Most Common Connection Method To SQL 2005
Aug 8, 2007I am currently using ADO from an application to connect to SQL 2005. Is this
the preferred way, or is that the most common method? I was told I need to
use an API. Which API? Thanks.

Preferred Method To Incorporate Common Table Expression (CTE) Functionality
Feb 26, 2007What is the best approach to utilize a recursive CTE (Common Table Expression) to filter a resultset? The CTE function is used in all application queries to limit recursively the final resultset based on a provided hierarchical organization identifier. i.e. join from some point in the organization chart on down based on an organization id. I would prefer that the query could be run real-time. i.e. not having to persist the prediction portion of the results to a sql relational table and then limiting the persisted results based on the CTE function.
It appears that I can use a linked server to access the prediction queries directly from SQL Server (link below). I believe that I might also be able to deploy a CTE recursive function within a .net assembly to the Analysis Server but I doubt that recursive functionality is availalble without a linked SQL Server.

I am getting the following error if I am using the package "Transaction Option=Required" while running through Sql Job:
The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "<connection name>" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
while I running the SSIS package on BI environment, I am getting the following error:
[Connection manager "<connection name>"] Error: The SSIS Runtime has failed to enlist the OLE DB connection in a distributed transaction with error 0x8004D00A "Unable to enlist in the transaction.".
I know the alternative solution is to make the "Transaction Option=Supported", but in my case I have run the whole flow in a single transaction. I came to know that this has been fixed in the service pack1(ref. to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914375). FYI.. some time it was running successful.
I have taken all the necessary step to run the SSIS package in a distributed transaction(like the steps for MSDTC) and also created the package flow in a sequence.
I was going through the link - http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=160340&SiteID=1 but all those didn't solve my problem.
If anyone can help me it will be great. or it is a bug in SSIS?

But I am getting the following errors. Actually the File Exist in Path. May I know What is cause of the issue? Do I need to give any permission to execute the package.

Fastest Connection Method?
Nov 17, 2006I am trying to find some info on the fastest connection transport for an app that is running on the same box as a SQL 2005 instance. The app does a large number of updates (high volume of data).. win32 using native ODBC. I am trying to find info on which connection mechanism is best... socket, pipes, etc. I read somewhere that there is a file mapped method available but i cannot find info on that either. Also, is there any performance difference between the old SQL OCBD drive and the new SQL Native Client OCBD drive?

I am working on SQL Server 2005 (x64) with Windows Server 2003 (x64) operating system. I am having a major issue in SSIS. Here is the detailed explanation of the issue :
I have an EXCEL file in 2003 / 2007 version. It contains some data. I want to import the data using SSIS into SQL Server 2005 (x64) database table. I have taken "EXCEL FILE SOURCE" and "SQL Server DESTINATION". It was failed on importing data. Surprisingly it works fine in SQL Server 2005 (x32). Can you please explain why it is NOT woking on (x64) ?

I have a DB2 database on aix server. we had to move some tables to SQL Server 2005. We created individual SSIS files for each table and saved it on the desktop. When I run the package file by double clicking on it the "Execute Package Utility" dialogue box appears and I can click on the "Execute" button and everything goes fine.
But if I try to open the same package using "SQL Server Business Intelligence Devlopment Studio" or to run the same package with DTEXEC /f <Filename> , it gives me below error.

So now I got the solution from SQL Server 2005. I.e. Common Table Expressions, So I got the syntax and other functionality, Now my doubts is how do implement the CTE in SQL Server 2005, where can I store the CTE in SQL Server 2005.
How can I call that CTE from ASP.NET 2.0 using C#?
CTE is replacing the Stored Procedure and Views, because it is memory based object in SQL Server 2005.
How can I implement the CTE, where can I write the CTE and where can I store the CTE.
And how can I call the CTE from ASP.NET 2.0 using C#.

SSIS - AcquireConnection Method Call To The Connection Manager Failed

I am facing a problem with the connection method, it says,
"[Store [10069]] Error: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "Data Source Destination" failed with error code 0xC001A004. "
(Store - Look up component.)
This problem occurs only when i am using Transaction option, all the component(Look up,Destination etc) says the same error message in the Pre-Execute phase. But i can open the component and can able to see the data in preview.
And also this is not occuring in our testing environment. We have copied the same pakages in our production, the package failed stating the above. I can not simulate the same problem in my testing server.
Has anyone faced this kind of problem? please help me to solve this.

