Multi Server SSRS ERROR
Jun 8, 2007
I get this error in a web farm environment:
Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.
I googled and found a bunch of references to .NET apps, but I wasn't sure how to fix it in SSRS.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks!

how to handle space between multi-value parameter values in SSRS. For e.g. if the values are as follows -'KLO LUG', 'HGY KIU', 'LOT JUY', I know I can use the split function for the commas but its the space between the value which is the problem.

I am setting up sharepoint and sql server integration environment. I am considering the following topology: PowerPivot for SharePoint 2013 and Reporting Services in SharePoint mode Two Server Deployment
[URL]
I am looking to follow the topology example by the letter, which involves installing PowerPivot for SharePoint (aka SSAS in SharePoint mode) in the same server as my SQL, and installing SSRS in SharePoint (SP) integrated mode in the same server as SharePoint.
I understand, however, that if I wanted to install SSRS in SP mode in the same server as SQL, I could but only if the server contains the SP Object Model.
My first question is, what would involve having the SP Object Model in the SQL Server?
Would only installing SP binaries be enough; or Do I need to do a minimal install of SP in the SQL server enough for it to joing the SP farm? And most importantly, what would be the licensing implications for SP in case I want proceed down this route and have SSRS in SharePoint mode installed in the same server as the SQL?

I was trying to have multivalue options in a ssrs report, and I used this query
SELECT {[Measures].[Sales Amount],[Measures].[Tax Amount]} on columns,non empty([Product].[Color].[Color],[Product].[Product Name].[Product Name]) on rows
from
( select
(STRTOSET(@color))
on columns
from [Analysis Services Tutorial])
But the report only showed the default value as an option(in this format [Product].[Color].&[Multi] whic is not presentable),and what I also noticed in the parameter option is that, the available values option is set to none , also when I try to use get from query , it does not give me the vales for the parameters, and when I right click the designer pane it does not have the show hidden dataset option.I have created the parameter with multivalue option. what can I do to get the multivalue option to work.

Hi
I've made my Cube having two language support - Japanese and English. For that I'm keeping two description columns relavent to language and mapping in dimenstion attribute translation. Till that it is fine. In SQL 2005 Analysis Services Browser it working very fine. But when I use this cube with SSRS, I've made Custom parameter for Language. And based on that I'm chaning Report.Language property for the selected language. It is working fine in case of Report Data. It is converting data in Japanese when I select Japanese Language and translating in English when I select English. But Problem is that Parameter's data is not chaning when I change the language. I supposed to that when I'm changing Report.Language to Japanese then Parameter's data should be changed in Japanese. Please help how it can be possible.
Thanks in Advance.

I know this is the code to add a single valued report parameter to a report via asp.net
Dim paramList As New Generic.List(Of ReportParameter)
paramList.Add(New ReportParameter("MyParameter", "MyValue", False))
Me.ReportViewer1.ServerReport.SetParameters(paramList)
But how do I go about adding a multi valued parameter?

I have a multi-value parameter that I am having a hard time writing a COUNT expression for in SSRS. Here is the situation:
1. If the "(Select All)" in the drop down is selected, COUNT all last names for ALL of the Auditor parameter
2. If a specific or multiple auditors are selected from the drop down, COUNT all last names based on that selection for the Auditor parameter
Currently, I am having it COUNT by ALL and it works but if a specific or multiple auditors are chosen, then the COUNT doesn't work.

I have what seems to be a common problem where I have names like "Last, First" that I need to be able to select using a multi-value parameter, which of course, SSRS passes as comma-delimited and gets messed up. I need to find a way to use a different delimiter or pass CHAR(44) instead of the comma, or something. Even worse, some people have suffixes and multiple commas in one name!

Hi,
I'm using SSRS 2005 which connects to SQL Server 2005. I need to pass Multi valus for single parameter...
E.g. Command type : Text
SELECT * FROM COUNTRY where CountryId IN ( @CountryID)
If i tried to preview using single parameter, it shows the record without any problem. However when i tried to put multi values, it gives error message?? I read somewhere which says, need to set to multivalue. But, i could not find the place to set the multi value option...
How to solve it?? Your suggestion/recommendations greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have managed to get the Forms Authentication sample to work bu there is a hitch. I am running Report Server and Report Manager on the same(test) PC. I can logon to the Report Server without a problem but when I try logon from the UILogon.aspx page for Report Manager I receive the following error:
An error occurred while attempting to get the ReportServer Url. The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)

