I just got done writing the basics to a web application to interface with a MsSQL server. This app can connect to any MsSQL server on the web with the Server Name, Database Name, UID and PWD.
I have tested it on several servers, but have only connected to servers on one network, does anyone have any test SQL Servers I could try to connect to...?

For MSSQL 2005, how do you hide the databases so mssql db user will not see the database that he does not have access to when he logs in?
I can't seem to figure this out. I want to use this approach to increase the login time (to reduce loading speed on the database list).

Currently we have a variety of SQL 2000 (and 2005) database servers, we are having issues with the maintenance plan of a few SQL2000 boxes where they no longer have enough hard disk space to do a full index-rebuild on the system.
Now we want to re-build the databases indexes approximately once a week, or maybe a little less often, in the past this has worked fine with maintenance plans.
However, we now have issues because we have some databases in offline mode, and we are quite low on disk space with no plans for hardware upgrades anytime soon.
The temporary solution is to turn the index rebuilds off.
I have been working on a script that will:
Cycle through each database and within that database:
Go through each table
Run a DBCC DBREINDEX on the table
Move on to the next table
Once the reindexing of one database is complete
IF the database is not in simple mode
Backup the transaction log
Run a DBCC SHRINKDATABASE with the required amount of free space
Go to the next database until all are complete.The logic is quite simple but so far this has not worked, it would appear something is locking the transaction log until the script exits.
Now the script works fine excluding the shrinkdatabase, I always get:
DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator. [SQLSTATE 01000]

Clearly there is something in the log file towards the end.
However, I don't know why this is happening as I'm running the script in the master database and I've backed up the transaction log of the database I'm working on.
I've tried doing Full backup + Transaction log + Shrink, it fails.
I've tried waiting 10minutes in the script + shrink, it also fails.
However, if I open a query analyzer and do a backup log, then a shrink it works perfectly every time.
However in the script it always fails no matter what I do.
Where am I going wrong here?

they have different table structures and names . . :D

I am a bit new to the MSSQL server. In our application, we use so many SQL queries. To imporve the performance, we used the Database enigine Tuning tool to create the indexes. The older version of the application supports MSSQL 2000 also. To re-create these new indexes, I have an issue in running these "CREATE INDEX" commands as the statements generated for index creation are done in MSSQL 2005. The statements include "INCLUDES" keyword which is supported in MSSQL 2005 but not in MSSQL 2000.
Ex:-
CREATE INDEX IND_001_PPM_PA ON PPM_PROCESS_ACTIVITY
(ACTIVITY_NAME ASC, PROCESS_NAME ASC, START_TIME ASC, ISMONITORED ASC)
INCLUDE
(INSTANCE_ID, ACTIVITY_TYPE, STATUS, END_TIME, ORGANIZATION);
Any help in creating such indexes in 2000 version is welcome.

However, I would like to install mssql 7.0 server on my nt workstation
and work with it to become familiar with 7.0. Can I install mssql 7.0
server on my nt workstation? Can mssql 6.5 client coexist with mssql 7.0
on the same machine if they are in different directories?