Server 2005 isn't accepting any connection other than SQL Management
Studio from the local machine. However, even that's exhibiting strange
behavior (please see below for more details).
I've read
through all the common errors regarding enabling remote connections via
the SAC tool, making sure protocols are enabled, etc. This case seems
to be completely outside. Any advice appreciated.

is the connection string in you app or DSN? N/A. Can't connect via any
remote method, including client Control Panel > ODBC > create
DSN, SQL Server Enterprise Manager, third party application.

client fails to connect, what is the client error messages? Several,
depending on method: "server does not exist or access denied", "error
has occurred... under default settings, SQL Server does not accept
remote connections", etc.
Is the client remote or local to the SQL server machine? Remote

AcquireConnection Method Call Fails When Scheduling A Job With Excel Connection Manager?
May 9, 2006I have a SSIS package that reads the data from an Excel file using an Excel Connection Manager and imports the data to a table on a SQL Server 2005 DB instance.
When I run this package locally on the server the package being on the file system, the package executes perfectly. Now I upload the package to the msdb database and the run the package from there and the package still executes successfully.
Now I schedule the package to run as a SQL Server Agent job and the package fails and when the logging is enabled I see this in the log file;

I am wondering why the AcquireConnection method call is failing when the package is scheduled? I am running the step as a SQL Agent Service Account and it is the Local System account that starts up the SQL Server Agent and Server and is an Administrator on the box.

Feb 17, 2006The package runs fine if I run it by itself. Unfortunately we want to call it from another package and when we do so it fails everytime with the following error; "AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "BPCSF" failed with error code 0xC0202009." This package is calling an AS400 and pulling data from it into a staging environment. The task that is failing is 4th task on the list and is the 3rd task to call the AS400 environment. If I need to provide more information I would be happy to do so. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

“AcquireConnection Method Call To The OLEDB Connection Manager For SQL Server Failed� Error
Feb 9, 2006I have an SSIS package which takes input from Flat file and transfer the data to SQL Server using OLEDB Destination Data Flow Item. The OLEDB Connection Manager used for the destination is configured to use SQL Server Authentication for the user €˜sa€™. The package works fine without enabling the configurations. But when I enable package configuration and save the configuration of the various connection managers in an XML configuration file and then run the package it gives the following error in the validation phase:
[OLE DB Destination [21]] Error: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "<Connection Manager Name>" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
And after the validation phase is complete the following error message is given for the package execution:
[Connection manager "<Connection Manager Name>"] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E4D. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client€? Hresult: 0x80040E4D Description: "Login failed for user 'sa'."
Has anyone else run into this?
I am running
SQL 2005 9.0.1399 and VS 2005 8.0.50727.42 (RTM.50727.4200) on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1.

Oct 9, 2007I can run this package in Studio and it works fine, but when I run it from SQL Server Agent, it throws this error. Does anybody know what would cause this problem. This appears to occur during validation for the package because none of the data flow steps run. The connection being used is the same connection used in all of the data flows. If validation is done in order, then prior steps using the same connection are passing validation.

I wanna solve this problem (if you can helpme....), recently, I'm trying to migrate an old SQL 7 to the new SQL 2005 server enterprise edition, I have no problem to import the data, users, stored procedures, etc. and all work fine, I can connect troght ODBC from the others computers, including some older pentium 1 mmx 200 mhz. with WIN98 (yes!).

The AcquireConnection Method Call To The Connection Manager 'Blah Blah' Failed With Error Code 0xC0202009.

I am struggling with this error and it's starting to get to me!
I have setup a simple project with just a data flow task. In this task, it retrieves a simple record "Select * From Table1 WhereId=1". The connection is an OLE Db connection using Advantage Oledb Provider (a provider for accessing dBase). It is accessing a Novell network drive. I have setup the package to both "EncryptSensitiveWithPassword" and "DontSaveSensitive". Both times i have received this error.
The funny thing is, when I set the package to "EncryptSensitiveWithPassword" and I setup a job to run the package, it never asks me for the password even though I set one up! I have a previous package (few months ago I made) that accessed the same database on the same Network drive and it works! It also asks me for a password when I try to modify or run the package (b/c I set it to "EncryptW/Password").
Can anyone give any light into this problem?

Sep 18, 2007Hi-I have a sql server database, and am wring web apps to access it.I've created databases different ways, and ended up with different owners (eg dbo, nt authorityetwork services...)I also have connection strings using windows authentication, and some using a user name and password.I have read that using windows authentication is the best way to go, as far as security goes, but I have noticed some connectivity issues when I upload the site to the server, and test it remotely. What is the safest 'owner' of the database, and what's the safest way to connect?Thanks Dan

Nov 11, 2005I am running the Sept CTP. I have created a SSIS package that pulls data from a text file and inserts into a database. When I run the package on the DB server it runs fine. I have moved the package the the web server (we are attempting to kick off the package from a web site) and we get connections errors. We are running the package using dtexec from the command line.

