Move SQL Server Express .mdf File To SQL Server 2000

Is this even possible? I tried to move an existing Sql Server Express .mdf file to SQL Server 2000 by copying the .mdf file to the server's folder and then tried to attach it. I get:
Error 602: Could not find row in sysindexes for database ID 9, object ID 1, index ID1. Run DBCC CHECKTABLE on sysindexes.
I realize that I'm moving back a version in SQL, however the structure of the database is very simple. Does anyone know?
Even if I can just script the thing to SQL 2000 would be helpful, however the .mdf is a file within my ASP.Net site, and does not show up in my Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express under the appropriate SERVERNAMESQLEXPRESS either, so I can't figure out how to script it out?

Hi,My webhost (1and1) is running SQL Server 2000 and their web tool supports the import of .bak files. However, when I try to import my .bak files created in SQL Server Management Studio Express I get the following error:"The backed-up database has on-disk structure version 611. The server
supports version 539 and cannot restore or upgrade this database.
RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally."I have Googled this error and learnt that 2005 .bak files are not compatible with 2000 .bak files. I'm just wondering if there are any work arounds to this or alternative tools that I can create 2000 compatible .bak files from from 2000/2005 .mdf files.Thanks in advance.

We have an old machine which holds SQL server 2000 database. We need to migrate a whole database to a new machine which has SQL server 2005.
When we tried to move whole database using Import and Export Wizard, only tables can be selected to import/export. However we want to import/export the whole database, including tables, stored procedure, view, etc. Which tool should we use?

We have a SQL Server 2000 ent edition sp4 with 3 small databases and one 4 GB database which is REPLICATED
The Server has been bouncing like a yoyo today because of a disk controller problem and I am preparing to move the Instance to a whole new server this afternoon. The new Server will have the same IP and name as the original server.
Any suggestions for the easiest or most seamless way to make this happen? preferably using Backup and Restore since they plan on taking the old server down completely and then building a new server with the same name and IP ... any suggestions would be appreciated.

I used aspnet_regsql to put membership tables, etc on sql server 2005.
Is there a tool to help me build the web.config statement to point to these tables?

Hi guys,
I have tried to use the sp_help_revlogin script to move logins from a sql 2000 server to a sql 2005 server. It works for users that have a password. But if the password is blank it will fail. Is there a work around for this since I can't change the users passwords?
I have also tried SSIS package but that too doesn't work because of the same reason.
Can anyone help...

I am able to run SSIS packages as SQL Server Agent jobs with a Control Flow items "File system task", if I move a file (test.txt) from a drive (c on the server (where SQL Agent jobs run) to a subdirectory on the same drive. But, if I try to move a file on a network drive, the package fail.
What I can do to solve this issue.

I'm moving all objects of one database 'A' to another databse 'B' in the same server.
There are common users under both the database.
How can I ensure that the database users get the same roles and persmission on the new objects(Moved through DTS) in 'B' .

Hello,
I'm in the process of moving a SQL Server 2000 to a new server. I have installed the new server added the latest sp. When I try to restore the system databases (Master, msdb) I get the following error
"the database xxxx.bak Cannot be restored because it was created by a different version of the server restore database is terminating abnormally"
I have looked at everything that I know of and both servers seem to be running the same versions of everything.
Can I just export the databases the the new server?

And know will i move all databas to i a MSSQL 2000 there i only can have one databas, And know i have ASP.NET logged in Databas and one site databas.

We needed to replace our Motherboard on a server running win 2K Adv.Server with SQL server 2000. After replacing, we could not bringthe system back with the previous OS. So, we have decided tomigrate to Windows 2003 server and install SQL svr on it.On the old server, the SQL DB is residing on a seperate disk.Is there any way one can install SQL on the new server and importthe data from the disk. I have been asked to move a system running MS SQL 2000 Server from a workgroup to a domain. The SQL server is running in SQL Authentication and the services are running as local system.
Will SQL Server break after the move?
Any advice will help. I thought I remember this being the case, but possibly only with Windows Authentication.

I just installed SQL 2005 on a new box. I want to move a database from a SQL 2000 server to the new server. Can I detach the database, copy it and attach it in the new server without having problems?
I'm concerned that if the datafile is in SQL2000 format, when I connect it to SQL2005 server, will it still be in old format or will it upgrade?....or is this something you don't worry about....and why?

How do I move a tab serperated file into a table in SQL express using sql express? I need simple fast way to to this.
I can export all my access file into tab or comma files and then build the new tables and import them. I tried upsizing the table in access but sql express will not accept them at all and I cant find a way around it.

I am moving a database from one server to another. I am going to replace the old server to the new one. I heard that you can move the datfiles and put them in the same directory, and sql server will pickup the datafiles based on the system tables. I have had SQL Server Express and Sql Server Management Studio Express installed on my machine for some time and recently tried to install a trial of SQL Server 2005 as well. (Yes, I'm migrating from Visual Studio Express to Visual Studio Professional, just as in tended!)
Everything went fine except that nothing seemed to be installed. I searched in all the obvious places - both on the Start/Programs menu and on the hard-drive: nothing.
A check under Add/Remove Programs showed that Sql Server 2005 Express was installed, but called SQL Server 2005.
So after a number of retries in which the install program kept saying that there was nothing to install, I selected every option under Advanced in the intall process. This resulted in stuff being installed and I now have SQL Server 2005 running on my machine, but no SQL Server Manager icon.
My questions are:
Where can I find the SQL Server Manager executeable?
Has anyone installed SQL Server Express, SQL Server Mangement Studio Express, SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio on a single machine successfully? If so, what order did you install them in? (I'm planning on uninstalling everything SXQL Server related and starting again.)

I am not sure if this is possible or not, but I have to at least ask.
I have a SQL Reporting Services project that has a QA server version and then a Production server version. So when requested changes are made to the reports, I make the changes in Visual Studio and then push to QA. After the changes have been tested and approved, I then push the changes to the Production server.
I have come across an issue, where requested changes were made in Visual Studio (a lot of changes), and pushed to QA. The users now have changed their minds and they want instead to stay with what is in production. So, I am looking for a way to recover the report file on the production web server, bring it back into my visual studio project to replace the report that I had changed.
Is this possible, or will I have to start over and step one and reverse the changes in Visual Studio.
Let me know.

Hi Friends,I have installed SQL server 2005 Express Edition and SQL Server managementI have a SQL server 2000 db backup file. I try create a new database in my SQL server 2005 express Edition and try restore that backup file from device, it only searching for file with *.bak and *.tm extension! I tried generate backup file with .bak extension and tried restore into SQl server 2005 express edition but still it is not allowing to do so! I also tried copy my database's data file and log file and paste it under SQL server 2005 express edition Data folder and still not able to read the tables.Is that any ways to do restoring for this SQL server 2000 backup file into SQL server 2005 express edition! I'm currently running sql server 2000 enterprise edition on my machine and was wondering what would happen if i installed 2005 express edition and vice versa? I've found many blogs and post about compatibility issues with the 2005 Express Beta version but couldn't find any news with full version.
