Multi-value Parameter Dropdown Horizontal Scrollbar Problem

Hi,
I wonder if anyone ecountered (and successfully solved) the following problem:
I have a query-based multi-valued parameter (let's call it "A"). When query that populates the parameter returns only one value and that value is a long text, then it's almost impossible to select this value through the Report Manager UI. It's because the horizontal scrollbar covers the value.
For now I have found two workarounds to this problem:
1. Cut the lenght of the Parameter Label value (Instead of 'Large Power Transformer", I show "Large Power Tran...")
2. Make the label in the multi-value dropdown smaller by using custom style sheets for report manager. I added a "LABEL { font-size: 7pt; }" section to the Htmlviewer.css and modified the RSReportServer.config file to point to the Htmlviewer.css (for info on how to do this please see: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345247.aspx)
So far I am using the No 2. workaround. Any other suggestions on final solution to that matter would be highly appreciated.
Our clients working with the Firefox browser on a Mac are unable to use the Multi-Value parameter drop down lists that the Report Viewer control generates. Of course I realize that the multi-select dropdown lists are not really dropdown option lists using the standard HTML select tag, but are rather tables within div tags with cells that contain spans, inputs, and labels.
Originally the report viewer displayed these lists in the wrong position within Firefox on any platform (Mac or PC). Furthermore, there were other visibility problems with those lists that made it virtually impossible to select a checkbox within the list. Fortunately, Microsoft fixed this problem with the latest version of Report Viewer, which we downloaded from the following link: http://207.46.19.190/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=cc96c246-61e5-4d9e-bb5f-416d75a1b9ef&displaylang=en
So currently we have SQL Reporting Services Report Viewer 9.0.21022.8 installed on our web server. And the dropdown lists do appear as expected, and they work properly in Firefox on a PC.
But, when the control is rendered in Firefox on a Mac, the list is not scrollable. The scroll bar that should appear on the right-hand side of the dropdown list, which would enable users to select values toward the bottom of the list, does not appear. That scrollbar is missing in Firefox.
This is likely related to a Firefox rendering issue with the overflow:auto style. There are numerous entries on the web that indicate Firefox for Mac has a problem with overflow:auto. That being the case, it seems that there should be some workaround to address this, either via a style or through some alternate control. Or perhaps there is a property that we can apply to the ReportViewer control that I'm unaware of which addresses this.

Is there a report viewer property that needs to be set to enable the horizontal scroll bar. My reports are being cut off at the end of the iframe. I have several other reports that do show the horizontal scroll bar, but for some reason all my reports in the newly created project do not allow horizontal scrolling. Vertical scrolling is still available.
I am working with a dynamically populated multi value parameter drop down list. In the case where there is only one value in the list, the horizontal scroll bar (due to the length of the value) covers up the first, and in this case only choice. The users cannot see it. This problem is only when running in report manager. It works ok in Visual Studio.
As a work around, I can add a dummy row, which then at least the users can see one row of data and then scroll down but, I would rather not do that, if there is another solution. Another option would be to set the default on the parameter so it is automatically selected but, in the case where there are many values, I do not want a default set.
Hello Everyone, I am trying to expand the multi-valued parameter menu object so I can display the selection list in a more user-friendly format since the text is fairly long. If left at the default setting then I have to scroll to the right to see the complete string(s). For a single-select parameter I can just CAST the string to CHAR(100) and the menu object will expand. However, it seems that this approach is not working for multi-valued parameter menu objects. Is this a bug in SSRS, and is there another way to accomplish this. Please let me know.
I have a report with a multi-value parameter. In its' drop drop box, I can select ALL or I can individually select single items, but it doesn't appear that I can select a range of items using the shift key. The problem is; occasionally the user will want to select everything, and them eliminate an item or two. The list it too long to select every one individually. It would be an easy solution if hey could select the entire list, then deselect what they don't want. Is there a way?
I have a report that has 2 dropdowns, selecting from the first dropdown populates the second one. This works fine in the BI Studio.
When I deploy this report to the 'Report Manager' and make a selection from the first dropdown, the second dropdown loads (as expected). I tried to select from the second dropdown (which has only 1 item - which is correct), the dropdown does not appear correctly - as in, I can't see that item.

