Hey guys i want to relocate my database datafile and transaction logs from C: drive to D:
From what i have in mind , correct me if i am wrong: First I will create the same folder on D drive as they are on C drive then copy the datafile from C to D , then come back and change the paths on the database files to point on D.
Hi,Everytime a job starts it puts logging into the system (application) loggingfiles.(Messages)How can I prevent SQL from doing that.Arno de Jong, The Netherlands.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAny assistance is appreciated.I would like to know if there is a way to specify the path for databaselog files to be located during the SQL2005 Standard installation.Under the Advanced button there is the ability to specify a differentpath for data files but nothing for logs.Thanks in advance,John
View 5 Replies View RelatedNote: Please refer to my previous message to see the current VS2005 C# code I am using to create my database.
This database will be used for short term operations. In otherwords, a user will create the database, generate a lot of data that will be created using:
SqlBulkCopy bcp;
Then, there will be 'activity'... updates, queries, deletes, etc for a few days and then the user will at a minimum remove all of the data and at some future point in time, will recreate the data and do the process all over.
In otherwords, I am not concerned about backups or transaction logging or recovery or any of these 'normal' issues of using a SQL database.
That said, how do I use SMO to keep the LDF limited in size and as small as possible (assuming I can't turn of the tranaction log to begin with).
2nd question is...I read soething about being able to log ONLY the exection of a Bulk Copy operation. How do I specify that? This is my SQLBulkCopy code.
SqlBulkCopy bcp;
SqlCommand sqlCmd = new SqlCommand();
sqlCmd.Connection = m_dbFiles.conMain;
bcp = new SqlBulkCopy(sqlCmd.Connection);
bcp.DestinationTableName = "tblMyTable";
bcp.WriteToServer(datatable);

Specially the part of working with backup logfiles.Can someone please help me with this?What I want todo is to create backup log files, so I can restore thedatabase to any point in time before a failure occured. But using thismethod create's a problem with the backup log files. They get verybig.So how can I use backup log files without getting to large backup logfiles?How can I shrink on a regular basis the backup log files and still beable to restore the database?Please help.Best regards,Marc Janssen,Join Bytes!:)

View 1 Replies View RelatedHi,
I have a datadabase with 1 datafile from 60Gb. Is it a good thing(preformance) to split up this datafile in smaller datafiles from 6Gb each?
I don't have separete diskslices so a can't spread my datafiles on my disks but i only need to know if a datafile from 60Gb sin't too big for MSSQL2000.
Thanks,

Good morning,
When I install a database I set up datafiles to another volume with greater capacity. I would like to know about the report service, there is need for datafiles be placed in another volume, or it may be placed in the same volume of the operating system?
Thank you,

Hi,
I need to set up a Standby database using a copy of datafiles of the primery database. (An SQL backup of the database is not an option).
Is there any option to restore a database from datafiles?
Or is there an option to attach database but into an standby mode?
Please advice,

Hello,I am trying to clean up a database I inherited.I have an 80GB SQL 2000 database with 20 datafiles each 4096 in size. Ihave been able to remove unneeded data and am now trying to clean up.If I do a Shrink on each datafile would able to recover on average 2gbout of 4g, however I would prefer to have 10 full datafiles and 10empty. (or better yet 5 full 8GB datafiles and 15 empty)Can someone point me in the right direction on how to move the dataaround so that dont have 20 partially filled datafiles?I have noticed that I can shrink a single file and use the "empty thefile option (and move data to other files in the group)." option. Ihave already done this to the last 2 datafiles as a test but not surehow to do this on a large scale. I have also set the 1st 10 datafilesto be able to grow to 8 GB.For lack of a better way to say this, Is there a way to defrag orreorganize the data ables so everything "moves to the front".BTW, I have already run a maintenance plan to reorganize the data andindex pages.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI try to load data into a memOpt table (INSERT INTO ... SELECT ... FROM ...). The source table has a size about 1 Gb and 13 Mio Rows. During this load the LDF File grows to size of 350 GB (until the space if the disk is run out of space). The Server has about 110 GB Memory for the SQL Server reserved. The tempdB doesn't grow. The Bucket Size in the create statement has a size of 262144. The Hash key as 4 fields`(2 fields have the datatype int,1 has smallint, 1 has varchar(200). ) The disk for the datafiles has still space for the datafiles (incl. the hekaton files).
How can I reduce the size of the ldf files during the load of the data ?
Hi,
I have formatted my server because of serious problem and i did not backup my database. I have only a phisical copy of the disk containing data on another disk. :( How I can recover my db? Thank you in advance.
I had asked a question last week and I realized that I had phrased it in a misleading way. Within a lab environment at my company, we are experimenting w/ accessing remote SQL data files stored separately on another machine from the SQL server itself (whether it be another client or server).
The experiment is this: You have one client machine accessing a SQL server via Enterprise Manager. The datafiles that you are trying to access are stored on another machine that does not have SQL Server installed. This remote machine only has the datafiles.
Can one map a static path via UNC from the SQL server to the datafiles on the remote machine and then access these datafiles (as long as the user's account has the appropriate permissions to the remote machine)? To my understanding, within SQL server you can only access datafiles that are stored locally on the SQL server itself.
The other thing that I was wondering was if the type of user account had some significance in this situation. More than likely, a local user account would not be able to access the remote machine w/ the datafiles even if the SQL server could map an UNC path and retain it. A domainuser account might be able to do this though.
Any help that you could provide would be appreciated.
I trying to get the moving total (juts as moving average). It always sum up the current record plus previous two records as well and grouped by EmpId.For example, attaching a image of excel calculation.