I've been running into this issue quite a few times, and have been unable to solve it through reading various posts/forums. Here is the issue
Software Details:
Datawarehouse Database - SQL Server 2008 R2
Reporting Services Version - SSRS 2008 R2
Development Environment - Visual Studio 2008
Problem Details:
I have been writing reports based of a Relational Datamart with dimensions and facts. The report in question uses dimensions for parameters and facts for content. Multi valued parameters are enabled in the report query by using the 'IN(@Paramenter)' statement within the report query. It has a total of 6 multi-value parameters. I assign the same available values from dimension datasets for each parameter to it's default parameter. Theoretically all the values in the option lists should be selected after first render. This is not always the case.
Example:
SELECT *
FROM dbo.MyTable
WHERE
TableColumn0 IN (@Parameter0)
AND
TableColumn1 IN(@Parameter1)
AND ....N (continue syntax to 6 multi valued parameters)
Some of the multi-value drop down lists are defaulting to have every value selected, and some are not. The problem is I need to know why some parameters are not selecting all by default when specified.

I have an SSRS report with several variables, some of which are multi-valued. The main query that feeds the report uses some table value functions. For example, the query looks something like this:
select tv1.a, tv1.b, tv2.x, tv2.y, tbl.m, tbl.n
from tableValueFunction1(@MultiValueParam) as tv1
inner join tableValueFunction2(@MultiValueParam) as tv2 on tv1.xxx = tv2.xxx
inner join regularTable as tbl on tv1.xxx = tbl.xxx
where tbl.abc in (@MultiValueParam).When I try to run this, I get an error saying that I'm feeding the wrong number of parameters into the table value functions. I've fed multi-valued parameters to stored procedures before and used a splitter function to split out the comma separated values, so I was planning to do the same thing in this scenario. However, this is different. When I look at the query in SQL Profiler, it shows discrete values for the multi value parameter. For example, the same query above looks like this when viewed through the profiler (using 1,2,3 as my multi-value selection):
select tv1.a, tv1.b, tv2.x, tv3.y, tbl.m, tbl.n
from tableValueFunction1(1,2,3) as tv1
inner join tableValueFunction2(1,2,3) as tv2 on tv1.xxx = tv2.xxx
inner join regularTable as tbl on tv1.xxx = tbl.xxx
where tbl.abc in (1,2,3)
In other words, SSRS isn't converting the multi-value parameter to a comma separated string, like it normally does.

I am trying to get a null value to pass to a multi-select parameter in SSRS 2005. The multi-select box is getting its possible values from the following query:
SELECT NULL CMP_ID, '<all companies>' COMPANY UNION SELECT DISTINCT T1.CMP_ID, T1.COMPANY FROM VIEWCOMPANYLIST T1 WHERE T1.DIV_ID = 2 ORDER BY 1
This query is pre-pending a row with NULL as the first ID. The resulting data set is exactly what you would expect - Row 1 has a null in column CMP_ID, and <all companies> in column COMPANY. All the rest of the rows have proper data. My multi-select parameter box is of type Multi-value Int, with possible values populated by this query and a default of NULL. However, when I preview the report, the <all companies> row disappears.
It's not even in the list, and it's not getting selected by the default selector. So, of course, when I try to View Report without selecting anything, I get prompted to select a company. Why the prepended row in my dataset is getting dropped from the multi-select box at display time? And yes, I have to be able to pass a null value because the stored procedure on which the report is based expects this parameter to be optional.

In one of my datasets, my field "Team" is a SharePoint choice column that is a checkbox, so multiple entries are in it. In my Parameter, I have it as a multiple-value, and I'm specifying the values directly in both available and default. For my filter, I have [Team] IN [@Team], which is where the problem comes in. It will only filter the results of entries that only have ONE listed in Team.
For example: One entry has "Building" in Team column which SSRS is displaying. But it will NOT display entries where "Building" and "Clerks" are displayed. I believe this is because SSRS sees this as 1 line of text, so it does not just see"Building" but "Building" and "Clerks" so it will omit it.I've tried to have my parameter set to "Get values from a query" but the problem there is the drop-down is too confusing since it interprets it as "Building" and then "Building, Clerks", and then "Building, Clerks, Economic Development' as another drop down, which defeats the purpose of the filter.
how I can get SSRS to show ALL entries that contain "Building" when I choose "Building" as a drop-down choice in my parameter? Instead of only showing ones that is Building only and dismissing other teams?

