Multiple Select And Sum Expressions On The Same Table SQL…??
Oct 25, 2005
Little complex but I'll try to explain the best I canI have the following table…
UserID___Year___Month_____A1____A2____B1____B2
__1_______4______5______45_____5____43____0
__1_______4______6______10_____12___1_____3
__1_______5______5______12_____22___8_____7
__1_______5______6______11_____10___5_____0
__2_______4______5______9______65___33____66
__2_______4______6______3______3____10____11
__2_______5______5______44_____2___77_____1
I want to pull out the data to show the sum of the totals for each year the user is in. The idea is to then be able to see a comparison for year on year on a month by month basis
The operator for both these is set to "=", and the value is set to "=true".
Based on user selection in a report wizard, the 4th column (And/Or) may need to be changed from 'and' to 'or', or vice-versa. Is there anyway to accomplish this programatically?
I have to create an expression that makes bold the text for some possibilities, otherwise the font will keep same, is there any staff for creating an expression like "IF ID_Name IN (x,y,z...) THEN bla-bla" like querying in SQL? Cuz I have to use multiple possibilites for same condition
HiI have a large table with allot of data in it, Im trying to find the correct SQL statement to select all the records that do not start with a letter or a number.So some records may start with a '~' and a few '$' and even some '?'. So I would like a statement that would select all of these while leaving out any records that start with anything else, such as numbers or letters.And on a similar theme, Im also trying to select all records that start with a number. Ive been using the "select blah from blah where LIKE 'a%'" for each letter and ive tried to have a play and search around that statement.... Today I was told to use a regex within my 'SELECT' statement, but I had never heard of this being done before... so I done a number of searches on Google and although I found references, I didnt actually find any examples. So when I tried to put something together I kept getting errors. Ive used regular expressions before so theres no problem writing the expression that I need, however Ive no idea how to implement it into a SELECT statement.
If someone could please show me an example of the structure/syntax of an sql select query that contains a regex then I would be most appreciative! :)
Hey everyone, I have a question regarding an SQL query. I'm working on a Web App in .NET at the moment and part of the project is to produce a report of all the information about the clients. Now, there are 4 tables in question: Client, Details, Appointments and RefItem. Now, a lot of the information stored in the first 3 tables are IDs and the names corresponding to those IDs are in the RefItem table.
The RefItem table has the columns ItemID, GroupID, Name, HelpText and Active. For example, a row in the Appoinment table might contain the ID 150 under the AppointmentStatusID. In RefItem, the ID 150 corresponds with "Scheduled". So I have
Code:
SELECT Name FROM RefItem WHERE RefItem.ItemID = Appointment.AppointmentStatusID
This works fine for selecting one name, but my report requires pretty much every name. I was told I'd had to use INNER JOIN or LEFT OUTER JOIN but I can't seem to figure it out. If anyone has any info, please let me know!! Thanks
I am building an invoicing database. I have no problems searching fordue dates and generating the invoice header. The problem is generatingthe invoice detail.My customers may have more than one item that needs to go into theinvoice detail table.For example:customer #123 has 2 items that need to be placed into the detailtable.Rate 1 email accountRate 2 hosting accountI have to get both of these records into the detail table.When using the conventional method, I get something alongthe lines of" insert failed. more than one record was returned"-------INSERT INTO detailSELECT (SELECT max([id])FROM iheader),CustomerRates.custid,rates.Price, rates.nameFROM CustomerRates INNER JOIN Rates ON CustomerRates.Rateid = rates.IDWHERE NextBill > GETDATE()-------I have even considered a cursor to loop through the records but I cantmake it run properly. I am not crazy about the performance of cursorsanyway.Any aideas would be greatly apreciated.
I want to have this query insert a bunch of XML but i get this error...
Msg 128, Level 15, State 1, Procedure InsertTimeCard, Line 117
The name "ExpenseRptID" is not permitted in this context. Valid expressions are constants, constant expressions, and (in some contexts) variables. Column names are not permitted.
