Moving The ASPNETDB.MDF File To Another Computer

Hi all!
I have some problems with asp.net windows authentication.
Asp made the file ASPNETDB.MDF. But I dont have SQL Server on the machine where the application will be deployed...
So I have to move this file to another server, but I couldnt find any information about ASPNETDB.MDF connection string or somenthing like this.
Is it possible to move this file or I have to make the authentication on my own, with my own database? I hope there is a solution to this problem!

I am developing an SSIS package in a local computer. I have connection managers defined that link to a SQL Server database. I connect to the database using SQL Server Authentication, a username and a password. When I copy the package files and try to execute them in another computer, the password is lost and I have to edit the package and rewrite the password. How can I move a package between computers and not lose the password?

hi all,
I'm having real trouble trying to place another copy of my database on a different computer.
I have developed a database on my main PC. But I want another copy of this same database to reside on my laptop so that I can do work on the move.
So far no luck. I installed SQL Server on the laptop but it won't let me create a database based on an existing database file.
Any ideas guys?

I will moving my SQL Server to another server. The plan is to stop SQL Server copy database file to a temp netwokr location, Switch off this server. Configure the new server with the same name and IP, install SQL to the same paths and service pack to the same level (SQL 2000 sp3). Then start and stop the SQL server. Once stop I will then copy the old database file over the new ones.
I know in general this works as I have doen this many times before expect this time round there is a replicaiton database which is new, I am expecting this will work the same but has any one else tried this before?

Dear all,
I face a problem about linking the SQL express database. Originally, I work with my desktop at home. However, I need to take it outside with my laptop. Once I copy whole project to my laptop and use Visual Studio 2008 again to develop. The following message appear when I run some pages that need to connect the database:
"An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file E:d drivedocAssignmentProgramming ProjectProgrammingSourceApp_DataASPNETDB.MDF failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. "
How can I solve this problem? I think it is an absoultue address and logical address problem. Thanks a lot.

I created several Reports using SSRS and SSAS. now i have to move them to another PC, which name is different. is there a way to do this without having to open each report in BIDS and changing the connection string for each Data Source ?

I need to rename this db and be able to set a path to it. This is because my webhost places all SQL databases on a seperate drive. This is a shared drive with alot of other databases. There fore my ASPNETDB.MDF needs to be renamed and have a path assigned. This doesnt seem tro be taken care of in my web.config file? Can some one help in reasigning the default database name and pathway. my other databases were pretty straight forward.

I am fairly new to ASP.NET and MSSQL but when I run my website with memberships and roles everything seems to work perfectly!! NO PROBLEMS!! However when I try to go and actually open the ASPNETDB.MDF database file that was automatically created by VB when I added a login and sign up panel I get this Error Message
"An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsoxMy DocumentsMy Webs nsApp_DataASPNETDB.MDF failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I don't really know why I can't open this file. I have someone who is going to help with some extra database work but asked if I could open this database so he could see the structure of it. I have a copy of the website as backup in another folder on my computer but even removing that backup does nothing in helping open the original. THANKS PLEASE HELP!

Hello,
I read the section related to membeship in the documentation and I have noticed that the aspnetdb.mdf file was generated on the fly. But how can I then exploit this file ? I have tried to access and create a new database with SqlServer 2005 Express but it didn't work. I manage it with the Database explorer of VWD 2005 Express, but why isn't it posssible with other database administration tools ?

I'm using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express, SQL Server 2005 and using the local file system as opposed to IIS for development purposes.
I will reference two pages of my site: one that manages Types of Tours and one that downloads a Tour Registration Excel file.
On the Tour Types page, there is a sqldatasource that populates a DetailsView whose default mode is Insert. On that same page I have a GridView that is populated from the same sqldatasource. The gridview has Paging, Editing and Deleting enabled. There is no code behind on this page except for a prompt to the user to confirm the delete action if he has elected to delete a Tour Type. This page works fine no problems.
On the download page, I have a prompt that allows the user to click a button to download the Tour Registration Excel file. The code behind opens the Registration table in the ASPNETDB.mdf database, builds an .xls file via a streamwriter and prompts the user to download the file.
My problem: if I start up VWD, go into my project, go straight to the download page without accessing any other pages, the download page works fine. If I access any other pages first and then go to the download page, I get the error "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Unable to open the physical file "C:....App_DataASPNETDB.MDF". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." My simplified code behind is this:

