MySQL LIMIT Equivalent In MS SQL 2000
Oct 11, 2007
I am looking for the MS SQL equivalent of MySQL LIMIT.
I know that the code in MySQL is
SELECT col_name FROM tbl_name LIMIT x,y
where x = the starting row and y = the offset
E.g. SELECT movie_name FROM my_movies LIMIT 10,5
This will give me the records from 11-15
I would like to know what is the MS SQL equivalent for the above?

In mySQL for example i could have:
ORDER BY ID DESC LIMIT 5,25
where it would start from 5'th row found and return up to 25 rows.
How do i achieve the same in Transact-SQL? The LIMIT 5, 25 part.

I have an internal Project Management and Scheduling app that I wrote internally for my company. It was written to use MySQL running on a Debian server, but I am going to move it to SQL Server 2000 and integrate it with our Accounting software. The part I am having trouble with is the user login portion. I previously used this:
PHP Code:
$sql = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username = "$username" AND user_password = password("$password")";
Apparently the password() function is not available when accessing SQL Server via ODBC. Is there an equivalent function I could use isntead so the passwords arent plaintext in the database? I only have 15 people using the system so a blank pwd reset wouldn't be too much trouble.

Hi,
Mysql database provides a storage engine called "MERGE".A "MERGE" table is a collection of identical tables that can be used as one.(Identical meaning same column name, column width, column order etc.) .
The advantage is you can split a really huge table like LOG tables, STATS tables into seperate smaller tables but would still be able to make queries on them like a single table. More details, can be got from here:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/4.1/en/merge-storage-engine.html
My question is that do we have an equivalent of MYSQL "MERGE" in MSSQL ????
Thanks,
:)

I have used this mysql code in my programm before:
select * from address order by vorname asc limit 0, 10
It works fine. But now I want to use sql server, and it doesn't recognize the term limit.
So I have found out that I can use top instead.
I have changed my code into this:
select top 0 * from (select top 10* from address order by vorname) order by vorname asc
But it gives me an error message:
wrong syntax near the word Order.
Can anyone give me a solution?
Thank you.

Hi everyone,
I am looking for a function in MSSQL that performs similar to the LIMIT function in MySQL. Here is the LIMIT function's definition:
The LIMIT clause can be used to constrain the number of rows returned by the SELECT statement. LIMIT takes one or two numeric arguments, which must be integer constants.
With two arguments, the first argument specifies the offset of the first row to return, and the second specifies the maximum number of rows to return. The offset of the initial row is 0 (not 1):
mysql> SELECT * FROM table LIMIT 5,10; # Retrieve rows 6-15
I am aware of TOP and SET ROWCOUNT functions in MSSQL but neither provide the Offset functionality.
Any help would be appreciated,
Piet

Hi groupmates,
In MySQL, we can use limit for our selection. E.g.
select * from mytable limit 10, 20
means selecting [20] records of all information from the table [mytable] from the [10]th record
But in MS SQL, what can we do? Please help.
I am writing PHP to retrieve small data from a large volume of database. Please help

Hi,
I need the equivalent for below mysql query :
select *from test limit 5, 20
I know that the below is possible in SQL Server :
select top 20 * from test where column1 not in (select top 5 column1 from test).
But my problem is I want a generic solution wherein I will not be aware of the columns available within the table.
Please advice,
- Mira

Hi,
In MySQL,
"GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'root'@'192.168.1.1' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypassword' WITH GRANT OPTION;"
This gives the permission to 'root' user from '192.168.1.1'. Another user or another ip couldn't connect to this server.
In SQL Server 2005 Express, can I implement like above query statement?

Hi,
I have successfully created a CLR function (C#) in SQL 2005 and call it from a stored procedure. I need to be able to provide the same functionality for SQL 2000 servers. Is this at all possible? I have read loads of conflicting information on the web about using COM to access the dll €“ can it be done or not? The function accepts serveral input parameters and internally access the data store using a context connection and a datareader.
Thanks.

There are three columns I need to query and rank, then group and total. I'm using MS SQL server 2000 and it doesn’t have a ranking function like the newer SQL server and oracle has. Does anyone have a clever way to create or simulate a ranking function? Thanks so much!

SQL Server 2000 SP3 on a Dell dual 2.4GHz Xeon box 3GB RAM Windows 2KSP4. Two aplication dbs, each less than 2GB in size.Had a problem where we would run Solomon queries and what not againstthe box. It had 2GB RAM, and sqlserv.exe would take up to 1.85GB ofRAM, exhausting the physical RAM on the box. SQL would choke and theSolomon users would have problems, and I would have to restart the SQLservice.I added another GB of RAM, bringing the box to 3GB, and increased thepaging file. The OS sees it, and SQL sees it. I check EnterpriseManager, and tell SQL to dynamically configure memory, and it offers anupper limit of 3071MB, so it "sees" the 3GB.I can stress the box with queries to the point that sqlserv.exe takes1.99GB of memory (as viewed through Task Manager) and then SQL serverchokes. It never goes past 2GB, and the OS and box continue runningfine.Does SQL server 2000 have some upper limit, or do I just need to changesome setting through EM?Thanks.

Hi all.
On the MS website (at this URL: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/overview/default.asp) it says that the Standard edition of SQL Server 2000 has a database size limit of 1,048,516 terabytes.
Talking to a friend, he tells me this is not true, and that it has a database size limit of 12gb.
Is Microsofts site incorrect, or is my friend lost?
Cheers! :-)

Good day!
I am carrying through a replication of the transacional and heterogeneous type between the SQL Server 2000 and MySQL 5.0.41, through driver of ODBC of the MySQL (version 3.51.15).
Unhappyly I am not having success!
I make all the necessary configurations, but in the hour to create schema in the MySQL, only the table msrepl7 is created (but nondata) and occurs the following error: €śDate too long will be column €śtimecol€? at row 1€? and later €śInvalid cursor state€?.
The first error must to the size of the column timecol that it is created as char (16), but the value that goes to be inserted is to char (19) - > ({ts'2007-05-01 20:45: 21 '}) The table that is published has only two entire fields and the same one is not created in the MySQL, exactly with the option to initiate schema. I looked for in some sites and I found one that said to bind query Log of the MySQL and to catch the command of insert for the table msrelp7 and to insert in the hand, after making this to come back to the SQL Server and to ask for to synchronize again. Did not function, now only with the error of €śInvalid cursor state€?! To complete one another person in one another site it placed that was to exclude the table msrepl7 that everything would function, did not function!
Thanks!!