I have inherited an SQL server that is running out of disk space. SQL 2000 was installed on a regretfully small C: partition, and I need to move as much as I can to the D: partition. I really don't want to uninstall and start over, and I am hoping there is a whitepaper or something that I can use to accomplish the same thing.
Any help is appreciated!
My company recently purchased a new ERP system which does not support 64 bit SQL Server. For this reason, I need to uninstall the 64 bit SQL server 2005 and install the 32 bit version. This leads to my question. I have an application currently using a database on the 64 bit version and would like to confirm that the DB will work correctly in the 32 bit version. Do I just have to detach the database, copy the files, then install SQL server 2005 32 bit and attach the DB?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using MS Access for a long time. The last couple of months my sites have really picked up in business (good rankings) and we keep crashing the server (No sites on the server that use MS Access will run) We get the errorSystem.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Unspecified error at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.ProcessResults(Int32 hr) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.InitializeProvider()at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.Open()at DreamweaverCtrls.DataSet.DoInit()Also I am finding out from some of my customers that their sites they can't use at times because of the error but the server hasn't crashed yet because others are up. Well I believe we are exceeding MS Access very badly because it crashes the server daily now and sometimes more then once a day. So I am going to start moving my MS Access database to SQL but have NO CLUE how where to start etc or use SQL correctly. If people can point me in the right direction that would be very helpful. Everything I find online is people needing help but no solutions that work for me. My new server is a windows server running ASP.Net 2.0 and to edit my SQL I have "ASP.Net Enterprise Manager" and Plesk for the server.1. A good book to follow and easy to follow for SQL (connections / how tos) or website2. Good examples or book on "ASP.Net Enterprise Manager"3. How to convert access databases into SQL easy (some have over 50,000 listings)4. how to convert Tab files into SQL easy.Thank you so much for any help. Also I am using Dreamweaver for most of the edditing and connections. I know its not your favorite but I don't have the time to write everything by hand and it works good for what I do on the websites.Thanks again,Rusty

I want to transfer a database from one PC to another. (Both running SQL Server 2005 express)
I have copied the files (SQL Server Database Primary Data File and SQL Server Database Transaction Log File) from the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData folder of the source PC to the destination PC (Same folder).
I was under the impression that using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - SQL Server Management Studio Express these files would be picked up and could be used, do I infact need to do something to attach the files/database so that they will appear in SQL Server management?
I have 2 databases on one server that I want to consolidate into one database. I'm just learning SQL Server 2005. What is the easiest way to move my 3 tables from one database to a new one on the same server? Do I have use SSIS to do it, or can a simple query be written? I'm new so please be a little detailed in your answer. Thanks in advance for any comments.

I'm looking to deploy a web site that uses SQL2000 to another server. Im trying to find out how to move the database to that server. Ideally I would like to be able to save it to CD for safety but its not like old access where you save the mdb file. I need to save the whole 'DTS' package, is that what its called? stored procedures, triggers the lot.
I tried the wizards but just got in a mess.
Thanks
I've created a web application with Visual Studio 2003. Uploading my application to the server is easy enough. I use the Copy Project utility from the Project selection on the menu bar.
I'm using a remote server-- and hosting account that supports ASP.NET and ms SQL. But now I want to copy my ms SQL database and can't find any way to copy my DB to the server.
What do the best way to to this?

I have a scenario where I need to refresh a database that is in 7.0 (converted from 6.5 database) from the original database. Is there an easy way to do this. I have tried creating a DTS package but the data never seems to make it accross.
