Need Help Connecting Java To Mssql, I'm Even Lost At Install
Jan 17, 2007
Hello,
Hope anyone in here can help.
I have tried to install the SQL Server 5 Express, but can't seem to get it to work properly.
I got a terrible name set as default for my database, as well as a terrible name for my username.
I can't find a place to change this to something more manageable.
It is further set to windows auth, but trying to set it to both, and trying a username (and password) always gives me a log in error.
I've tried searching all over the net and in here for a simple tutorial, but can't seem to find one that helps me more than it confuses me.
*****
The second part of the problem is that I have a java program which I want to connect to the database and use the tables in it, but I am at loss to how I can find what username (and password) I am supposed to have, what "url" it needs etc.
I have the jdbc driver so that part should work, I can successfully log to other mssql databases (at work/school), but not my own.
Hope you can help, and thanks in advance.

Hello, Everybody.
Help me please with one problem which I'm facing with while deploying java server application on my computer (this java app is jBilling). I have configured it as it was said in docs, I have added environment variable CLASPATH as Microsoft documentation said. I'm using SQL Server JDBC driver 1.2 by Microsoft. The result is that I find this message in log file:
2007-05-27 17:21:41,906 WARN [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool] Throwable while attempting to get a new connection: null
org.jboss.resource.JBossResourceException: Could not create connection; - nested throwable: (org.jboss.resource.JBossResourceException: Failed to register driver for: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver; - nested throwable: (java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: No ClassLoaders found for: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver))
at org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.local.LocalManagedConnectionFactory.createManagedConnection(LocalManagedConnectionFactory.java:168)
... and so on.
I have copied sqljdbc.jar to lib folder of the server. That's how I specified connection string:
jdbc:microsoftqlserver://localhost:1434;DatabaseName=Billing;integratedSecurity=false;
Can not think out what to do else. Maybe somebody knows what to do about it?
Many thanks

Hey All,
I am having a problem connecting to a database I have with a java app I am creating for my senior project. I am using the latest MS JDBC for connecting to the SQL Server.
Below is the code I am trying to run:
try {
ds.setIntegratedSecurity(true);
ds.setServerName("localhost\SQLEXPRESS");
ds.setDatabaseName("*databasename*");
con =ds.getConnection();
} catch (Exception ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
}
The ds and con variables are declared and initialized correctly. The error I am getting now is this:
com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Cannot open database "*databasename*" requested by the login. The login failed.
Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong?

I am developing a J2ee application in which the the Java servlet communicate with the MS reporting services through URL Access. I am using Apache tomcat as application server to run Java servlets. Servlet gets report name, its parameters and forms an URL and send a request to SSRS. The problem is that the RS is not returning any cookie . And I get [HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request].
Both my Reporting server and the Tomcat server are running in Same machine. Reporting Services and MS SQL Server 2008 R2 are configured for Windows Integrated authentication.To login to the Reporting server i am using my local system Administrator.

Hi.
I've following problem:
- Customer played with his logical drives in a CPQ smart array
- He played too much: he lost the drive with the LDF-File
- Now the SQL-Server is in a kind of wired mode; you can
start and stop it, but you cannot connect to (neiter 'sa' nor
any other user available before)
In fact the mode is not wired: what shall he do other when
most important file is missing... :o
- The problem for me now is:
> How can I get the Enterprise Manager or Query Analyzer
up and running again to start a restore?
PS: The restore is to be done from a tape-library running
Veritas Backup Exec + SQL-Agent
PPS: Error-log says (what I already know):
2005-10-04 17:18:02.69 spid11 Device activation error. The physical file name 'H:DEVLOG1DEVLOG1.ldf' may be incorrect.
Thanks in advance for assistance.

