Most Effective Method Of Managing The Data?

Mar 2, 2004

I have a large SQL Database im building, in the database there is a table for each user with certain things listed. One problem is, sometimes in a few collums, there will be like 100things listed, instead of one line.

For Example:

Products in that some users will have 1 product like "apples" but others will have many more products.

What is the most effective way of listing the data? Create new tables? Seperate the products with comma's or spaces?

How do I do it, and keep the overall db size smaller?

Thanks

What Is The Most Effective Method Of Record Locking?

Feb 25, 2004

I have built my own functions in the past that involve a timestamp and record lock column in each table (to support some other DB).

I am currently using SQL 2000 and was wondering if there is a better (OK, easier) way to lock records and even prevent edits from taking place when a record is open.

Any input appreciated.

Integration Services :: SSIS - Managing Data Integrity When Importing Sharepoint Data

Sep 28, 2015

I setup this package to import data from a Sharepoint list to a SQL Server data table. The primary key of my SQL table is mapped to the Title column of my Sharepoint list. There is a possibility that duplicate values will be entered in the Title field of the Sharepoint list. So when importing data into my table via SSIS, my package always error-out when there it comes across duplicate values. how you others have managed data integrity when importing from a Sharepoint list with the Title column being mapped to the primary key of a table.

Managing SQL Data

Aug 16, 2004

Hello,

I am currently working on a large project that will be developed using MS SQL. I have been considering two options when it comes the creation of the database. The first option is to create a sepereate table for each of my clients. The tables would be labeled by their Id number then the tables reqular name. Fore example : 781_Users.

The other option is to create a different database for each of the clients.

I just need the data to be seperated between clients, it cant mix. Please just give me your opinion on which option you would consider if you were operating a large project.

Thanks in advance!

Managing Data Sources For Reports In SharePoint Inegration Mode

Jul 18, 2007

Through SharePoint you can upload an RDS file and then click manage data sources to hook upthe report to a proper shared data source. Does anyone know if you can do this through the SharePoint object model? We don't deploy our reports using the designer and we don't want to upload the reports using SharePoint. We want to add the reports to a document library using the object model, when we do this we need to manage the data source so that it will run.

Thanks,

Managing Data Between SQL Server 2000 And SQL Server 2005

Apr 14, 2008

Hello,
I have SQL Server 2000 and 2005 running on the same server. My current system is in SQL Server 2000 and the new system is in SQL Server 2005. My users will be using SQL Server 2000 for the most part,  But for the part the processes that have been migrated to 2005, they will be using SQL Server 2005 as well. The database schema is different on both servers eventhough the data will be similar in most respects.
Is there is a way through which any data that is inserted/updated in SQL Server 2000 via content Management System/ manually/ via a batch job, the data is automatically populated in SQL Server 2005 tables or vice versa?
Please advice at the earliest.
Thanks.

What's The Best Method For Updating Related Data?

Jul 31, 2006

Can you describe the best (or your preferred) method for updating data held in a related table using Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server.
For example; if you had a stock control system with the product names and current stock levels in one table and all stock movements in and out held in another table, what is the best, fastest, safest and most reliable method of inserting a stock movement and then updating the current stock level?
I have tried a couple of different methods but would really appreciate a wider range of opinions.

Reliable, Fast Method Of Exporting Data To Sql

Jul 5, 2007

Hi,

For this scenario, what is the best method of exporting data to sql 2005.

I want to export data from desktop app across internet to sql which can do on a row by row basis, but this is very slow and if the connection goes down halfway then pretty much buggered.

What is the best, reliable and fastest way to copy data across internet (several thousand rows), I have read about Bulk Insert etc... but also how would get around an upload and crashes half way, is there a way of uploading and until the whole upload goes through then the data is inserted into the database.

Would appreciate any guidance.

Is this not possible? I hope I'm overlooking the obvious here.

RDA Pull Method Not Creating Tables/inserting Data

Aug 7, 2006

I can't see what is going on, this is the situation:

I call the Pull method, specify the table to be affected, the query to be used, the connection string to the remote SQL server, the tracking options (On) and the Error table. The pull method executes with no errors however, no table is ever created. I don't know why, here's what I have done so far:

I read the SQL BOOKS ONLINE help on preparing RDA, I set up the IIS virtual directory for anonymous access and on the connection string I send in the user name and password for the SQL server, I went into the SQL Server and grated access to the user name to the database that I am going to access and I made the user a db_owner.

So, according to SQL BOOKS ONLINE I have everything right however, it won't populate, so right now I am open to suggestions on how to get this to work, heres the code:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
string rdaOleDbConnectString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=<Server>;Initial Catalog=<DB>; User Id=<User>;Password=<Password>"; (it's not exactly like this, but in it has the proper values)
string connectionString = "Data Source="\Program Files\client\db\MobileDB.sdf"";

SqlCeRemoteDataAccess rda = new SqlCeRemoteDataAccess("http://10.1.1.206/mobile/sqlcesa30.dll",
connectionString);

IList _tableNames = new ArrayList();
IList _queries = new ArrayList();

############
Code that prepares tables and queries
############

for (int counter = 0; counter < _tableNames.Count; counter++)
{
rda.Pull(_tableNames[counter].ToString(), _queries[counter].ToString(), rdaOleDbConnectString, RdaTrackOption.TrackingOn, "MobileError");
}

the For loop runs with no problems but no data is ever put (or tables created) into the Mobile DB.

Ho To Make Data Source Web Method Execute Once Per A Report?

Jan 11, 2007

result of a web method call. This memthod returns all data necessary
for the report. Thus, all of about 20 report datasets query the same
web method with the same parameters and then select appropriate data
with different ElementPath expressions. It's so inefficient and
time-consuming! I cant have respective web method for every dataset.
How can I configure SSRS to call web method only once while the report
is executing? Or how can I leverage the performance at all?

Triggers - Possible To Specify Effective Timeframe?

Oct 6, 2006

My gut tells me this can't be done quite the way I'm hoping, but maybe someone has a little insight...

Is it possible to specify a specific timeframe for which triggers should be effective? I have some make-shift replication tasks which are currently done via pure insert/update queries and various times throughout the day. In the am our "target" table is completely wiped and repopulated from our "source" table which resides on a different server.

I'm hoping to setup update triggers throughout the day to catch changes to our "source" table. These triggers should only be active for a six-hour period throughout the day. Unfortunately true replication isn't an option here.

I can think of a couple ways to take care of this such as checking GETDATE() from the trigger itself and deciding whether or not to do anything, or perhaps scheduling a job to enable and disable triggers at the appropriate time. Is there a way to setup such a schedule for the trigger itself?

Working With Single Effective Date

May 20, 2008

I have a table with a single effective date, rather than both a start and stop date. I have to be able to match up this table to another one with service information in it and am not sure how to get the correct record selected.

So in table one I have a personID, effective date, and lots of other fields. There are also multiple records for each personID, so say personID 1 has records with effective dates of 1/1/2007, 6/1/2007, and 1/1/2008.

Table two has personID, Service Date, and lots of other fields.

So if I am looking to match up the effective row from table one to a record in table two with a service date of 8/1/2007, how do I get the db to locate and return the record with an effective date of 6/1/2007, and only this record?