I am trying to create a sproc creates several tables, views, and sprocs across several similar DBs (please...no lectures on structure...I didn't create this multi-DB setup) .
My sproc loops through the DBs and runs a script on each DB. I am running the Sproc from a client computer and cannot easily access the c drive on the SQL server.
The only way I have figured out how do do this is to run the following
xp_cmdshell 'isql d- %@mydb% i- c:script.sql'
inside a loop.
My problem is that xp_cmdshell refers to the server c drive instead of my local c drive, where my script file is.
Is there a way to refer to my local c drive? Also any thoughts on a better way to approach this (other than running the entire script inline in the sproc since I don't want to have to run quotes around each batch of the script).

hi every one. i am a new user of asp.net 2.0 using C# code and i am facing a problem in accessing a SQL Server2005 database file in the remote computer. i have connected two pc with peer to peer connection and trying to add a databse using the "Add connection" option from the visual studio 2005. in the add connection dialog box it is showing me the remote server and it was supposed to show all the database in that SQL Server when i select one. but when i am choosing the server name it was not showing me anything. by the way i have configuered the surface area for "both TCP/IP and named pipes" and both the pc's server browser is turned on. is it the right way to access a database file from a remote pc or not?? please send me a good solution to do this things and try to explain the codes with example. waiting for response....plz send me the solution.. as soon as possible

For MS Press Book, ADO.NET 2.0 Step by Step, 2005 Edition by Rebecco Riordan, installing the code samples created a ConfigDB.exe file
under SampleDBs folder. Running this exe file created a AdoStepByStep into the Database
folder in SQL Server 2005 Express.
However, for ASP.NET 2.0 Step by Step, 2005 Edition, by George Shepherd, there is no Config.exe to install the ASPNETDB SQL Server
2005 Express database. I right clicked the Database folder to 'Attach' the database. But,
the database just showed a 'c: ASPNETDB.MDF filfe path as a name. Further, running
the aspx files in Chapters 7 and 12 showed a 'Timeout Expired' error msg, indicating
something wrong with accessing the SQL Server database.
How can I run the aspx files in Chapters 7 and 12? How can I install the ASPNETDB?

I am getting the error:
Cannot open database "aspnetdb" requested by the login. The login failed.
When I browse to my ASP.NET 3.5 LINQ web application on the IIS 6.0 server on Server 2003.
I imagine this is because while I granted SQL Server 2005 login and permissions to my database that the application stores its data in, I did NOT grant any rights to the service account the IIS Application Pool uses for its identity to the aspnetdb database on SQL Server which is where all my roles information is stored at.
My question is what are the MINIMUM permissions needed for this database so it can perform its roles related functions?
I'm using Windows Authentications with the SQL Role provider for authorization.

EDIT: I think I only need to open the aspnetdb database and add my login to the aspnet_Roles_FullAccess role. Is that correct?

I am having problem creating/copying "txt" file in a remote machine by using the "exec master..xp_cmdshell" command in query analyzer. For example, we are getting errors for the following command:
exec master..xp_cmdshell 'copy d: estingauthors.txt \<MyServerName><myFolderName>authors.txt'
(but exec master..xp_cmdshell 'copy d: estingauthors.txt d: esting1authors1.txt' is working without any problems)

I have the following directories
\servershare
\serversharearchvie
I have a for each file loop and inside it a data flow that pulls from one of the flat files in the directory and then a file system task. If I choose the "Move File" option in the file system task to move the file to the archive directory, it fails with an access denied message. The access denied message occurs after a message saying file was successfully deleted. I am running this from BIDS right now and my local user can write delete etc in both the above directories. However, if I do a "copy file" in the file system task it seems to work. I think what is happening is it is deleting the file first and then trying to move it, but it no longer exists because it has been deleted--is this possible? Is this a bug of some sort?
For now I am going to workaround by putting in another file system task that deletes the files after they were copied and see how that goes, but would prefer just to do the "move" option.

