I notice when I copy an SSIS package 'A' to a new package 'B', the new package 'B' will generate a "login failed for user" message in the data flow components. To copy I "save copy of Package 'A' as."
Some config info:
Package ProtectionLevel = EncryptSensitiveWithPassword
Connections are Data Sources
Connection strings with password are stored using PackageConfigurations to an SQLServer table. I've verified Package 'A' is in fact using the config table (e.g. it is not using a password or user stored in the package)
Data connectios are all SQLServer Native OLE DB Client
The account is an SQLServer account (not integrated security)
The original Package 'A' works flawlessly and I get success when I test the connections in Package 'B'.
But executing package 'B' I get: The error message I get is: [Connection manager "MyConnection"] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E4D. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E4D Description: "Login failed for user 'dwuser'.".
Does anyone know why this would occur and/or how to work around it? I saw another thread where a potential workaround is to create a new data flow task and copy all the data flow components to that task. That won't work well for us because the data flow is moderately complex and when you copy and paste it, SSIS completely re-orders the layout.
This is a typical data warehouse ETL setup where there is a master package that executes child packages (e.g. 'A', and 'B' mentioned above) that each perform the ETL for a specific dimension or fact table.
Thanks for any help,
Lee Cascio

What is the best way to do this. I can not upgrade the sql server 2000 installation to 2005. Basically i hoping all i need to do is backup the 2000 db and then restore it on the new sql 2005 server.
Is this possible...thanks for all help.

We have purchased a new Development SQL Server that is running SQL Server 2005. Our existing Development SQL Server is running SQL 2000.
How can I move the DTS packages from the SQL 2000 server to the new SQL 2005 server? I will be upgrading them to SSIS at some point, but don't have the time now.

Recently moved a couple of dbs from SQL 2000 -> SQL 2005 (different machine). Just restored the dbs on the new server from a full backup of the old one. Everything is fine but...
Some queries are returning out-of-order results (for records added since the migration). I tracked this down to the indexes. I completely rebuilt and reorganized the indexes (online) through the manager interface. This helped provide correct ordering for existing records, but new records added since the re index are still out-of-order.
Looking for a way to permanently fix the indexes so I don't have to constantly rebuild them.
Thanks.

i'm using the Enterpirse library logger to write logs into a database.
When choosing connection string i choose the database i want in the "connection properties" dialog box and
push 'Test connection' button.
everything goes well.
then i open the SQL Server Management studio express and connect to the databse to check some things,
from that point on , when i push the 'Test Connection' button in the Enterprise library i get the error:
"cannot open user default database. Login failed. login failed for user My'server/MyuserName'"
even when i close the sql server manager , it is still stuck - the connection test doesn't work anymore....
it only work when i restart the computer.
why ?

I just installed SQL 2005 on a new box. I want to move a database from a SQL 2000 server to the new server. Can I detach the database, copy it and attach it in the new server without having problems?
I'm concerned that if the datafile is in SQL2000 format, when I connect it to SQL2005 server, will it still be in old format or will it upgrade?....or is this something you don't worry about....and why?
Thanks,
Craig

Just installed SQL Server 2005 and tested my old VS 2005 ASPnet websites, which were connected toSQL Server 2000 databases before. All my websites were created for local HTTP applications, coded with a connection string with User ID and Password. The SQL Server 2000 was configured as mixed authentication (i.e. with User ID and Password). These websites worked very well with SQL Server 2000 database server.Testing my old VS 2005 websites with SQL Server 2005 database, showed a 'Login failed for a User ''.' error msgalthough the 'Test Connection' on VS 2005 design showed a perfect query for e.g. a GridView control. I have assured that the UserID/Password were correct for Management Studio Security object'slogin and Database Security's user. The server instance was configured with mixed authentication mode. One thing I am not sure of is, when clicking the Management Studio icon, a Connection dialog showed up, asking for a Windows or MIxed authentication? I just stayed with the Windows authentication. What does the authenticationmode have anything to do with the VS 2005 website connection? Should I change to mixed authetnication mode?TIA,Jeffrey

