Multiple Checkbox Field Width In A Report Parameter.
Oct 30, 2007
Hello,
I have a report where I'm showing a list of users to select.
When previewing the report, the width of the field is automatically set to the largest label in the dropdown list.
But when I change the parameter to have "Multi-Values", then the width is set to a fixed value and a horizontal scrollbar appears.
Does anyone know how to have a "Multi-Values" parameter, but keeping the lasgest width of the labels in the dropdown list ?
Thanks in advance

it looks like a multi value parameter is the only kind of parameter that displays a checkbox.
A single checkbox for yes/no parameters are more intuitive to my users than 2 choices from a query.
I tried to set the multi value attribute on such a param but at run time get errors from a couple of places 1) expressions that reference such a parameter, seemingly confused about the value field being allowed to be either an object or an integer 2) unchecking the checkbox causes a prompt demanding that a value be set.
Does anybody have a trick or see what I am missing in trying to make a parameter act like a single yes/no checkbox in just one line of a dropdown parameter list?

My value is approx 50 characters wide, the parameter drop down is only displaying about 10 characters, although I have plenty of room on the screen.
Also, in a multi-parameter environment, are there any controls on where the parameters are being displayed?
thanks

Hello,
I have a report in which one parameter has with multiple selections (List of CheckBoxes). SSRS automatically adds a "Select All" value as the first option. I'm showing a User Type list, but for example, usually the user running the report will be selecting two or three sets of "User Types" (*), then I named those selections and put them in the list also. The list looks like:
"Select All"
IT Users (*)
HR Users (*)
Programmers
DB Analyst... etc...
What I'm trying to do is that when the user selects "IT Users" (per example), then the options "Programmers" and "DB Analyst" will be checked automatically, because they belong to "IT Users" group.
Any help will be appreciated... Thanks in advance

Does anyone know how to control the width of the parameter dropdownlist? If you select "Multi-value" for the parameter (non-sp1 version) the parameter list is in a dropdownlist that is manageable in size. If you do not use the multi-value parameter, it looks like the width of the dropdownlist is determined by the width of the longest text of the returned parameters.
Is there any way to control the width of the dropdown?
Thanks

I have a subreport on my main report, and the subreport contains a matrix. When I run the report, the subreport seems to expand beyond the width of the main report. The matrix itself does not expand beyond the width of the body of the main report, but for some reason it seems that the subreport does. The subreport does not contain any headers that might be messing up the width. If I cut and paste the matrix from the subreport directly onto the main report, and remove the subreport, it prints fine. But as soon as I include the subreport on the main report it prints with blank pages because the subreport expands beyond the width of the body of the main report. I have checked the width and margins on the subreport and compared to the width of the main report and all looks good. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Hi,
I've a report projects where each report has a number of columns and the spec is to have all the columns print-out on the same page. Is there a setting that will auto-scale these columns to fit to the page or will I have to edit the font size and widths manually on each report to fit to the page?
Thanks for any comments.

Hi All,
I have a database table with a bit field. In my .aspx page I have a checkbox that is checked by default. My SqlDataSource is set up like so:
InsertCommand="INSERT INTO Studies (Study_Name, Study_Status) VALUES (@StudyName, @StudyStatus)"> <InsertParameters> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="txtStudyName" Name="StudyName" PropertyName="Text" Type="String"/> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="chkboxStudyStatus" Name="StudyStatus" PropertyName="Text" Type="Boolean"/>
I'm getting an error when inserting.
Error: Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'Study_Status', table 'Studies'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated.

Hi,
I believe somebody know the reason. Please help me on it!
I plan to pass a multivalued parameter from my web application to the server report, and let user select the value(s) from the value set. But when I run the report, there's no checkbox leftside of the values, that means user has no choice on this parameter.
Is there any way to do it?
Thanks,
Jone

I am currently writing a report that will use as one of the filters the date (in this case it is the date of service of a physician office visit).
however the DB developers included the date and the time of the visit in one field so my resulting data set contains 4/13/2007 4:30pm for example, so using an @date parameter as a filter on the data field doesn't work because when you run the report and enter the date in the parameter it doesn't return anything.
I am an SQL Report writer amateur so I am sure there is an easy fix, any and all help will be appreciated.

