Microsoft OLE DB Provider For Oracle 64-Bit, SQL Server 2008: Does It Exist?
Apr 18, 2008
Does anyone know if the "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" in 64-Bit Windows exists in SQL Server 2008 64-bit? It only existed in 32-bit SQL 2005, which was a big problem. Needed for Linked Server creation. We do not want to use OPENQUERY calls with the native Oracle 10G driver, too many coding changes.
I have an issue using parameterised reports connecting to Oracle using "ODBC" and "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" using parameteried reports. The following error is generated "ORA-01008 not all variables bound (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle)" and a similiar one for ODBC. It works fine for simple reports. Do these 2 drivers have issues passing parameters for a remote Oracle query? Thanks.
On my dev server I have working ssis packages that use connections Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle MSDAORA.1 and Oracle provider for oledb and OracleClient data provider.
I use one or the other according to my needs.
In anticipation and to prepare for the build of a new production server, I have build a test server from scratch and deployed to it the entire dev.
Almost everything works except Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle.
ssis packages on the test machine will return an error
Error at Pull Calendar from One [OLE DB Source [1]]: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "one.oledb" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
Error at Pull Calendar from One [DTS.Pipeline]: component "OLE DB Source" (1) failed validation and returned error code 0xC020801C.
[Connection manager "one.oledb"]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle.".
I have used the same installers for OS, SQL and Oracle SQL*Net on both dev and test machines. The install and then the restore/deployment on Test went fine.
Does anyone could point me to the right direction to solve this issue?
I have designed a DTS package which will migrate a view from Sqlserver 2000 to Oracle. My package is using Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle driver for connecting to oracle.Im able to execute this package on the my system ie on the system where sqlclient is installed(Oracle client is also installed on my machine) .But when im doing it on the server im not able to do it.The Connection to Oracle Fails. I wanted to know in order to connect to Oracle from the server,is it necessary that Oracle has to be installed on the server?.If yes, is it enough if i install oracle client on the server or Oracle Server version has to be installed on Server.
I issued the following set of statements against an Oracle 8.0.6 table linked to Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 (SP2):
BEGIN TRANSACTION DELETE FROM ORACLE_DATABASE..SCHEMA1.TABLE1 WHERE COLUMN2=123.45 ROLLBACK TRANSACTION
and received the following message:
Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'MSDAORA' does not support distributed transactions.
I searched BOL and found this sentence:
To perform distributed transactions between SQL Server and Oracle, you must use Oracle version 8.0.4.1 or later.
What am I missing? Is there a higher version of Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle that supports distributed transactions (we are using the one that comes with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 installation)?
Previously i was using oracle8i with ssis.ssis was working fine.later i have upgraded 8i to oracle 9i.now when ever i try to establish a new connection using Microsoft OLEDB Provider for Oracle.i am getting the following error "Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle" .but i am able to access the oracle 9i database thru pl/sql and toad. what could be the problem?

I have the OraOLEDB.Oracle provider installed to the (C:oraclexe) directory.
I am having problems querying from linked oracle server. When i setup oracle as a linked server and purposely enter an incorrect password the query i run tells me i have an incorrect password. So it at least knows that. when i set the correct password and run a query I get this error:
(i replaced the real server name with "someServer".)
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SomeServer" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.

End Sub this code worked well. we know sql7 is not compatiable with vista. please tell us how to connect it wiith sql2005 . we downloaded orcas express edition beta. we created a database also. please let u know how to connect with Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 (.NET Framework Data Provider for Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5).
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. There are a few features in the new SQL Server - Reporting Services that I really need in production. I have tested everything and it works great. I am running the CTP version since Microsoft is saying they aren't releasing the release version until 3rd quarter 2008.
Since Microsoft won't sell SQL 2008 until 3rd quarter, can I run the CTP in production until the release and then purchase SQL 2008?
I have an ODBC connection setup for Oralce RDB. This works fine in say MSAccess. Now I would like to add a SQL Server Linked Server to this ODBC driver (it is for RDB not regular Oracle), but I am not able to get this to work. What is the Provider String and Location / Catalog for using this type of ODBC? I setup DSN as 'name', Provider String as 'UID=user;PWD=pass;' and it seems it tries to connect but gives an error. "%SQL-F-SCHNOTDEF, Schema USER is not defined"
Can anyone help me in connecting sql server and asp. Wheneever try to do the connection, I am getting following error. All the connection string which i am using are correct.
<% '----- Setup database connection Set DataCmd = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Set rsData = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.RecordSet") Dim varTempTableName
DataCmd.Open Application("DB")

