Microsoft Releases Synchronization Services CTP

The Microsoft Synchronization Services for ADO.NET v1.0 CTP release appeared without fanfare on January 22, 2006. The release contains "v1.0 early CTP" bits for the sync framework and SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition (SSCE) v3.5, the Orcas successor to the SSCE v3.1 RTM bits, which Microsoft released on January 11, 2006. The current code name for Sync Services is OCS (for Occasionally Connected Systems).
Seems to me to resemble a "stealth release."

All,
At work, we are exploring SQL Server CE as a possible solution to speeding up our data processing times. We are using a Symbol scanner / mobile computer. I have been creating a prototype for the project lead and customer to evaluate. However, I am having trouble with the synchronization. Ideally, I would use one of the typical synchronization methods such as RDA. However, our customer does not want to have any wireless connection - or have us use any of the IIS services. Basically - they have a leased line between our agency and their agency - but refuse to have internet or a wireless network of any kind due to security concerns. They have made it clear that they don't want any communication between the scanner and pc outside of using the scanner cradle. Is there any way to synchronize the local SQL Server CE database on the scanner with the PC database while still following their guidelines? Before using SQL Server CE, we used RAPI and ActiveSync to communicate. I would like to find a more efficient way - as we were outputting data to a .txt file, moving it from the scanner to the desktop, parsing it, etc. It ended up taking a significant amount of time. Perhaps RAPI and ActiveSync is still the best answer. If so - however, I will need to find a more efficient way of using that method than our previous program.

2)CDC (Change Data Capture)
What are the best approaches to achieve the same.

Hello out there,
the documentation of SQL Server says that TRUNCATE_ONLY will be removed in further SQL Server Version.
So what should i use now?
The following Backupplan is used on a Development SQL Server.
The Plan has the following goals:
if there an Hardware Issue i can go Back to the Start of the Day.
If a Programmer or a Programm makes a mistake, i can Rollback to a specific point in Time or Checkpoint that was between the start of the week and the point in time where the Log got backed Up. (Backing up the LOG and make a Restore all Backups)
Heres the Plan:
Do Fullbackup on Sunday Morning. (WITH INIT)
Do Differential Backup every Day, except Sunday, morning.
WITH INIT is used to delete old Backups from the Week before.
Now the Problem:
The Transaction Log growth in time, because it never gets truncated.
so i made the decision to CUT IT before the Full Backup on Sunday morning gets executed.
But if i should not use TRUNCATE_ONLY - what should i use ?
Or do i have a (logical) Error in my Backupplan ?

Hi,
I have an application using SQL server 7.0 and have it installed at numerous sites. At the moment when an upgrade is carried out it generally includes changes to the database schema, at the moment these changes are tracked by saving lots of change scripts and running them as batch files. This process of update is quite time consuming and any errors that occur are not obvious so the upgrades must be carried out by our own staff. I was wondering two things:-
1) How do people manage this kind of problem.
2) Are there any tools that help to cope with this problem.

WE release our software once a week. In 1 months time we will have over 500 stored procedures in our DataBase.
What we do for releases is when a stored procedure is changed, we put the Drop and Create parts of that script in our SQL Update Script.
A problem comes up when Developer A changes My_StoredProc and then developer B changes the same stored procedure. Sometimes it works ok (the developer B will run the update script before changing his stored procedure. HOwever, it can happen where one Update script file has the same SP 5 times (5 drops 5 creates)... especially if over 300 SP's are getting updating in 1 release.
We will always catch these on our tests, however, it's the 2 hours to fix the Test DB after we run these tests...
What is the best way to manage these? We thought about putting our stored procedures into Team Foundation Server, but we don't know if that will work for us.
We have 8 developers in our team.
If anyone could help or give advice on this, it would be awesome.

According to SQL Server 2005 Book Online, the following "Important" note applies to SET_ANSI_NULLS and SET_ANSI_PADDING:
"This feature will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server. Avoid using this feature in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use this feature."
However, these options are automatically inserted in the auto-generated scripts (such as CREATE TABLE) in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.
I am working on new scripts that include these options. What are the replacements for these options? Does the above note apply to ALTER DATABASE options? Please give me advice!

Hello everybody,
There is some strange behaviour i've recently noticed while watching synchronization progress in Replication Monitor on SQL 2005 Server Standard with merge replication configured. The merge process seems to repeat several times.
This is the initial synchronizaion (reinitalization at the subsciber). Client is using Microsoft.SQLServer.Replication objects from .net framework assemblies.
The synchronization starts normally (status is "Running"). The last message of selected session box shows (among other messages): "Beginning evaluating partial replication filters" then "Finished evaluating partial replication filters" and finally "Merge completed after processing xxx changes... etc." after a few seconds. Status changes to "Completed" and then... the merge process starts again!! "Beginning evaluating partial replication filters" etc. And this repeats about 15-20 times.
And so whole process takes about 15 minutes instead about 45 seconds to complete initial synchronization. The number of changes is "Merge completed after processing ..." never change since the first such message.
Is this some bug in web synchronization or some invalid configuration setting? Why does merge process repeat itself so many times??

Hello all,
I have Microsoft iSCSI Initiator (SAN) installed on a SQL Server machine and has this drive acting as a local drive. All the database's data files are residing on this drive, attached with SAN.
It runs as a service "Microsoft iSCSI Initiator" on the SQL Server machine.
Now the question is, when we restart the SQL Server all the databases change their status to "Suspect" and we have to stop all the sqlserver services (all the SQL instances) and start them all up. This is the only temporary solution we came up with.
Could any one has any real solution or had encounter such a problem before?
Any help is appreciated.

I am trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services, Receiving the following error
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services -- Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:Config.Msi. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator.
I am already logged in as Administrator and should have all the necessary permissions to install software
Please help me.

Hi,
I am writing an installer code in C# to deploy the SSIS package.
I want to use Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS.dll for it.
It is mentioned in few articles available online that Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS.dll ships with SQL Server 2005.
I searched on our database server but could not get it.
Anyone having idea on this please help.

I have all this gray space at the top of my tasks. When I <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Left-click> to select all of my tasks and then try sliding it up, it creates even more gray space and actually moves it down. If instead when I <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Left-click> and then <Ctrl>+<Arrow-up> it doesn't move it. Is there any easy way to eliminate all this gray space at the top?

Hi all,
i need some help here.
1)i get this message when i tyr to connect to reporting Service in the SQL 2005 Management Studio
2) it seems like the permissions i set in the webiste http://sqlserver/reports (Report Manager) are not active...regular domain user to which i granted browser permissions to specific folder can brwose everything.
3) im not quite sure here, im not having a service labeled like Report& | $ Service . Some people say it must be in there...u know with the ampersand in the name of the service...im confused

I'm on page 41 and I'm getting an error with the example in the "SELECT "2004" FROM Sales.vSalesPersonSalesByFiscalYears"
part because there is not a table called Sales.vSalesPersonSalesByFiscalYears in the AdventureWorks database.