I have a File System Task that uses variables to resolve the destination and source paths of a document. When I select the 'copyfile' operation...the document is copied from the source to the destination without error.
However when I change the property from 'copyfile' to 'movefile' I get an error and the document is not moved.
The source and destination variables contain a valid file path name since the copy commmand is working as expected. However when I alter the properties of the File System task to move the document. I get the following error:
Could not find a part of the path 'G:CommonInformation SystemsDropFilesrtNRT_ConfirmationOrder Confirmation Report_11062006.xlsOrder Confirmation Report_11062006.xls
It seems a little nonsensical since the document file paths are valid when performing a copy. For some reason the error log is showing that that the file path is the document name "Order Confirmation Report_11062006.xls" and adding it twice to the the directory path called "'G:CommonInformation SystemsDropFilesrtNRT_Confirmation" as you can see in the above error message.
To replicate the 'move' action...I added an extra File System Task that deletes the document once the copy has been performed. I would like some insight into why this doesn't seem to work.

I tried to locate and change PendingFileRenameOperations under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession Manager.
I am not able to locate PendingFileRenameOperations both when following the registry path and even searching at the HKEY levels.

I am attempting to export a records to an excel file using DTS and then use activex to rename the file to include the date it was run. To do this i just move the file.
However when the script is run, it fails saying that permission is denied on the "move" line. I have seen other reports saying that permission is denied when using the "CreateObject" however i have implemented the changes it says, ie/ adding the SQL Agent login using the DCOMcnfg utility and renaming the DefaultAccessPermission key in the registry, with no success. It also doesnt seem to fail on that line anyway.
I have also added all the groups and usernames with full control to the security of the folder the file is in to no avail either.

I've got some users that created a database with the log file on a drive that doesn't have a lot of space. I'd like to truncate the log and move it to a different drive. I can truncate it, but is moving it as easy as changing the files properties through SSMS?

Hi,
I'm trying to move the transaction logs of my databases to a different drive (for fault tolerance). I can create a second transaction log file for each database via Enterprise Manager but I have 2 questions:
1) If two transaction log files exist for a database which one does it use ?
2) How do I force SQL to use the new transaction log file ? (so I can delete old)

Hi all,
I have to give support to this new client of ours and the system out there was a real mess.The log files for all four databases were ranging from 5 to 9 GB's, no maintanance no nothing was done since the setup of the system. I have truncated the logs after taking proper backups since it all started after they compalined a DTS was not working, which was due to no disk space available ;).
Now I have to shift the log files to a seperate disk.
I know it can be done by detaching the database and attaching it back, I was wondering if we can do it without bringing the system offline?
Anycomments welcome.

Hi, I am working on a new installation which I did not set up and realized was using the wrong partition of the server to store the data and log files, I have already created several databases, I want to use another partition for these databases without having to drop them and create them all over again.
In BOLine i saw this command but want to make sure its safe, hope somebody can comment on this or if I am missing something.thank you

I have a table called ACTIVATION_CONSUMPTION which is in PRIMARY file group, in order to move this table to new file group [FG_ACTV], I have done the following
1. ALTER DATABASE [MYDB] ADD FILEGROUP [FG_ACTV] (i have not attached a file to this file group)

I have a 'file system task' moving files from one server to another for processing. I have defined the path and filename as separate variables. When I attempt to pass them together into the task I receive an error.
Source Path & Filename:
@[User:: DataSourceFolder]+"\"+ @[User::CD_PaidClaimSource]
Outputs:
\umrdwh2FTPCLAIMDAILY.DATA
Destination Path Now: (Filename not specified per another thread.)
@[User::WorkingFolder]
Original Destination Path: (Which did not work.)
@[User::WorkingFolder]+"\"+ @[User::CD_PaidClaimSource]
I receive validation errors:
Error 1 Validation error. CLAIMDAILY Move : Failed to lock variable "\umrdwh2FTPCLAIMDAILY.DATA" for read access with error 0xC0010001 "The variable cannot be found. This occurs when an attempt is made to retrieve a variable from the Variables collection on a container during execution of the package, and the variable is not there. The variable name may have changed or the variable is not being created.". ClaimLoading_MASTER.dtsx 0 0
How do I overcome this without hard coding the path in the task?

I have a text file and moved the data to sql server using import and export data. These are step I am doing.
1. Open Microsoft Sql Server and select DTS Import Export Wizard
2. Using the wizard , I am selecting the Data Source as Text File and provided the file name.
3. In the next option, I am choosing Delimited , followed by Tab option.
4. Then, I am selecting the required Destination and the required Database also.
5. I am choosing the files specified and Run the file.
This method works perfectly.
However, I want a method, where I could avoid steps 1 thru 5 and provide the user a singe step. I mean just an execute of a stored procedure should do the steps 1 thru 5. Is that possible.