If you look closely at the screenshot from the link above, you'll see that there is a value in the second dropdown - it just won't show completely - as if the dropdown is not rendering correctly. I can view source on the page and see that the dropdown has a value.
What appears to be happening is the if only 1 item is in the second dropdown and that item is longer than the size of the dropdown, the dropdown won't render.
Here is my value for the second dropdown '012 Candy Gadler David Thapero'. This is the only value in the second dropdown. - You can try 35 chars or more in the dropdown to confirm.
Notes: + No special chars are in either dropdown + I am using IE 7 (Also had someone test this on IE 6 - same problem) + Using Visual Studio 2005 to build report - where this works fine
Work around: + If I add another item to the dropdown via a UNION query, I see the original value + the new item in the dropdown #2
Hi there, May be a kind of dumb question, but I have a multi-value parameter that I would like to give users the ability to select from in a SSRS 2005 Report and I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the width of the drop down so the user wouldn't have to scroll horizontally to see a full parameter item. It looks like it cuts off after about 30 characters.
I am building a report with several search parameters; three of which are dropdown boxes each populated by a data set. I wanted something more user-friendly than the default "(Null)" in the dropdown, so for each data set, it returns a result set UNIONed with " N/A" to show up first as the default.
For some reason, when the report loads, the first dropdown populates just fine and does indeed have the default value " N/A" but the other two dropdowns are grayed-out. Until you change the first dropdown (to anything, apparently it doesn't matter what you change it to) the other two stay grayed-out. When the first is changed, the other two are populated and default to the desired " N/A" default value.
Why would it do this, when it didn't do it before; i.e. when the default for all of them was simply null. The dropdowns are not dependent on each other; they don't depend on other parameters for their values. Any help would be appreciated.
Does anyone know how to control the width of the parameter dropdownlist? If you select "Multi-value" for the parameter (non-sp1 version) the parameter list is in a dropdownlist that is manageable in size. If you do not use the multi-value parameter, it looks like the width of the dropdownlist is determined by the width of the longest text of the returned parameters.
Is there any way to control the width of the dropdown?
I believe somebody know the reason. Please help me on it!
I plan to pass a multivalued parameter from my web application to the server report, and let user select the value(s) from the value set. But when I run the report, there's no checkbox leftside of the values, that means user has no choice on this parameter.
I am developing reports using SQL Reporting Services 2005. These reports have some single valued parameters and these parameters will be provided in report viewer itself. These parameters should have "All" as default. "Select All" comes by default in Multivalue report parameter. But for single value parameter it always shows "<Select a value>" and if the user does not select a value,it prompts for one.I need to remove <Select Value> and show "All" as default thereby user does not have to select a value.
I can include "All" as a part of the select query in the parameter's datasource so that it can be shown in the parameter dropdown . However, I am not sure how I can remove "<Select a value>" from the dropdown.
Hi All i have created one report using SSRS 2005, in this report one parameter is multivalue parameter, this report preview working fine and user able to select multivalues. but the problem is i deployed this report in server and opened in client system (reports shown to user using report viewer in aspx pages), i am able to access the report but multivalue parameter dropdown is not working. when i clicked on multivalue parameter dropdown report refreshing and remaining parameters default vaues coming up.. i am unable to find the solution please anyone help me
Hi, I have dropdown parameter with multi-values allowed. In my report headed I want to show all the dropdown values that were checked by the user to run the report. But since there could be a couple of hundred values I want to show ALL when all the values are selected instead of listing them one by one. How can I do that? Thanks,
I have two report , first is main report which is matrix and have one parameter User_ids which is multi value selection and my second report is basic chart of user_wise performance.
Now, my main report (matrix ) works fine for Multiple selection of users and i have putted one textbox on main report chart which has action properties set for chart report, when user click on chart button it must goes to chart with user selected in main report. Now , i have used expression for parameter to send it like ..
=join(parameter!user_id!value,",") which pass selected value to chartÂ
And when I am selecting single user it passing that value to chart parameter list but , when it is more than one user it errors with conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value '121,128' to data type int. But my chart also works when passing 121,128 in user parameter in preview of report .
I would like to be able to adjust the multi-value property of a parameter based on the value of another parameter in my report. The controlling paramter would be binary with two options for Single or Multiple selection. I would like my parameter to default to multi-value, which I can do on the screen selection. I have tried to add an IIF statement to the XML code, with no success. Any ideas would be helpful.
I have just started using SQL Server reporting services and am stuck with creating subreports.
I have a added a sub report to the main report. When I right click on the sub report, go to properties -> Parameters, and click on the dropdown for Parameter Value, I see all Sum and Count fields but not the data fields.
For example, In the dropdownlist for the Parameter value, I see Sum(Fields!TASK_ID.Value, "AppTest"), Count(Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, "CammpTest") but not Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, Fields!TASK_ID.Value which are the fields retrieved from the dataset assigned to the subreport.
When I manually change the parameter value to Fields!TASK_ID.Value, and try to preview the report, I get Error: Subreport could not be shown. I have no idea what the underlying issue is but am guessing that it's because the field - Fields!TASK_ID.Value is not in the dropdown but am trying to link the main report and sub report with this field.
Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated.
In my report i have a multi valued parameter, when i view my report in the Web application with Report Viewer, The multi valued parameter is displaying in light color.Can we able to change this.
I have a stored procedure im passing into Reporting Services. Only problem is , What do i need to change to allow the user to select more then one value. I already know what to do on the reporting services side, but it keeps erroring with the data source IE my stored procedure. Here's the code:

Hi: I am building a report and have a few parameters. One of this parameters is set up as Multi-Value. When I only select one value everything is running fine. But when I select multi values I get an error saying I must declare my variable.

