Missing Permission To Create Datasource, New Folder, Add Security..etc
Jun 20, 2007
I have windows 2003 reporting services 2005 that has been working fine. Now all of a sudden when I go to http://localhost/reports I am unable to assign security to folders(the link is hidden) the New data source button is hidden, the new folder button is hidden, upload folder and report builder are also hidden. I am logged in as aministrator.
Also when I connect to reporting services through SQL Mgmt Studio I have the same issue, there are no options for permissions only a general option.
I'm sure it's a permissions issue but what do i do to resolve?
I have installed new SQLServer2012 instance and my domain user have sysadmin privileges on this instance. I have a restore procedure and it will execute WITH EXECUTE AS 'domainmy username', for all the developers have exec permissions to this procedure. But newly installed server this procedure was failing with the following message. But the same procedure executing fine on other servers.
Msg 262, Level 14, State 1, Line 1 CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'. Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
Ive tried searching but nothing came up specific to my problem.
I currently have all the reports separated into separate folders, such as Finance, HR etc, and the datasources in a datasources folder at the root level. My problem is that when i upload reports into their appropriate folder, the shared datasource information gets deleted, and i need to re-map it everytime.
Is there anyway to have the specific reports point to specific shared datasource folders on the report server when i upload them?
hi. i got a question regarding the permission on share folder. i wonder i am able to do this as below.. if on runtime, after i export the data to xmlfile and i want it to auto save into the SHARE Folder in sql server. can i do that ?
** after press a button, auto export data to xml file, then auto save the xml file to share folder.
I have installed SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2003 Standard SP1. THe SAMPLES folder within the C:/Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/90 folder is missing. I installed SQL Server 2005 SP2 thinking that this might create the SAMPLES folder, but it didn't get created.
Please let me know what should I do to create it. Thanks in advance.
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTS folder missing. Why is this folder missing on my XP machine. I installed DTS backward compatibility components, SQL SP1 and Hot fixes. Im installing it on a non-server. Is this the reason?
I'm learning how to use audits in SQL Server 2014, but when I opened the Security folder there was no Audits folder inside. I did a bit of research and I found out that auditing is a feature in all editions of SQL Server 2012 onwards so I should have the Audits folder in order to create a new audit. There doesn't seem to be many posts like this online because the only posts I found about missing audit folders were about SQL Server 2008 (which doesn't include auditing in the standard version).
I've seen a few threads on this which seem to suppose the problem is on Express edition rather than Standard edition. Not so here. This is definitely Standard edition, SP3 as seen by running SELECT CONVERT(char(20), SERVERPROPERTY('Edition')) SELECT CONVERT(char(20), SERVERPROPERTY('ProductLevel')) In SSMS Under the Management folder there is no "Maintenance Plans" folder. There IS a "Maintenance Plans" folder under the Legacy Folder. I have another instance which is Standard and SP1 which looks just fine.
I have inherited a SSRS setup and am trying to do some clean up. Problem is I cannot see the Data Sources Folder. I am setup as SA and SU on both the RS Server and SQL Server. When I go check the catalog in SQL db it does truly exist as well as a number of data sources in the folder that reports are currently using. How can I see this folder?
I am trying to render a report that I set up with SSRS 2005 from an existing .Net web application. The report takes in a multi-valued parameter (sequenceNums) and displays data accordingly.
This is the url I am passing from the web application:
Upon redirect, I receive the following error "one or more data sources is missing credentials"
I currently have the following connection settings checked for the DataSource used in the report: - connect using credentials supplied by the user running the report - use as windows credentials when connecting to the DataSource
When I attempt to view the report with no parameters being passed in, the report renders properly and I receive a prompt asking me for my credentials.
Do I have to connect to my DataSource using credentials stored securely on the report server?
Thanks in advance.
Sam
ps - i included the url within a code block so no smiley faces would show
Hiiiiiiiiiiii, Why my program can't access data base, if i'm not set permission & security to All User (Everyone)..?? FYI, my IIS setting for directory security is Basic Authentication. Pls advise how my program can access the program, if permission & security are not set to Everyone ?? Thanks
On our report server I have several folders. I would like to set up security such that a user doesn't see any folders except the "My Reports" folder (I enabled the My Reports site option) and a few other folders I specify. These are a shared folder and the models folder.
Is there a way to create a system level role that by default can't browse any folders except My Reports and ones I specifically grant? I would also like this person to default to having the item level security role of report builder to create reports off of report models.
The only way I have been able to accomplish this so far was to add the user to the the system users site level role and then go to every undesired folder and delete the item level role assignments for the user. It seems odd for the user to have access to every folder then to remove permissions from each folder. Should I create a role with no tasks and then selectively add in the permissions to the desired folders?
I did try creating a new system level role that only had the Execute Report Definitions task assigned and assigned the user exclusively to this role but they could still see all of the folders and their My Reports folder. When I created a new folder the user had been defaulted to item level roles of Browser and Report Builder. I suspect these defaults are what caused the new folder to be visible as soon as I created the folder.
I searched the forum for my question so hopefully I am not causing a re-answer of this question.
I got an error while deploying my report: The permissions granted to user machineNameuserName are insufficient for performing this operation. After reading the posts in the forum, I realized that my RS setup may be incorrect. On http://localhost/reports, Contents and Properties tabs are missing... Please let me know how I can correct the problems. I am using SQL Server 2005, and I have admin rights on my local machine
Could someone please advise if the report folder structure I am proposing will be secure enough so unauthorised users can't access the reports?