I've been tasked to move our production databases on MSSQL 2000 to 2005. I've supported MSSQL since version 6.5 and performed migrations to successor versions.
Current Environment is MSSQL 2000 32-bit with current Service Packs.
I've performed mock migrations on Test servers upgrading all Production instances simultaneously from MSSQL 2000 to 2005 32-bit. The Test environment is identical to Production minus server name, IP etc. Also I have a separate server with MSSQL 2005 installed where I use the DETACH / ATTACH and BACKUP / RESTORE method for migration / acceptance testing. There are approximately 30 databases totaling 70 GB. This has gone as expected and fairly successful. Vendors have been coordinated with to update code and staff for acceptance testing.
I'd prefer going directly to MSSQL 2005 64-bit instead if possible due to memory benefits etc. This is where I'd like some feedback prior to borrowing a 64-bit server for testing.
Upgrade options:
1. Is it better to migrate from MSSQL 2000 32-bit to 2005 64-bit via:
a. DETACH / ATTACH
b. BACKUP / RESTORE
c. Is one method more advantageous relating to the end result?
2. Regarding XP clients, have issues been experienced with the default SQL Server driver or is an alternate recommended for XP clients to connect to a MSSQL 64-bit server databases?
3. If you have performed this migration and have relevant experience please pass them along.
Dear Readers,Is it possible, like in Access, to link to tables in other SQL databases that are on the same server? I have a query that I originally had in Access that queered from multiply databases. It did this by having those other tables in the other databases linked to the database that had the query.
DB is developed on local computer with MSSQL 2005 Express. My host is on MSSQL 2005 workgroup. Are they compatible, because I am getting errors? Is my approach wrong?
I have tried several approaches.
A) I created a backup of database on my local, then placed a copy on the server. Then I tried to restore through Server Management Studio. I get this error.

I'm surprised this is so hard. My original data base was created in same family of software. 2005 MS SQL Express. I could use some direct help from someone experienced with this. Am I doing it wrong or are the DB versions incompatible.

What is the best way to migrate MSSQL 2005 Express -> MSSQL 2005 Srv?
I just restored my SQL server 2000 database on the SQL server 2005. after this i ran the Service broker sample ("Hello World") on this database by changing the AdventureWorks name to the new database name. The "setup.sql" runs fine. When i run the "SendMessage.sql" i was not getting any rows in the output (The message was not getting inserted into the queue). I checked the Service broker is enabled on this databased using the query "select is_broker_enabled from sys.databases where name = 'newdbname' " It was 1. I even tried the ALTER DATABASE SET ENABLE_BROKER. but it didnt work.
When i tried the sample on a newly created database it worked fine.
Is there any solution to make the restored database to work for service broker.

Thus far any code i've seen and tried seems to not recognize the ODBC connections, so i was hoping you guys can offer some suggestions. To be more specific, I use the avg function in a simple select statement to average some figures based on a where clause:

...This should return 425.66, but it returns either 425 or 425.0000.
The results which are returned and being saved are being shown as a rounded integer or shown with 4 zeros after the decimal. I know it should be ending with a decimal in almost all cases. The column in the table that the result are being saved to is formated as smallmoney. The column in the table whos data is being averaged is set as an integer. Question, how can I make the avg function calculate the decimal values and save the appropriate decimal results. What changes do I need to make to my select statement. Any help would be appreciated.

I have an SQL 2000 server set up that runs perfectly, and an IIS set up that runs perfectly but I can not get the webpage to read data from the dbase. Is there a connection that I have to make or a program I have to load? The page is a .asp page, and when I run the page that should connectI do not get any errors in the dbase at all, so I can only imagine that it is not even seeing an attemptat a connection. When I try to approve an update it sometimes just times out. When it does work it takes for ever. The CPU usage shoots through the roof. about %99 by the sqlservr process. It also take 190,000 k of RAM. Is this normal and how can I fix it? I think its a problem with the mysql but i don't know what. I have tried restarting. Its a 2.4 GHz system with 1gb of RAM. I am developing a web app with PHP n Mssql.
When I run the index page, the following error message shows up, (PHP is working fine, the info.php page shows me all configuration.)

I believe my MSSQL is not working properly. Well to tell you about my configuration, I am on Win2K Pro XP, MSSQL Server 2000, PHP 5.2.2 & IIS 5.
Ntwdblib.dll is in C:Windows folder, php_mssql.dll is in C:PHPext folder. In php.ini file: extension_dir = "c:phpext", extension=php_mssql.dll, include_path = ".;c:phpincludes". All dll's lie inside C:PHPext folder.
I don't know where I am gone lost. Please suggest if there is anything i need to add or modify. And if possible, please be descriptive as I am doing MSSQL with PHP for the first time.
