Microsoft Search - Unable To Access Crawl Seed

Mar 30, 2000

I am working with Microsoft Search on SQL 7.0 and the catalog will not populate properly. The NT event log says "Unable to access crawl seed. The operation timed out." Has anyone run into this before? I have been able to duplicate this problem on two boxes. Question 2: Is Microsoft Search stable at all?

Sql Slowed To A Crawl After Deleting Mass Rows

Apr 25, 2007

Hi,

I've deleted about 3-4 million rows from one of my tables as the data was old and no longer needed. The problem is that now queries are runnning extra slow. I am in the process of running taras isp_ALTER_INDEX however its taking quite a long time and seems to be slowing things down even further while its running as expected. (It's been running 4 hours already, I have stopped it and will rerun it a slower traffic period for the db server)

Just wondering if I have the right approach here or if anyone else has any suggestions.

Thanks for your help!

Charts Slow Report Rendering To A Crawl

Aug 23, 2006

I've searched the forums on this issue, haven't really found the answer.

I have several nifty little sales reports which crunch a ton of data quite efficiently and render in just a few seconds in Report Manager. I've pushed as much of the data processing back to the server as possible, use a stored procedure (with parameters) in a shared datasource, don't return unneccessary data, all that. It works great.

When I first developed the reports, I continued generating my charts (which use the same data as the reports, just grouped differently) in Excel and pasting them in as images. Now I want to stop that nonsense and use the SSRS charts. I fooled around with the charting function and got a reasonable facimile of my Excel charts, two per report, which use their own separate stored procedures and the same shared datasource.

Now, reports that used to render in 5-8 seconds may take 1-5 MINUTES. Help! It's definitely the charts--taking them back out fixes the problem.

I have complete control over the datasources--would it make more sense to use non-shared sources, or to create totally separate shared sources? I saw a post that recommended "making data calls non-synchronous," but I have no idea how to do that.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Unable To Add Reference To Microsoft Excel In VSA

Mar 4, 2008

in an SSIS project i am building, i need to open up an excel workbook and execute a macro on that workbook. I have been unable to create the excel workbook object in my script task because i cannot seem to add a COM reference since VSA does not have this capability. in my research on the web i have seen a few solutions to this.

1. Microsoft Knowledge Base states that you can cause assemblies from other locations to be displayed in the .net list in VSA by adding other folder names under the AssemblyFolders registry key. i tried this but it had no effect and further research on the web found that nooneelse had any luck doing this either.
2. the other solution i saw is to add the needed dll to the C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727 directory. since i was unsure as to which dll is actually the one responsible for excel i just added all the dll's under the office11 directory in microsoft office. this too had no effect, as i still do not see the reference i need to microsoft excel in the list of available references.

this seems like this should be a fairly common problem but after several day of research and hair pulling, i have been unable to solve this. any help? anyone?

Microsoft Search Service Kills SQL 2000 Server

Apr 17, 2007

Hi all,

This may be more of a Sharepoint or server question but I thought I would post it here to start off with. I have an installation of SQL 2000 SP4 and sharepoint services 2003 all on one server. For example the SQL 2000 (SP4), sharepoint and its indexes all on the one server (HP G4 DL380). I have installed the index service and the full text services on the SQL server then configured searching in sharepoint. The search worked fine for about a year until one day the server started randomly hanging for no apparent reason. After a hard reboot the server would begin to hand again after around 2-3 minutes of being online, sometimes less. After lots of problem shooting I nailed it down to being the Microsoft search service that caused the issue. Basically if I set this service to manual and boot I have no problem. As soon as I start the service the server will start to hang about 2-3 minutes later.

I tried this again last night after trying some fixed and got the same result. The only error I get are in the application log which are about 4 of these with different file types.

One or more documents stored in image columns with extension €œX€? did not get full-text indexed because loading the filter failed with error '0x1'

The server continues to log messages while it is hanging and you can ping the server but you can not access sharepoint, remote in to the server, you can login locally but as soon as you try anything like bring up the start menu all resources will freeze up. During this time there is no disk activity and the CPU usage is 1-3% and mem usage is low.

Can anyone suggest anything to fix this problem so I can start the Microsoft search service and use search in sharepoint again.

Thanks,
LS

Hi,   I am using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition. I wanted to add a database to the Project. When i add it, it says "An error occured while extablishing an connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQl Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error:26- Error locating server / instance specified). Please let me know what is the cause of this error. Initially i downloaded Microsoft Adventure works database and saved the file as .mdf and tried to access it through the data grid. I got the same error message as above. I changed the settings in SQl server to enable remote access and also changed firewall settings to allow SQL server exe files. Then i uninstalled works db and now have disabled remote access and still have the firewall settings to allow SQL server on. Thanks,Vidhya

Hello all,

Over the weekend, I loaded the SQL Server SP2 on to my production database after having it on my dev server for two weeks with out any problems.

After I did this, I went to check all my SSIS packages and found them not able to load.
I get this message €œMicrosoft Visual Studio is unable to load this document: The package failed to load due to error 0xC0010014 €œOne or more error occurred. There should be more specific errors preceding this one that explains the details of the errors. This message is used as a return value from functions that encounter errors€?. This occurs when CPackage::LoadFromXML fails.

