds tyo set up and execute and has never given me problems. I have now spent 3 days straight trying to do the same in SQL2005 going in ever wider circles. I have got SSIS up and going, I saved a dtsx package that won't run without a multitude of errors ranging from truncation errors (which I tried to avoid by meticulously ensuring all field definitions on the import and export side are defined and correct) to errors relating to not being able to connect to the database I am working on or of not having the right security access. I am at my wits end. I need help!
