Hi all,
Is it possible to get the name and size of each index in a table? Please let me know. In sql 7, we could do this using EM but, in sql 2000, I'm not sure how to do this.
Thanks in advance,

Keep getting this error when positioning to the last page of a report.

Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index
Anyone have any suggestions? Any way to find out what collection is blowing?...or where parameter name: index comes from?
It is possible to find table size and in that table each row size.

I have been reviewing the primary keys that our vendor-purchased application
has provided. There are no foreign keys and I am reviwing the clusered/nonclustered indices
to see whee foreign keys may be needed. I have noticed some clustered indices contain
3 or 4 varchar(20) columns.
1)Is there a maximum size for an index where its size may be counterproductive and perhaps
the index slows down processing?
2) Does any one know of software tools that analyzes primary keys and designates
possible foreign key candidates?
Thanks.

Are there any references that help with estimating the size of a FTS index, or the whole catalog? I'm trying to do some capacity planning, and can't find anything to help me guess how much disk I'll need.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHow much does a table increase(%)in size when a non clusterd index is added to a column in that table if the table has say 1000 records?
Thanks.
question, since yesterday i have a problem with my indexes, they started growing very big, this morning it stopped growing but now my database is 22 GB instead of 15 GB, i already tried to rebuild my indexes and even tried to recreate my indexes but they didn't get any smaller.
Is somebody formiliar with this problem, the app developer only changed a few tables and they say that it's have nothing to do with it, i don't know what they changed, i'll tell that later.

I'm trying to establish the mb usage of a series of nonclustered indexes, I'm used to using the manage indexes GUI in 6.5, and showcontig doesn't quite give me what I want, any suggestions?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe're looking at optimizing some of our tables because we have indexes on columns that are not used. So for example we might have a table that has 6GB of data and 4GB in indexes (according to sp_spaceused). We need to know how much of the 4GB of indexes is consumed by each of the indexes individually. I've tried dbcc showcontig, but that doesn't tell me the amount of space used by the index that I run it for.
Second (and by far not as important), is there a way to determine how much space is being consumed by data in a specific column. The original creator of some of the tables added an incrementing identity column that is used no where in the system. I'd like to be able to say..."If we drop this column we'll save XXX in space."
Knowing the index space is more critical, the column space would be nice but not necessary.

Can ANy one Help me with this Exception , I have Checked The Tables for Number of Columns , its not from Column numbers ,I Think iys from For() Loop????????
I have a database which is centered around two date tables (approx. 5.5 million records each). We are finally making the big leap from SQL Server 2005 to 2012. The data is currently stored as datetime, and we are hoping to take advantage of the new date datatype, since the time component is not needed.
The first table has 13 different date columns. In testing on the 2012 server I have changed 3 columns so far, and have seen that changing the datatype to date is actually increasing the Index size and not affecting the data size. Only 3 of the columns are associated with indexes, and modifying a non-indexed column still increased the index size. I am running the Disk Usage by Table report to view the sizes.
Hi,
I'm running a merge replication on a sql2k machine to 6 sql2k subscribers.
Since a few day's only one of the merge agents fail's with the following error:
The merge process could not retrieve generation information at the 'Subscriber'.
The index entry for row ID was not found in index ID 3, of table 357576312, in database 'PBB006'.
All DBCC CHECKDB command's return 0 errors
I'm not sure if the table that's referred to in the message is on the distribution side or the subscribers side? A select * from sysobjects where id=357576312 gives different results on both sides . .
Any ideas as to what is causing this error?
Hi everyone,
When we create a clustered index firstly, and then is it advantageous to create another index which is nonclustered ??
In my opinion, yes it is. Because, since we use clustered index first, our rows are sorted and so while using nonclustered index on this data file, finding adress of the record on this sorted data is really easier than finding adress of the record on unsorted data, is not it ??
Thanks
I have 10 Gb index and disk space only left 5gb .

SUM(CONVERT(bigint, dpages)) * 8 AS data,
SUM(CONVERT(bigint, used) - CONVERT(bigint, dpages)) * 8 AS index_size,

AND sysindexes.id > 100
AND object_name(sysindexes.id) <> 'dtproperties'

ORDER BY X.[name]
the problem is that the sum of all tables is not the same size when i make a full database backup.
example of this is when i run this query against my database i see a sum of 111,899 KB that they are 111MB,but when
i do full backup to that database the size of this full backup is 1.5GB,why is that and where this size come from?

Hi,
I want to know wht is a
TABLE SCAN
INDEX SCAN
INDEX SEEKand When they are used, Wht is the difference between all these.????
I have some question and would like ask experts:
The largest table in our database eats up above 4G . we do "sp_spaceused" for this table. The length of all columns of this table ( just int, char, varchar, money ,numeric fields types) is about 200 bytes, and the table has around 1,300,000 rows, but the reserved spaced for this table is 4,800,000kb and the data space is around 4,600,00kb.
How can average each row take 3.7kb ( the total size of all columns just 200 bytes)? Any other things I need check?
Any one can give any suggestion what cause this problem? or it is normal?
Thank you very much.
Judy
Hello, Everyone,
Can anyone tell me how to find the size of a table in a DB?
Thanks,

list of tables and the number of rows in it.
Is there any way for me to do this?
I appreciate the assistance.

I am wondering if there is the limitation of maximum table size in SQL 6.5. I have a table with 2.6GB and 12,000,000 rows in SQL 6.5 database. Is this a problem?
TIA,

Is there a practical size limit, in MB's, of a table in SQL Server 6.5?
Is there a size, that once exceeded, degrades performance signifigantly?
I am speaking of raw megabytes. The table in question will consist of only 3 int columns but has the possiblity of becoming VERY LARGE (+1,000,000 rows). I am still in the design phase and can change my strategy if this will prove to be a problem.
Thanks for any help!
hello all,
I am trying to solve this problem for quite some time.. I was wondering if I can get some help..
These questions are all abt. MSSQL 6.5
1. Is there a limit on the size of the table ?
2. Does it make sense to have more tables if the size of the row size is more that the limit set by 6.5 or i should let have more rows in a different table with duplicate entries for a particular field.
3. What is the number of rows before the performance of a query starts getting affected..
Thanks..
Sachin.

Hello,
How can i get the size of a table in sqserver 2000 ?
How can read a image field ?
Thanks for this answer.
Is there a maximum or optimum number of rows I should have in a table so that I can have fastest search queries. I am a novice programmer just developed something for my work place.
The database has a table created by converting data from excel spreadsheets. There were 24 spreadsheets for 12 months each having approximately 500 rows. Designed this way the table will have approximately 24 * 500 = 12000 records. Should I consider redesigning the database to make searches faster
Hi all,
How can I find the exact size in the disk occupied by a TABLE ?
When I execute "sp_spaceused" it returns the following parameters for a table
reserved
data
index_size
unused
Which of the parameters I should consider to calculate the exact space occupied by the table.