Now when I look at the errors I see:

Unable To Install Full Text Search

Sep 8, 2006

After installing SQL Express via the executable provided by MS successfully, I tried to go back and add full text search as well as replication. After going through the steps of add/remove - change ..... and being able to select both features after I hit next it then gives me an error trying to find

use source:

e:6f60166c6128881c04ed9e6c64e75Setupsqlrun_sql.msi

no big deal if I had the .msi but since it was installed via the .exe I don't have that file. I also did a search on all drives for that file. I also tried just selecting the full text search option. I looked on microsoft.com to see if I could search for the .msi there but no luck.

Any advice/ideas would be appreciated!

Transaction Logs And Microsoft ACCESS

Aug 9, 2004

here's a question i've always wondered the answer to,

you have a transaction log on sql 2000 which supposedly records all the sql commands (select, delete, insert, update) that are performed on your database.

now say you use ODBC and Microsoft ACCESS, you create a database file in Microsoft ACCESS with linked tables to your SQL Database via an ODBC connection.

now say you alter the data, maybe delete some records from that sql database using your linked table in Microsoft ACCESS

Would SQL 2000 (or any other version) record these actions in the log, even though the actions were carried out in Microsoft ACCESS? or has doing this completely negated the security offered by the transaction log feature?

do hope someone could shed some light on this, it's been bothering me for a while

Microsoft Access Database Synchronizer (ADS) RTW

Feb 20, 2007

Hi,

Today we are very pleased to announce the RTW release of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Access Database Synchronizer (ADS) for which many of you been waiting eagerly.

Access Database Synchronizer provides a way to synchronize data between Microsoft Access database on a desktop and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition database on a device.

The salient features of this solution are summarized below
Ø Provides a synchronization solution between SQL Mobile/SSCE and MS Access. Data conversion is done while synchronizing the data.
Ø Synchronization happens when there is an active ActiveSync connection between the device and the desktop.
Ø There is no update to SQL Mobile/SSCE on the device. The solution consists of only of desktop side component which works with the existing client agent on the device.
Ø The solution is based on existing RDA replication model. Programming model is exactly the same as RDA today.
Ø Device applications written today do not need to be updated if the solution is upsized from access to SQL Server.
Ø There is no conflict detection/resolution.

The setup installs the desktop component required for synchronizing Microsoft Access database with SQL Server Compact Edition database on the device. It also includes a readme file which has the documentation for the solution and a sample application. The readme file can be downloaded separately. The sample application shows how the solution works and how to write applications for this solution. The components installed on the desktop can be used by third party applications to provide data synchronization between Microsoft Access database on the desktop and SQL Server Compact/SQL Mobile database on the device.

On a desktop, the following operating systems will be supported:
Ø Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
Ø Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Ø Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Windows XP MCE 2005 Update Rollup 2installed.
Ø Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition SP2
Ø Microsoft Windows Vista (Only Windows Mobile 6.0 devices are supported)

On devices, the following operating systems will be supported:
Ø Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
Ø Windows CE 4.2
Ø Windows CE 5.0
Ø Windows Mobile 5.0
Ø Windows Mobile 6.0

The following versions of Microsoft Access will be supported:
Ø Microsoft Access 2000 SP3 (Microsoft Office 2000)
Ø Microsoft Access 2002 SP3 (Microsoft Office 2002)
Ø Microsoft Office Access 2003 SP2 (Microsoft Office 2003)
Ø Microsoft Office Access 2007

This solution will work with all installations for SQL Server Mobile Edition/SQL Server Compact Edition on devices. The sample application provided is supported only on Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC edition.

Microsoft Access To SQL Server 2005

Mar 6, 2006

Hi,

I have a database in MSACCESS 2003 that is 680MB (after compacting) and contains 41 tables.

I tried to import these tables to SQL Server 2005 (express edition) using the :"upsizing wizard" provided in MSACCESS. The wizard works fine but all the tables are not being imported to SQL Server (only 19 tables are getting imported) and the size of the database in SQL Server (the ".mdf file") is 1.03 GB (I have tried using the "shrink" option also) . Further, when I try to open one of the tables (which has 625295 rows and 90 columns) , it takes lot of time to display all records.

So, my problem is do I need to set any options for any of these above issues, I tried to look for any information regarding this but was unsuccessful.

Any help on this will be very much helpful for me!

thanks

Problem In Transaction With Microsoft Access Database

Apr 11, 2008

Hello,

I have microsoft access database. I want to use this database as source of SSIS transformation.
I have a data flow task which I want to get executed in Transaction with TransactionOption as "Required".

I tried using OLEDB datasource which uses oledb connection. I also tried using ADO.NET connection type with DataReader DataSource.

But in all cases at run time, it fires an error message as follows:
[DataReader Source [1]] Error: System.InvalidOperationException: The ITransactionLocal interface is not supported by the 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider. Local transactions are unavailable with the current provider. at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionInternal.EnlistTransactionInternal(Transaction transaction, Boolean forcedAutomatic) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionInternal.EnlistTransaction(Transaction transaction) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.EnlistTransaction(Transaction transaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.ManagedHelper.GetManagedConnection(String assemblyQualifiedName, String connStr, Object transaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSConnectionManager90.AcquireConnection(Object pTransaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.DataReaderSourceAdapter.AcquireConnections(Object transaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostAcquireConnections(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Object transaction)

If I remove the transaction, the data flow task works perfectly fine.
Please suggest What mistake I am doing while connecting to MS Access database in side transaction??

The same mentioned configuration WITH TRANSACTION works perfectly fine for SQL Server AS SOURCE. Am I missing some very obvious thing??
Please suggest.