I have created three folders; Departments (that contains subfolders being one for each department), Sections (that contains subfolders being one for each section), and Open Access. A manager will either see the Department or Section folder and then the relevant subfolder for the area he/she manages.
I have deployed the reports from the Development Studio to the Home page, made them invisible there, but created linked reports that then show in the subfolders. Each subfolder contains a separate linked report and each has parameters set within the Properties tab of SSRS that only enables the manager who will access that subfolder to see the report details specific to their area.
A manager will then be given the browser role for only the subfolder he/she has access to.
I would like to be sure that a manager will not be able to see information in other subfolders. Will my proposed structure be secure enough?
Hi, The Report Manager portal has many folders. For each folder there are specific users with different roles. I am trying to figure out the way to extract User, folder wise security data. I want to run a query and retrieve users name, the folders they have access to and the user role corresponding to that folder.
Use ReportServer
SELECT u.UserName, r.RoleName FROM users u, policyuserrole pur, roles r
WHERE pur.UserID=u.UserID AND pur.RoleID=r.RoleID The above query fetches all the users and their roles. The folder information corresponds to Path column of Catalog table. Am unable link this table with the above query. TIA
Hi Every body, I have newly joined this group. I am new to DB administration. Hi, I have a folder structure of reports like this Home | / A B
Now, suppose I have created this folder, A first and user, say A_User is given permission to view this folder. I am expecting this user to browse from 'Home' to A folder but as you know to browse folder 'Home' he must also be added to 'Home' folder . So I add him to 'Home' now.
The problem comes when I add new folder B, for user B_User. The moment I add this folder A_User is also added to folder B because of the inheritance of users to child folders. So user A is able to see both A and B folder....and thats my problem, he is supposed to only A folder and not B
Is there any way to disable this inheritance feature ?? I tried deleting A_User from B with a script using "InheritParentSecurity" method of ReportingService but it says that it can not delete inherited users.
How can I fix the problem ? without need to manually delete users from folders ??/
I am setting up a database for one contractor who needs to access one of our databases but i need to remove the permission for them to view the security folder so he cant access the SA account and enable it. I was able to deny them the view permission to see all the other databases and hide the system objects but i can still see the security folder and the sa account there where i can disable and enable it.
What is the correct way to create a security group that allows the group members to Select (Read) the content of a database?
1. Create a security group in AD 2. Add the required members to the group 3. Add the security group as a login on the SQL server (Under Security>Logins) 4. Add the security group to the specific database with Grant in Connect and Select
I am trying to do a schema compare and data compare via VS2012 and I am getting below error: The reverse engineering operation cannot continue because you do not have View Definition permission on the 'Target' database.
Whats interesting is I created a viewdefinition role and added the group(to which the user belongs) to the role. However I dont get the error if I make the group the dbowner. Is this a bug?
I'm trying to use WSS3 & RS 2005 as Integration Mode. But i cannot create a data source item on sharepoint site library.
If i go to Central Administration > Configure Reporting Services Integration,
I can see the settings, thats mean that the Report Server is available ( i think so ) And also i can create dataources on Central Administration Web site (//servername:12500)
But from my production server web site ( //servername/ ), i cannot create those items.
I received the message
An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode.
Can somebody help me to fix that strange behavior.
Hello, I Created a report with reportbuilder, after clicking on Run Report I got this message, Its very strange it seems that its trying to generate or create a datasource.
Para obtener más información acerca de este error, vaya al servidor de informes en el equipo del servidor local o habilite los errores remotos ---------------------------- No se puede crear una conexión al origen de datos 'dataSource1'. ---------------------------- Error al procesar el informe.

Hello, I have a package that contains an ADO.NET connection mananger using an ODBC provider. There is a user name and password configured in the connection mananger. The connection is to a DB2 database.
I install the package on SSIS by setting the package ProtectionLevel to ServerStorage. I then save the package to the server using FileSave Copy of (package name), and save it to the server. I also set the protection level there to use server storage.
When I enable package configurations (SQL Server), the package fails when run by a Job. In the log, I get the following error message from the DataReader source that uses the connection manager:
****** System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [08001] [IBM][CLI Driver] SQL30082N Security processing failed with reason "3" ("PASSWORD MISSING"). SQLSTATE=08001 at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSConnectionManager90.AcquireConnection(Object pTransaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.DataReaderSourceAdapter.AcquireConnections(Object transaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostAcquireConnections(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Object transaction) **** The DataReader fails validation. When I disable package configurations, the Job executes the package without a problem. The server that the package runs on is 64 bit.
Why do I have this password problem when package configurations are enabled? The connection manager password is include in the package configurations.
If user want to see the grand total for a measure with include all members, even though the user has limited access for that member, so how we can do using DAX?For example, let’s say the total revenue for all the divisions in a cube is $15,000. You create a role called “Division A”, and set it up so members of that role can only see the revenue for Division A, which totals $3,000. If you use a front-end tool like Excel to access the cube and use the division hierarchy to see the total revenue, you will see the revenue of $3000 for Division A, but also want to see the Grand Total for the revenue as $15,000How we can achieve above scenerio in tabular model (DAX).
