I am unable to change the mirror operating mode on a test database mirror I have set up. I installed (from MSDN) the RTM SQL 2005 Std Edition and applied SP1, then set up a mirror, which works fine but only on High Safety mode. I want to use High Performance mode, but the operation mode radio buttons are greyed out for me in the mirror properties page. Also, I tried running:
alter database TestDB set safety off
and recieve the error:
Msg 1473, Level 16, State 6, Line 1
This SQL Server edition does not allow changing the safety level. ALTER DATABASE command failed.
Are the various mirror modes not supported on the Std edition or am I overlooking something?
Thanks.
From the db engine server properties:
Product: Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition
OS: Microsoft Windows NT 5.2 (3790)
Platform: NT INTEL X86
Version: 9.00.2047.00
I have checked my Production databases, both are went to Disconnected state, both are unable to connect to the application, i checked all the services and its working fine. and restarted the end points on Principal and Mirror, still issue not solved, after restart the witness server End point both the databases are working fine.

I choose "PERSERVER" as licensing mode during the installation of the SQL Server by running the Setup. Now I want to change it to "PERSEAT" but I don't know how.
Change the Authentication Mode of the SQL server from "Windows Authentication Mode (Windows Authentication)" to "Mixed Mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication)".
We have 300+ databases on one sinlge server (SQL 2005). If I need to change recovery mode from full to simple for all of them, is there any way to do so? Please advice.
I have been migrating Databases from a SQL Server 7.0 Instance to a 2000 Instance. Basically the method I use is as follows:
a)Create a new Database on the Destination Server (same name as the Source) When I create the new Database on my destination server, the compatibility mode is '80' and the source is always '70'
b) do a 'revlogin' on the Source Server and use the output from that query to recreate the logins on the destination server
c) make sure that the default DB for the newly creates logins are correct and change them if necessary
d) Backup the DB on the Source Server and Restore it to the Destination Server.
e) Check login permissions and fix any orphaned users - usually I don't find any that need to be fixed, but I always check.
I've read BOL on Changing the compatibility mode on the Database... but I'm still unsure when I would have to do this and why???????????????? SHOULD I be changing the compatiblity mode from 80 to 70 when migrating Databases from 7.0 to 2000???? Any advice on moving DBs in this manner would be appreciated.
I installed SQL Server 2005 using Windows Authentication Mode (Windows Authentication)"
How can I change the Authentication Mode of the SQL server from "Windows Authentication Mode (Windows Authentication)" to "Mixed Mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication)"?
I have a database that is set to Full recovery model, I would like to switch to simple. I must perform some procedure before doing so? The size of the transaction log is very high in this database, I would like to decrease it before moving to simple, have a problem doing that?

I am using SQl Server 2012 Database Mirroring with around 40 gb as mdf and 1 gb as ldf. Now my ldf size increased . How to reduce ldf size while mirror enabled with mirror server and witness server. Can shrink the ldf with mirror enables.
Recently we had multiple production failures because one database was in single-user mode. I am trying to recreate this scenario to write a script that will kick out that connection that was holding database in single-user.In SSMS window 1 I run the following code:
use master go alter database test set single_user with rollback immediate
[code]....
Yes, it shows one record, but the database name is master, not test. And indeed, I run it from the context of master. Also tried sp_who, sp_who2, sys.dm_exec_requests - nothing works. For dm_exec_requests it shows nothing because it does not run at the current moment.Any other solutions to catch this SPID with a script?
I need to change the authentication mode from 'windows' to mixed, its a 4-node participating in always-on... Will this brake/impact alwayson in any way? I know I have to restart the sql instance.
After adding the Witness Server to the Mirror session, the Witness Connection state between the Mirror and Witness Connection is Disconnected and the state between Principal and Witness Connection is Connected.
The procedures defined in Books Online was used to setup Database Mirroring...when the Witness server was added to the Mirror session, only the alter database T-SQL statement was executed on the Principal server.
ALTER DATABASE <db_name> SET WITNESS = 'TCP://<servername>:<port>'
After executing the above statement, a few seconds later the state between Principal and Witness Connection changed to Connected and the state between Mirror and Witness Connection remains Disconnected.
The Mirror session is not using Certificates, every server is on the same domain, using the same domain login account, and all servers have SP2 installed running Enterprise Edition.
Any idea's why the state between Mirror and Witness Connection remains Disconnected?
I was trying to test mirroring and now would like to delete the mirror database but it says I need to remove database mirroring first. I deleted the endpoint and cannot figure out how to remove the mirroring. Can someone please help.
Durning install I selected Window's Authentication only, but now it seems we may need to use a Mixed Mode with an SA account etc... is there anyway to switch SQL 2005 to use Mixed Mode after the fact?
We have reports in SharePoint integrated mode which are really slow when compared to native mode. I have been asked to research and give info on what exactly causes the delays.
Any articles which give me information as to what happens when a report is run from SharePoint server and where does it log.
There is a query which when executed in the grid mode(ctrl+d) takes approx 0.02 seconds(about 21,000 rows) But when I execute in the text mode, it takes about 0.40 seconds!! Why is this difference? Also, when the records from this table are read from a VB application, they are equally slow (as in the text mode!) Why is it so slow on the text mode & relatively faster in the grid mode? Has anyone got any idea on ‘Firehose’ style cursor ?(which may speed up access of data in the VB application)
Recently I read such statments 'When SQL Server is run in "lightweight pooling" mode (fiber mode) and the DTC service is started, unexpected behavior may occur.' Can someone say anything about fibe mode?I am appreciated for it.:)
Currently, our Report Builder is running on Local Intranet mode. I'm investigating what the security implications are in changing it to Internet mode. However, I've not been able to find any documentation on this.
Does anyone know of any documentation that addresses this issue or have experience that they can share with changing Report Builder security zone from Intranet mode to Internet mode?
I have a SQL 2005 OTC. CTP version running on Windows 2003 server.
I would like to find out how the SQL server option changed to Windows Authentication mode from Mixed mode over the weekend. From the SQL log, I don't see when it changed. I would like to see Date/Time and client IP. If I can see User ID (windows) that would be great. Where I can find these info in SQL server?
Hi All, I am working on a server movement work. The application is moving from sql server 2000/windows 2000 to sql server2005/windows 2003.I have a DTS package including some stored procedures which operates on the sql server. I am using xp_cmdshell for copying and deleting excel files. And I am using microsoft.jet.4.0 to fill the excel file with data from a temp table. The dts goes fine but it is not copying the excel template from one location to other.Again while deleting the 2 months old file i got an error saying cannot delete the files. It was running correctly in sqlserver 2000.I have enabled the xp_cmdshell feature in the configuration. Please help me and suggest me. Thanks
I currently run SQL Server 2005 64-bit Developer Edition (Service Pack 2 - it will be SP 3 as soon as I can get hold of it). I am running this on a stand-alone box with Windows Server 2003 as the OS.
Soon, I will be buying another computer for a colleague who will be running SQL Server as specified above. However, I am not happy with Windows Server and am wondering about changing to either XP 64-bit or Vista 64-bit. The machine will not be networked.
I would welcome advice on this since, in some ways, I would be happy enough to use XP or Vista, and think that 64-bit development is more likely on Vista than on other Windows OS's. However, I am not convinced that SQL Server 2005 works with Vista and, like everyone else, have heard plenty of complaints about Vista.
Can someone please assist, we have a Database roughly 10GB in size,
