Multi-page Report
Apr 12, 2008
I currently have two different reports that I print and then combine together, with multiple records printed with both reports. This works ok but I'd like to combine them. I need to still have two pages print. Is there a way to combine these? The db is being used for an event where I need to get the pages printed quickly so if they can be combined it would sure help out.

How do I display multiple parameter values on report page from a multi-value report parameter. For example, I have a report parameter where users can select multiple attendance codes and I want them displayed at the top of the report after it's run.
Currently, only the first value is showing on the report.
Thanks.

I have a multi-column report with a page header that spans the width of the report. Whenever I close the report and reopen it, the header is changed to the width of the column. This isn't a real big deal because I deploy it with the header across the whole page; but once in a blue moon I accidentally hit the F5 key (which I am used to using for refresh in other environments I work in) and the report gets redeployed with the messed up header. Is there anyway to stop RS from automatically adjusting the page header?
And is there anyway to disable the F5 key from deploying the reports. I do use it to build and run windows apps, and don't want to change that, but I don't want to deploy 80+ reports when I accidentially hit it.
Thanks.

Hi,
I'm trying to get a data value to appear in the report footer on each page of my report. Using the technique described in various text books etc. I have placed a hidden text box in the report body, and the footer references this text box value.
The report is 4 pages long when I print preview it. The hidden field was initially placed near the top of the report body, so it is there on page 1 in print preview and the footer works on page 1. Pages 2,3,4 (where the hidden field ain't) just gets #Error in the footer.
If I simply move the hidden field further down in the report body so that now its on page 2 in print preview, then guess what - the footer now works on page 2 but errors everywhere else!
Why are ReportItems not known across the whole report? This is maddening. Does anyone know how to make a simple hidden text box value, that is referenced by the page footer, work so that every instance of the page footer shows the correct value?
thankyou

When I use the PageBreakAtEnd on the table or on a group in the table, all it does is create a new column of the column report.
I'd want it to start a new page, how can I do this ? Should I work around this issue using code ?
Background: What I need to achieve is a report with 2 columns where the list of products in category 1 are listed in the left column and then snake to the 2nd column on the same page, then to column 1 on page 2, column 2 on page 2, etc...
When it comes to category 2, it should start a fresh new page regardless of whether the previous product was rendered in column 1 or column 2.
I get the snaking to work using the "Columns" property of the report Body. However page breaks do not start a new page, they just start a new column.

Hi out there
It seams that I have run into a know and apparently unsolved problem.
How do I force a page break, not column break, on a multi-column report?
I have 4 columns, my data is grouped and is setup to page break after each group.
But all I get is a column break, due to RS thinking of column's as pages.
Several people have posted about the same problem, but I can't find a solution. See...

Hi All,
I am having a main report having two subreports, say M1,S1 and S2 respectively.
The issue is S2 normally tend to go beyond one page, for all pages except first page of the of the subreport I am getting the page header and footer blank,
Actually this is not loading the ReportItems that are used in main report but it shows text boxes containing strings for eg . "My Name" and date functions eg Today()
Any Solution?
Thanks and Regards

What we've found is that when you have two reports where one navigates to the other, if you click on the second page of the second report, it takes you to the second page of the original report. If you navigate over to the subreport again and click for the second page, it works appropriately. This is definitely a no-go for production code and this may delay our ship date because I would think this is definitely undesirable.
Conditions:
ASP.NET Report Viewer using Remote Reports
Report that links to another report
Both reports return more than one page
Reporting Services installed
Steps to Reproduce:
Download the source code here.
Follow the directions (near the bottom of the post) to get the project set up.
Run it and click on a link in the first report to go to the second report.
Click the arrow for page 2 of the second report.
Notice how it takes you back to page 2 of the first report (this doesn't happen when you are in preview mode in the Reporting Services project and I don't believe it does this in a smart client application).
Click on a link in the first report to go back to the second report.
Click the arrow for page 2.
Notice how it takes you to page 2 of the second report.
Here is a link with source code and a more detailed explanation: http://geekswithblogs.net/robz/archive/2007/11/21/Reporting-Services-2005-BUG-Report-Linking-and-Paging---ASP.NET.aspx
So what I am looking for is both a workaround for now and if this is determined to be a bug, to be fixed in the next service pack.

Please help me in printing the page that contains report. Intially I used a Page header, at that it used to print the blank page with a header only. Now as I removed the header it is printing the page without header i.e Blank Page.. So please help me in prinitng a single page that has the report. It is urgent,..

