Does anyone know or has anyone heard of any migration tools which
are/might be available for converting SQL Server 2000 databases to SQL
Server 2005 Express?
I'm guessing it is probably a bit early but it was worth a shot!
Thanks
I have created a database using VB Express 2005 express edition and I have created number of tables and SP's etc.
I am trying to use the database diagram tool but I get an error stating that the database doesn't have a valid dbo. I say yes to the prompt about making myself a valid dbo but I then get a message stating that I do not have permissions to imprersonate the dbo.
I've downloaded the migration tool to convert an Access 2000 DB to a SQL DB. The VB code utilizes DAO (3.6) for hourly automatic compaction and the creation of an encrypted security database. ADO is used for the data maintenance functions. I expect the current connection methodology of ODBC using Jet 4.0 will need to be modified (many articles here address this). All the SQL code is inline and also must be modified. The Coldfusion code utilizes Micrsoft Access with Unicode via an ODBC connection with only SQL Select statements. At another job, I migrated an Informix 7 database to MS SQL 7 and for the most part the SQL code remained the same except for the wildcard spec from * to %.
I'm looking for insights and/or shortcuts on this effort, primarily in the SQL command mods area. I'm perusing the threads here as we speak, but hoped someone knew of a specific thread I could go to....laziness is alive and well for us chronologically gifted people, i.e. over 55.
I have a requirement to migrate the data from an existing MS Access database to a newly designed SQL Express 2005 database . Need less to say the table structures in both are totally different.I would like to know how can i handle a scenerio where i want to map table A in access to table B in SQL express (the schema of both different and the number of columns can vary too) , how do i migrate the data from table A in Access to Table B in SQL express using SSMA?
Also i would appreciate if some one can tell me is SSMA the right tool for this , or should i use the upsizing wizard of MS Access. The constraint here is that the data needs to be migrated to a completely new schema. I just need to migrate data only and no other objects.
The Environment: I have an old Windows 2000 BackOffice server (Retail but with no media) that hosts a small database (<50mb) that is hosted on the local SQL Server 2000 installation. The network has 8 PCs that connect to the database via ODBC connections. I just purchased a new server running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition (OEM).
What I€™m Trying to Accomplish: I want to decommission the old 2000 BackOffice server and move the database to the new 2003 Standard server. I€™m trying to do this on the cheap, so I really want to avoid spending thousands on a new SQL server license.
Things I€™m Considering: 1) Migrating the database from SQL 2000 Standard to SQL 2005 Express 2) Moving the database from SQL 2000 Standard to MS Access 3) Purchasing SQL Server 2005 licenses and upgrading 4) Purchasing SQL 2000 Server licenses
The options are pretty much listed in my order of preference. I€™d like to move from SQL 2000 Server to SQL 2005 Express, but I haven€™t really found a lot of material on the subject since people customarily go the other way.
Any advice or alternative recommendations would be much appreciated!

and *cannot* get SQL Server 2005 Tools Express Edition CTP to uninstall. I get the following dialog box:
"The setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore. The action is Write_CommitFlag. The error is:Unable to write property into cache flagCommit Unable to write property into cache: "flagCommit" XmlRW Error: Failure loading xmlrw.dll CheckAllProcedures() returned 2."
Does anyone have experience in migrating data (not structure) from an Oracle 7.x database to a new schema built on SQL 6.5? Especially using third party migration tools, for example Data Junction 6.5?
I would be interested in seeing any materials you can provide or advise as I start down this path.
Please point me towards some good trusted (possibly economical) Data Conversion tools for converting legacy system SQL 2000 (XML, Image all data type) db data to SQL 2005 database (and possibly to Oracle too) in a totally different db schema/structure.
I've been testing a variety of database schema migration tools. Ourcompany purchased Embarcadero Change Manager a while ago but we'vebeen less than satisfied with the results. We are looking for a tool that can compare a source/developer databasewith a target/client database and then make the necessary changes. The tool will need to update stored procedures, tables, indexes, constraints, etc. The tool will also need to make the changes in thecorrect order based on dependencies and relationships.Anyone have any recommendations?
hi, i need some help here,i made a simple data driven website in my development PC, at first, i used MS Access for my data base then i migrate it to sql server express 2005, and it works fine when i try to run it in my development PC with my IIS. but of course i will be deploying it to a real server, in our office were i will deploy my data driven site, we have a PC server Win Server 2003 with SQL Server 2000 Enterprise (im not pretty sure by the name but i know its not a free version, its something like a 2000 sql version with a word enterprise at the end).so my question is, i am developing an ASPdotNET site originally used SQL server 2005 express, how can i migrate my site to the Win Server 2003 and my database from SQL Server 2005 express to SQL server 2000 enterprisewill it work?? if not, what are the possible solution that i can do in cases like mine?i used Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Ed. in making my sites, and its DOES NOT allow databases in SQL Server 2000!!!!!it says "can't recognize the database"i hope you can help me with this.Thanks-SALAMAT PO....=)
Hi i have had a few problems taking a database backup .bak from an SQL Express install on one server i.e. SQLHOST/SQLExpress and moving it to a new machine in a different office i.e. MASTERSERVER/SQLExpress
Hi, While building a vista 64 Ultimate machine recently, I temporarily installed the express edition toolkit with visual studio 2005. I have since uninstalled sql, and reinstalled the 64-bit developer edition. However it appears the toolkit did not uninstall completely - now when I try to install workstation components, bol, etc. It says that the upgrade is blocked. Hard as it is to believe that an express install can block a developer edition install, it does. I've tried reinstalling the ee toolkit, as any client/management tools are better than none - but this fails, saying that the components are already on the machine!! sheesh! It doesn't give an option to uninstall.