I'm trying to build a sproc that will return rows even if some of the parameters are blank. For example; if a user does not enter a priority, a status, or a caller the sproce should still return rows based on the other parameters. Can anyone help me find a way to modify my sproc bellow to allow this? Problem: I have a set of 24 matrix's that need to calculate the difference between the last two years and display in a field to the right of the last rendered column. Since I have been struggling with this, let's just assume there is no better way than how I currently have it set up. (one table that does the calculations for me and I set one field on the report to display the most recent two columns difference in my report)
what I can not figure out is: when I choose one of my parameters the report displays the information I want...but when I choose more than one...well there is the problem....
In order to obtain the most help for myself I will ask this in the most general way possible so as not to get bogged down into my specific solution...
Desired Result: How to pass all my parameter values from my multi-value parameter during runtime to a SQL Stored proc from my dataset within Reporting Services at runtime, Match the parameter to the field, get the result and store it in a variable, then do it again and add the second to the first within the variable, and so on and so on , until all of the parameters are used. Then sum the values and display in a field.
Several people have asked about this, but I have not seen a response that works. I have several parameters that I want to use as filters. If a particular filter parameter is not entered, the report should not apply a filter on that criterion. It works fine to create a single value parameter which allows null, and use the following in SQL:
WHERE ( [Field1] = @Field1_Filter OR @Field1_Filter IS NULL )
How can the same effect be achieved for a multi-value parameter? If you try to create a multi-value parameter which allows null, the report builder gives an error. I can't use "allow blank value" because some of my parameters are integer parameters. Without the allow null, the report generator requires me to enter at least one value. So I don't know how you can get a value of "not entered" into a multi-value parameter.
I also don't know how you would check for the "not entered". Someone suggested the following SQL:
WHERE ( [Field1] IN (@Field1_Filter) OR @Field1_Filter IS NULL )
This generates an error when generating the report if multiple values are entered for the parameter (the normal condition). The error is " An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near ',' ".
i'm trying to perform a query against a db2 database like this:
SELECT ... FROM ... WHERE (field IN (?))
Then i let reporting services pass the parameter to the report. When i try to preview the report, i get the following error:
An error occurred during local report processing, An error has occured during report processing, Cannot add multi value query parameter '?' for data set ... because it is not supported by the data extension
But when i type the query like this
SELECT ... FROM ... WHERE (field IN ('value1','value2'))
it executes flawlessly.
I am using the IBM ole db driver for db2 if that matters
I have been working on this for quite some time and I can not figure out what I am doing wrong. I have a report filter called ItemFilter and I have declared as a report parameter where the multi value checkbox is checked. The values from this filter are coming from the item table. SO the users drilldown on the filter when they run the report an select the Items that they would like to display info for. I had the following code before in the where
where ([CRONUS International Ltd_$Item].No_ = @itemfilter). This only worked if they selected on item from the list.
I want them to be able to select multiple Items or all. The code above did not work because there were commas separating one item from the other and I was getting an error.
I changed to
whrere
([CRONUS International Ltd_$Item].No_ IN (@itemfilter)).
Now this only returns the first item that I enter on my Itemfilter parameter.
Does anyone have any clue in regards to this ?? I am sure I am using the wrong syntax, but I do not know what to change it too.
I've designed a Reporting Services report that has a multi-value parameter. The report works just great. The only issue I'm running into is that the users are complaining that when they want to select the values, within the multi-value parameter box, they have to scroll it to the sides way too much. This also makes them select values by mistake.
Is there away to inscrease the width of the multi-value parameter box?
I am experiencing a problem with the multi-value parameter dropdown in the ReportViewer when using FireFox, but in IE it seems to work fine. The symptom is when I click on the dropdown the list of options appears and then quickly disappears before I can select anything and I only experience the problem with multi-value parameters. I also have noticed that the dropdown is grayed out but I can still click it. Also, the position of the dropdown options are different in FireFox (pushed all the way to the left). I have created a very basic example at https://www.register4this.com/testreport.aspx to demonstrate the problem. There is no report, only the single "Orgs" parameter to keep things as simple as possible.
I suspect that I am missing something obvious because I haven't been able to find anyone else reporting this issue so any help would be appreciated. My ReportView control is configured as follows:
Is it possible to pass a multi value parameter from one report to another using the "jump to report" feature?
ie;
I have report A that has a mutli value parameter (para1). This report has a link with the action property set to jump to another report(Report B). Report B requires the same multivalue parameter. I have tries setting the parameter in the interface as well as trying the join function. Nothing seems to pass the values correctly.
