Migrate MSExcel Worksheet Sources To SQL2005

Apr 3, 2006

Hi,

Is there anyway I could do to migrate my data on my excel workbook to SQL Server 2005 per worksheet? Meaning, I have to create table for all my excel worksheet then transfer all the data to a new table through SSIS package.

How will I possibly do this? Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Need To Migrate A Sql2k Server To Sql2005

Jan 17, 2008

Hi,

I have a server that has sql server 2000 standard edition, and I just got a new server but this time I'm going to use sql2005 Express (free version).

My databases are not 2gigs in size, so I should be fine.

What is the best method for me to convert the databases? Is it to just detach the database and re-attach in sql2.5?

Extracting Data From MSSQL To MSExcel

Jul 13, 2004

I recall something about Analysis Services (SQL server tool) that is able to extract data from the DB tables (select multiple tables if one wishes (and to link those tables up ??!?)) then extracted to MS Excel. It has been a while since the course was last taught, I'm not at all sure how the steps were, or how Excel were able to display them. Would someone advice or refer to a tutorial if possible?

Much thanks!

Return Excel Worksheet Name

Sep 14, 2005

Currently my package contains an Excel Source with a contraint to a SQL Table.  The Excel Connection Manager currently has an expression attached to it which allows it to read the variable value and this in turn loads the correct file.  This all works fine.
The problem I am having is that if the Worksheet name is different to what was previously set a error is thrown.
Is there anyway in SSIS I can retrieve the name of the excel worksheet and pass it into a variable to be used.
Thanks

Import Excel With Varying Worksheet Name Using DTS

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to create a DTS package that will let me import an Excel file. The user will be able to name the file the same name every time. But can the DTS package read a different worksheet name each time? Right now, if I use the Excel connection object in DTS designer, it wants to hard code the worksheet name.

Thanks,

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: OPENROWSET When Excel Worksheet Name Is Unknown

Sep 7, 2011

I've created a stored procedure that accepts two arguments: the name of an Excel workbook (@workbookBillRun), and the name of the first worksheet found in that workbook (@worksheetBillRun).

Through dynamic SQL, I'm able to construct a statement that pulls out data.

SELECT @sqlBillRun = '
SELECT [ACCTNUM], [INVNUM], [RECURRING], [NON RECURRING], [USAGE],[DISCOUNT],[TAXES]
FROM OPENROWSET (''Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0'', ''Excel 12.0;;Database=' +@workbookBillRun+ ';HDR=YES'',
''SELECT * from [' +@worksheetBillRun+ '$]'')'

The workbook name will always be known: when the user uploads the file, I change the name to match a certain pattern. Example: 2011-08 AUG.xlsx

However, I won't always know the worksheet name. The workbook *should* contain just one worksheet; and the worksheet *should* be named identically to the workbook (2011-08 AUG), but it may not be named as such. And if I pass an invalid worksheet name, the code above will fail.

I've created error handling to alert the user of an incorrectly named sheet. However, I was curious whether I could extract the name of the first worksheet in the workbook from within T-SQL.

I am kind of surprise that when I click the Refresh button on the PivotTable Tools ribbon bar above the report the report does not refresh.  I have to open the PowerPivot window, click refresh and then go back to the worksheet with the PivotTable and click Refresh.  Is that by design?  It seems like the Refresh on the worksheet just gets the existing data from the table.

Install Sql2005 32 Bit After Removing Sql2005 64 Bit

Sep 19, 2007

I am unable to install 32-bit SQL Server Integration Services on the server due to something that was left behind by the 64-bit version.

I've uninstalled SQL Server 2005 64-bit and when I try to install the 32-bit version of Integration Services, I get this error: "Failed to install and configure assemblies C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90DTSTasksMicrosoft.SqlServer.MSMQTask.dll in the COM+ catalog. Error: -2146233087 Error message: Unknown error 0x80131501 Error descrition: FATAL: Could not find component 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Task.MessageQueueTask.ServCompMQTask' we just installed."

I can't seem to figure out how to resolve this problem with the COM+ and I can't remember if Integration Services is required.

Can anybody please advise?

Migrating Sql2005 Vb Dts Package To Sql2005

Jul 8, 2007

Hello,

I have a vb program that include a dts package that has been saved to vb with sql2000 dts wizard and works very good.

Now that I upgrade my website to sql2005, this vb dts package doesn't work.

The error I get is:

Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package

Invalid STDGMEDIUM structure

(Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package (80040066): Invalid STDGMEDIUM structure

) (Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000) (80004005): [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near ')'.)

I searched in the internet how to make dts package in sql2005 and save it to vb and found no information about it.

What Can I do to get the vb code of the dts package I create in sql2005 or how do i migrage the sql2000 vb dts package code to sql2005?

Thanks,

Linking SQL2005 On 64-bit To SQL2005 On 32-bit OS.

Nov 13, 2006

I have some production boxes on Win 2000 32-bits OS and some production servers have been upgraded to Win2003 64-bit OS runing SQL Server 2005. There are also a number of Win2003 32-bit OS running SQL 2005.

The issue is that when linking the 64-bit production servers to the 32-bit boxes running SQL 2005 / Win 2003 OS, the linking seems to succeed, but I am unable to see a number of entries in sys.objects. Typically, these objects are User Stored Procedures.

Moreover, the linking seemed to have worked, but data extraction does not take place between the servers. However, there are no errors. The objects (user stored procs) exist on the 64-bit side, but linking does not actually happen.

Microsoft KB has addressed this in SQL 2000 case in this KB article, but has not suggested a solution for SQL 2005.

Any ideas? Has anyone else encountered this?

Thanks.

Insert From Different Sources

Feb 9, 2007

Hi everyone,

Can I do an insert with one column value being specified and the others being retrieved? Basically, I have to take an input from the user, join that input with the result of a select (based on that input) and post that to a table
I don’t suppose we can do something like

INSERT destTable(col1, col2, col3….)
Values (col1_value, (Select (…..)))

What do y'all think? Any input/suggestion is appreciated! :)

I noticed I can add mutiple outputs in 1 script component which makes the script component to work like a dataset (container of different recordsets (tables) ), if I am correct. Can this be redirected to an dynamic oledb connection.

Data Sources

Apr 4, 2008

I searched and read about Data Sources and I'm seeing that there is no advantage in using it, which is what I found from playing around with it.

I expected that you would set a global connection in Data Sources and somehow link this to the things in your Connection Manager, giving you one place to switch from one environment to another. But reading the discussions here and playing around with it, this is not the case.

So, why is it there?

Next question.... another thing I gathered so far is something called "Configurations" that will do what I was describing above. Where do I do this?
