Mar 27, 2007Does Microsoft officially support installing SQL 2005 Express on a server where SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition is already running (a has to keep running).
In case they do, where do i find this official info / note.
Have they released white papers on this matter?
I know it is possible to install the two together and that they can coexist, but I am worried about how the two SQL installations wil behave when being updated with patches, security updates, service packs etc. do you run the possibility of them corrupting each other? Therefor it is vital to know if Microsoft supports the two running on the same system.

May 2, 2006I'm trying in vain to upgrade sql server 2000 to 2005 with great headache and pain.
I (finally) have removed all Beta, and other incompatible version of .NET, Visual Studio and any other offending components, and made it to the first page of the install shield.
The .NET 2.0 components installed fine - but I get a fatal error trying to install the SQL Server Set Support Files.
I do have a log file - and have tired searching on the various error codes in it, but am coming up blank. Please advise - this is taking forever!

May 30, 2007I am trying to configure distributed transaction and XA support using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver. I have coppied SQLJDBC_XA.dll from XA directory and placed in my sql server binn directory and trying to run the script xa_install.sql from binn directory with command as below :

But I am getting error saying :

I've just started hosting my newly created Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition web site. Unfortunately the Login group membership functions will not function correctly. Having contacted the web service hosting provider, They replied: "We do not support SQL express2005. The only way to use the extra functions of ASP.NET2 such as group membership is if it is using an SQL 2000 database to connect to. "
Is it possible to design web sites with Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition that store membership details on an SQL 2000 database?
I've just paid £88 approx. $140 for a years subscription, have I chosen the wrong web service hosting provider?
Should I have designed the web site with a better web site design software tool that also makes designing membership login functionality easy, just as Microsoft Visual Web developer 2005 express edition?

Mar 17, 2008I have a query that executes just fine except that it won't recognize varchar(255) ( or any other value within the () ) and if I leave it off like this: varchar, then it executes but it leaves that value as 1 and that is just not very useful for my purposes. This also happens with anything else that requires () to add length such as char(), or nvarchar(), etc... Any ideas?

My computer can take 2 gigs, but I presently only have half a gig.
If I install 2 gigs on my machine, will that cause SQL Server Express to malfunction?
