Status: Failed - Invoked on: 4/17/00 3:25:00 PM - Message:
The job failed. The Job was invoked by Schedule 12 (Schedule 1).
The last step to run was step 1 (Step 1).

And before this message there is another one that can be making something goes wrong:

Oct 25, 2007

I have moved few databases in 2000 to a different server which run's on sql server 2005 and its not a instance ogf 2000.
I backed up databases in 2000 moved those files to other server and then restored them.
I had solved the problem of orphand users by deleting and adding again.

Now when i try to setup maintenance plan i have the following error after walking through the wizard

TITLE: Maintenance Plan Wizard Progress
------------------------------
Adding tasks to the maintenance plan failed.
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.MaintenancePlanWizard)

what do i need to fix this????Any help is appreciated...

And what else do i need to make sure everything in 2005 are working fine apart from orphand user.

Please let me know

Database Maintenace

Jan 25, 2008

Does any body have any good recommendations for maintenace plans?

Here are few questions I have.

When should indexes be re-indexed?
What should be done first? Reorganize indexes or rebuild indexes?
How often backups should be done and what kind?
How often should database statistics be updated?
Do database statistics need need to be updated on system databases?
How often should a database integrity check be done?
How long should history be kept for?
What is a good order for tasks should be done?

Any input would be great

Cached SQL Plan Vs. Stored Proc Plan

Dec 12, 2002

We have a debate in our team about embedded SQL vs. Stored Procs.

The argument is why use SP's if you can embed the SQL in the code and SQL2K will cache it on the fly?

I can't find any definitive information on pros and cons between the two methods.

If there are no major performance issues, or gotchas, I guess it comes down to developer preference.

SP Pros:
- Great SQL support in VS.NET (dev, debug, integration)
- Seperation of database specific code from middle tier.
- Less lines of code in middle tier
- VS.NET support for .xsd dataset definitions.
- Logic closer to data for more demanding processes.

Embedded SQL Pros:
- Less artifacts for version control
- Better encapsulation of logic

Any info would be appreciated.

thanks

Prepared SQL Plan Vs. Procedure Plan

Nov 23, 2005

I am working on tuning the procedure cache hit ratio for my server. We haveadded 4 Gb of memory to the server, which has helped. In addition, I have runthe DBCC FREEPROCACHE, which helped for a couple of days to get the hit ratioup to about 84% (from 68%).When I use the performance monitor on the server and look at SQL Server CacheManager:Buffer Hit Ratio, I see that the Prepared SQL Plan is around 97%, butthe Procedure Plan hit ratio is down around 55%. I've done some research ondifferent tuning techniques, but can't seem to find 1. a clear definition ofthe difference between the prepared sql plan and the procedure plan and 2.other than adding memory and running dbcc freeprocache, how can I get theprocedure plan cache raised? I do know that there are some procedures thatneed to be modified to be called fully qualified (e.g. exec dbo.sp_###instead of exec sp_###), but I don't think that those will increase theprocedure plan by 30% or more.Any insight you can give would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,Michael--Message posted via SQLMonster.comhttp://www.sqlmonster.com/Uwe/Forum...eneral/200511/1

SQL Server DB Maintenance Plan Question

Sep 12, 2005

I have about 15, 100mb databases on my SQLserver and was wondering if my db maintenace plan was correct. I backup the db once a day, and the Transaction log gets backep up every four hours. I am also using the "Bulk-logging" option for each database. My main concern was if I ever do a manual backup of one of the dbs, will it corrupt my backup history and stop me from restoring a db sucessfully. Would simple logging be a "safer" option? I just want to have the most reliable plan in place. I would appreciate any wisdom.Thanks.

I'm trying to create a maintenance plan to backup a database, and when I go to select the database in the dropdown, I don't have any of the user databases any more. They were there several weeks ago when I first created the 'plan'.
Does anyone know how to get the user db's to show up in the dropdown?

SQL Server Maintenance Plan Did Not Work??

May 15, 2000

Can someone tell what could possibly be the problem with SQL7 not running backups that were created and scheduled using the maintance plan wizar. There is no job history, or any record of the backups running. However, I did notice that the SQL Server Agent was set to manual. Could that perhaps have something to do with the jobs not running. If possible could some give me possible solutions or answers as to why these jobs didn't run.

Thanx

Log Shipping - Adding A New Server To Plan

Oct 13, 2003

I have had log shipping set up for a month at a remote site. Created another server to failover to here locally that utilizes 512K line. Microsoft has a tab on the maint plan to add another server to the log shipping plan. Shut down all log shipping, moved full backup back here locally and created new database. Used tab to add new server to log shipping server and setup plan using this database. When log shipping starts up for this new server it fails. Error shows it is looking for the first log file that was sent over a month ago. Am I correct in assuming that the only way you can really add another log server is to do it at the same time? If so it's kind of stupid to have the tab to add the server. My log files are pushed over every 5 minutes, and I remove them after 1 week.

Maintenance Plan Bug On SQL Server 2005

Oct 4, 2007

Hello, everyone:

I have a strange trouble on SQL Server 2005 on XP/local and Win 2003/server. When I connect local database and create a backup plan named by "backup plan", I can see the name under "maintenance plan" and "Jobs" under SQL Server Agent. But if I connect to server database and do the samething, I cannot see the name under "maintenance plan". I can see the name under "Jobs" under SQL Server Agent. But cannot delete this job, and message:

Drop failed for job "Backup Plan".(Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo).

Did someone meet this bug and have suggestions?