Edited by SomeNewKid. Please post code between <code> and </code> tags.
This is probaly the easiest question you've ever read but here goes.
I have a simple checkbox value that i want to insert into the database but whatever i do it does not seem to let me.
Here is my code:
Sub AddSection_Click(Sender As Object, e As EventArgs)
Dim myCommand As SqlCommand
Dim insertCmd As String
' Build a SQL INSERT statement string for all the input-form
' field values.
insertCmd = "insert into Customers values (@SectionName, @SectionLink, @Title, @NewWindow, @LatestNews, @Partners, @Support);"
' Initialize the SqlCommand with the new SQL string.
myCommand = New SqlCommand(insertCmd, myConnection)
' Create new parameters for the SqlCommand object and
' initialize them to the input-form field values.
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@SectionName", SqlDbType.nVarChar, 50))
myCommand.Parameters("@SectionName").Value = Section_name.Value
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@SectionLink", SqlDbType.nVarChar, 80))
myCommand.Parameters("@SectionLink").Value = Section_link.Value
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Title", SqlDbType.nVarChar, 50))
myCommand.Parameters("@Title").Value = Section_title.Value
If New_window.Checked = false Then
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@NewWindow", SqlDbType.bit, 1))
myCommand.Parameters("@NewWindow").Value = 0
else
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@NewWindow", SqlDbType.bit, 1))
myCommand.Parameters("@NewWindow").Value = 1
End If
If Latest_news.Checked = false Then
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@LatestNews", SqlDbType.bit, 1))
myCommand.Parameters("@LatestNews").Value = 0
else
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@LatestNews", SqlDbType.bit, 1))
myCommand.Parameters("@LatestNews").Value = 1
End If
If Partners.Checked = false Then
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Partners", SqlDbType.bit, 1))
myCommand.Parameters("@Partners").Value = 0
else
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Partners", SqlDbType.bit, 1))
myCommand.Parameters("@Partners").Value = 1
End If
If Support.Checked = false Then
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Support", SqlDbType.bit, 1))
myCommand.Parameters("@Support").Value = 0
else
myCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Support", SqlDbType.bit, 1))
myCommand.Parameters("@Support").Value = 1
End If
myCommand.Connection.Open()
' Test whether the new row can be added and display the
' appropriate message box to the user.
Try
myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
Message.InnerHtml = "Record Added<br>" & insertCmd
Catch ex As SqlException
If ex.Number = 2627 Then
Message.InnerHtml = "ERROR: A record already exists with " _
& "the same primary key"
Else
Message.InnerHtml = "ERROR: Could not add record, please " _
& "ensure the fields are correctly filled out"
Message.Style("color") = "red"
End If
End Try
myCommand.Connection.Close()
BindGrid()
End Sub
Any response would be appreciated

I need to somehow set up a third parameter which allows me to control the tag quantity type either by ALL - % , IS NULL, or IS NOT NULL.
I tried TAG_QUANTITY LIKE :Tags but this would only work if I had the % option select and not the IS NULL or IS NOT NULL
Any thoughts on how to format the select statement?
SELECT ORGANIZATION_ID, TAG_ID, PHYSICAL_INVENTORY_ID, TAG_NUMBER, CREATION_DATE, VOID_FLAG, TAG_QUANTITY, TAG_UOM, SUBINVENTORY,
LOCATOR_ID, COUNTED_BY_EMPLOYEE_ID

WHERE (ORGANIZATION_ID = ite) AND (PHYSICAL_INVENTORY_ID = :InventoryID) AND (VOID_FLAG = 2) AND TAG_QUANTITY IS NULL

I have a checkbox on my webform that is bound to a bit field in my SQL table. I'm fine as long as I've got the bit field set to 0 or 1, but if the field is NULL, the checkbox throws an exception during the databind.
Is there any way to handle this without removing the data binding and manually setting the value (ie: some way to intercept it before the exception gets thrown and then setting the field value in the dataset)?
Thanks!

Hello,
I have a report which displays a customers invoice, in both the companys local currency, and the customers local currency.
The report language is "English (United Kingdom)"
The fields showing customers currency language setting is set to something else, i.e. "France (French)" to display the Euro currency.
The application handles 34 currencies, the query returns the language string, ("France (French)"), to allow the report to bind its language setting to the querys output.
However, it doesn't work, a normal textbox will display the correct country name string, but Reporting Services cannot bind the language setting to a query result. So I also tried setting it as a report parameter, but no joy either (all currencys revert to USD).
I'm using =First(Fields!curFormat.Value, "myDataSet") to bind the 'language' setting, the result of this expression returns "France (French)", which is a valid option for this language setting, as it's in the drop down list.
Rather than create 34 seperate reports for each currency, are there any suggestions on how to bind a fields language setting to a query result?

