Monitor Flashes Black Then Blue On SQL Start Up
Feb 29, 2008
When starting SQL and also (not in addition to) another program the monitor flashes between a black and also a blue screen. On several occurances, I noticed the words "extracting file to ..." run donw the screen. However, after ten or twelve times of this flashing, the programs appear to run normally. Can anyone speak to a possible cause for this flashing?

Is there anywhere in the SSMS to see the start time of a currently running job, currently running it's first step, without needing to run a query?
If not, why would Microsoft decide to not show it in the job activity monitor?
SSMS = Sql Server Management Studio

Hi,
We have development and user acceptance (UA) servers. When I start a job on the development server, on the management studio, Start Jobs window and Job activity windows indicate "Executing" until the end of the job and finish with "success" or "failure"
But on the UA server, second after I start a job, Start Jobs window comes up with "success" or failure" and Job activity monitor says "idle" but Job continues to log without any error message and updates the tables. So these two windows are not reliable at all. I have to add that I have only job operator rights on the UA server.
Does anybody know what the reason is ?
Thanks

If I'm on a remote machine, meaning a computer not in the WSFC cluster, and I open SSMS 2014, point it to a SQL Instance, and open activity monitor:
1. I get all the panes and charts except % Processor Time.
2. Then, if I authenticate to the cluster's domain by mapping a drive with valid domain credentials, I'm free to put performance counters in the Perfmon - - - but SQL Activity Monitor shuts down with“The Activity Monitor is unable to execute queries against server SQL-V01INSTANCE1..Activity monitor for this instance will be placed into a paused state.Use the context menu in the overview pane to resume the activity monitor.
Additional information: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))(Mscorlib)”
3. Of course, the Activity monitor can't be resumed via the context menu. Removing counters and closing the perfmon do not work. I dropped the mapped drive and rebooted the machine. That brought back 95% of the information in the Activity monitor.
4. Further experimentation showed that any mapping of drive shares present on the SQL Server to the computer running SSMS cut off functionality of the 'overview' pane in the remote machine's SQL Activity monitor -- the monitor that had been trying to watch the server offering the shares.

So in order for print preview to work, one has to change the background of all items on the page to white?
Is that a bug that is going to be fixed soon (along with running out of memory when you print a big report)?

After installing SQL Server 2005 SP2 all of our server reports are being rendered with a black background and white text, which needless to say is reversed of how they were being drawn before installing SP2. This only happens when the report viewer is displaying the report in Print Layout? mode. Normal mode shows the report as expected.
Has anyone else had this problem or suggest a solution? Thanks in advance.

I can view my reports fine when I go to the preview window, however, when I choose the option to see the 'Print Layout', everything comes up black. The only thing I can see iss my header image.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Thanks

Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this has been addressed or not, but there were a few threads on here (after much searching) on this subject where after installing SP2, when you go to preview your reports, the background (which is set to transparent by default) renders black.
Basically your preview for reports comes up entirely black. There was a workaround where you had to change the background color to white, which did work, but the magin areas still blacked out.
I did some more searching online and came across a KB article and requested the hotfix. It's not 100% proof yet, so you have to request it via customer service.
So far it's working for me and no issues yet. I create all my reports via VS2005 and previewing is a vital need of mine. Now the black renderings are gone and everything else is back to normal, at least for now...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935436 (last review date: 10/12/2007)
Again, it's not 100% proof, so use at your own discretion. Just wanting to share!

I have a simple text box in a table in the body of a report. This renders fine via IE on both my dev box and the client.
However when rendered within a Reportviewer control on the client, the box show the text followed by lots of black squares. Running the app on my dev box is also fine - no black boxes at all.
The report resides on the server, and the server is fully patched.
Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Just trying to find out what this error code is, and how to solve this. I have the infamous "blue screen of death" but I cannot get XP to load or even to load in "safe mode". I am hoping to save my files on this laptop.
Here is the error:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacurer for driver updates. Try changing the video adapters.
Check with your harware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

I am hoping someone can guide me through this error. It appears SQL Server 2005 Management Studio might have a bug. What I am accomplishing deleting several rows from several tables inside SSMS. However, after about 4 or five deletions, I get the BLUE SCREEN of DEATH.
I can repeat this pattern.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Hi,
I have a MS Reporting Services Report which I display in a ASPX page inside a iFrame (i.e. an other ASPX page displayed inside the main ASPX page).
The report is rendered to the screen using the normal ReportViewer control.
Everything works fine, except when I click on the Print Button on the ReportViewer control, I get a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) and my computer restarts.
This is something that happens every single time I click on that Print button
Has this happenend to anyone else?
Regards,
Thysie

I'm pretty sure this problem started after applying Windows 2000 SP2 on machines running SQL 7 SP3. It may be that I only started manipulating these particular DTS jobs since that upgrade.
Problem: In EM I open a DTS package and it causes the server machine to crash to a blue screen. This has happened from a Windows 98 workstation running against a Windows 2000 Server SP2 running SQL7 SP3 and on a standalone laptop running Windows 2000 SP2 running SQL7 desktop edition SP3
Can anyone point me to more information on why this is happening?
Thanks
Doug

When I try to print a report ( report viewer control from ASP.NET application). The print dialog box opens, once I select the printer and click ok. It show printing 1 page? for 3-4 seconds and the System(computer)crashes and displays a blue screen error. This is happening for only two of my reports. And currently we have disabled the print button for these.

Hullo. I have a SQL SCHEDULER Job that keeps hanging.
1) How do I monitor this? I would like to have another Sql Job monitor the first one hourly, and send me an email if it is hanging. Isn't there a system table that tells me a job status?
1a) Once I find the job, how can I "Stop it" automatically?
2) Is there a way to have the Job stop itself it it runs for more than 20 minutes?
Thanks.

Until this week, I had full functionality of SQL Monitor`s capabilities to monitor SQL Server. Now, when I select our Production Server and attempt to `Add to Chart` I am unable to view/select any SQL Server... entries in the `Object` dropdown list box. When I click the down arrow with the Development server selected I DO see all of the SQL Server selections. This inability to `see` the SQL Server functions in the Performance Monitor for the Production server exists regardless of whether I attempt to view them from a Win NT 4.0 Workstation or at the Server`s console. Again, I had full functionality from both locations last week. The logins have not changed. What has changed?
ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. I need to monitor this system and I`m running blind at the monent.
TIA

Hello,
I do all my monitoring locally for disk space, locks, blocking, I've 10 production servers, We need to centralised the monitoring server so from one server all the monitors can be done. Does anyone has any ideas how memory, cpus consumption, disk space, all alerts, locks, blocking, log space and job completition monitoring can be handled.
Any idea or guidance is appreciated