Thanks

Query Plan In SQL Server 2005 SP2

Aug 14, 2007

Hello,

The query included at the end of this post seems to use the 'wrong' index when executing and takes 2+ minutes to run. When I provide an index hint, it runs in under 1 second. This happens in both the Production and Development environments; both servers run SQL Server 2005 SP2.

When I run both the queries together in Query Analyzer (or SSMS), the Query Cost (relative to the batch) value for the query with the index hint = 83.24%.

Profiler stats for Original Query:

Duration = 130484 ms
CPU = 111141 ms
Reads = 85470

Profiler stats for Index Hint Query:

Duration = 64 ms
CPU = 687 ms
Reads = 5558

Statistics are updated every night (w/Fullscan)
Indexes are rebuilt/defragmented daily based on fragmentation levels.

What am I missing here/how do I fix this performance issue?
Doesn't Profiler take into account the "Subtree Cost" for the Index Seek (which Query Analyzer & SSMS consider to be so expensive)? What Events/Columns do I need to include in the Profiler trace to see this statistic when the query is executing?

Thanks much,
Smitha

Query Plan SQL Server 2008

Apr 30, 2008

I have a person table with 1 billion rows on it, partitioned equally at 10 million rows per partition. The primary key constraint is a composite of an identity column and ssn( char(11) ) with the partitioning column built on the SSN.

This is built on my home grown workstation:

Microsoft 2008 Server 64 bit, Microsoft SQL server 2008 64 bit, Intel 2.66 quad core, 8 gb ram, Os/ raid 1, data on 6 drives hardware/software raid 50, transaction logs on 4 drive raid 10, all drives sata II/ 3gb burst.

I have updated statistics on the table and I have 2 queries that give clustered index seek , one never comes back before I get impatient, the other comes back instantly, and the showplan looks the same for both queries.

SELECT *

FROM Person

WHERE PersonKey > -1 and SSN = '219-09-3987'

AND

SELECT TOP 100 PERCENT *

FROM Person

WHERE PersonKey > -1 and SSN = '219-09-3987'

Incidentally the query with the top 100 percent is the one that returns instantly.

I am puzzled

1) Why the estimated plan looks the same

2) Why a top 100 Percent query is faster than one without it

Moving A SQL Server 2005 Database From The Local Network To An Online Server.

Mar 7, 2006

Hi All, first post.

I have done a bit of searching around and cant find a clear answer to this question.

Current Setup
Desktop application (c#) that connects to a SQL Server 2005 express database on the same local network as the application (currently 3 users)

It is only a very small company and has just taken on their first remote worker, but expects to take on another 6-8 over the next few months. They have asked for the database to be moved online.

The application was written in such a way that everything has been done using no stored procs, or views, it is all native SQL.

This will be my first DB hosted online and before I go ahead and do anything I just wanted to make sure what I have to do is correct, sorry if this is a very basic question, although I have been programming for a long time, I have never had the chance to do any online databases before.

Will this work.
1.Find a SQL Server 2005 Hosting company.
2.Move the database to the server.
3.Setup the users permissions.
3.Alter the connection string in the application to point to the new location.

So the only thing that would change would be a new connection string in the application preferences?

Or am I living in a dream world, because nothing is ever that simple.

One thing I am worried about is the security/visiblity of the database and data as it travels from the server to the client and back.

Thanks for any advise you can give.

Mark

Moving A DTS To Another Server

Dec 28, 2003

Hi I'm very new to this but what I'm looking to do should'nt be too difficult although I've tried to no avail.

I'm looking to deploy a web site that uses SQL2000 to another server. Im trying to find out how to move the database to that server. Ideally I would like to be able to save it to CD for safety but its not like old access where you save the mdb file. I need to save the whole 'DTS' package, is that what its called? stored procedures, triggers the lot.

I tried the wizards but just got in a mess.

Thanks

Moving DB To A New Server

Jul 23, 2004

Hi -

At my work, we have a SQL Server 2K DB on a server. This server is being replaced and the DB needs to be copied from the old server to the new server and I've been asked to perform this task. What I was planning on doing was:

1. Making a copy of the database on the current server

2. Taking the .BAK file created and coping it to the new server via a mapped drive

3. Restoring the database from the .BAK file on the new server

The only concern is moving the .BAK file across the network due to size.

Is this the best method to do this or is there a more preferred way? By doing this, what potential issues could be encountered?

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Moving To A New Server

Aug 17, 2007

Our SQL server, Report Server and IIS server are all on 1 physical server but that's going to change. We're moving the IIS/web server to a new box but the database server & report server will be on the old box.

Are there available documentation on how to move the Report Server service and IIS configuration of the Report Server?

Moving SQL 6.5 To A New NT Server

Jun 25, 2001

I am hoping somebody can tell me in detail what is the quickest and fastest way to move SQL 6.5 to a new server. The server it is on is out of resources and space, and I have a new server to move everything over to. I assume I can just install SQL 6.5, copy the DATA database and MSSQL directories over, and rename the new server to the original name and take the old server offline?

Please give me as much detailed directions if you can.

Thank you

Moving To New Server

Jul 2, 2002

Hi Team

We are moving our production SQL server(EE) box to new box. Also, we
need to change the server name with new name. Currently, we have lots of
DTS, Transactional Replication and many jobs running.

What are the precautions / DOs and DONTs to make successful transfer to
the new server? Apart from restoring msdb on the new server, is there
anything we need to concentrate?

We use DTS to transfer logins and objects.

Thanks in Advance

Hi Everbody,
I've got a client that set up their own SQL server. It is
currently installed on NT4 on the system volume. It needs to be moved
to a directory. I was wondering if anybody has ever done
anything like this or can offer some good advice on the
best place to start.

Thanks,