I've had a VB 6 / SQL Server 2000 app running in a network enviroment for a couple of years now at a client of mine. Recently, he upgraded to the latest version of Quickbooks which installed SQL Server 2005 on the server. Now there is SQL Server 2000 and 2005 residing on the same server. My VB app still runs on the server but will not run on other machines. I can ping the server from the other machines. Has SQL 2005 taken over the port I was using or maybe has new security features that won't let me access SQL 2000 using my current connection string? Here is my current connection string:
mstrConnStr = "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=" & strServerLogin & ";Password=" & strServerPW & ";Initial Catalog=" & strDBName & ";Data Source=" & strServer.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
I'm running a MSSQL DB on our web server and currently I need to use Teratrax Database Manager to connect and manage it. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to have any features to export the data from the database.
I read somewhere about an online MSSQL tool which can manage online databases? Does this exist?
What tool would I use to connect to my database to export data from it? I have an evaluation copy of MS SQL Server 2005 but my knowledge with it is limited and I'm having trouble getting it connected to a remote DB (local DBs are fine).
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Hello,
I am developing an application which needs JDBC connection to a Named Instance of SQL Server 2000 (other than default instance). I am facing problem in this regard as my code gives an exception "Time Out" or "Connection Failed". However it works fine with the default named instance...The main driver class is "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver"
and Connection URL is
"jdbc: sqlserver://localhost;instanceName=Testing:1432;databaseName=testDB;"
It gives the exception that Unable to connect to named instance....
Please if any one have any knowledge in this regard....do let me know....I have read an article on MSDN according to which on MS SQL Server 2000 the named Instance other than default can be accessed only through named pipes.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa224779(sql.80).aspx
if some body can tell me Connection string for JDBC driver which utilizes named pipes...the it will be very help full for me.........any help from MSDN Experts is really appreciated...
Thanks

Hi there everybody
I am a novice in using MSSQL and Windows 2003 solutions so I am having some problems.
I have made an excel addon in VSTO that connects to a MSSQL2005 server running on Windows 2003 on our internal domain, and it works great. Connection when I specify the domain adress is flawless. The thought is though that the addin is supposed to been used also outside our domain, so I have opened up our router and redirects all traffic to and from port 1433 to our MSSQL-server. This part should be ok.
I can then not connect to this server with our external ip specified. The error message Visual Studio produces is "An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 -A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connecteion failed because connected host has failed to respond.)"
I have read around and tried to fix this myself. I've specified to accept "Locale and remote connections" in the Surface Area Configuration Tool that shipped with MSSQL on both TCP/IP and named pipes. In the SQL Server Configuration Manager is the protocols Shared Memory and TCP/IP enabled. I have enabled all the IP-adresses under TCP/IP and specified 1433 as the port to use for all of them.
As for possible other problems I can see:
I have read a couple of places that people have tried to connect with the MSSQL server through telnet when specifying the port 1433 (telnet mydomain.net 1433). I have tried this but telnet is not getting a connection. Dont I have to open/forward more ports on the router to get telnet through?
I cant ping our external ip. Isnt this also a problem that is related to that I have not opened/forwarded ports on the router to our MSSQL server?
Do anyone of you have any tips or steps to take to narrow the problem down? This is not the forum for VSTO but thats not really where the problem is either, I think. It is probably somewhere in the configuration of MSSQL or Windows 2003. The server machine is set up as domain controller and DNS server for our local net.
I will appreciate all input, I am stuck at the moment...

Good afternoon,
I have written a .NET app that kicks off an unattended install of SQL Server Express Advanced. After the install, the same app tries to connect to SQL Express adn run a script that creates a database plus a few other things.
However, the problem I am having is that my app cannot connect. I get the error:
"An error has occurrred while establishing a connection to the server. This failure may be casued by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections."
However, the unattended install goes great. No problems there. I know this because I can Open SSMS, run queries, created DB's, etc. I also know that it is not the remote connections issue because the unattended install is set to allow remote connections (both names pipes and TCP/IP).
So, why can't i connect? I don't need to reboot after the install do I? Please tell me i don't...and please tell me it is something simple I am overlooking.
Thanks...

I'm using an install of MSSQL that comes packaged with VS Enterprise Developer and it comes with all the tools but I can't connect to the db via Windows Auth or MSSQL Auth.
Here's what I see:
From Enterprise Manager I can luanch Query Analyzer and access all the db's. But if I click File->Connect and try using Windows Authentication or an existing MSSQL account to connect via SQL Auth, its a no go. Is this functionality missing in this release of MSSQL. Do I really have to buy the full fledged version just to develop an MSSQL driven web application? :mad:

I have created an application which uses a SQL Express database. The program runs fine on the the computer where I built the app, however when I install the app on another computer I get an error telling me that under default SQL Express does not allow remote connections. The problem is that I dont want a remote connection I want a local connection, the database file is on the commputer. How can do get my application to look for the database on the local machine.
My connection string is:
Data Source=(local)SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog="C:DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGSADMINISTRATORPLDAQ.MDF";Integrated Security=True
I have made sure that the file is in the correct directory.

I installed SQL Server 2005 flawlessly yesterday. When login as "sa" through SQL Server Management Studio, I get an error message saying it cannot connect to my PC.
I checked the MSSQL Server Service. It is not started and cannot be started because it's looking for a path that does not exist!.
The folder in question is missing.
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL
The following folders do exist:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2
I initially suspected this problem was cause by a previous MSDE 2000 installation.
I uninstalled SQL Server 2005 & MSDE 2000.
I re-installed SQL Server 2005. Same problem.
I executed
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/320873
to make sure all registries are removed and manually deleted C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server€™s content
Re-installed SQL Server 2005. Same problem.
I do not know what do in order to get SQL Server 2005 up & running.
All help is greatly appreciated.

