I am in the process of building a new server to replace an existing one which is already on SQL Server 2000. I am looking to move the login information from one server to another without having to type them. Any ideas?

I hope someone can help with my current issue as i have now spent the last 8
hours trying to solve it! Here goes...
I am currently moving all my websites from our in house set up to a FASTHOSTS
dedicated server. Our in house set up consists of separate server for web
and data and works well even with my recent foray into .Net sites.
I have just moved the most recent of my .Net sites
(http://www.alfadealerads.co.uk/home.aspx) to the FASTHOSTS server and cannot
get the site to connect to the database (this has also been installed on the
FASTHOSTS server). One of the pages that connects to the DB is
http://www.alfadealerads.co.uk/links.aspx, where i am getting the error..
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot open database requested in login
'MasseratiChauffeurDrive'. Login fails.
Login failed for user 'lateral'.
This DB has been restored from back up from the original DB. I have
recreated the user name on the new SQL server and added it to the new DB
also. I am using a webconfig to connect to the DB, the exact same one
that works on my current live server
(http://www.maseratichauffeurdrive.com/home.aspx) only with the obvious change
to the SQL server name.
The only difference i can see in the 2 setups is that the new one has both the
webserver and the SQL server on the one machine and that machine uses domains.
My current in house setup does not use domains and as mentioned before web and
date are 2 separate servers.
Can anyone help? Or even understand what the hell i have written? lol

I am doing an audit of user information in our database and was wondering if there is a way for me to see the last time a user logged into the database. I am using a SQL Server 7.0 box. Any Information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I can log in to a database with administrator account, but not with an user account.
I am getting "Invalid login information" error message. What will be the likely cause for this?
I am using Winodws authentication.
When I try to connect to a MS Access 2000 database inenterprise Manager , i getan error "Login failed -Catalog information cannot be retrieved". I get thiserror message in a dialog box about 5 or 6 times. Thedatabase file location ends up in the file location box. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect to a SQL database on a Windows Server 2003 machine via a Microsoft Data Link on an XP machine.
I select Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server on the provider tab of the Data Link.
On the connection tab I input the IP of the server and select "Use Windows NT Integrated securty"
However when I test the connection I get the following errors:
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(COnnect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
followed by the error: "Login failed. Catalog information cannot be retrieved"
The firewalls on both machines have been dropped but this did not work. The XP machine can ping the Server 2003 machine and connect to a C$ share.
I am using SQL Server Express 2005 on the Server. I can connect to the database using SQL Server Management Studio Express on the server. However the XP client machine is not having any luck connecting via the Microsoft Data Link.

We have succesfully moved SQL server to a new machine and this same machine will also be running IIS 5.1 to host our intranet. We will be doing the actual developing on other machines and publishing the site to the new machine.
Now, when I went to test the site, it all comes up just fine, but logging in is a problem. What do I need to do to configure the new SQL server to accept new members, logins, etc.
Oh, and actually membership is still on the "old" SQL.
When I tried to login, I get this:
Server Error in '/' Application.
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

Have just tried my sql server 2005 connected asp classic website on II7 for the first time and have gotten some errors.
First off I have unchecked show friendly errors in IE and have enabled ASP to send error messages to the browser.
My error I get is when I execute a basic .asp page:

Oracle and Teradata are able to capture the windows/client login that connects to their database with a functionnal ID.I've searched around and I don't think MS SQL can do this...I administer SQL 2014 server and also SAS Enterprise guide product. I've created sql server logins for several teams so everyone shares the same sql server login which is used to bind the SAS library to my SQL server database.
However, when looking at activity monitor, I can't drill down to which user is executing a particular query. I only see the SQL login which is share amongs 200 other folks.On the other hand, when they connect from SAS to Oracle or Teradata, I can see the shared login + additionally their windows NT login used to connect to SAS which is awesome....they can't fool me by using a shared/funcionnal ID....i still see who's using that ID...