Good afternoon,
I've designed a Reporting Services report that has a multi-value parameter. The report works just great. The only issue I'm running into is that the users are complaining that when they want to select the values, within the multi-value parameter box, they have to scroll it to the sides way too much. This also makes them select values by mistake.
Is there away to inscrease the width of the multi-value parameter box?
Best regards.

I have a report that uses several filters including a from and to date filter, I have a field named TimeLastMod which is a Timestamp. I am extracting the From and To dates from this field using Select format(TimeLastMod,'MMM') as FromMonth, format(TimeLastMod,'MMM') as ToMonth From Eventlogs syntax.
These I pass on to a parameter and eventually to a tablix filter in an between opeartion. When I run the report, the records returned by the report is not what is expected as it sometimes returns an extra months data e.g., using between Aug and Sept will return october data as well.

Hi there,
May be a kind of dumb question, but I have a multi-value parameter that I would like to give users the ability to select from in a SSRS 2005 Report and I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the width of the drop down so the user wouldn't have to scroll horizontally to see a full parameter item. It looks like it cuts off after about 30 characters.
Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I would like to know how does subreport accept multi value, and how should i modify my expression so that the sub report will display correctly.
My main report will pass dynamic number of account number to sub report, it depends on how many account number a person has. I have my sub report parameter Data Type set as "Allow multiple values" and the visibility is "Visible".
Currently, I am using the following expression to try to pass multi value from main report to sub report. I had tested the result of that expression. It is showing the following result when there are 3 account numbers to pass to sub report.
1534896
1563498
1593548
With that expression, when only one account no is pass from main report to sub report, the sub report will display the result. But when more than one account numbers are passing over, the sub report display nothing, it is blank.
--expression
=Join(LookupSet(Fields!PersonNo.Value,Fields!PersonNo.Value,Fields!AccountNo.Value,
"accounts"),""
+ VBCRLF)
*Note: I cannot put the account number into a multivalue parameter in the main report and pass from that parameter to sub report. I know this will workd BUT I had tried that by setting the default value in the multivalue parameter to the dataset that consists of the account number. That involves 100 thousand plus plus account numbers and it will for sure over the limit of 8000 characters.

I'm trying to create a report that will be data-driven and produce multiple reports based on a parameter. For example, 5 reports go out today based on invoice numbers from yesterday. Each invoice can have multiple trasnsaction lines and each line contains the invoice number. What I have so far is only taking the first invoice number (let's say it has 10 transactions) and sending me the same report 10 times and stopping.
I get nothing for the remaining 4 invoices/reports. Here is what I have. To me this should enter the distinct invoice no's from yesterday into #temp, while a invoice no exiists begin query with one invoice selected from #temp then delete that invoice no and select another one and repeat till no more invoice no's. But it's only going through the one invoice no.
select distinct InvoiceNo
into #temp
from table
where Invoicedate between getdate()-1 and getdate()
declare @InvoiceNo VARCHAR(25)
[Code] ....

I have used my parameter value in where clause of my dataset control SQL query. When I choose a single value in my multiple-value parameter then I get output as expected. Hovewer when I choose multuple values I get an arror:
Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced with EXISTS.
----------------------------
Query execution failed for dataset 'DATABASE'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
----------------------------
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
I am convinced that it's a syntax problem. Is there a way I can change syntax of data output from query:
select @parameter
I need output to be like: value, value, value ... etc.
The dataset control query looks something like the following:
select
ID,
a,
b,
c,
d
from DATASET.dbo.Table
where ID in (select @parameter)
I have been searching through google for weeks to solve this and got this far and got stuck. Is it possible at all to achieve what I am looking for?

I am creating a SSRS report using a SSAS cube as it data source. The user would like to select multiple values from a reporting parameter that is then used as a filter on the MDX statement. I am bale to have the report work successfully when only one value is selected but not when multiple values are selected; the report uses only the first value from the reporting parameter when it contains multiple values. How do I filter an MDX query using a SSRS report parameter with multiple values?