Msg 128, Level 15, State 1, Procedure InsertTimeCard, Line 151
The name "DateWorked" is not permitted in this context. Valid expressions are constants, constant expressions, and (in some contexts) variables. Column names are not permitted.
What am i doing wrong...Can anyone help me out!! Thanks!!
p.s I know this query looks crazy...

Hi, OK, trying to return the results from two SQL statements into a DataSet using SqlDataAdapter. The SELECT statements query the same table but are looking for different records based on the date that the records were inserted - the 1st query looks for records fro the current month and the 2nd one looks at the same records but for the previous month. The goal is to be able to do some math within a repeater and get the difference between the two records. Sounds easy enough and it has worked for me in different variations of the same idea but not this time - here's the code: Protected Sub buildPartsReport(ByVal varHC) objConn.Open() sSQL = "SELECT ap.id,item_model,item_sn,aircraft_id,item_loc=item_type+ ' on ' +(SELECT tnum FROM T_Aircraft WHERE id=aircraft_id),apt.tot_time As endTimes,apt.tot_cycles as endCycles FROM T_Aircraft_Parts ap, T_Aircraft_Parts_Totals apt WHERE ap.id=apt.part_id AND report_date= '" & rD & "' AND item_type LIKE 'engine%';SELECT ap.id,apt.part_id,apt.tot_time as startTimes,apt.tot_cycles as startCycles FROM T_Aircraft_Parts ap, T_Aircraft_Parts_Totals apt WHERE ap.id=apt.part_id AND report_date= '" & oldRD & "' AND item_type LIKE 'engine%'" Dim objCommand As New SqlDataAdapter(sSQL, objConn) DS = New DataSet() objCommand.Fill(DS) Repeater1.DataSource = DS Repeater1.DataBind() DS.Dispose() objCommand.Dispose() objConn.Close() End Sub Sorry if it wrapped a bit. The "rD" and "oldRD" are the variables for the date ranges (currently set to static numbers for testing). I'm getting the following error when I run this on an ASP.Net page: System.Web.HttpException: DataBinding: 'System.Data.DataRowView' does not contain a property with the name 'startTimes'. The code works fine when run via the Query Tool on the SQL server (SQL 2005 Std) though it produces two distinct "tables" which I'm guessing is the problem. I've tried variations on the code including creating a 2nd dataset and then attempting a merge (no joy) and I've tried the ".TableName" route but it complains about trying to add the tablename twice. Thoughts? I need to get this to work - it is part of a reporting component for an application that I'm developing and I'm stuck. Thanks as always...
What's the best way to go about inserting data from several tables that all contain the same type of data I want to store (employeeID, employerID, date.. etc) into a temp table based on a select query that filters each table's data?
I'm new to MS SQL and VB. I have a table with one field JOB_NAME containing 20 records. Out of that field I want to retrieve 6 of the 20 records into a pulldown menu. They are all unique text names like so:
Anna Smith John Doe
etc. I did not see IDs listed for any of the names in the table when I looked.
There is no common denominator to the names that can be filtered in the SELECT statement, and the 6 that I want will need to be pulled out individually.
Is there a way to do this with a SELECT statement? I have not found much information about how to extract unique records out of a single field. Here's the statement I'm using which pulls all of them:
strSQL = "SELECT DISTINCT JOB_NAME AS Names FROM [WORKER_NAMES] WHERE JOB_NAME<>' ' ORDER BY JOB_NAME ASC"
This gives me the total list but I only want to bring back 6 of the 20 for the pulldown.
Is there a way to modify this statement to pull only the records that I want?
I know that this is legal sql: "SELECT 1 AS Blah" I want to do something like this except for I need to select multiple rows each with a different value for Blah. The query needs to be legal to be passed to the SqlCommand.ExecuteReader Method. Is this possible?
I am in doubt if its possible to make a select statement which enables me to consolidate multiple lines in the same table.
I have a table with a lot of companies and figures for each company.
Some of the companies owns some of the other companies in the table and in reverse, some of the companies are owned by some of the companies in the table.
I have a lot of columns, but basically the most important columns are:
Company Name, Company Mother , Company Daughter.
Each company has also a revenue column.
