Missing Catalog Item For SQL Server 3.5 CE In Platform Builder 6.0 ?

Apr 28, 2008

Hello!

Since 2 weeks now I'm trying to figure out how to get SQL CE 3.5 into the CE 6.0 R2 image (I'm building my own image with platform builder 6.0, latest patches - until march 2008 - installed).

There is no Catalog item in my "Catalog item view" not even an older version of SQL!
In Platform builder 5.0 there were Items in the Catalog and - as expected - by selecting them I got the server into the image.

I also tried to add "SYSGEN_SQLMOBILE = 1" to the project environment variables, which resulted in having build errors instead of getting a working image.

There are also some postings around in the internet telling how to add the required dll's manually.
(Hey, Microsoft, do we live in stone age or in the 21st century?)

Btw. installing the cab files is possible for me, but of course not for our customers.

Are there any sugesstions how to get a catalog item?

best regards,
Martin.

SQL CE 3.5 And Platform Builder 5

Apr 3, 2008

I'd like to integrate SQL CE 3.5 into a platform builder image(using PB 5 targeting CE 5), but I don't see it in the catalog. Is it currently possible to Sysgen an image with 3.5? Can I somehow deploy the files from the .cab files? Sorry if this has been answered before, I searched around a bit but didn't find anything.

MDX Query Builder Missing Rows And Columns Areas

Feb 6, 2008

I was using the MDX Query Builder to create MDX queries for a SSRS report. I'm not sure what happened, but when I tried to create another dataset against the cube, the "Drop Column Fields Here" and "Drop Row Fields Here" areas were no longer available for me to drop attributes onto.

I have restarted VS, rebooted, you name it, I've tried it (short of re-installing). Has anyone encountered this and how did you "fix" it.

BTW: In order to continue working, I decided to use ProClarity to build the MDX for me and when I tried to paste it into the MDX editor, I get the following error: "The query cannot be prepared: The query must have at least one axis. ..". So, as I've seen from other posts, you can't use "any" MDX in the MDX Query Builder.

Reporting Services :: Added Parameter In Report Builder Now Missing Query Results

Oct 30, 2015

So, this is my Query for dataset "SalesOrder":

SELECT
SO_Header.Customer
,SO_Header.Status
,SO_Header.Customer_PO
,Customer.Name
,SO_Header.Order_Taken_By

[Code] ...

I would like to have a parameter on my report to Select by Order_Taken_By. My attempt at that is here:

Dataset called OrderTaken:

select distinct SO_Header.Order_Taken_By
from SO_Header
Under the report Parameter Properties named @Order, under Available Values
Selected "Get Values from a query"

I have DataSet: OrderTaken

Value Field: Order_Taken_By
Label Field: Order_Taken_By

The values of the field Order_Taken_By is all text characters, no integer values.

Running the inital Query by itself yields results. When I add the parameter, I can make a selection, but now I get no results, even though there should be values for the choice I've chosen.

SQL 2012 :: Catalog Doesn't Have Option To Give Read Access To SSIS Catalog To View Package Run Reports

Oct 23, 2014

"SSIS 2012 Catalog doesn't have option to give read access to SSIS Catalog to view package run reports" ... Any luck allowing power developers / operators access to READ the SQL 2012 SSIS Execution Reports without granting them SSIS_Admin or Sysadmin?

According to this link posted back in 2011 (w/ Microsoft's feedback in Nov 2011: "We’re closing this issue as “Won’t Fix.” At this point the bug does not meet our bar for resolving prior to SQL Server 2012 RTM. As we approach the SQL Server 2012 release the bar for making code changes gets progressively higher." URL....Regarding Permissions to SSIS Catalog, here are the findings. We can give access in three ways:

1. READ Access – We can provide a user db_datareader access. With this the user can see the objects within the SSIS catalog database, but cannot see the reports.

2. SSIS_ADMIN – Add the user to this database role in SSISDB. With this the user can view the reports. But it also provides them privileges to modify catalog information which is not expected. We can add it using below script EXEC sp_addrolemember 'ssis_admin' , 'REDMONDPAIntelAnalyst'

3. SYSADMIN - Add the user to this server role. This will make the user an admin on the SQL server. This is not intended. Is there any method available which will have provision to give read only access to see SSIS Catalog package execution reports and not having modify Catalog access.

Windows CE Platform To SQL Server

Jun 14, 2007

I am writing applications for barcode readers that send and receive information via wi-fi to a 2003 Server running the full MS SQL Server 2005. The readers are both XP and CE .NET 5.00 based.