Jul 24, 2006heres my problem, since I migrated to SQL-Server 2005, I was able to use the Row_Number() Over Method to make my Custom Paging Stored Procedure better. But theres onte thing that is still bothering me, and its the fact the Im still using and old and classic Count instruction to find my total of Rows, which slow down a little my Stored Procedure. What I want to know is: Is there a way to use something more efficiant to count theBig Total of Rows without using the Count instruction??? heres my stored procedure:
SELECT RowNum, morerecords, Ad_Id FROM (Select ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY Ad_Id) AS RowNum, morerecords = (Select Count(Ad_Id) From Ads) FROM Ads) as testWHERE RowNum Between 11 AND 20
The green part is the problem, the fields morerecords is the one Im using to count all my records, but its a waste of performance to use that in a custom paging method (since it will check every records, normally, theres a ton of condition with a lot of inner join, but I simplified things in my exemple)...I hope I was clear enough in my explication, and that someone will be able to help me. Best Method For Installing SSIS On Production SQL 2005 Sp1 Active/passive Cluster?

I need to install the SSIS components on the referenced database server. I believe the SSIS components are cluster aware, so I was planning on just doing add/remove and selecting the components. Rather than breaking the cluster apart to patch the components back to SP1, I was thinking of just running the SP2 install right over the top of the running cluster to bring everything up to SP2.
I'm looking for any suggestions/comments on whether this is the proper way to proceed or if I'm going to have a problem.

Attempting To Obtain Report Name Or Identiy Using CheckAccess Method In SQL Reporting Services 2005
Jan 5, 2007I found some dead-end threads regarding this issue but have not seen a clean solution.
Utilizing a Reporting Services security extension, I can't find a way of obtaining the reports name or identity from within the CheckAccess() method so I can use it to query an external database to ascertain authorization. In other words, my company requires the creation of custom roles that can be used from within our ASP application and well as being honored by SQL Reporting Services 2005.
If anyone can help, I would really appreciate your time!

I have some questions about connection strings.
BACKGROUND...
Note that I am using the "SQL Native Client OLE DB Provider", SQL Sever 2005 Express, ASP.NET, C#.NET, and VS.NET 2005.
Note that I do not want to use the "Attach a database file" type of connection string.
Note that I am using the site http://www.ConnectionStrings.com as a reference.
Note that this "Standard security" connection string...<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Server=MYTESTOFFICESERVERS;Database=MyDatabase;Uid=MyDatabaseUser;Pwd=MyDatabasePassword;" />...does not work and causes the following run-time error...A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.)
Note that this "Trusted connection" connection string...<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Server=MYTESTOFFICESERVERS;Database=MyDatabase;Trusted_Connection=yes;" />...works but is less-than ideal because it uses a Trusted Connection rather than a Username/Password combination.
QUESTIONS...
(A) What exactly does the error in Item 4 mean?
(B) Do 4 and 5 imply that one must use a Trusted_Connection for all SQL Server 2005 Express connection strings when the database does not reside in the web application's App_Data folder or use a "Attach a database file" type of connection string?
(C) Are there any alternatives?
(D) What do you suggest?

Problem: ColA (Source) Rounding error to PARTY_NO (Destination)
I have a field of text of in a flat file that the flat file connection manager Source picks up correctly €œ70000893€?
However when it gets the OLE DB Connection Destination the data has changed to 70000896. That€™s before its even Written to the database.
The only clue that something is wrong in the middle is the great Data viewer shows the number as 7.000009E+07
Other clues looking at the data it appears there is a rounding error on only the number that dont end in 00

SQL Server 2000 Migration To SQL Server 2005 Collation Change - Method?

Recently moved a SQL2000 database to SQL2005.
Collation on SQL 2000 database server was SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
Colaltion on SQL 2005 database server is Latin1_General_CI_AS
After restoring the SQL 2000 database on SQL 2005 we observed that the database collation was SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS. We have altered the database collation to Latin1_General_CI_AS. We understand this will work for all new objects created on the database but existing objects (prior to the collation change) will continue to have the 'SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS' collation.
What is the best method to change the collation of the older columns to 'Latin1_General_CI_AS' -
1) Run ALTER TABLE ALTER COLUMN <colname> <datatype> COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS <nullability>
on each varchar/char column
or
2) For each table
BCP out data
DROP TABLE
RECREATE TABLE (taking the new collation Latin1_General_CI_AS)
BCP in data
3) Other methods?