What I want to do is to consolidate all figures for absolute mothers e.i. companies which are not owned by another company in the list.
I therefore need a select statement which says something like:
Get the revenue of companies not owned by another company (e.i. absolute mother). Add to this, the revenue of all its daughters. Add to this the revenue of all the daughters daughters etc. until there are no daughters left.
In other words - aggregate the revenue for all the companies in the group under the name of the ultimate parent company.
I can easily select and add the revenue for the first level of direct daughters, but I dont know how many more daughters the daughters has etc.
I have a table in which each record has a initial date and a final date. I would like to create I query that gives me one row for each month between the initial date and the final date. It would be something like this:
I would like to do that, because these dates correspond to the time in which the products are in possession of sellers, so I would to use this resulting query to generate a pivot chart in Excel to illustrate the value of the goods that are with our sellers in each month.
Is it possible to do it? I think I could do that direct in VBA, but I think that maybe it would be faster if I could do it directly in SQL.
By the way, I am using MS SQL Server and SQL Server Manegement Studio 2012.
select CurrencyCode,TransactionCode,TransactionAmount,COUNT(TransactionCode) as [No. Of Trans] from TransactionDetails where CAST(CurrentTime as date)=CAST(GETDATE()as date) group by TransactionCode, CurrencyCode,TransactionAmount order by CurrencyCode
select CurrencyCode,TransactionCode,TransactionAmount,COUNT(TransactionCode) as [No. Of Trans] from TransactionDetails where CAST(CurrentTime as date)=CAST(GETDATE()as date) group by TransactionCode order by CurrencyCode
But of course this codes gives an error, but how can I get my desired result??
i just can't find a way to perform this Select Query in my ASP.Net page. I just want to find out the sales for a certain period[startDate - endDate] for each Region that will be selected in the checkbox. Table Sales Fields: SalesID | RegionID | Date | Amount This is how the interface looks like.Thank You.
I have created a trigger that is set off every time a new item has been added to TableA.The trigger then inserts 4 rows into TableB that contains two columns (item, task type).
Each row will have the same item, but with a different task type.ie.
I know its not a good idea to give you a big query...but/...
I have a query (given below) with Common table expressions. It is giving me error : The multi-part identifier "dbo.tmpValidServices_ALL.Service" could not be bound. for all the fields .. Do you have any idea.. I fed up with analysing query.. made me mad.. please help me...

I have managed to write my first CTE SQL that handles recursion but I have a problem with distinct - can't get that to work!! My CTE:WITH StudentsHierarchy(SystemID1, GroupID, AccessType, AccessGroupID, StudentID, HierarchyLevel) AS ( --Base Case SELECT SystemID, GroupID, AccessType, AccessGroupID, StudentID, 1 as HierarchyLevel FROM UserGroup a
UNION ALL
--Recursive step SELECT u.SystemID, u.GroupID, u.AccessType, u.AccessGroupID, u.StudentID, uh.HierarchyLevel + 1 as HierarchyLevel FROM UserGroup u INNER JOIN StudentsHierarchy uh ON u.GroupID = uh.AccessGroupID
) Select sh.SystemID1, sh.GroupID, sh.AccessType, sh.AccessGroupID, sh.StudentID, sh.HierarchyLevel, (select StudentName from Student s where sh.StudentID = s.StudentID) AS StudentName from StudentsHierarchy sh WHERE AccessType = 'S'
and I would like to have a distinct on the StudentID like:Select DISTINCT sh.StudentID, sh.SystemID1, sh.GroupID, sh.AccessType, sh.AccessGroupID, sh.StudentID, sh.HierarchyLevel, (select StudentName from Student s where sh.StudentID = s.StudentID) AS StudentName from StudentsHierarchy sh WHERE AccessType = 'S'
After reading all the comments about microsoft ole db provider for db2, I've started converting a project from ibm db2 provider to microsoft ole db provider, for the reason that the server would not need a ibm client software installation anylonger. However in one of the dataflows there is a select statement on the DB2 database (AS400 iseries DB2 V5R4) that uses common table expression. The Oledb data source in the Dataflow returns zero input columns when I use the microsoft provider instead of the ibm provider. When I set it back to use the ibm oledb provider the input columns are available again. The common table expression is used in the select statement like: WITH x AS (SELECT ... FROM mytable WHERE ...) SELECT x.*, (x.a - x.b) As diff FROM x
We are not allowed to change anything in the DB2 database, so using views or sprocs is not an option.
