Im developing a web application which would make access to multiple distributive databases. The problem is....the database from all the third parties may have different standard.
For instance....a user wish to retrive a record from many databases, he input "Pentium 4" .....but some database may have different standard, they may have a record with name "P4" instead of "Pentium 4"....so my question is , how should i make it standard ?? thanks
Hi Everyone,I have one database file which needs to be accesable to both a .net website and a vb.net application. The application collects data from the 'real world', processes it and adds the data to the database. The Website reads data from the database and displays the data in a graphical format. Now for the problem; While the Application is connected to the database (adding data), the Website is denied acces to the database. All connections to the DB are disposed when the Application is not uploading data, but the Website continues to be locked out (making it pretty useless) Closing the Application makes the Website work fine, but of course this means no 'real world' data can be updated. Can anyone suggest what is happening here, and more importantly how to fix it? A walkthrough must be available for this problem somewhere,... I just can't find it :(Thanks all,*The Stressed One*
I have a single database and 5 user which use this database for DDL and DML operations.
The problem we are facing here is, every time a user need to do some work in this database he/she had to ask(manually) to rest of the 4 users whether they are doing some task over the same DB or not. Sometime due to communication gap one user open any transaction which creates a deadlock for another user to execute any query over the same tables in this DBI want to get rid of this problem by making it configurable from SQL Server part so that if any user which is already accessing this DB, so the other user don't get access to it, kind of Mutually exclusive behavior.
I have been using the software, and it has been working fine (on windows user A). Now, I have created another windows user (User B), and would like to use the same software/database. The software launches fine (User B), but cannot access the created SQL database (created with user A)
How do I setup the database to allow access from all users on the same PC?
We have been asked to look into using stored procedures with SQL Server 7.0 as a way to speed up a clients site. 99% of all the articles I have read along with all the books all say Stored Procedure should be used whenever possible as opposed to putting the SQL in your ASP script. However one of my colleagues has been speaking to Microsoft and they said that that they were surprised that our client wanted to use Stored Procedures as this was the old method of database access and that now he should really consider using COM objects for data access as itis much faster. Has anyone got any views on this or know of any good aticles regarding this matter ?
I'm trying to create a database that takes specific information from a number of databases on different servers to make some reporting that we have much easier.
I'm pretty new to SQL so I'm not sure of the best way to proceed. I read an article that suggested I use the OPENROWSET command. The problem is, the version of SQL that came with one of the programmes we use is limited and will not allow you to turn on the allow "Ad Hoc distributed Queries" so the SLQ statement will not execute.
I'm confused why it won't let me to connect through ODBC as I've created a web page that selects data from this database with no problems!
Here is the SQL statement that I've written to make sure it is the correct one (on the msdn library page it said that this was the ODBC connection):
SELECT a.* FROM OPENROWSET('MSDASQL','DRIVER=(SQL Server);SERVER=APPOLOACT7;UID=sa;PWD=***************', 'SELECT * FROM MDCTestAndDev.dbo.TBL_CONTACT') AS a
I've also created the ODBC connection using the tool on Administration Tools>Data Sources ODBC
Any help would be greatly appreciated (also any ways of selecting from one database and inserting it into another will be helpfull)
I have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.
But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013. The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.
I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.
I developed a database with Access 2003 and everything was working good until my tech came in and reformated my hard drive and install a new Ghost image that met our company standards.
Now I cannot go in and make any changes to any of the tables, queries and forms. All of this started when a new Ghost image was installed on my pc.
The message I get when I try to open my database is "You do not have permission to run "tblSwitchboard." I get the same error message when I try to do anything at all on the database.
I am trying to deny select, insert, update and delete to multiple tables with the same beginning table names. For example I have 55 tables with the table names beginning with CAL_MM_. Can I use 1 deny statement which will include all 55 tables? How can I use the wildcard? Thanks
I try to fill a recordset with a query in an asp page to an SQL Server through ODBC connection : The ODBC connection (eg : DB1Cnnection) is done to one Database (eg : DB1). and I need to link to another Database (eg : DB2)
it `s like : set rs=DB1Connection.Execute("Select DB1.xxx FROM TABLE1, TABLE2 WHERE ...")
Please, How do I `tell` to ODBC that TABLE2 is in DB2 ??? HELP !