The information is time critical so I need to scan a barcode then send that information to the SQL Server and then in turn run a query based upon it which then displays on the reader. I have no problem with the XP devices as I can link via ODBC to the SQL Server. These work perfectly.

I can also run a program on a XP desktop using Remote Desktop on the CE device which again works fine.

The CE .NET 5.00 readers are a problem as I cannot use OBDC or OLE DB owing to the platform.

Is there any method available where I can query the SQL Server directly without using some kind of third party product like ViaDB from Odyssey Software? I cannot use replication owing to the time constaints.

Any suggestions or gentle prods would be appreciated.

Help, Running A Control Flow Item Does Not Kick Off The Next Item

Mar 6, 2007

Hi,

Here's my problem. I have 2 tasks defined in my Control Flow tab:

EXECUTE SQL--------->EXECUTE DTS 2000 PACKAGE

When I attempt to run it, by right-clicking the EXECUTE SQL task, and selecting "Execute Task", it only runs the EXECUTE SQL part (successfully), and does not "kick off" the EXECUTE DTS 2000 PACKAGE, after it is done running (even though it completes successfully, as shown by the green box).

Yes, they are connected by a dark green arrow, as indicated in my diagram above.

Why is this?? Am I missing something here? Need help.

Migrate SQL Server From 64Bit Platform To 32Bit

Jan 2, 2007

Hi, All:

We have to migrate several 64Bit SQL Servers to 32Bit platform. Due to the 64Bit source systems are all production system, the downtime is too limited. So we can only get the DB files via Detach way. Among the source systems, both SQL2000 and SQL2005 exist.

My question are:

Is it possible to migrate the DB from 64Bit to 32Bit via Detach/Attach?

If ok, how to do that?

Any info will be highly appreciated! Thanks!

Desktop Platform Support For SQL Server Compact Edition?

Sep 10, 2007

Hi-

I am doing some technology research for a new app and was wondering about the desktop operating system support for SQL Server compact edition. This app has a PC component and a mobile component, and both need to be data enabled, with syncronization between the PC and the mobile device.

So it seems like SSCE would be a good fit. Just run the SSCE client on both the PC and the device. But in the system requirements for SSCE it only gives XP as a valid desktop OS...

Is that correct? Obviously, desktop platform support for a production app will need to be broader than just XP.

Will SSCE desktop run on Win98,Win2000,XP Home, and Vista?

Building A Truly Platform Agnostic SSIS Package (SQL Server And Oracle Interop)

May 18, 2007

As painful as it is proving out to be, I am trying to create a single package that is vendor neutral between SQL Server and Oracle.

At first, I thought that as long as I was going OLEDB in and out, and I ensured that my SQL syntax was generic enough, I'd be OK.

Well, not exactly. I am finding there is more to this. Specifically, metadata gets generated differently based on the source/targets.

For example, on an OLE DB Source task, datatypes will vary (i.e. NUMBER in Oracle vs Int in SQL). The job here is to pick the common denominator for the SSIS specific type. Time consuming, but doable, I think.

Another issue is on an OLE DB Desitnation. If you choose Table for Data Access Mode, this value gets written to the dtsx XML file. So, even when both RDBMS have the same schema (which is an obvious prereq) if choosing SQL Server "dbo.DimTable" will get written to the file and for Oracle "SCHEMA.DIMTABLE" will get written.

So, I am am wondering, what is the best way to address this?

My inital thought was using a dtsConfig file (which I am already using extensively) and set the target table names accordingly. This approach would have the added benefit of allowing for post-deployment configuration changes should a table name change, for example.

This section of the dtsx file shows the values of interest:

Code Snippet
<component id="138" name="OLE_DST_DimTable" componentClassID="{E2568105-9550-4F71-A638-B7FE42E66922}" description="OLE DB Destination" localeId="-1" usesDispositions="true" validateExternalMetadata="True" version="4" pipelineVersion="0" contactInfo="OLE DB Destination;Microsoft Corporation;Microsoft SqlServer v9; (C) 2005 Microsoft Corporation; All Rights Reserved; http://www.microsoft.com/sql/support;4">
<properties>
<property'>http://www.microsoft.com/sql/support;4">http://www.microsoft.com/sql/support;4">
<properties>
<property id="139" name="CommandTimeout" dataType="System.Int32" state="default" isArray="false" description="The number of seconds before a command times out. A value of 0 indicates an infinite time-out." typeConverter="" UITypeEditor="" containsID="false" expressionType="None">0</property>
<property id="140" name="OpenRowset" dataType="System.String" state="default" isArray="false" description="Specifies the name of the database object used to open a rowset." typeConverter="" UITypeEditor="" containsID="false" expressionType="None">"ORASCHEMA"."DIMTABLE"</property>
<!-- More Properies -->
</component>

Ideally, I'd like configuration time control over the name attribute of the component element (highlighted) so that I can set the value of the property element with the OpenRowset attribute type (also highlighted). This way, presumambly as long as datatypes were generic enough, the mapping would just work.