Did anyone else experience this and can it be avoided without changing the selct logic?
Hi all, I have the following T-SQL code of Common Table Express (CTE) that works in the SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE):
--CTE.sql--

Prim = MIN(CASE S.SampleType WHEN 'Primary' THEN LT.Result END),
Dupl = MIN(CASE S.SampleType WHEN 'Duplicate' THEN LT.Result END),
QA = MIN(CASE S.SampleType WHEN 'QA' THEN LT.Result END)
FROM LabTests LT
JOIN Samples S ON LT.SampleID = S.SampleID
GROUP BY LT.AnalyteName, LT.Unit
)
SELECT AnalyteName, Unit, avg1 = (abs(Prim + Dupl)) / 2,
avg2 = (abs(Prim + QA)) / 2,
avg3 = (abs(Dupl + QA)) / 2,
RPD1 = (abs(Prim - Dupl) / abs(Prim + Dupl)) * 2,
RPD2 = (abs(Prim - QA) / abs(Prim + QA)) * 2,
RPD3 = (abs(Dupl - QA) / abs(Dupl + QA)) * 2
FROM PivotedLabTests

=========================================== How can I execute this set of the CTE.sql code in the VB 2005 Express via the Stored Procedure programming?
I have a business need to create a report by query data from a MS SQL 2008 database and display the result to the users on a web page. The report initially has 6 columns of data and 2 out of 6 have JSON data so the users request to have those 2 JSON columns parse into 15 additional columns (first JSON column has 8 key/value pairs and the second JSON column has 7 key/value pairs). Here what I have done so far:
I found a table value function (fnSplitJson2) from this link [URL]. Using this function I can parse a column of JSON data into a table. So when I use the function above against the first column (with JSON data) in my query (with CROSS APPLY) I got the right data back the but I got 8 additional rows of each of the row in my table. The reason for this side effect is because the function returned a table of 8 row (8 key/value pairs) for each json string data that it parsed.
1. First question: How do I modify my current query (see below) so that for each row in my table i got back one row with 19 columns.
SELECT A.ITEM1,A.ITEM2,A.ITEM3,A.ITEM4, B.* FROM PRODUCT A CROSS APPLY fnSplitJson2(A.ITEM5,NULL) B
If updated my query (see below) and call the function twice within the CROSS APPLY clause I got this error: "The multi-part identifier "A.ITEM6" could be be bound.
2. My second question: How to i get around this error?
SELECT A.ITEM1,A.ITEM2,A.ITEM3,A.ITEM4, B.*, C.* FROM PRODUCT A CROSS APPLY fnSplitJson2(A.ITEM5,NULL) B, fnSplitJson2(A.ITEM6,NULL) C
I am using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 version. Windows 7 desktop.
I have a problem where my users complain that a select statement takes too long, at 90 seconds, to read 120 records out of a database. The select statement reads from 9 tables three of which contain 1000000 records, the others contain between 100 and 250000 records. I have checked that each column in the joins are indexed - they are (but some of them are clustered indexes, not unclustered). I have run the SQL Profiler trace from the run of the query through the "Database Engine Tuning Advisor". That just suggested two statistics items which I added (no benefit) and two indexes for tables that are not involved at all in the query (I didn't add these). I also ran the query through the Query window in SSMS with "Include Actual Execution Plan" enabled. This showed that all the execution time was being taken up by searches of the clustered indexes. I have tried running the select with just three tables involved, and it completes fast. I added a fourth and it took 7 seconds. However there was no WHERE clause for the fourth table, so I got a cartesian product which might have explained the problem. So my question is: Is it normal for such a type of read query to take 90 seconds to complete? Is there anything I could do to speed it up. Any other thoughts? Thanks