There is a multi value parameter called "include" in the report where "Allow Multiple Values" is checked and it has 4 Available values as shown in the attached screen shots and preview of the report is also shown .There is no data set for this parameter and the values will get displayed on the report based on the visibility condition set in the report.Example : If first value is selected then 1 is passed and based on the visibility condition set in the report - the report output is displayed.None is default value and has value 4 and when the report is run with this option i.e. "None" then rest three parameter values are not applicable .
Requirement :
-When the end user selects (Select All) Check box then (None)
-check box must be disabled or must not appear for selection for the end user
-When the end user selects check boxes either of the first three except None then also None check box must be disabled or must not appear for -selection for the end user
-when the end user selects a combination of first three then also None check box must be disabled or must not appear for selection for the end user
-The None is set as default with a value as 4 and is applicable only when the user does not select either of the first three values and the report will run.

I am new to Reporting Services and hope that what I am looking to do is within capabilities :-)
I have many identical schema databases residing on a number of data servers. These support individual clients accessing them via a web interface. What I need to be able to do is run reports across all of the databases. So the layout is:
Dataserver A
Database A1
Database A2
Database A3
Dataserver B
Database B1
Database B2
Dataserver C
Database C1
Database C2
Database C3
I would like to run a report that pulls table data from A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, C1, C2, C3
Now the actual number of servers is 7 and the number of databases is close to 1000. All servers are running SQL2005.
Is this something that Reporting Services is able to handle or do I need to look at some other solution?
Thanks,
Michael

I would like to be able to adjust the multi-value property of a parameter based on the value of another parameter in my report. The controlling paramter would be binary with two options for Single or Multiple selection. I would like my parameter to default to multi-value, which I can do on the screen selection. I have tried to add an IIF statement to the XML code, with no success. Any ideas would be helpful.

Hi,
I'm encountering an issue with "Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 windows" and am having problems determining how to fix it due to the environment I'm using. I have two SQL Servers installed on two separate Win2K3 Server boxes, one is SQL Server 2000 and the other is SQL Server 2005. The SQL Server 2000 contains the actual application data. The 2005 database is used only for Reporting Services. I've set up the reports on SSRS such that their datasources hit the 2000 server. This is using SQL Server authentication.
When testing the reports via SSRS (in Visual Studio 2005), the connection to the data works and the reports are generated fine. When I deploy them to the reporting server and launch IE to test locally (still on the 2005 box), I get this "Named Pipes Provider, error 40" issue. I made sure that Named Pipes and TCP were enabled and the port set at 1433 (to match that on the 2000 box).
Now I changed the datasource's authentication from SQL Server to Windows authentication. I tested this in SSRS and this works too. When I redeployed the reports with this authentication change, testing the reports via IE locally (on the 2005 box) worked (using Administrator login). Great. Now when I open IE on an external box, i.e. on the 2000 box, and try to test the reports using that server's Administrator login, I get this same error 40 issue. I've been through a few threads describing the error 40, fiddling around with the SQL Server configuration as well as SSRS, to no avail. I have a feeling this error 40 issue has to due with permissions/authentication between the SQL Server boxes but I can't really be sure. Anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot my situation. Thanks.

I've had some problems with Reporting Services and getting connected to the database server after configuration. I am now getting the following error message:
The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. (rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable) (rsRPCError)
In my Database Setup everything runs fine when I click apply except for the Setting Connection Info for Reporting Server this has a yellow triangle with a ! and says that the report server cannot access internal information.
I also have not been able to Initialize as there are no instances to initialize and none are created when I go through setup. Is there something I need to delete from the registry or the file system that does not get removed upon uninstall?
Thanks.

Hi All,
I have a MS Access DB that I have successfully u/graded to SQL Express 2005. I run my code using a recordset as normal, and all connections to the database work fine, but I receive the multi step OLE DB error when it gets to a line trying to populate an address field which has a datatype of nvarchar(max), null. (Field was Memo in Access version before).
This field in SQL2005 has allow nulls.
I've tried to add an empty string " " to the variable before being saved, but this still doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Hello,
I receive an error message when I try to Push data that the table is not tracked. However, when I try to turn on the tracking option it gives me an error that the table is a multi query table and therefore cannot be tracked. Here is my code to Pull the table.
string TPDAPull = string.Format("SELECT Table1.Field1,Table1.Field2, Table1.Field3, Table1.Field4, from Table1 Left Join Table2 on Table1.Field1 =Table2.Field1 WHERE Table2.Field12='{0}'", this.FindWorker(var));
rda.Pull("Table1", TPDAPull, rdaOleDbConnectString, RdaTrackOption.TrackingOn);
This table does not have a primary key. I was wondering what can I do in this situation? I do not want to Pull the whole table. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am working in VS 2005, NCF2.0, C#, WM5.0.
Thanks in advance!