But, in walking through the dtsConfig tree, I don't see these elements or attributes exposed.

I would sincerely appreciate any suggestions on how to accomplish this.

Rick

Regarding ReCreating Catalog In SQL Server 2005 Which Was Existing In SQL Server 2000

Feb 24, 2008

Hello

I was using SQL SERVER 2000 ... In one table I've created FULL TEXT SEARCHING ( Full text catalog along with full text indexing)

Now we had to install our db in SQL SERVER 2005 standard edition. But while taking script it gave me two lines like:

if (select DATABASEPROPERTY(DB_NAME(), N'IsFullTextEnabled')) <> 1
exec sp_fulltext_database N'enable'
GO
if not exists (select * from dbo.sysfulltextcatalogs where name = N'DEV_CAS_DiagnosisCatalog')
exec sp_fulltext_catalog N'DEV_CAS_DiagnosisCatalog', N'create'
GO

so I used this in the new db creation script...

But I couldn't get where it actually is in SQL SERVER 2005 standard edition.

and also plz help how should we create if it doesn't exist...

What could be the problem....

Thanks In advance

BTW: I can exec the view using a 4 part name.

Linked Server SQL Server 2000 Initial Catalog

Feb 18, 2008

I'm trying to create a linked server to generalize the query for pointing to different versions/instances of the same schema. For instance, we are testing against a test db named Name_Config, but we also need to execute the same tests against Name_ConfigQA. By building the linked server (named "LS_Test"), we are attempting to leave the sql as is in another catalog on the same server by pointing through LS_Test so the following sql won't need modifying, just the linked server properties:

select * from LS_Test...table1

This produces the following error:

OLE DB error trace [Non-interface error: OLE DB provider does not contain the table: ProviderName='LS_Test', TableName='table1'].

Msg 7314, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

OLE DB provider 'LS_Test' does not contain table 'table1'. The table either does not exist or the current user does not have permissions on that table.

I've been able to do this through synonyms in SQL Server 2005, but I'm having no luck setting the propertes in 2000 such that the linked server maintains the catalog name. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problem Moving Report Server Catalog To Different Machine

Apr 5, 2007

Books On Line makes breaking out the report server databases on to a separate machine from the report server itself sound very easy. I have tried it and it is but I can't get the report server to connect to the databases once they are on the other machine.

Everything was done by the book(s). We use SSRS only for intranet use so all inside firewall. The SQL Server 2005 services on both machines (including the RS Windows service) all run as the same domain administrator account, this account was used to log in to RS Config Tool and it was told to use this account under Windows Authentication to connect to the database server. The two machines are in the same domain, even on the same switch. The only difference is the one with report server on is Windows 2000 Server SP4 and the one to which the rs databases are moving is Windows Server 2003 SP1. The account mentioned above has sysadmin rights on both SQL Servers, as well as having all the RSExecRole rights as specified in BOL. And it has rights to logon as a service in group policy on both machines. Its password hasn't been changed.

The RS Config Tool completed fine and reported no errors.

But when you try to connect to the report server you get the error:

"The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. The logon failed. (rsReportServerDatabaseLogonFailed)" The log shows that a privilege required by the client is missing but doesn't specify what! I thought this was all taken care of when the RS Config Tool told it which account to connect with.

This is driving me daft. It should be so easy!! Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? Nothing says I need to do anything with the encryption key when I am keeping the report server itself exactly as it was and just moving the catalog - or have I missed something here?

Grateful for any ideas.

Which Platform To Use

Hi,
I'm developing an application that will access a database, and then send the data to a server either in batch or as each item is updated over GPRS. The database will have a large table, with 20,000 records. Each record is about 150 characters. The data access needs to be as fast as possible. I'm not sure which platform/hardware to use to achieve maximum speed. I have experience with c#, sql server ce. Worked mostly on Windows Mobile 2003, but thinking of moving to WM 5 or 6. My question is what is the best combination of hardware, OS, development environment, and software to use?