Hello,
I am trying to migrate reporting services from SQL server 2000 to SQL 2005. I followed the migration steps listed in one of the TechNet documents. Installed SQL 2005 and SP2.
Backed up existing SQL 2000 databases and restored on SQL 2005.
Went to Configuration tool and then to the Database setup. Connected to SQL 2005.
Clicked on the Upgrade button. The upgrade fails and I always get the following errors:
"The database version (C.0.6.54) does not match your reporting services installation. You must upgrade your Reporting services database"
Then I get this exception:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot find the user 'RSExecRole', because it does not exist or you do not have permission.

I have not been able to install SQL Express SP2 (standard or advanced) on Vista Ultimate (RTM). Every time I try to install, I get the following error message:
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'sa'. Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information.
When I check the logs, the only information I can find that is at all useful is:

Has anyone else run into this issue and resolved it? I have seen posts for earlier versions of SQL Express that said to run the configuration manager and change the account types to Local System rather than Network Service, but I don't have the configuration manager installed. If I set the accounts to use Local System by changing the login info during setup, I get the same error.
Thanks,
Mark

Hey Microsoft: this affects development that will eventually sell a lot of seats on SharePoint Server 2007. If you guys and gals can't straighten out this mess, you can't expect custom solutions with custom web parts. So pay attention for your own good. Yes, SPS 2007 is what this is all about. I've created simpe web parts and deployed them, same VS 2005, but I need local development and debugging for more complex stuff. I'm really disappointed that you have no solution for this problem.
I've seen other posts on this, but the result seems to be the same: if you fix it, it's by accident, not by design.
1. I created a blank ASP.NET web site
2. I added a web part manager
3. I added a web part zone
I get the error described above. I have no idea why SQL Server settings are so screwed up.
I've tried all the stuff in the other posts - security settings, command line installation, etc. None of those worked.
The default template(s) don't copy anything into App_Data, nor create an empty folder. I don't know why that is. I have other web sites working just fine, but they use remote SQL databases, or local ones I created, and didn't need profile management (no forms authentication, no web parts, no web zones).
I've also started out with a local database, using SQL Authentication, later moving it to a remote server, and never had any problems. The SQL Server developer edition and Express seem to work just fine. I can also debug stored procs when the .mdf is in App_Data. So the problem isn't one of connectivity.
What would cause the default screw-up? This would seem to point from all directions to a problem with Visual Studio (2005)? The installation is defalt - perhaps some extras included (copy local), but nothing unusual. AJAX for ASP.net is installed, but not used in the above "default web site" trial. Likewise Syncfusion's tools, which work fine on other developer workstations at this same location, all of which are from the same image (purchased at the same time & imaged). That web parts work on other boxes, running all the same management tools (anti-virus, remote sys admin/sms etc.) makes none of those suspect.
I think Microsoft needs to have a clean problem solution and publish it. SP1 certainly doesn't fix it. What's worse is the stupid, lame error message. "I can't open the default database". Well, what did you try? What do you think the default is? What settings are you using? Why is there no debugging information other than the usual worthless trace information showing it's all deep within the ProviderBase and SqlClient namespace code? How is that supposed to be helpful?
If anyone has anything solid, not guesses, I'd like to know.

SQL Server 2005 Express keeps putting in a different password than the one I chose. I would check the properties on the login I want to change. Then I change the password and it gets accepted. When I try my web application, I get the dreaded "login failed for <loginname>". I look at the properties again and see my password never change. Is this a bug? I ever tried this syntax to no avail:
CREATE LOGIN <loginname> WITH PASSWORD='<mypassword>' CHECK_EXPIRATION = OFF, CHECK_POLICY = OFF

Hi all
I am using Windows XP Prof, SP2 and having Sql Server 2000, SP4 and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP1, and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit SP1 installed. The toolkit is the one which created me the DTS folder in the root with this applicattion:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSBinnDTSWizard.exe
I start now this Wizard and choose from Sql server - which is my 2000 version and to my sql express version, id/pw or windows authentication. I receive then the message:
Cannot continue for the following reason:
1) You have chosen a server that does not contain any packages.
2) The server you have chosen is neither a sql server 2000 nor sql server 7
The SSIS Migration Wizard can only load packages from those servers.
Nice. I am having Sql server 2000 and want to go to 2005.
What I am doing from ? Do I need to create some packages on Sql server 2000 to be able to proceed this task ?