Help!!!
I want to install SQLExp2K5 with Advanced Services on a standalone basis on my Dell Inspiron XPS laptop (Win XP sp2, .NET 2.0; 2gb RAM; 8mb broadband; hardware firewall/router) so that I can learn SQL/VB/VWD, and want to use SQL E 2K5 without internet connectivity (at least until I know what the hell I'm doing!)
Really confused as to what component(s), and services I should/should not install - so I've listed my questions below:
1. Service Account: As I'm not on / dont have a domain, i presume using a domain user account is not an option for me. Should I use the Local Service account ? If so, what are/can be the issues in doing so?
2. Authentication Mode: Is Windows Authentication the one to use for a standalone install?; how would I enable the "sa" account and set an "sa" password? In fact, do I even need an"sa" account / password for a standalone, non internet connected install?
3. Components at install: Is it OK to install all components first off?
4. IIS: Is it possible to install IIS and not allow it access to the internet (or is this a stupid question -bearing in mind I dont really know what IIS is/does)
5: Business Intelligence Development Suite: How do I add BIDS once (IF) I manage to install SQLExp2K5-Adv.Ser,?
6. SQLExp2K5 Books on-line: Am I right in thinking that I should install this after installing SQLExp2K5?
7: Visual Basic Express/Visual Web Developer Express: Do these need to be configured seperately to work with SQLExp2K5?
Sorry about the length of this post, but have tried to be as clear as possible. Also apologise in advance for silly/stupid questions :)
All help and advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Yesterday a SQL2000 Developer Edition was also installed on the same Server as named instance Test05Test052000.
The 2000 seems to start and run OK and can be connect to by Management studio etc from that same box. However it can not be connect to via the network. Any ideas?

When trying to install Business Contact Manager (BCM) for Outlook 2007, the setup failed and I was refered to a log file in my Local Settings/Temp folder. The log actually says that Business Contact Manager was installed sucessfully! BCM is supposed to install SQL Express 2005 as an instance or as instance if SQL Express is already installed. There is an MSSMLBIZ instance in Services..
Who can I send the Log File to for analysis and the fix feedback?
When I first went into Computer Management and clicked on Services and Applications in the left panel, the error message appeared "Snap-in failed to intialize. Name: SQL Server Configuration Manager CLSID:{CA9F8727-31DF-41D2-975C-887D84903967} This message diappeared when I clicked on Services and Applications again. Under Services, there are 3 SQL services - one is an application that was uninstalled 3-4 weeks ago and I disabled this service. The other 2 are: SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) and the other one is SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) When I tried to start either of the last 2, the message appeared: Services "Could not start the SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) service on Local Computer. Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified. Under Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/MSSGL.1 folder is mostly empty. So, it seems like the Path in the Registry is not valid and that nothing is being installed in the MSSQL.1 folder. If so, how do I fix this?
How do I get the BCM SQL instance to install and run properly? what do the messages in Services mean and how do I resolve these.
Thank you!

Hi,
I am a bit new to the MSSQL server. In our application, we use so many SQL queries. To imporve the performance, we used the Database enigine Tuning tool to create the indexes. The older version of the application supports MSSQL 2000 also. To re-create these new indexes, I have an issue in running these "CREATE INDEX" commands as the statements generated for index creation are done in MSSQL 2005. The statements include "INCLUDES" keyword which is supported in MSSQL 2005 but not in MSSQL 2000.
Ex:-
CREATE INDEX IND_001_PPM_PA ON PPM_PROCESS_ACTIVITY
(ACTIVITY_NAME ASC, PROCESS_NAME ASC, START_TIME ASC, ISMONITORED ASC)
INCLUDE
(INSTANCE_ID, ACTIVITY_TYPE, STATUS, END_TIME, ORGANIZATION);
Any help in creating such indexes in 2000 version is welcome.
Thanks,
Suresh.

My preferred programming language is Java (sorry Microsoft). I've searched for examples of running DMX queries into an Analysis Services database from Java but failed to locate any. I've seen suggestions that XMLA could be used but again, I can't locate any examples (in any language). For my current project I ran up the white flag and used C# instead but this wouldn't be an option in other cases. It would be possible to make the DMX calls from C# objects and call those from Java but that's pretty labourious to code.
Suggestions?