Has anyone got any ideas. I've uninstalled *everything* sql related, reinstalled with sp2 twice. I can see and create databases using visual studios server explorer, but this does not give any management options. Does anyone know how I can remove whatever registry entries are fouling up this installation?
I have installed the SQL 2005 Client tools in anticipation of our servers been upgraded to SQL 2005 soon. I would like to create a local instance of SQL 2005 i.e. Express so I can try out functionality while I wait for the servers to be upgraded.
Is this possible or is now installing Express going to mess up some of the currently installed tools?
<!--[if !supportLists]-->What administrative tools/utilities are installed with a "base" install of SQL Server Express SP2 (e.g., ability to issue command-line SQL, GUI's for accesssing/adminstering databases, etc.)? How can I control what is installed? -Kyle<!--[endif]-->
Can the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio interact with local SQL 2005 Express databases. So can we use one management tool for both our server (non-local) SQL 2005 Databases and our local SQL 2005 Express databases (That the developers have free reign over).
Hi, I understand from previous threads that installing SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 on the desktop client can speed up the response rate of the Visual Studio 2005 Business Intelligence Tools.
However after logging on as an administrator and installing Service Pack 2, Service Pack 2 returned no errors. However after launching Visual Studio and clicking on the about dialog box the version reported was still €œRTM.050727-4200€? where I was expecting to see €œSP.050727-7600€?.
I understood that I applied the same service pack to my copy of SQL Server on my laptop and the upgrade worked successfully.
In the registry in Windows 10, I looked inside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server. Is LoginMode still in some subfolder of that, or has it been moved to another place? Perhaps a differently named key is now used. Or perhaps it's configured in a config file for SQL Sever 2012 express.
I downloaded and performed a full install of SQL Server Express 2008 Nov CTP. It was installed on a fresh installation of Windows Vista Enterprise x64.
During setup, I checked the 'Client Tools' box which has the description: "Includes management and development tools: SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Configuration Manager, SQL Server Profiler, and Database Engine Tuning Advisor"
The installation ran fine with no errors. After install I looked for the Management Studio but couldnt find it anywhere. No SQL Server Profiler or Database Tuning Advisor either. The only tool that appears to have installed is the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
If I check my Start Menu, the only 2008 items that exist are Microsoft SQL Server 2008 >
Configuration Tools >
SQL Server Configuration Manager SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting SQL Server Installation Center

I'm trying to learn some VB programming with the VB 2005 Express Absolute Beginner Series video tutorials (which I think is great) and have come across a problem that I can't solve.
When I follow the instructions in Lesson 9 (Databinding Data to User Interface Controls) my application will display the data from the database correctly and I can edit it (and as long as the debugger is running the data remains changed). However, the changes won't propagate back to the database. I don't get any error messages but after I edit the data, save (with the save button on the BindingNavigator toolbar), and end debugging the data in my database remains unchanged. When I use a MessageBox to show how many rows where edited/updated in the
I get the correct number back. I'm sure the problem is not due to coding errors since I've also tried running the accompanying Lesson 9 project file that can be downloaded from MSDN and the problem persists.
I'm using Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and VB 2005 Express Edition. I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 Express with a number of different settings, including default settings, but it doesn't make any difference.
Would greatly appreciate any feedback on this as I'm keen to resolve this problem so I can get on with the next tutorial lesson.
I have to transfer existing DTS packages from sqlserver 2000 to sqlserver 2005, Please let me know the steps by which i can migrate all the runing DTS into SSIS into sqlserver 2005
Hi All, We are planning to move from sql server 2000 and sql server 2005. Just want to know how well is the backward compatibility and things that we should take care of before migration.
I have to migrate our existing SQL Server 2000 (standard edition) running on Windows 2000 server (32 bit) to a new windows 2003 server (64 bit) (SQL 2005 standard edition). I am thinking of doing this migratin after hours (or may be on weekend so a
I have planned the following steps (in order).
1. Install SQL Server 2005 on new server.(windows authenticatin and a SQL server will be running on a separate domain account)
2. Download SQL server upgrade advisor on current SQL Server 2000 (windows 2000) and run a report.
3. Back up (Full) SQL Server 2000
4. Script logins and schedule tasks on SQL 2000
5. Restore database on SQL 2005
6. Create jobs by runing Jobs scripit on SQL 2005
7. Create users and passwords by running the exported script file. Please refer to: How to transfer logins and passwords between instances of SQL Server http://support.microsoft.com/kb/246133/en-us
I am aware that I might face issues of db compatibility level, statistics out of date so I need to update statistics and may be redindex all my tables
PLEASE LET ME Know if I am missing something obvious? Not sure about our existing DTS packages? Any information. Right now I am just thiking of running all my existing 2000 DTS in 2005 as legacy
Note: Rob, Tara, Michael Valentine Jones, Mladen or Nigel , if you cam provide some input from your wealth of experience on this matter. I would sincerely appreciate it.