I have read that there isn't a simple way to use MVPs in stored procedures, however I'm simply using nested SELECT statements.
Select A.attr1, B.attr4
From( Select * from tb1) A, tbl2 B
Where A.attr1 = ((@param))
For some reason, I'm getting the "Conversion failed when convertng the nvarchar value ..." error. Is there some setting that I'm missing? This is just a text command, not a stored procedure. Has anyone had this problem before?

Disaster Recovery Options based on the following criteria.
--Currently running SQL 2012 standard edition
--We have 18000 databases (same schema across databases)- majority of databases are less than 2gb-- across 64 instances approximately
--Recovery needs to happen within 1 hour (Not sure that this is realistic
-- We are building a new data center and building dr from the ground up.
What I have looked into is:
1. Transactional Replication: Too Much Data Not viable
2. AlwaysOn Availability Groups (Need enterprise) Again too many databases and would have to upgrade all instances
3. Log Shipping is a viable option and the only one I can come up with that would work right now. Might be a management nightmare but with this many databases probably all options with be a nightmare.

I have created the following temp table.
--DROP TABLE #temp_Table
--select 0 as Populated, c.Table_name, Column_name, Ordinal_position, Value, Data_type, Character_maximum_length
-- INTO #temp_Table
-- from
--(SELECT 'lists' AS 'TABLE_NAME', *
-- FROM ::fn_listextendedproperty (NULL, 'user', 'dbo', 'table', 'Lists', 'column', default))c
--INNER JOIN
-- (SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.columns)d
-- ON c.objname = d.column_name COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AI
-- AND c.TABLE_NAME = d.TABLE_NAME
--ORDER BY d.Ordinal_Position
--select * from #Temp_Table
The temp table above #Temp_Table has these 2 columns among others.
Table_Name, Column_name
Lists.......ListID
Lists.......ItemName
Lists.......ItemAbbreviation
Lists.......ItemDescription
From the table named in the Table_Name column I want to populate a new column named "Populated" with the count of rows based on this select:
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM Lists WHERE Len(Notes)<> 0
So that I will end up with:
Table_Name ...Column_name ........Populated
Lists...............ListID......................22
Lists...............ItemName...............10
Lists...............ItemAbbreviation......20
Lists...............ItemDescription.......5
My attempt at writing this select is as follows.
select *, populated from #Temp_Table #t
--loop through table for getting count of all columns.
WHILE #t.Ordinal_position IS NOT NULL
begin
Update #t
set populated = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM Lists WHERE Len(Notes)<> 0)
end
And get this error
Msg 4104, Level 16, State 1, Line 3
The multi-part identifier "#t.Ordinal_position" could not be bound.
How do i correct this?

'Msg 4104, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
The multi-part identifier "ep.ProjectUID" could not be bound'.
What does this error mean?
My SQL is:
Code Snippet
WITH Tasks (TaskParentUID, TaskUID, ProjectName, TaskName, Level)
AS
(
SELECT et.TaskParentUID, TaskUID, ProjectName, TaskName,
0 AS Level
FROM dbo.MSP_EpmProject as ep
INNER JOIN dbo.MSP_EpmTask as et
ON ep.ProjectUID = et.ProjectUID
WHERE et.TaskParentUID = et.TaskUID
UNION ALL
SELECT et.TaskParentUID, et.TaskUID, ep.ProjectName, et.TaskName,
Level + 1
FROM dbo.MSP_EpmProject as ep
INNER JOIN dbo.MSP_EpmTask as et
ON ep.ProjectUID = et.ProjectUID

SELECT t.TaskParentUID, t.TaskUID, ProjectName, t.TaskName, Level
FROM Tasks as t
INNER JOIN dbo.MSP_EpmTask as et
ON Tasks.TaskParentUID = et.TaskParentUID
WHERE Level = 0
The TaskParentUID has data-type of UniqueIdentifier and it's child is TaskUID which is also a UniqueIdentifier type. My goal of this CTE is to list all child TaskUIDs for each TaskParentUID in a recursive fashion.

More often than not, I typically don't touch DTC on clusters anymore; however on a project where the vendor states that it's required. So a couple things here.
1) Do you really need DTC per instance or one for all?
2) Should DTC be in its own resource group or within the instance's group?
2a) If in it's own resource group, how do you tie an instance to an outside resource group? tmMappingSet right?