Chrs

I have a database that I am trying to copy to sql server 2005 and when I copy it the "Identity Seed" property loses its value.
I have tried to use the "Export" method by right clicking on the database then going to "Tasks" then "Export Data"
This copies all of the data but it removes the "Identity Seed" value.
When I run the "copy database" function it will also copy all of the data in the database but it will still not keep the "Identity Seed" value
I have many tables in the database with the identity seed field set to 1 on the primary key so that it will automatically create the primary key for each record.
Without this errors will occur in my web application because it thinks that I am trying to enter a null value into the primary key when it is supposed to auto populate.
When I export it with sql server 2005 it turns it back to zero.
The export function worked fine in Sql server 2000
The only way I can get it to work is by backing up the database and restoring it, but this is very time consuming and adds many steps to the process, and also makes it so that I have to overwrite my old database with the same name.
Is there a way to use the export function or the copy database function to retain the Identity Seed value
I really need this to continue do the switch to 2005 server. It seems like this may be a bug of some sort

Hi
I have picked up the same problem that quite a few folks have identified.
I have created a SSRS Solution and have a report which I am trying to deploy to the Report Manager.
The project 'builds' locally but when I try to deploy it, a User Login Box pops up.
Has any one been able to ascertain what causes the problem and how does one go about resolving the problem.
I am using Window Authentication on WIndows XP SP2 with SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition and Visual Studio 2005 Professional
I have not 'tinkered' with IIS,.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have lots of problems with the connection. I've connected many dropdownlists to the database and i didn't have problems at all. I also try an example of an ASP.NET book:
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString= "<%$ ConnectionStrings:CIPPEC%>"
InsertCommand=
"INSERT INTO
[member] ([first_name], [last_name], [malefemale], [yearborn])
VALUES
(@first_name, @last_name, @malefemale, @yearborn)">
<InsertParameters>
<asp:FormParameter Name="first_name" Type="String"
FormField="FirstTextBox" />
<asp:FormParameter Name="last_name" Type="String"
FormField="LastTextbox"/>
<asp:FormParameter Name="malefemale" Type="Int32"
FormField="MFRadioButton" />
<asp:FormParameter Name="yearborn" Type="Int32"
FormField="YearDropDown" />
</InsertParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>
And it worked well. But when i try to connect my page with:
Dim connect As New Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection( _
"Server=glgrand-arSQLEXPRESS;UID="WindowsStartupUser";password="WindowsStartupPass"; database=CIPPEC")
connect.Open()
Dim cmd As New Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand( _
"INSERT PRUEBA (PersonaJuridica, NombreRazonSocial, Nombre, Segundo_nombre, Apellido) " & _
"VALUES (txtPerJur, txtRazSoc, txtName, txtSecondName, txtApellido)", _
connect)
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
connect.Close()
The error message says: Login failed for user 'username'.
I tried lots of things but it didn't work:
In SQL Configuration Manager:
Client Protocols: TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled.
In SQL 2005 Services: Server Properties: Built-in Account: Local System
SQL Server Surface Area Configuration: Remote connections: Using both TCP/IP and Name Pipes connection is selected.
In SQL Management Studio i created a new login glgrand-ar/UserStartupName , with sysadmin server role and user mapping my CIPPEC database.
I don't know what else i could try, i tried it at home and at work and i couldn't connect to my database and make an INSERT. It stops at Connect.Open() with the error that i wrote in this subject message.
It's evident that i'm doing something wrong (because i'm new): Could you please help me with a solution and explain me what are the data that i have to put on the Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection ?? I'm using the Windows authentication: i'm putting my username and password and it doesn't worked.
Thank you!!