I am converting some access to SQL at work and I am having a problem with a query that uses the access FIRST function
My query looks like this in access
SELECT TBL1.ID , FIRST(TBL1.Code) AS FirstCode FROM TBL1 WHERE TBL1.Marker = 'X' AND Left(ID,1) IN('A','B','C','D','E') GROUP BY ID
I have tried to convert it using a slightly different method. So instead of picking the first value of the Code field that appears in the select, (which is what access would do and SQL can’t do as far as I’m aware). I first select the ID and code with the highest value associated with them. The below script is what I did. I would’ve thought they would produce the same number of records but they don’t.
SELECT ID , Code FirstCode FROM ( SELECT ID , Code , MAX(Value) MaxValue FROM TBL1 WHERE TBL1.Marker = 'X' AND LEFT(ID,1) IN('A','B','C','D','E') GROUP BY ID , Code ) T1
I’ve been asked to migrate many Access databases to SQL Server. There are no reports, queries or forms in these databases. There are two different database structures. Each has many copies with different data. For example, 80 people each have a copy of abc.mdb. Each copy has the same tables, but different data. The databases cannot be merged without modifying the structure of the databases and the programs that access them. There are over 100 databases ranging in size from 2 MB to 60 MB.
What’s the best approach to do this? I don’t want to manually run each through the upsize wizard.
Should I use a local SQL Server Express or a central SQL Server?
Will there be any benefits to doing this? Will the performance improve?
Personally I’d rather redesign the databases, merge the data and modify the applications that use the data. But it’s not my decision.
I have an ETL project that I want to ask a question about. I want to loop through a folder containing several Access databases, and extract and load each one into a single SQL Server 2005 database. The table layout is the same for all the Access dbs, as well as the SQL db. The number of Access dbs in the folder, their records, and their names will change. Is there a way i can use the SSIS Foreach tool to move through the folder and set the connection string inside the loop?
There are several instances in SQL Server. I use RDA method to access SQL Server from mobile devices. But RDA method only gets the server IP,not the instance name. So, how can I define RDA to access to the instance that I need?
I am currently running sql 2005 express on a W2k3 server, 4G ram. I would also like to install a named instance of SQL 2005 Developer Edition on this machine. Is this ok to do? I am assuming that I can access all of the instances through the SQL Server Management Studio, is that correct?
i am using asp.net vb, i have 2 table show as below if i want to delete the forumid 1 row, then how would i delete the topic table who belong to the forumid 1. how would 1 do it if i am using gridview Forum table Forumid | Forumname 1 | hi 2 | me Topic table Topicid | Forumid | Topicname 1 | 1 | yo 2 | 1 | everyone 3 | 1 | google
I'm trying to code a query in Access that finds rows w/ duplicate "ContactKeys" then finds duplicate "AddressLine1s" out of the list of duplicate "ContactKeys." (I tried subqueries but it was really slow)
I am trying to create a new table with only duplicate ContactKey rows, and then I wanted to use that table to pick out the duplicate AddressLine1 rows.
Code:
SELECT * INTO dupContactKeys FROM Contacts WHERE ContactKey IN ( SELECT ContactKey FROM Contacts GROUP BY ContactKey HAVING COUNT(*) > 1)
SELECT * FROM dupContactKeys WHERE ContactKey IN ( SELECT AddressLine1, Zip FROM Contacts GROUP BY AddressLine1, Zip HAVING COUNT(*) > 1) ORDER BY ContactKey, TypeKey;
drop table dupContactKeys
This of course doesn't work. Please help, as I am going slightly mad!
Using SSE 2012 64-bit.I need to insert records from multiple Access Tables into 1 Table in SSE and ensure no duplicates are inserted. This is executing, but is very slow, is there a faster way?
Code: INSERT INTO dbTarget.dbo.tblTarget (All fields) SELECT (All Fields) FROM dbSource.dbo.tblSource WHERE RecordID NOT IN (SELECT RecordID FROM dbTarget.dbo.tblTarget)
We are currently using Crystal reports but are considering using SQL RS. We need to know if there is a restriction on simultanoeus access to the same report by multiple users? What happens when multiple users try to access the same report simultaneously? If reports can be accessed simultaneously, do the requests queue up or are they processed concurrently?