I'm hoping that someone can shed some light on this for me... I'm using SSRS SP2 and I have a basic report using a single list object which, at the moment, should print only two pages based on the results of the underlying query. When previewing the report, it shows the two pages. But when the report is printed or exported, there is a blank page before each report page.
What I've done so far:
1) Verified the properties of the list object and made sure that 'Insert a page break before this list' is not checked
2) Ensured that there are no hidden objects that could be causing this behavior
3) Ensured that the report size + margins are within the boudaries of an standard 8.5x11 paper size
Any suggestions on something that would solve this issue?
Sam

Hi - I am pretty new to Reporting Services. I need to create a report where a single result row from the Select Statement populates an entire page of data. The regular grid or Matrix reports don't fit this need. Is there a simple way to do this?

Here's tricky one.
I have a fairly complex report that was given to me that was hard coded for single parameters. There is a dropdown for each market (created from a query in SSRS). The users have to run for each market each week.
Is there a way to use this report as a Sub-report inside a list of a master report and then use a mult-value parameter?
I want this multi-value parameter to build the values for the list and then run the "sub-report" for each value.
Essentially, I want to create a for each loop.
Any ideas?

Hi, this is my first week really trying to learn ASP.net (i'm currently working with 2.0).I have a page, that I am trying to set up that will allow the user to input data, now i'm sure that passing data from 1 webpage to 1 table in a SQL database is pretty streightforward, but how do you plan it out when you know that your web page is going to insert multiplte inserts into multiple tables, with the main table PK referencing all?Any ideas? Even just a starting point so I can get going with this? If I can help anymore, please let me know.

Hi All,
I have a question, How to user the Multi value in Visual Studio Report Designer.
My dataset contains the following
Select empno, empname, basicpay, deptcd from employee where deptcd in (substring(@gdept,1,4))
Here variable gdept is the report parameter. I am passing the value.
it works fine with single value.
( the source of gdept is a another dataset to list the deparment code+name,
Example
DEP1 - COMPUTER
DEP2 - ADMIN
DEP3 - FINANCE
)
when I preview, i have a combo box to select the department.
If I choose one deparment, it works fine.
If I choose more than one department or select all I have error message
"substring function requires 3 aruguments."
what is wrong is the query
Please advise.
Cheers,
Saleem

HI, there,
I added a new windows user "ReportUser" which is a local user (not in administrator group). When I connect to the report manage's web page, I use reportuser to log in (when the anonymous access is disabled it will ask a log in). Report builder icon is not showing up on the report manager home page.
If I log in as a user in administrator group, the reportr builder icon shows up so I can download it and build report.
I have assigned reportuser "Content manager" and "repoter builder" access to the home folder. Is there anything else I have to do to make the report build icon show up on the home page?
Thanks
Jack

HI there.
I have been working on this for quite some time and I can not figure out what I am doing wrong.
I have a report filter called ItemFilter and I have declared as a report parameter where the multi value checkbox is checked. The values from this filter are coming from the item table.
SO the users drilldown on the filter when they run the report an select the Items that they would like to display info for. I had the following code before in the where
where
([CRONUS International Ltd_$Item].No_ = @itemfilter). This only worked if they selected on item from the list.
I want them to be able to select multiple Items or all. The code above did not work because there were commas separating one item from the other and I was getting an error.
I changed to
whrere
([CRONUS International Ltd_$Item].No_ IN (@itemfilter)).
Now this only returns the first item that I enter on my Itemfilter parameter.
Does anyone have any clue in regards to this ?? I am sure I am using the wrong syntax, but I do not know what to change it too.
Thanks

Hi,
I have created a multi column report (2 columns), which is working fine. However, I need to have a chart on the same report, but it needs to be the width of the page, and not just the width of one column.
If I could put the chart in the report footer / header that would be perfect, but obviously I can't!
Has anyone else come across this, and any ideas / suggestions you have would be appreciated!
Cheers

I have indicated 3 multi-columns in the report properties and see the multiple columns in the layout, but I must need to do something else because the report is still printing in one column to multiple pages. This should all fit on 1 page if the list will wrap or snake as it says it the directions for using multi-column reports.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a parameterized main report that contains a link to a sub report with parameters. Then from the sub report I have a link that takes you back to main report. If I use multi value parameters or single value parameters the links going back and forth between the two reports works just dandy, when I run it on my PC. However when I deploy the reports to the Web Server, the link going from the sub report back to the main report only works if the parameters are single select. Going from the Main to the Sub it doesn€™t matter.
This is the error I get using multi select parameters going from the sub report back to the main.
The path of the item "(null)" is not valid. The path must be less than 260 characters long and must start with slash. Other restrictions apply. (rsInvalidItemPath)
Any suggestions?