All the logins with sysadmin role are locked out in one of the SQL server. Also in that instance Logon trigger is implemented which allows only certain users with Windows Authentication to logon.
This server is converted into single user mode by using command prompt. Now we are attempting to connect to SQLServer using command sqlcmd -S FTCPU3239 (since we do not have any other login) and create a new login with sysadmin role but are refused due to logon trigger. it says Login failed for login 'DomainNameUserName' due to trigger execution.
I have a server that has 20 databases . I have tested with few users with different level of access and all of them were able to connect to the server and also see, select, update , delete from a particular database which is kind of weird because they do not have a user login associated or mapped to that database. I checked and no user is part of any group in AD that would give them permission to connect . I need a query that would find the permission path of a user. I already queried with xp_logininfo but I am not getting any thing.

Hi,
I am using SQL Server 2005 at home.
My problem is I forgot my password to log in to my server.
I only remember user name is 'sa'.
I haven't used it for two to three months. So I forgot password.
Previously, When I used sql server 2000, my login is as windows login. so no problem.
But this time, I set seperate log in and I got this problem.
Any help will be appreciated.

Since last so many days i am seeing that someone is trying to login to sql server through login name sa.but that login is failed.and this is occuring constantly.
Earlier i had same login failed message for another ip address.i have blocked that ip address through access-list in firewall.but now i am seeing the same message for another ip address.
(1).how can i permenently remove this message from Event log.
(2).What is the impact of this on sql server performance.is sql server performance degraded by this kind of contineous attack?

Been looking through the forums for a solution to this problem.I already tried granting access through statements such as:exec sp_grantloginaccess N1'machineNameASPNET'But they don't seem to work.. i vaguely remember seeing somewhere a DOS command line statement that grants access to the ASPNET_WP and that fixed my problem before on another computer.. but this is a new computer and i forgot to write down the command.Can anyone help explain and propose a solution to my problem. I have some troubles with IBM WebSphere Application Server using MS SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver. I always get the error e.g.
java.lang.SecurityException: class "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDatabaseMetaData"'s signer information does not match signer information of other classes in the same package
I found this Feedback but it seems to be closed.
A temporary solution for me was to delete the meta-inf directory of the JAR-File, but that can't be the solution.
Can anyone help me with this problem?

Cannot open database "aspnetdb" requested by the login. The login failed.
When I browse to my ASP.NET 3.5 LINQ web application on the IIS 6.0 server on Server 2003.
I imagine this is because while I granted SQL Server 2005 login and permissions to my database that the application stores its data in, I did NOT grant any rights to the service account the IIS Application Pool uses for its identity to the aspnetdb database on SQL Server which is where all my roles information is stored at.
My question is what are the MINIMUM permissions needed for this database so it can perform its roles related functions?
I'm using Windows Authentications with the SQL Role provider for authorization.

EDIT: I think I only need to open the aspnetdb database and add my login to the aspnet_Roles_FullAccess role. Is that correct?

In my Sql Sever i have added one Database "Devtools", by restoring it from .bak file. Now In my asp page I want to Display a Datagrid with data from a table "Devices". I want to Generate the Gridview dynamically. The columns in the table are dynamic they are not constant so I want to generate my Gridview dynamically. So I want to get the columns info of the table and based on that I want to dynamically add the columns to the table. So how to get the info of the table first. I'm trying to get the version information for my SQL servers. Specifically I want to get the major, minor, release and build numbers separately.
Does anyone know what the recommended method for doing this is?
I tried using @@microsoftversion but I can't find any documentation about it.
@@VERSION has the information in it but I'd have to parse the text, not something I want to do and it means the code can easily be broken if the format of the string changes.
xp_msver has what I need but I want to run this as a T-SQL batch so I can't access the results of xp_msver.
Just to add another restriction the code should be compatible with SQL server 2000 and, if possible SQL 7.0 (although not necessary).
Basically I have a script that I want to run on my servers that removes all users except dbo and guest from my databases. At the moment I query master.dbo.sysxlogins table but this doesn't work on 2005 so I thought I could check the version and run a different query for those servers.
Any help appreciated.