I am using SqlServer2005 as data base for my web application. I am able to connect to the database through DBCP connection pool . Its working fine for 2 user. When ever 2 users do transaction, it works fine. But 3 users do the transaction, its trowning error.Even i increase the pool size the behavior is same. error: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Server failed to resume the transaction, desc: 3f00000002.
For a change I wrote a connection pool to access the DB. I am getting the same error. i.e. Its working fine for 2 user and throws error for more than 2 users.
I have a software solution that consists of two separate applications that share a SQL Server Express database on a single computer. Everything is working great, except when both of the applications want to access the database at the same time. All I can find is information on configuring multi-user access in a distributed system. I'd appreciate any information on configuring multi-application access on a single computer.
I want to create a view to get records from multiple tables. I have a UserID in all the tables. When I pass UserID to view it should get records from multiple tables. I have a table
UserInfo with as data as UserID=1, FName = John, LName=Abraham and Industry = 2. I have a Industry table with data as ID=1 and Name= Sports, ID =2 and Name= Film.
When I query view where UserID=1 it should return record as
Using SQL Server Express 2005, I have two databases. AppDB - The main application database.GeoDB - A somewhat static ZIP code / states / other geographic stuff databaseI need to have some foreign key columns in tables in AppDB reference columns in the GeoDB database tables. Eventually other application database besides AppDB will be doing the same thing in our infrastructure. After googling and reading for days, here is what I think I know:You cannot create foreign keys that reference tables in another database in SQL Server. You cannot create foreign keys that reference columns in a view, and you definitely cannot make an index on a view that has base tables in another database. You can create a trigger that references tables in another database, but this can be flaky? (nested/recursive trigger problem).SQLServer 2005 supports multiple schemas within the same database. Maybe I should logically separate my databases this way? Seems like it would be a tough solution to manage since I already have some databases live in production that will eventually use this 'static' GeoDB. Also, seems like it wouldn't be as portable as keeping the GeoDB info in its own database, but maybe I'm being too software engineer-ish here - afraid of low cohesion, high coupling.I will greatly appreciate any advice I can get, or any more options I am missing. Thanks,Adam Nofsingerucnmedia.com
We have a SQL database that uses Active Directory with Windows Authentication. Can users that are members of the Active Directory group that has read/write access to the SQL database create ODBC connections to access the database directly and update the data? They dont have individual logins on the server. They are only members of the Active Directory group that has a login?
Dear All, i have a question abt winCE 4.2 and SQL server CE. i am using VB.net of Visual Studio 2005 My platform is using a PDA with winCE 4.2 and SQL server CE. The Host program is using dbf files on desktop side.
I got a problem of how to sync / read the sql CE data from a windows application.
so, i wanna ask,
1. any method to access the data from winCE data by windows application? or can i convert the sdf file to windows readable files? or any others?
2. Can i use a MDB to sync with SQL server CE? can i synchronize the mobile device which has a SQL Server CE database with the Access database on the desktop?
last question, 3. is that windows CE .net 4.2 not support pocket access (cdb) anymore?
I need detailed instructions on how to connect to a database from a Microsoft Access 2007 database to a Microsft Office Accounting 2007 database. The accounting database is an SQL 2005 datbase. It has an instance name of "MSSMLBIZ".
When I try I get an SQL error 53. Do not have permissions or database does not exist.
I'am doing functionality test on DTS packages and saving my DTS packages to meta data services instead of saving them as local packages. We would like to see what information would be provided by saving them this way, but when we try to open the meta data browser (the 3rd icon under DTS) we get the following error:
An error occurred while trying to access the database information. The msdb database could not be opened.
Hi I am wondering if anyone knows of a way of synchroniseing two versions of a database one in access and one in sql server so they can both run in parrallel in ssis for updates etc.
Also can anyone recommend a book which is easy to use or resources as I can't find what I am looking for in the online help.
I've used the ADS sample program and it works well. I looked at the code and changed it to VB (sorry, I'm not biligual yet), and have tried to 'adjust' it so I can connect to a remote PC (XP running IIS) instead of the local PC using the workgroup information database (system.mdw). Any ideas of the connection string that could make the connection?..my intention is to RDA once a week between a mobile device (3g/gsm) and a 'poor man's' IIS web server. I've tried everything I can think of, and I'm sure its possible since all I'm doing is changing the connection path.