I downloaded the €śMicrosoft SQL Server 2008 Express CTP, February 2008€? from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=749BD760-F404-4D45-9AC0-D7F1B3ED1053&displaylang=en
I simply replaced the 2005 file €śSQLEXPR.EXE€? with the 2008 file €ś€?, recompiled the installation and tested only for it to fail. I than read the 2008 books online and noted the change in command line options.
I then changed the command line to suit the Microsoft 2008 books online, recompiled the installation and tested only for it to fail once more.
Interestingly I tested the install from the default GUI and at the point of adding the €śsa€? login credentials it fails to allow the installation to proceed. Strangely by selecting the windows authentication credentials, €śnext€? than €śback€? it now allows me to add the €śsa€? login credentials and continues to install correctly as required.
I hope I have explained this clearly enough.
1. Is this a bug in the €śMicrosoft SQL Server 2008 CTP, February 2008€? installation? 2. If so is this causing the command line install options to fail? 3. How do I obtain a version of €śMicrosoft SQL Server 2008 Express€? that will work installing from the command line?
I want to create a table in MS-Access. So I have written the following query.
Code Snippet select * from Openquery(KKACC, 'select * Into Temp from Table select 1 as col1')
But I am getting the following error.
Code Snippet
OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "KKACC" returned message "Syntax error in FROM clause.". Msg 7321, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 An error occurred while preparing the query "select * Into Temp from Table select 1 as col1" for execution against OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "KKACC".
How can I resolve this error. Does any one have any work arround for this..?
when I was sending 50 simultaneous connections to the web services, I got these 2 errors: - "1[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. "
- "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)"
Everything worked fine if I ran 10 simultaneous connections. I am using Microsoft ACT to load test the web service. The database is SQL Server 2000. Any idea about why this is happening?
Been serahcing frantically for this provider: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers" for Windows Server 2003 x86. However I can't seem to find it. Supposedly MDAC 2.8 has it but when I go to install MDAC 2.8, nothing happens (this is acknowledged in fact in the support area on Microsoft and the given reason is that Win2K3 Server is already MDAC 2.8-compliant. So no new stuff needs to be installed. But alas this provider isn't in my list of available drivers).
Attempts to install any part of a lesser version of MDAC that says it has it are met with "Can't do that 'cause your current version of MDAC is higher that that."
I have been searching around all day on Msoft and other sites for such a beastie but like Brigadoon vanishing in the mist, it eludes me. Msoft's main MDAC page is here:
After disconnected from VPN (Cisco) , I am not able to connect to my SQL. Getting the error Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' Timed Out.
Restarting the SQL Server or Reset IIS, nothing works.
If I restart the machine, it works fine again. If I don't connect to VPN, I have no problem.
I am wondering that might be the problem. I enabled all the protocols.
I have posted this also in one forum. Somebody might have idea here.
We have four Windows 2003 advance servers with SP 3 configured on NLB. Each of them has one NIC. Recently we started to get frequent time-out error messages from web applications on those servers when they try to establish the connection with the SQL 2005. If you run web pages application to connect to sql server 10 times, 9 times you will get good connection results and 1 time you will get time-out.
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' Timeout expired /common/mypage.asp, line 20
Connection to sql server is established with the connection string. Any idea how to solve this problem? Is there a connectionproblem? from NLB to Web to SQL?
We have tried doing some suggestions (e.g. LMHOST, IP, domain account for WEb to SQL connection, the Query Wait in SQL advance property.), but seems this timeout expired still exist
I am using MSSQL2005 and created a linked server with Ole DB provider for ORacle to connect to Oracle.
sp_tables_ex linked_server
It shows the tables in oracle, however, it show error with selecting the oracle tables via the linked server,
Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 OLE DB provider 'MSDAORA' reported an error. [OLE/DB provider returned message: Unspecified error] [OLE/DB provider returned message: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel ] OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDAORA' IDBSchemaRowset::GetRowset returned 0x80004005: ].
I've recently taken over management responsibility for an application that uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
My experience is primarily in Oracle and I've already self educated myself about some of the differences (such as needing to initiate a BEGIN TRAN if I want a rollback segment.)
I couldn't readily find any resources that would coach me in the core differences between Oracle and SQL Server and I wondered if someone could point me in the right direction.
This is a problem that never get solved, sometime I can use other way to avoid it, but havn't found a solution yet, i hope I can get some more idea here.
I am using SQL 2005, when I run
select * into #import1 from OpenRowSet('microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0','Excel 8.0;hdr=yes;database=\ws8webjeff2.xls', 'select * from [jeff2$]')
I get
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0" for linked server "(null)".
when I try to compile a SP with that statement in it, I get the same error, like
create stored procedure test
as begin
select * into #import1 from OpenRowSet('microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0','Excel 8.0;hdr=yes;database=\ws8webjeff2.xls', 'select * from [jeff2$]')
end
so it seems the error may not relate to the real file, since at the compile stage, it should not check the real file?
On my live db, after I restart the SQL service, the statement will work, after a while, one or several days, I get the same error again. I can not restart my live db quite often for sure, so now I have another backup db server, I need run the statement on the backup server and then read the data from there.
I have the same problem at two places, both use SQL 2005.
So far there are three questions
1, why it works after restart, but only last for a while? something about memory? since the backup db seldom need restart and work fine after many days.
2, why it gives error in compile stage?
3, why two dbs in different Enviroment has the same problem
The most answer I have gathered so far is permission issue, true I got similar error if the import file is located in a place which SQL has no right to access. But in this case, it should not be.
3.Create linked server with scripts: exec sp_addlinkedserver N'MyOracle1', 'Oracle', 'ORAOLEDB.Oracle', N'//10.154.14.235', N'FetchSize=2000', '' exec sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname='MyOracle', @useself=N'FALSE', @rmtuser=N'root', @rmtpassword='Sqlexp!23' Â Â 4. After create successful and testing the connection ,I got the error below.(My windows firewall is turn off)
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "ORAOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "MyOracle".OLE DB provider "ORAOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "MyOracle" returned message "ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7303)
I am working on SSIS wehre I need to work on a flat file as a source and needed to import it to database. If the destination table have the record already, I need to update it and if not exist, I just need to import the whole data.
